《The Alpha Instinct》Chapter Nine: Kill The Messenger

Valerie was charging across the room toward Barrett who had just recovered himself from Silver's manhandling. Illyiana stepped in front of Valerie to halt her but much to my own amusement Valerie palmed her face and pushed her out of her way. Barrett snarled at Valerie right before she swung a fist nailing him in same spot I had struck him before, "I'll kill you! You should have thought better than to show your face in front of me again."
Holding true to her threat she wrapped her hands around is throat and started chocking him or at least attempted too but by the look on Barrett's face I'd say she wasn't being very successful. Lennicks moved faster then I could account for and soon he was ripping Valerie free from Barrett, "Foolish woman! I should kill you for your treatment of the royal family and gamma prime."
Valerie glared at Lennicks before she again to my amusement spit in his face. I hadn't really liked Valerie when I'd first met her but I was gaining a whole new respect for her. Lennicks was not at all amused by her response and flashed her his canines, "You must have a death wish..." He wrapped his hand tightly around her throat, successfully choking her. She squirmed and clawed at his hand trying to free herself. I felt my own panic rise as I watched the scene unfolding before me. Bunny let out a shriek from behind Marshall, "Please stop! You're killing her!"
"That's the point little wolf—" Illyiana said with a bright sadistic smirk as she watched her brother.
I gritted my teeth and took a step forward, "Put her down. Right Now." I commanded not wishing to see someone that this pack cared about die. Lennicks looked toward me with dark eyes and a furrowed brow, "Why do you care? This isn't your pack—"
"Brother!" Silver snapped, "Let her go before you make me angry and we both know what happens when I get angry." Lennicks smiled at Silver before he dropped Valerie to the ground. She hit the ground with a loud thud, gasping and coughing as she tried to make up for the loss of oxygen.
"My apologies—" Lennicks says but I can tell he doesn't actually mean in anything other than a taunt. Valerie pulled herself up off the ground still clearly upset by the sudden appearance these particular visitors. She looks over her shoulder at Silver, "I'll take the others out of the room—" She turns back to the Silver's siblings with her hateful glare and bows her head in submission but I can see she hates every moment of it, "Forgive me, I'll take my leave."

Her head rises and she marches away from us with stiff uniformed steps. She gives a slight nod toward Marshall, Bunny and Libra. They look from her toward the rest of us before following after her, more than happy to get out of the room by how fast they were moving. I watch as they disappear from view and I am not sure if I was supposed to follow but she hadn't given me any signal. I stood uncertain for a moment until Silver stepped forward blocking my view of the exit with his body, "Now, deliver your damn message quickly and then get the hell out of my house."
I looked toward Lennicks who was staring at Silver with a wicked gleam in his eye that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. His eyes moved from Silver to me in a slow sweep, "You said that you didn't know my brother yet you must have a close relationship if he allowed you to stay over someone he's known since he was a pup—" He smirked at him and I narrowed my eyes.
"The message..." Silver prompts with a growl as he position his body slightly in front of me. Lennicks lets out a loud chuckle, "I see how it is now—Father will be so disappointed to find out, he'll never allow you to make a fool out of him Silver. Though I do see the fascination in an alpha female..."
The room became extremely quiet and I felt the tension in the air growing thicker.
My wolf stirred,
I fisted my hands at my sides annoyed by the fact that my wolf had decided to give her two cents on the current situation too. As if that was necessary. I took a subtle step forward and hesitantly unclenched a fist, raising it and placing it gently on his back. It was such an awkward situation for me and my cheeks burned with my embarrassment but I felt the air in the room become more breathable.
"You will leave Grace out of it. She has nothing to with any of this—" Silver says in a gritty voice that tells me his trying hard to maintain control.
"Oh I beg to differ baby brother. She became apart of this the moment she met you. If you want to blame anyone—blame yourself for not being strong enough to do what should have." Lennicks words make my blood run cold because I know exactly what he's implying. My wolf snarls in my head at the thought of rejection. My hands slips from where I had it pressed against Silver.

Rejection. Rejection. Rejection. I can't stop myself from chanting the word over and over again in my head. Every time I think it my wolf become more and more frantic for release. She wants to destroy something. She wants to dig her claws in deep and rip through those who would try to take our mate away from us.
"Mine..." I growled at a whisper as my thoughts continued to splinter in my mind. My wolf rose closer to the barrier in my mind, "He's mine! Not yours!" I snarled loudly, my voice echoing through the room. I lifted my gaze toward Lennicks and his eyes widened slightly, I could only imagine how enraged I must look at the moment.
Barrett shifted in his position looking ready to attack if he needed too. I snapped my attention to him and growled viciously before turning my attention back to Lennicks, "Try and take him from me and find out how just fascinating I can be." Silver looked over his shoulder to me with his lips pulled together in a straight line. I glared up at him, "You even try to utter a word of rejection and I'll make you regret ever entertaining the thought."
"You three cannot be serious—" Illyiana chirped from behind Lennicks, "You would have us believe that this—thing—is Silver's mate? Don't make me laugh..."
I took a menacing step forward but Silver reached out and caught my wrist in a tight grip, "Enough!" He snaps. His touch immediately soothed my wolf and the paranoia that had been clouding my mind began to dissolve. Silver lets out a frustrated sigh, "The message..." he prompts again as if needing to remind us all for the purpose of the uninvited guests.
"Father has requested your return for Remus' coronation. He says he's allowed you your freedom but expects you to take your rightful place in the family once his title passes to Remus'." Lennicks says with a flat tone.
"Well, tell the king that while I appreciate his invitation to such a monumental occasion, I'm going to have to decline. You see my schedules quite full and I don't really find the company of elites to be to my liking nowadays." Silver shoots his brother a mocking smirk and I do my best to keep myself from smiling as well. Lennicks doesn't seem put off by Silvers response, "He thought you might say something like that—In which case I was supposed to tell you that it wasn't actually a request more of an order. If you do not come back within a fortnight he will send the berserkers after you—and you'll be made to come quite unwillingly I suspect. If I were you I'd make the smart choice and come willingly Silver."
Silver's grip on me tighten painfully but I kept myself from showing any signs of discomfort, "Get out!" He growls angrily toward the his brother. Lennicks makes no attempt to move or leave instead his gaze moves to me, "If I were you I would run away while you can because if my father and brothers find out about you—" Silver releases a frightening snarl interrupting whatever warning Lennicks had been trying to give me.
"Don't you speak to her. Look at her or even think about her." Silver yanks me so that I am now pressed up against his body in a possessive show, "If anyone of you come near her I will tear you limb from limb, family or not." I could hear the sincerity in his statement and I knew he would do exactly that if any of them got to close to me.
Lennicks smirked at us and held up his hands in surrender, "You win baby brother. We'll take our leave, no need to kill the messenger..." He nods his head slightly to Barrett. Barrett relaxes his stance and moves to Illyiana, "Come on princess, it's time to go back home."
"And thank the goddess for that—It was so nice to see you again baby brother..." She quips but the lie is blatant, as she wraps a hand around his arm and allows him to lead her from the room without even sparing a glance back at us. Lennicks takes a step back, "I'll be seeing you soon brother—a fortnight—willingly or not." He glances down at me and shoot me a wink before he strides out of the room.

Only here, I correct mistakes and errors. If you read it anywhere else and have to pay for it or have to deal with an annoying amount of advertisement, You Are Being Betrayed. You would do good if you make other people in that network aware of it. This is a free project of mine for the purpose of having fun.
