《The Alpha Instinct》Chapter Eight: Hostile Takeover

I don't know how long I floated around in the darkness but eventually I made my way back to the world of the conscious with only a mild headache, thank you healing genes. I found myself laying neatly on a bed which I guess was kind of them after I tried to murder them. I rolled over to find Leo leaning against the wall by the door with a large frying pan in his hand. I eyed the pan for a moment before meeting his gaze which was focused on me with nervous suspicion, "Really? Is the frying pan necessary?" I question with a lifted brow.

"Are you going to try and rip my throat out?" He quips back.

I stare at him silently for a moment, "Not unless you try to hit me again."

"Fair enough—" He states before bending over and setting it down on the ground like a small olive branch before standing up and stepping away from it. I smirk at the gesture before I push myself up into the sitting position with a groan. The room spins for a moment and I press a hand to my forehead, "Did you have to hit me that hard?"

"I wasn't really concerned about gaging the force behind my swing. I was more focused on the she-wolf having a possible bloodthirsty mental breakdown..." He say unapologetically making me smirk again as I rubbed my head, "Fair enough..."

"For someone who basically had a melt down and took a pan to the head you are surprisingly relaxed. Should I be concerned?" Leo questions. I shrug my shoulders as I push myself off the bed taking a turn at standing, "It's been a little while since I've had a panic attack—guess all the stress of the past couple days caught up to me. Nothing to really concern yourself with..." I wasn't sure if it really was something they should be concerned over. I had thought Noah had taught me how to move past the panic attacks but clearly I still had more to learn.

"You've had more than one of those?" He pushes and I grit my teeth at the fact that I had unwittingly shared more information about myself and my past then I had meant too.

"Like I said it's nothing to concern yourself with..."

"But—"

"DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!" I snap at him quickly cutting him off. He looked startled by my presence for a moment and I quickly reeled my wolf back, "Sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you like that...still coming out of that near coma you put me in." I tease hoping to distract him away from my attitude change. He looked at me warily but he gave me a small smile, "I did knock you pretty good."

"I'd say..." I grumble jokingly happy he was deciding not to press further for answers.

"Where are the others?" I ask after a small lull in our conversation. Leo smirks, "Marshall has the girls downstairs making dinner—he forced me to stay up here with you until you woke up in case you were still upset. He said if anyone deserved a beating it was me..." I snort at this and give my eyes a small roll. I opened my mouth to make a smart remark but shut it quickly when I heard the sound of harsh growls and Bunny screaming. Leo looked towards the door in surprise before he rushed towards it. I caught his arm before he could leave, making him growl at me in confusion

"Calm down!" I hiss at him.

"This is my family! They're in trouble! Now let me go!" He yanks his arm trying to free himself but I tighten my hold.

"I said calm down!" I use my alpha command on him and his eyes widen in surprise but he shuts his mouth. I listen carefully trying to pick up on how many attackers are in the house but its to hard to tell with all the snarling happening. I let out a sigh of frustration, "Damn it!"

I focus my attention back on Leo, "Okay, listen to me. You are going to go out that window behind me and you are going to track down Silver and Valerie as quickly as you can. I can't imagine they've gotten to far from here yet. Tell them where under attack—"

"What about you?" Leo asks looking uncertain about my plan.

"What about me?" I lift a brow and then give him a smug smirk hoping it'll reassure him, "I am going to protect your family until your alpha gets back to do his job—properly." He still looks at me questioningly but I don't have time to waste making him believe how capable I am. I pull him towards the bed and then shove him at it, "Now go! You're wasting precious time!" I command him again.

He gives me a small pout before he is scrambling across the bed and to the window. I wait until he slips out before I leave the room and make way down the towards what I assume is going to be chaos. The closer I get to the noise the more I can feel the tension and power in the air. I take a deep breath as I ready myself next to the entryway of the living room. I pull on the power of my wolf as I step into view hoping that Leo will find Silver quickly.

"Who the hell are you people? And what do you think you're doing with him?" I ask of the large man whose hand is currently wrapped around Marshall's throat choking the life out of him. Bunny and Libra are being held back by another male without much trouble, no matter how hard they seem to be struggling to free themselves.

