"Nice landing Vers." Morrigan complimented the soldier's landing only because she was able to buckle herself in first. Vers smiled thankfully and stuck her hand out for Morrigan before chucking her jacket and hat beside her. The Queen takes it graciously and lets herself be pulled up and stand closer to Vers. Their eyes locked for a second until they heard the soft cooing near the ramp.
The trio walked down the ramp that opened up onto a large area of grass. In the distance, a small townhouse with a large shelter behind it caught Vers's attention. "That's it." Leaving the cat in the ship, the three make their way through the tall grass. The house fit the typical design of a Midgardian house with the decorative flora, craftsmanship and rubble for a driveway. The only odd thing was the surrounding forest of trees.
Eager to find Maria, Vers scans the house for any life form but only finds it behind under the massive shelter. Leaving Fury and Morrigan, Vers ventured around the back. "I hope this Maria knows something at least." Fury whispered, just in case.
"She does," Morrigan adds. "I hope Maria gives Vers what she wants, or this whole trip would be for nothing." Fury took a slight glimpse at the Queen, his eyes asking if this trip would be for nothing if Maria knew nothing.
The two walk-in silence around the edge of Rambeau's house until they come upon the shelter. A big white aircraft was situated under the roof while multiple working benches were spawned around it. There was some shuffling within the aircraft, movement near the benches and the echo of music filling the air.
Vers had stopped just by the wing of the aircraft. Fury stood back in the shade of the shelter as Morrigan edged herself closer to her. Her eyes were trained on the woman bustling about on the workbenches. "Excuse me, I'm looking for Maria Rambeau." The woman glanced up and dropped something metallic that hit the surface hard.

"Auntie Carol?" A young voice comes out from the aircraft. A girl with frizzy hair and an energetic smile crawls out. Her eyes light up when they gaze up at the soldier. "Mom! It's auntie Carol!" Morrigan's heart softens as the girl runs up to Gers, throwing her thin arms around the shoulder, embracing her as if she was a long lost relative. "I knew it. They said you were dead." Those words stung her soul. The way the girl looked up at Vers made Morrigan hold back a quiver from her lips. "But I knew they were lying."
The people she left behind were told she was missing. The years they must've spent believing she could return, but she never did. She never could.
The young girl doesn't receive a similar response by Vers. Her smile falters, and she slightly backs away from her. "I'm not really who you think I am." Vers looked up to find Maria. The mother of the girl puts her hand up to touch the wing of the plane. She wore an airforce uniform with a distinct shirt. All her face read was shock and disbelief.
"It's Maria, right?" The Queen doesn't give the woman a chance to reply. "Why don't we take this inside where we can all have a good talk?" Maria stares at Morrigan and then to Fury, and then back to Vers. The Queen could see the cogs in her head move as she decided to move this situation inside.
Maria nodded her head and motioned everyone to follow her. Then, leading the way to the back doe of the house with her child in front, Maria cautiously looked back. She had a nostalgic expression but wide, shocked eyes. Morrigan knew someone who looked at her that way before.
Once inside, Rambeau showed everyone to the kitchen. Vers and Morrigan found a place behind the kitchen counter as the Rambeau's situated themselves at a small table. Fury put himself to the side. When Maria asked what the fuck is going on, the newly arrived trio explained the whole reason for them being here. Vers went on about the Kree and Skrulls, and Morrigan informed them about her place on Midgard and her connection to Vers. Fury just stated he was a part of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It took a moment or two for the Rambeau's to digest all that was thrown at them verbally. "That was the craziest shit I've ever heard." Morrigan and Vers grin at each other as Maria watched them. The woman sensed something instantly between them.
Maria's daughter still couldn't get over the Skrulls being shapeshifters. "You are absolutely right, young lady." Fury said to the girl who just didn't believe there was such a thing. "There's no such thing. Because if there were, we would wanna keep it to ourselves." His annoyed tone was directed obviously o the two blondes who could care less right about now.
