《The Alpha Instinct》Chapter Twelve: What Sharp Teeth You Have

"This way Grace!" Bunny hollers back to me.
I rush after her as she takes off again at full speed maneuvering around and through the underbrush of the woods like she has traversed these woods a hundred times blindfolded. I allow her to continue leading us deeper into the woods but I keep searching for any signs of danger. I have no idea what we are running towards but if Silver was indeed hurt than I imagined it was a good amount of trouble.
My body came to a sudden stop when I heard the sound of whistling carrying in on the evening breeze. I focused my power into my hearing and it seemed as though all was silent. I took a step forward and paused again when I picked up on the faint tune. Someone was out here with us, not too far away by the sounds of it.
"Here—wolfie, wolfie, wolfie—" The voice whispered in a playful taunting as if they knew I would hear them. My blood froze in my veins and I turned my attention toward the direction Bunny had run off in. It was a trap, and they had used Silver as the lure to bring us straight to them. I clenched my teeth together tightly, "Damn hunters!" I cursed the whole lot of them as I raced off in hopes of catching up to Bunny before she got herself hurt.
I could hear the pattering of feet against the dirt in the trees to my left. I turned my gaze in time to catch a figure catching up to me, "You might want to shift or I'll catch you like I did the other one." The warning was followed by an eruption of giggles that sent chills up my spine. I pumped my legs faster to put distance between me and the hunter.
Silvers scent was getting stronger by the second but as got closer to his location I realized there was a metallic tang to his scent. It was Silvers blood, he was bleeding—a lot.
My wolf battered and rammed herself against her cage in my mind, She snarled like a hungry beast. My vision began to take on a red haze as her desire for blood began to become my own desire. My body began to tremble and skin pulled itself taunt against my bones as I tried to hold back the shift.
I pushed my body faster forward my only concern being that I got to Silver—nothing else mattered. Trap or not. These hunters had poked the wrong beast and now they were going to get a taste of her fury. I almost ran smack into Bunny who was suddenly in front of me as if she materialized out of the shadows themselves. I pulled up short, straining to keep myself from lashing out at her for. She slowly lifted a finger to her lips as if to tell me to be quiet before she turned on her toes and crept forward. I followed behind her my beast vibrating with the need to tear through the trees and get to her mate.
Bunny pointed out toward the small clearing and I focused my eyes to see what she was seeing. There was a small gathering of hunters about fifteen or so all together. I almost wanted to laugh at the fact that they thought fifteen would be enough to take me on—they might have caught me off guard last time but that would never happen again. They would have to send their whole damn army if they wanted to take me.

The small group parted and my wolf turned into a crazed animal at the sight. Silver was laying on the ground—no he was staked into the ground and he was thrashing about like a man possessed trying to free himself. I lunged forward but Bunny held out her arm stopping me. I snarled at her but she only pointed up toward the trees. I looked up to see that there were more hunters perched up in the surrounding trees with crossbows fixed on the clearing.
I clenched my teeth together trying to contain my rage, "I'm going to—" I stop myself when I hear the sound of approaching footsteps. Bunny must have heard it too because she snapped her attention toward them, "I'll take care of it Grace—you take care of the other hunters and rescue Silver." She whispers to me as she moves to take off towards the crazy hunter who had been following us. I grabbed her arm before she could leave, "You be safe—I don't want to have to explain myself to an angry Marshall if something happens to you." I give her a hard look.
Bunny smiles at me brightly, "Don't worry Grace—I'm a big girl and I'm tougher than I look. You just worry about Silver..." She pulls her arm free from my grasp and walks calmly a few steps away from me. She throws me a look over her shoulder while a soft giggle before she took off at an impressive speed.
I turn my eyes back to the clearing and then up towards the trees with a deep frown, "I really hate hunters—" I mumble to myself as I walk towards a nearby tree and look up from the base of it toward the top. I inhaled deeply trying to steady my wolf before I jumped up and grabbed onto a low hanging branch. I made my ascent into tree with ease until I got to a branch large enough to rest upon. I squatted on the branch my eyes searching the trees, it looked like there was only three hunters—I could easily take out two of them but the third might be a bit of trouble.
I looked toward the ground to check on Silver but he was still wrestling at his bonds. The hunter standing over him slammed something against his head making him fall slack. I held back a growl when I recognized her as the hunter who'd doused me with wolfsbane. I turned away from the sight and focused on the hunter a few trees from me. I pushed myself into a standing position, took a breath and launched myself from the tree.
My stomach smacks into a branch of the next tree and quickly wrapped my arms around it ignoring the sting of hit. I take a moment and pull myself up. I only take a moment to pause before I am launching myself yet again into another tree. This time I barely catch myself at the last minute, dangling one handed from the tiny branch that I wasn't sure could support my weight for too long.
I swung my weight and reached up with my other hand to catching a firm grip. I tilted my head back and noticed that the hunter was only about fifty feet over my head. I waited for him to notice I was there but he seemed completely unaware of my presence. I smiled to myself as I hoisted myself up onto the tiny branch and moved to the next as silently as I could. I moved quick reaching up and grabbing him by his ankle. I yanked hard and he let out a grunt of surprise as he started fall.