I heard movement behind me and I ducked quickly as woman reached out to grab me. I spun on my heels and threw my palm up towards the center of her chest knocking her off balance. She staggered backwards away from me with a look of shock and I smirked before I rushed forward, wrapping my hand around her throat. I looked over my shoulder at the two men while I held onto the struggling woman, "Now, let's try this again shall we? Who the hell are you and what are you doing here?"

The man holding Bunny and Libra sneered at me, "Such disrespect..." he murmured to himself. The other male only grinned at me with amusement, a look that I had been on the receiving end of a lot recently. He released his hold on Marshall, who dropped to the ground like a ton of bricks. Marshall choked and gasped but kept a narrowed eyed gaze upon the nameless intruder.

"I've been rude—I'm Lennicks..." He bows his head slightly before motioning to the other male, "This is my friend Barrett and that—" He nods towards the woman in my grasp, "Is my sister Illyiana."

I looked back to Illyiana who was glaring at me like she would like nothing more than rip out my throat with her teeth. I released her, knowing she wasn't a threat to me at this point. She dropped to the ground much like Marshall.

I turned my attention back to Lennicks, "I'm Grace—now that we all have been acquainted I suggest that you leave the same way you entered."

Lennicks shoved his hands into the pockets of his nice slacks, taking a leisurely stance, "As much as I would like to leave I can't do that. I was sent here to deliver a message and until I've done that I must remain."

I narrowed my eyes, "Well, let's hear this message then..."

"You should watch the way you speak she-wolf. You are nothing compared to the second son of the Monarch!" Barrett snarled at me, flashing his canines. I eyed them and noticed that in comparison to other wolves they were much more impressive in size and length. My curiosity stirred and I looked away from him to

Lennicks, "Second son of the Monarch? Who the hell is the Monarch?"

A female snort came from behind me, "Classless, simpletons—I don't see why Silver hangs around them." She bumped my shoulder hard as she passed by me and made her way towards her brother. My eyes focused on her as I processed the fact that she had spoken my mate's name.

Lennicks still seemed to be at ease, "Illyiana, don't be rude. You're just upset that this so called classless simpleton got the upper hand on you." He reprimanded her. She snorted again and flipped her white blonde hair over her shoulder, "Only because she caught me off guard..." My wolf rose within me at her words and I held back my snide comment.

I straightened up a bit, "How do you know Silver?" I decided to ask another question this time hoping to get an answer. Illyiana narrowed her eyes at me and opened her mouth to probably insult me again but Lennicks jumped in over her, "How do you know Silver?"

I grit my teeth at his blatant attempt to avoid the question, "I don't really—I only just met him a couple of days ago. These ones..." I motion to Marshall and the others, "Saved me from hunters. Now, you obviously know Silver and I think we all would like to know how..."

Barrett snarled at me again but Lennicks pulled a hand from his pocket and held it up to silence him. His eyes remained focused on me with the light of his amusement, "Silver is our baby brother—and most beloved of our father. We came here to discuss is immediate return to take his rightful place." His words left me reeling but they were still vague and left a lot to be questioned. Marshall was up off the ground and glaring at Barrett, "Release them now. We are obviously no threat to you as you've made exceptionally clear."

Lennicks nodded his head and Barrett released Bunny and Libra. Bunny was quickly racing across the room and into Marshall's arms. He pulled her quickly so that she was standing behind him, protected by his body if anything were to happen. Libra glared over her shoulder at Barrett before looking towards me, "Where is my brother?"

"Brother?" Barrett growled, "There is more of you?" He looked towards Lennicks with suspicion as if he was thinking we might be hiding an army of wolves in the house. I rolled my eyes, "I sent him to find Silver and Valerie when I realized we had a situation."

She let out a small sigh of relief before taking steps towards me.

"It seems you've done all the work for us." Lennicks comments with a smile that makes me want to slap it off his face.

If there is one thing I learned while being held captive it is that if you can keep the enemy talking you can by yourself time to figure out a plan to possibly avoid the almost inevitable pain they are promising. I focus my attention on Lennicks, "You guys said something about a Monarch—"

"Yes, King of the Wolves—" Lennicks supplies

"Or father as we like to call him—" Illyiana remarks with a smug smirk on her lips.

