《Leather Jacket Girl (girlxgirl)》Chapter Thirty-Two

The weekend arrived quickly, which was both a blessing and a curse. It was a blessing because it meant that I would have more time to spend with my family, including Bow, who I watched play with his train set. It was a curse because it meant that I wouldn't have time to see Emmy or, perhaps more importantly, Courtney.

I wasn't sure what it was about her but ever since I had started to feel so upset over the whole Emmy situation, Courtney had offered me a way out of it. She allowed me to stop thinking about it when I was with her.

I didn't know what that meant for me just yet but what I did know was that I enjoyed the time I spent with her.

I had never thought that I would admit that in my entire life.

"Phoebe beanie! Focus!" Bow exclaimed.

I gave him a friendly smile.

"Okay, okay," I said, as I went to sit beside him on the ground so that the two of us could play trains together. I really did love this kid and spending time playing with him was one of the best acts of kindness you could give to him. Bow never had the privilege of playing with his father.

Luckily enough, he had mother, Callie and I to fill that void for him.

I would have given Bow the entire world if I could have.

"What you thinking?" Bow asked me, as he pointed at me.

"I'm thinking that you're the most adorable and best brother I could ever have asked for," I told him, as I walked around to sit down next to him and pulled him onto my lap.

"Yay!" Bow said, "You're the best sister I have. Don't tell Callie that."

I couldn't help but release a soft laugh after he said that.

"Don't worry, Bow. It'll be our little secret," I told him, as I felt my heart warm at his kind words.

I looked around his room while we played and saw one of our family photos framed on the wall. It had been from a holiday that we had gone on a while ago to the Tropics. Emmy's family had been there at the time, so coincidentally we met there before we even knew we would attend school together.

"Let's go out in garden!" Bow said.

I chuckled at that.

"Alright, Bow. That sounds like a plan," I said, as I held my hand out to him.

Bow took my hand with a grin and the two of us walked out of the house and into the garden.

Bow rushed over to the grass so that he could sit down on it and I went to join him.

It may have rained recently and the grass may have been slightly damp but I wasn't going to leave Bow by himself.

Bow wandered over to me and wrapped his arms around me, as he kissed my cheek.

"Just as you are always here for me, Phoebe beanie, I will always be here for you. I supwort you," he said.

I beamed back at him.

"I love you, Bow," I said with sincerity.

"I love you too, Phoebe," he replied.

Callie soon walked over to join us and sat down too.

"How are my favourite siblings doing?" she asked us.

"I'm alright, Callie," I said.

"Me too!" Bow said, as he played with one of the daisies in the grass.

Callie met my gaze and raised an eyebrow in curiosity.

"I'm good," I said, "How are you?" I asked her.

I appreciated Callie being so sensitive to my needs but sometimes you really did need some private head space.

"I'm also good. You know I just wonder about you because you're my sister, Phoebe and I care about you so much," she said.

I smiled back at her at that.

I could tell she really did mean it, too. Callie's deep-set eyes looked back at me with kindness.

"I know you do. I care about you too, Cal," I said.

"What's been going on with you?" she asked me more quietly.

It wasn't as though Bow was listening, though. He had become occupied with chasing a butterfly around the garden. I just hoped he wouldn't eat this one like he had eaten that caterpillar a few months ago. He only wanted to know what it tasted like. It was for science. Probably.

"I just..." I trailed off.

Ordinarily enough, I would have brought up something about Emmy at this point. However, now my mind wasn't filled with thoughts of Emmy anymore. I was thinking about Courtney.

"It's the school thing. It can be difficult sometimes," I said.

"I understand that. I respect you so much for doing these A levels though, Phoebe. You know I always struggled in school but you work so hard and it really does inspire me every single day,"

"Thank you, Cals," I said.

Callie ruffled a hand through my hair then.

"Always," she said.

Our mother soon stepped out into the garden to join all of us. She had a pleasant smile upon her face and a tray with mugs on it.

"Hot chocolate?" I asked her.

"You know it," she replied, as the corner of lips lifted slightly.

I made my way over to her so I could press a kiss to her cheek and then picked up my mug, so I could begin to drink the delicious hot chocolate my mother had made me. It wouldn't be the same without my mother adding whipped cream and chocolate shavings to it.

"I admire each one of you so much. Callie with her job at the bar and finally breaking up with Ben; Phoebe doing so well in school and Bow...well, Bow can chase bugs," she said, as her eyes widened with surprise, as she watched him.

Bow giggled and then rushed over to her side.

"I want hot chocolate!" he said.

"I'll make one just for you," my mother said.

The four of us made our way back indoors so she could do just that.
