Spare Me Alpha but I Want Your Beta

Chapter 6- The Meeting (Nathaniel's POV)

Nathaniel's POV

I was patrolling the grounds, when I heard a car driving up the road. I mind linked Adam.

'Adam?'

'What’s up, Nate? What's going on?'

"There is a vehicle coming up towards the gate. I will meet you there. Have a couple more of the guys with you. I wasn’t notified of any visitors coming today."

Going up towards the gate behind the trees, I waited to see who it was. I'd never seen this car around. Once I got closer, I caught the scent of a rogue. Immediately, I heard low growls behind me, and I knew the guys had caught the scent, too. When the car came to a stop, I wasn't expecting the most beautiful girl I had ever seen to step out of it I put my guard back up.

"What is your business here, rogue?" I questioned from behind the trees. She looked around, trying to find out where the voice was coming from.

"What do we do, Nate?" Adam linked me.

"Stand down for now."

She walked a little closer to the gate.

"I am here to speak with your Alpha. I have a meeting with him," she said confidently.

I wasn't informed on anyone coming on land for a meeting. Was this a trap? Well, if it was, I was not falling for it.

"I haven't been notified of anyone coming to meet with the Alpha, especially not a rogue. I think I would have remembered that. We don't get many willing rogues walking in on our territory," I said with a hard tone behind my words. If there was something I lived by, it was rules. And rogues were not allowed on our territory. She might be beautiful, but she was a rogue, and it changed nothing.

"I can assure you I come with no intention to harm this pack or your territory. If you ask your Alpha, maybe we can get this cleared up," she said, sounding agitated. She seemed bothered by my interrogation. I stepped out of the trees, and looked at her wide eyes looking me up and down. I hid my smirk.

She cleared her throat nervously, and said, "Ah... So are we good?" A light pink formed on her cheeks.

'Nate, Alpha Julian says it was one of Nick's appointments he couldn't reschedule.'

I nodded.

"Yes, it seems we have been cleared, I need you to verify your name."

'Adam, what's the name?' I mind-linked simultaneously.

'I don't know, Nate; he said it was a young lady...ha! You playing with this chick? Nate, don't let Addison find that out!'

I shut my mind link off. Then I looked closely at her, right into her piercing green eyes with gold flecks.

"My name is Alexa Rose."

I appeared to look indifferent, but inside, I was just puzzled. Why was she here? What was she doing on our land? And why the hell did I care?! I gestured with my hand for her to start walking. "Come this way." I let her walk up a little ahead of me, just to keep an eye on her. She walked stiffly-maybe she knew I was guarding her. She smelled of pineapple and coconut, and her hips swayed seductively while she walked, her ass bouncing in the air. She definitely had some Spanish with the long braid hanging over her shoulder. She wore tight jeans and a see through blouse with a black bra showing under. As we neared the estate, I spotted Julian walking towards us.

She was still scoping out the place-probably admiring the estate. Well, the estate was beautiful. With sprawling lawns and an elegant marble mansion, it could take away most people's breath away. Julian nodded at me once, and I nodded back. Then he turned to the rogue.

"Miss Rose, I am sorry to have kept you waiting, but you must know that we have to be sure of who we have on our land. I am Alpha Julian Salvatore," he said.

I stayed silent while she spoke with Julian. A confused expression crossed her face. "I'm sorry, I talked to Alpha Nicholas. Are you...?" she asked.

"That would be my son. He is Alpha but he is out at the moment and won't be back for a couple of weeks, so I am filling in on his behalf. He has informed me of your request, so if you will follow me to the office, we can discuss this further."

She agreed, and I followed silently behind them as they made their way inside. Internally, I admired the authoritative manner which Julian commanded. He was a very shrewd, powerful and sensible man. Everyone respected him. And I could easily see the rogue look at him in awe. We reached his office, and I promptly stood guard at the door.

"Take a seat, Miss Rose," Julian said.

They sat down across from each other on his huge, mahogany table, and Julian got to business at once.

"So, explain to me your request. What is this about?"

She glanced behind at me, and discomfort flickered in her eyes. I folded my hands across my chest defensively, and gazed coldly back. If she was uncomfortable with me around, it wasn't my problem. I was doing my job-which was to guard.

"I...ah, Alpha Julian, is it required to have your guard here?"

"Well, Nathaniel here is Beta, so you have nothing to worry about," Julian dismissed it. I hid a smile-he was always so trusting when it came to me.

The rogue looked hesitant for a moment, but then began. And when she spoke, I found myself getting sucked into her miserable voice and the memories she was sharing. She told Julian about her pack, about a day seven years ago when everything had changed for her and her little sister. And I heard with increasing surprise and shock when she said that her parents got killed. The naked emotion in her voice was hard to miss. I couldn't blame her for what happened, even though I did despise rogues. She said that she spent six months underground. It was an awful thing to hide from a danger you didn't know anything about een at that age.

It was my job to stay emotionless and just do my duty-but part of me was reeling at the brutality she'd suffered in her life. Being without parents, a family, having to take care of a younger sister and provide for her, it couldn't have been easy. When she spoke about her sister, her voice filled with love and concern. She really cared about her, seemed to be really worried about her. And when she narrated the episode of going back to her pack and asking help from her Alpha, I found myself getting angry. I couldn't believe that her own Alpha refused to help her. She was just a damn child then! How could an Alpha do that? I couldn't imagine Nick or Julian ever behaving that way.