"I didn't know there was such a thing." I say without much concern.

"That is because you and your friends here are the bottom of the barrel in our world. Lowly wolves whose bloodlines have been polluted by years of inbreeding and human mingling." Barrett joins Illyiana in the land of smugness. I looked between the three of them and could feel the difference in their aura as compared to the others and even myself. Though my wolf didn't seem to care one way or the other about pure or dirty blood. She was pissed by the continual disrespect that they had been heaping on us.

I rolled my shoulders to relieve some of the tension that was mounting within me, "Look, I don't know about any of that but I'm guessing that if Silver wanted to be with you guys then he'd be with you guys. If there is anything I've learned about him in the past couple of days it's that Silver does exactly what Silver wants to do."

Lennicks chuckles, "He has always been childish—but we've let him play around long enough."

"What exactly is Silver's rightful place?" I question needing to understand where my mate fit into this strange unknown world, within our world.

"That is none of your business as you are not involved in the matters." Illyiana snaps quickly. Her reaction ends up becoming the match to my wolfs short fuse. She rushes beyond my control and claws at my skin. I can feel the room shift under the amount of power coiling out of me, "You better learn to talk to me correctly because princess or not—I have teeth and you can still bleed." I growl at her.

Barrett and Illyiana shift into defensive stances but Lennicks is looking towards me with even more amusement, "Oh you do impress Grace. I've never myself witnessed female alpha and with such dominance—"

"Clearly an abomination of her bloodlines!" Illyiana raked her eyes over me with disgust, "Your parents have disgraced our kind with bringing something like you into the world."

As if sensing the sudden change in me Libra, Bunny and Marshall rushed towards me as I lunged forward, "I'll kill you!"

The three of them blocked my path to Illyiana, holding me back the best they could. My wolf and I were in agreeance that I needed to rip the pathetic she-wolf limb from limb, even if she was our mates sister. She was a sorry excuse for a wolf if there ever was one. Barrett positioned himself slightly in front of her with a tense expression clearly understanding my intentions if I broke free from the pathetic attempt to hold me back.

She scoffed at me thinking she must be safe between Barrett and her brother, "Look at yourself—no better than an animal. Is this what passes for alphas now?"

"I'll show you animal! I'll rip your throat out with my teeth!" I snarl as I pushed forward causing the three of them to stumble back. It created a space for me to move through and I rushed through it quickly. I bulleted at Barrett slamming my body into his with all my force. We both went down to the ground with me having the advantage over him. I pulled my body up so that I straddled his waste and landed at hard punch to his face. He snarled and used his weight to throw me off balance, rolling us over.

He returned my punch to me but it only caused my wolf to burn with excitement over the violence. I smiled with the taste of my blood in my mouth before turning my attention back to Barrett and receiving another punch. Before I could respond an angry roar shook the room and my wolf immediately settled in my chest at the sound. Barrett turned his attention quickly toward the intruder but a little too late. He was ripped up off my body by his throat, "You touch her again and I'll kill you!" Silver snarls in his face before chucking him to the side like a piece of trash.

His eyes fell to me and I sucked in breath at the sight of him standing over me like a vengeful wolf god. He reached down and wrapped his large hand around my arm, pulling me up off the ground. I let out a sound of surprise at the quick movement. Silvers eyes looked over me before focusing on what I'm sure was a now bruising cheek, anger clear in his dark eyes.

"What an entrance you make brother—" Lennicks claps mockingly. Silver closes his eyes slowly clenching his jaw tightly before opening his eyes and looking towards his siblings, "What the hell are you doing here? I think I made it pretty clear when I left that I wanted nothing to do with any of you."

Valerie and Leo came rushing into the room next freezing in the entryway. Valerie was looking at them like she'd seen a ghost until her eyes landed on Barrett and then I saw hatred form, "What the hell are you doing here?!" The room was suddenly filled with snarling and angry wolves. I stood next to Silver knowing that whatever I was about to learn about his role in this strange world was going to be a game changer.