I caught him and slammed him against the tree. He stared into my face with shock and fear. I smirked at him, "Boo—" I ripped the crossbow from his hand before I dropped him out of the tree. A shout of terror escaped him as he disappeared into the darkness below. I spun around quickly with the crossbow in hand focusing my eyes on the hunter across the way and taking aim before firing. I watched the arrow sail through the air and plant itself into the unsuspecting hunters chest.
"And then there was one..." I mumbled to myself as I chucked the crossbow and leapt out of the tree.I closed my eyes as I plummeted towards the earth below, loosening the hold on my wolf. I shifted mid fall to protect myself from taking any serious damage, my four feet hitting the ground with a loud thud. The hunters turned their attentions towards me in surprise. I let out a low growl before I pulled back on the wolf shifting back into my human form.
"You wanted me? Here I am hunter!" I yelled loudly not caring that I was naked in front of them. I heard the sound of the last hunter in the tree firing his crossbow. I moved quickly, catching it inches before it would have pierced me. I tightened my grip on the arrow snapping it in half and chucking it away from me, "Is that the best you've got?"
I tilted my head towards them, a smirk spreading over my lips. I must have looked half crazed by the way most of them stepped away looking hesitantly toward their leader. She stood proudly near Silver, "It looks like I've got something that belongs to you..." She stepped to the side allowing me to get a better view of him and I lost my humor. His eyes opened slowly and our gazes connected. His eyes were black than black telling me his wolf was in complete control at the moment. It seemed that the sight of me only made it worse as he threw his head back and released a roar that was full of rage. My own wolf rushed forward at the sound and my body hunched over, shaking violently. Somehow he was forcing a shift on me—I gasped knowing I was about to lose control, "Run hunter because if I catch you, you're dead."
Most of the hunters took my warning and ran like the devil was chasing them. The shift took me and my wolf pushed me to the back of my mind so I had no control. I could only stare out at the madness and mayhem she was creating. She pushed us toward the remaining hunters, snarling and snapping her teeth. A hunter pointed a gun towards us and she lunged at him, tackling him into the dirt. He tried to fight her off but it was useless. Her claws ripped through his clothes and flesh like tearing through paper. The taste of his blood was in our mouth as she chewed on him with a ravenous hunger.
The sting of pain hit us and she turned her head to see that another hunter had stabbed us with a silver tipped dagger. The hunter looked toward us with wide horrified eyes as she swiped out with a large paw and slicing the hunters throat. Now only the woman who had captured Silver and another man stood in our way. As I expected the female met our gaze for a moment before she shoved the male towards me and took off running, disappearing into the trees.
Before she could force us to attack the male, there was a high pitched whistle and than he hit the ground with a thud. There was a dagger sticking out of the side of his head. She turned our gaze to see Bunny standing there naked and bloody, breathing heavily. I pushed forward in my mind when my wolf lost her focus for a moment and forced myself to shift back into human form.
I sagged a bit under the exhaustion, "Glad to see you're alive..."
I pulled myself over to Silver before dropping to the ground beside him. He was staring at me with intensity, "Leave me..." He growl as he fought for control with his wolf.
"Are you crazy?"
"If you let me—" He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, "If you let me out of here—I don't know what I'll do..." He opened his eyes and stared at me. I blinked as I pulled my gaze from his face to his body, "Do you want to hurt me?" I ask not sure what he's trying to say to me.
He growled, "I would never hurt you!" I look back to his face and his black eyes. I tilt my head to the side, "Then I'm going to get you out of here..."
"Bunny! Help me with this!" I call out to her and she scurries over quickly kneeling down on the other side of Silver. She gives him a reassuring smile, "Alpha..."
I reach out toward the Silver stake knowing that it's going to burn. Bunny follows my lead and we share a look for a moment before we are both ripping the stakes free from his legs. Silver lets out a howl of pain and I cringe against the burning in my hands tossing the stake far away from me.
I scoot my body toward the stake in his shoulder and he locks his gaze on my neck, "Grace—" His voice is full of uncertainty and the butterflies in my stomach erupt. I can feel deep in my soul that once he's freed his wolf is going to force him to mark me. I can hear it in his voice and see it in his eyes. Do I want him to mark me?
"I know..." I say back to him softly. His eyes snap to mine and I feel the pull of our bond. I lick my lips and say three words that will change my life forever, "I accept you." I wrap my hand around the stake and yank it free from his shoulder as Bunny does the same.
I toss the stake as Silver reaches up and grabs onto my shoulder. He pulls me down to him with surprising strength after everything he's been through. My skin feels like it's on fire where it touches his but I don't have a long time to focus on this feeling before I feel the sharp sting of his teeth ripping into me. My mouth opens in a silent scream before the pain eases into something more pleasant. I can feel him moving through my mind but it isn't an overwhelming presence—its calm and peacefully hanging around the edges.
Mine. His voice whispers through my mind before I feel his consciousness fade away. I feel him fall away from my body and I pull back to see that he's laying faint in the dirt. I sighed, "Lets get him the hell out of here—"
Bunny cleared her throat, "Sounds like a plan—Alpha." I look towards her and she winks at me.

Synopsis: Naruto and Sasuke were unable to defeat Kaguya the first time around, and suffer immensely for their failure. They travel back in time to right their wrongs, but struggle with the repercussions of their failure and the unintended consequences of their actions. Author's Note: This is fanfiction, I am a first time author, and I make no claims nor guarantees to quality. I have another story floating around in my head, but I am writing this first in order to practice my skills and gain feedback. Please feel free to give constructive criticism, I will try to read and respond. No guarantees to upload schedule or speed will be made. I work a full time job, and I am not particularly fast at writing, though maybe speed will increase as I become more practiced with my storytelling. This work will essentially be my playground moving forward; I'm going to write about scenarios that tickle my fancy, and the overall story may suffer from it. I will endeavor to keep continuity though. I have an outline that I am working on, and there is an overall arc to the story already. Furthermore, as of the beginning of this novel, my intention with this novel is to explore negative emotions and use my writing as a form of meditation/therapy. When I am sad, I will write sad things, and when I'm happy, the story will be happy. Lastly, there will be religious undertones every once in a while. Hopefully nothing too heavy handed though.
