《Leather Jacket Girl (girlxgirl)》Chapter Thirty-Three

When I awoke the next day, I knew that there were going to be some thoughts I would have to work through. What I hadn't been expecting, of course, was for Courtney to call me up.
I answered the phone and rubbed at my sleepy eyes.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hey bunny," she replied.
"That's really never going to get old, huh?" I asked her.
"Never," she replied.
Although I couldn't see her, I could tell that she was more than likely smiling on the other side of the line.
"What are you up to?" I asked her.
"I got some books from the library and I was going to do some studying and then I thought this is boring, it would be cool if I had some little idiot to annoy," she said.
"Ah. This is where I come in. I knew you needed me," I said.
"Not as much as you need me," she said.
I took a deep breath before I replied then, as I got out of bed and began to change. I left Courtney on speaker phone.
"Why would I need you?" I asked her.
"You can trust me more than the others because I've known you for less time and therefore have less secrets to reveal. I also got you art supplies, so..." she trailed off.
"I don't see how me knowing you for less time equates to me being able to trust you more," I said, after I had finished putting a new shirt on.
"Are you saying that you don't trust me, then. I'm outside by the way," she said.
"I'm not saying that at all and what?" I asked her, as I moved the blinds slightly to let the sunlight, at least what there was of it, into the room.

Sure enough, one glance out the window was enough to tell me that Courtney was there.
I quickly moved the blinds closed again.
"I waved. Why didn't you wave back?" she asked me.
"I need to fix my hair," I said.
"Nah. I think you should leave it the way that it is. It's sort of cute like that," she said.
I rolled my eyes but then ended up with a blush upon my cheeks. Had Courtney actually just complimented me?
"I'll be down in five minutes," I told her.
I swiftly brushed through my hair and then made my way downstairs to open the door.
"Hey hey bunny. Is your mum cooking breakfast?" she asked me, as she entered the house.
"I don't know. You hungry?" I asked her.
"Duh. I'm a growing girl, obviously. It looks like you got stuck at 5'2 though," she said.
I playfully pat her on the arm and Courtney met my gaze with a hint of mischief.
"Alright, you're not that small. Besides, it's sort of adorable in a pathetic way," Courtney said.
"You can't just add 'in a pathetic way' into the mix there, Allen. I hate to break it to you but you called me adorable. No takesies backsies," I said.
Courtney smirked.
"You're only further proving my point, Phoebe," she said.
"Anyway, let's go into the kitchen. I can get you some food," I said.
Courtney nodded her head but then responded to that statement.
"I could just eat you," she said.
I turned to her and arched an eyebrow at that utterance but Courtney's eyes widened at me.

"What? I didn't say anything," she replied.
I felt the blush attack my cheeks again and sighed.
I decided that it was probably a good time to find out what Courtney wanted to eat for breakfast.
"I can help," she said, as I began to pick up the pancake ingredients.
"You're the guest," I said.
"Please. I showed up here uninvited and I'm pretty independent. I make breakfast for myself at home, so...just let me help?" she asked.
I felt honoured that Courtney was being so generous with me. I hadn't expected for the two of us to ever be getting along so well in the kitchen of my house, but it seemed that stranger things could happen. I watched as Courtney skillfully began to mix the ingredients together to form some fluffy pancakes.
"You don't have bananas?" she asked me.
"I don't," I admitted.
"We can compromise," Courtney told me, with a kind smile, as she grabbed some maple syrup out of the cupboard. "Do you like chocolate?" she asked me.
"Who doesn't?" I asked.
Courtney's eyes brightened, as she added some of the syrup and chocolate shavings to one of the pancakes that she had made.
"Why are you being so kind all of a sudden?" I asked her.
"'Cause as much as I don't want to admit it. You need me," she said.
"I need you?" I asked her.
"Yes, now eat the pancake," she told me.
I began to eat it and found that it tasted incredibly decadent.
"That's amazing," I said.
"Right? I love it," she said, "I had to learn to cook after I came out. My parents and I stopped having meals together and..." she trailed off.
"That sounds so rough, Courtney. I'm so sorry," I said.
Courtney gave a slight shake of her head, then, as though trying to tell me that I shouldn't worry about it. I did worry, though and I knew in that moment that as much as I may have denied it, I did care about Courtney and her stupid leather-jacket wearing self.
Courtney began to eat her own pancake before she turned to look at me with an expression of curiosity.
"Good, huh?" she asked me.
I nodded in agreement. It was nice to have such a peaceful and pleasant moment with her for once, but I still had one question on my mind.
I didn't want to ask it just yet, though. I didn't want to ruin the moment.
I had been waiting for Courtney and I to get along for so long and I didn't want to ruin that.
However, I still needed answers.
"What did you mean, Courtney, when you told me that I needed you?" I asked her.
"You want to get over Emmy, right, bunny? I'm here to help you do that," she said.
"How do you suggest we do that?" I asked her.
"Well, I'm suggesting that we go on a date, of course," she told me.
After she had said it, I felt so startled that I almost choked on my piece of pancake.
