《Leather Jacket Girl (girlxgirl)》Chapter Thirty-Eight

Courtney remained fairly quiet on the way back to my house the previous afternoon, which told me that she had a lot on her mind. Of course, she wasn't the only one. I couldn't stop thinking about her. I wished that I didn't have to feel so complicated but I couldn't help the way that I felt. All I knew for certain was that I had really enjoyed the time that I had spent with Courtney and I wanted to spend more time with her.

I decided that a good distraction from my thoughts would be to go and find Emmy. I walked down the school hallway and out onto the grassy field outside, where I went to sit beside her.

"Hey," I greeted her.

"Hi," she replied. Her gaze met mine, as she looked away from her art book. "It's a good day, I wanted to spend some time out here before sports practice. You should come and join me for that, by the way. I feel like it's been ages since we last spoke."

"It has been. Are you okay?" I asked her.

"I suppose I've been slightly anxious with the whole art assignment thing," Emmy admitted.

"Hey, you're going to do amazingly, Emmy. I already know it," I told her supportively, "And you know that I'm here if you need any help," I reminded her.

Emmy thanked me and soon after that, the school bell rang.

I decided that if I was going to tell Emmy anything about the Courtney situation, then I was going to have to leave that to class.

Emmy and I made our way towards the classroom and sat down in our seats.

Courtney seemed completely invested in the work that she was doing but she did look up to meet my gaze for a moment and I received her friendly expression.

Miss Mack soon quickly entered the classroom, so she could fill us in on our tasks for the lesson.

"Remember, everyone, that you should be making sure to use your imaginations for this project. While painting and drawing is wonderful, the examiners are going to be looking for those pieces that show their creator thought outside of the box," she told us.

"Thank you for the tips, Miss Mack," Emmy told her kindly, as her eyes scanned her own work with admiration.

Emmy's work looked unique, which led me to glancing down at my own work and wondering what I could do to improve it.

"I am confident that each one of you will do incredibly on your assignments, though. Don't you worry about that. As long as you work hard, I am certain that you will all be very successful," Miss Mack told us.

Instilled with a little more confidence, I continued to work on my piece all lesson, until the bell rang out again and signalled that it was the end of class.

Emmy and I made our way out of the room and I turned my attention to her.

"See? Yours is amazing, Emmy. You're going to do great. I just know it," I told her.

"Thank you for the vote of confidence, Phoebs," she replied.

"Always. Now, should we get going to sports class?" I asked.

I tried not to get too distracted as Courtney passed by us down the hall. I would have to talk to her later.

Emmy nodded in agreement and the two of us made our way towards the sports department.

Emmy quickly got changed and then we walked out onto the field.

While there was a slight chill in the November air, it was bearable.

"Hey girls!" Ryder called out, as he jogged over to us.

Emmy grinned back at him.

"Hey Ryder," she replied.

Ryder stopped in his jog and waved towards me. I waved back at him with a friendly smile upon my own face.

Ryder soon began to discuss the game that would be taking place today. Soon enough, the other guys on the team arrived, too.

Oliver and Kian seemed optimistic about the football game and as I had seen them play before, I knew that they were going to be amazing.

It definitely helped that Ryder was a very talented player, though.

"Now, when the other team arrives, what do we do?" Ryder asked.

"We try to win?" Emmy asked.

Ryder turned to her, as a playful glint became evident in his eyes.

"We crush them," he said.

"Right. Why didn't I think of that?" she responded.

I then felt my phone buzz in my pocket and Emmy turned to me, as I checked my texts.

"Are you okay, Phoebe?" she asked me.

Hey, come and meet me outside the school.

"Yeah, I'm all good. Courtney wants me to meet with her, though, and-"

"It's all good! I'll let you know how the game goes. Have fun," she told me with a kind smile.

I was thankful that Emmy could be such an understanding person at times.

I thanked her and then quickly waved to the team, before rushing off to meet Courtney.

Sure enough, she was stood outside of the school and was leant against the brick wall.

Courtney straightened up, as her eyes met mine.

"Hey," she said, "I may have brought you something."

"You did?" I asked.

Courtney gave a subtle nod of her head, as she raised her hand up to show me that she had brought a bouquet of flowers.

"For me?" I asked.

"Well, duh," she said.

I grinned as she passed them to me.

"I thought if I was going to take you on a real date, then I should probably at least make some effort, huh?" she asked me.

I wouldn't have predicted this at all but it really was sweet of her.

"Let's get going to my car," she said.

I nodded in agreement and the two of us walked over to sit ourselves down in her car.

"Now, obviously I don't know this city very well but there's this place nearby with an amazing view. Let's go there," Courtney said.

"Okay," I said.

Courtney smiled at me and started up the engine of her car, before she began to drive on.

"We'll go back to your house first, so you can vase up those flowers," she told me, as she glanced towards the pink and red flowers that I had clutched to my chest.