"You don't believe us?" Vers asked with a smirk. Turning away from the others, she came up to a Midgard cooking appliance. She placed her hand on a circular metal object and heats it up to an orange hue that emitted a soft buzzing sound. The appliance began to shrill as it got too hot.
Vers gave Morrigan the sign to prove the Rambeau's of what they were capable of. Swiftly sliding off the belt, Morrigan lets the leather strap extend straight before transforming out of its disguise into the lethal blade. She also stuck out her free and let a Root of Death sprout from her fingertips.
Both Midgardians were dumbfounded by the two aliens in their kitchen. Finally, the young girl stands up and hovers over to them. "No way! You guys are so cool!"
Fury laughs. "They can do a lot more, trust me."
The girl's eyes were attached to the shimmer of the sword and the glow of fire beneath the skin. "Like what? Show us."
Vers huffs as she turns down the fire. Morrigan shifts the sword back into a belt and lets the Root recede back into her palm. "Maybe later."
The girl changed the subject. "I kept all your stuff. I'll go get it." She zooms out from the kitchen in a hurry.
Suddenly, both Fury and Morrigan feel that they should leave Vers and Maria alone. They had some stuff to catch up on. "You two wanna give her a hand with that?" The God moves past Vers slowly, letting her hand graze the knuckles of Vers's. Then, as Fury takes a sip of his drink, Vers and Morrigan lock eyes once more. It was only until Fury had passed them did Morrigan retract her hand and follow in pursuit.
Fury and Morrigan hurry down a hallway where they could hear the girl rustling about in a cupboard. Reaching her first, Morrigan chuckles as the girl attempts to take a box that was on a pretty high shelf. "Here, allow me." Putting up her hand, the Root of Death seeps out from her tips and crawls up and around the selected box. Pulling it out slowly, Morrigan uses her power to lower the box into Fury's hands.
"Those things will forever haunt me in my dreams." Fury shudders as the Roots sliver back into her hands.
"But they're so cool!" Rambeau exclaims. Morrigan beams as Fury takes the box into another room with a dining table. Then, just as she was about to walk in with them, something in the kitchen caught her ear.

Life in another world with an Immunity System
NOTE: I just finished a large scale editing with the chapters. From now on, the world is no longer a 1000X Earth. I have added my original element. From here on, with a few exceptions, no similarity can be found with our Earth. Thank you. The change has been applied from chapter 1. So if anyone finds any missed places or traces of my previous world-building, please comment and notify me. Andel lived in a world where those with powers will have the final say in everything. In his world, having no aptitude to either magic or Ki means you are even worse than ants. Unfortunately, he didn’t have any aptitude to either. His life should have been hell, but due to being the son of two powerful parents and descendant of a powerful family saved him from a wretched fate. Life was harsh, but Andel wasn’t one to mourn and do nothing. From his childhood, he learned all kinds of close-combat styles and martial arts, proving himself to be a genius at close combat as long as ki isn’t involved. As genius as he was, there was no way he could match those with powers, right? Wrong! Andel had another identity. He was originally a person from Earth who got transmigrated after an accident. Moreover, during his transmigration, he also gained a system that gave him resistance to various things in exchange for experience points. With the Immunity System in hand, Andel decided to finally step into this magical new world and make a name for himself, after spending twenty years in training. Rooms of the Desolate
Rooms of the Desolate is a collection of short stories designed to guide the reader through the many rooms and mysteries of the bleak and greyscale labyrinth of the Desolate. The first entry, "The Forever Tower" follows an unnamed wanderer climbing an endless, colourless tower; the only world they have ever known. As they slowly ascend alongside the masses, they consider the nature of their world and look to the corridors as temptation beckons. The second entry, "Production Line", follows an engineer in a boundless factory, who encounters a product that does not wish to bow to the overseers and makes them question their belief in the truth and duties they were made to believe. Content guidelines: Current entries do not include explicit profanity, but future entries may do so, hence the presence of that tag. Some entries do include gore and violence, though not currently to particularly extreme degrees. The Desolate is exactly that: a desolate world; as such, it is bleak, downtrodden, and may deal with mental struggles. Cover art credit: Adam Borkowski on Pexels.