I watched as the brunette in front of me poured out her life story. I wanted to reach out and wrap her in my arms, and at the same time I wanted her off our grounds. I despised rogues, but something about this girl had me intrigued. She was trembling, remembering what had happened, and I could feel my wolf itching to come to the surface.

Julian didn't seem as shocked as me, almost like he'd heard this story before. When she had finished, and requested him to let them stay on our territory, Julian regarded her closely.

"Okay," he said finally, "I will grant you and your sister temporary residence, but your alliance to the pack will be to work on the grounds as help. If you and your sister choose to stay here, you will take the rank as an omega," he stated.

A gasp escaped her parted lips. I was just as shocked as she was. Nick would never offer that rank. Something wasn't right, but I stayed shut. She finally spoke

"Alpha Julian, I see where this is going. I can't accept that rank for us. I want my sister to have a good life, not one she’d have to constantly justify who she was. If you can't see that and you choose not to trust me, then I am sorry for wasting your time. That title alone will shatter her. I can't do that."

I watched as she got up from the chair, agitated, deep in thought, and even anxious. Without looking, she bumped right into me. Then she looked up with scowl on her face

"Ah... Jesus! You do know you're not transparent and people can't walk through you, right?" she hissed at me. I immediately hardened my gaze. She ignored me, and made her way around me, exiting the office.

"Alexa," Julian called after her. She turned around, and her eyes were glassy, as if she was ready to cry.

'Nate?' My brother mind linked me at that very moment.

'Mason, this isn't a good time.'

'Well, dude, it is for me! I just found my mate! Dude, I'm so fucking happy right now. I want to bring her over tonight; do you think you can whip something up?'

Did my brother really find his mate? That was awesome, I was glad. But right now definitely wasn't the time for this.

'Of course Mase, I am happy for you, bro. I will see you tonight. Invite her over for dinner, I'll make something good.'

‘Okay! Thanks!’

I followed after Julian and the rogue, and heard them talking.

"Alpha Julian, thank you for your offer again, but that is something I will not accept. I will be off the Crescent Falls pack territory by the end of the week," she said.

He looked at her warily and said, "As you wish, Alexa. Nathaniel, please see that Alexa is escorted to the gates."

"Yes Alpha."

She didn't look at me, and I didn't say anything to her. I gave her a good amount of space between us as we walked, and then I watched as she got into her car, and drove off up the road. I turned back towards the estate, but then I heard a loud hissing sound. I quickly ran towards the end of the road when I saw the little red Toyota with a flat tire. As I walked closer, I saw her screaming and hitting the steering wheel. She laid her head on the wheel, and I could she her body shaking as she cried. I slowly walked up and tapped the window on her passenger side seat.

She looked up, startled, and rolled down the window, eyes puffy and red cheeks stained with tears. I felt bad for her.

"What!" she almost growled at me. Ouch... not pleased to see me? I wasn't surprised. I hated her, too. Kind of.

"It seems you're still on our territory, and with a flat tire," I said, looking towards her back wheel.

She got out of her car with a frown, and groaned something inaudible. She must have let her hair loose, because I watched as she tied her hair back in a bun. I stood there with my arms over my chest and watched. She popped her trunk and started pulling out the tire and jack. Then she turned towards me and, "You can let your Alpha know that I will be off this property as soon as I change my tyre. I swear-not a minute more," she said through gritted teeth.

"How about you let me help you with that," I offered with a smirk playing on my lips.

"I can handle it, but thank you for the offer. I've changed a tire before. What you can do is leave me, because I don't need you hovering over me like I am some kind of criminal." She started to pump the jack up, and the Toyota was finally up in the air.

"Listen, I am doing my job by seeing that you rogues are off the property. You're lucky that the Alpha didn't just kill you on the spot for rejecting his offer," I spat. Goddammit, I was trying to be good! I wasn't good often... especially not with rogues. She was annoying me, and attracting me at the same time. It was getting on my nerves.

"What is your deal?" she yelled at me getting up from the ground and stomping towards me. "I get it that you don't like rogues. Clearly, I don't need to address anything to you, but here's the thing, Beta! I didn't ask to be a rogue, I didn't ask for someone to come kill my parents and leave me to raise a nine year old kid when I was one myself! And you can't judge me without knowing how we feel. I am not justifying every rouge out there, but I can assure you that not all of them want vengeance. If that's what I am to you a rogue rather than someone looking for a better way out, then so be it. Just leave me alone; I've had a rough morning and I don't need you badgering me."

She turned back to her car, and I scowled to myself. I was just doing my job! But the way she looked right then-angry yet miserable, defeated and broken, I felt something sympathy and repentance creeped up on my conscience. Oh, hell.

She opened the door of her car and got in, and I grabbed the doorframe, preventing it from closing, and knelt down .

"Listen, I guess I was a little hard on you, and for that I am sorry," I whispered close to her trying to look into her eyes to show I was sincere.

She looked up at me, nervousness clearly written on her face, and I looked at those mesmerizing eyes of hers. Something about her affected me.

"I...ah, it's fine. I was way out of line," she said, looking away at the ground.

I really wanted to say something to make her feel better, so I said the first thing that came to my mind.

"I don't know if this will help, but if I were you, I would wait until Alpha Nicholas got back from his trip. Alpha Julian is a little old fashioned with his ways-- maybe you could, let's say, get a second option," I said, and let out a nervous chuckle. What the hell was I doing?! I didn't even know this girl. She was a rogue-I despised them.

"I don't know if that's such a good idea, but thanks," she said, and then got into her car and drove off.
