She woke with a frown as she felt a rough shake on her shoulder. Begrudgingly, she opened an eye finding him looking down at her expectantly. "Come, we must travel." he said before walking away to do some chore he had set for himself. She gave an annoyed groan as she pulled herself up. The hard ground was hardly comfortable, but as much as they had walked the night prior, it may as well have been a downey mattress.

She'd pulled herself to her feet and was about to get to work, but had to stop as she felt her stomach turn in rebellion. Oh no, not now, she did not have time to be sick! Any time later but not now! She stood silently focusing on keeping her insides on the inside when he saw her and raised a brow. "Are you well?" he questioned. "I'm fine, just a little queasy, that's all." she explained. "Most likely because you failed to eat anything." he said. "Wow, thanks, how helpful." she grumbled. "Just pass me some water, I'll eat later." she said, which he wordlessly obeyed. After a moment she gathered her self and they proceeded with their journey.

By day two, her legs were cursing her name, she could only assume that by day three they would be cursing her forebears and her firstborn or something. Obviously, she couldn't complain for fear of more frail elf jabs from her companion. She supposed it wasn't so bad while she was walking, but she was not looking forward to when she sat down that night. Well, perhaps a slightly inaccurate assessment. By the end of it, she was quite looking forward to when she could sit down. She knew that all she was doing was walking, but wasn't used to long treks like this! She was a quite active person, she had to be, but that did not account for nonstop, day-long marches! The unstoppable force beside her, on the other hand, seemed completely unfazed but the long walk.

Finally, she sat beside the fire, heaving a great sigh of exhaustion. She was hungry enough at that point that she simply muscled down as much of the meat as she could stand, which wasn't much, but it was something. "I could just about kill for some food from home. Something breaded, like a pastry." she mused to herself. "I do not foresee the appearance of flour, certainly not sugar." he muttered. "I know, it just sounds good is all." she replied in exasperation at his constant pessimism. "Hey, what do Uruk Hai usually eat?" she asked before logic could tell her that she probably didn't want to know.

"Souls of widows and the fear of lost babes." he said. She frowned at him until he chuckled lightly to himself. "Our food is mostly provided by our master." he replied in seriousness. "Yeah, but what do you eat?" she pushed. "Mostly bread and any meat we can find." he said. "Bread? Huh, wouldn't have been my first guess. Although meat and bread doesn't sound very interesting." she said, "Fresh foods are hard to find in excess, especially during a war. The bread certainly does not count as fresh food." he said. "Lovely..." she said with a disgusted look. "It does not matter, after a drink of Uruk flochvel our soldiers could be satisfied with dirt if needs be." he said casually.

She gave a laugh, "I don't know what that is, but I do know moonshine when I hear it! Sounds like your people and my people may have more in common than we realized! Um... Don't quote me on that." she said, earning a low rumble of a laugh from her companion. He then moved to stand. "You should rest now."/ "What about you?" she asked, "I must keep watch." he replied. "You did that last night, it's my turn, you rest." she said. "That would be foolish, I do not require rest, you do." he said. "Oh, I'm fine! I can survive a night." she said. "I am fine, sleep." he urged. "No! I'm a big girl and can handle being a little tired. I'm assuming that when Uruk Hai travel they take it in shifts, so sleep." she said. "This is illogical." he grumbled. "Go on, macho man. Get some sleep while you can, cause I'm staying up." she said with a smirk. He simply glared with his arms crossed. Finally, he turned away and sat leaning against a tree his arms still crossed muttering something about her being stubborn.

She smiled in self-satisfaction as she climbed a tree to perch in and keep a lookout. She didn't know if he would actually sleep, he certainly wouldn't relax, but it was worth a shot. The night was quiet and she had to admit that after a while she found it hard to stay awake, but she did until dawn hit when she dropped from her branch and moved to wake him up. She wasn't certain if he was already awake or if he was a light sleeper, but before she could reach him she saw his eyes open and look to her expectantly. She crossed her arms, unintentionally matching his pose. "Well, come on then!" she said. He stood wordlessly and began gathering their supplies once more.

"How far until we reach the edge of the woods?" she asked as she maneuvered around briars and under branches. "We are still a ways away." he replied. "Have you not made this journey before?"/ "First of all that was different, and second of all that was a little while ago." she said. "At the time I wasn't trying to get somewhere, I was just trying to get as far away as possible, I wasn't really paying attention to how long it-" she trailed off as her mind suddenly turned upside down, her vision dark and splotchy. She quickly moved to regain her balance before she fell to the ground, but she suddenly felt a harsh pressure grasp her arm and hold her steady.

"Elayin, are you well?!" he demanded. She stood dizzy and discombobulated, but her mind quickly regained clarity. "Um, yeah. Vertigo I guess. I'm fine, really!" she said. He looked unconvinced and kept his grasp on her arm. "Go on, I'm fine! I'm not an idiot, if I need something I'll get it. Let's go." she said, as she shook free from his hold. He raised his brow but silently continued in his stride. She wasn't sure why she felt dizzy, but that was really all it was! A bit like when you stand too quickly. But she felt fine as she continued talking with him casually.

Some time passed with little deviation in the monotony of their travel. Between walking and camping, there was little to break up the tedium, save the conversations they shared. But finally, they laid eyes on a clearing that would broaden into an enormous plane, revealing the surface of her forest. "Finally! We're getting somewhere!" she exclaimed. He unrolled the map and looked it over. "We travel that way." he said as he pointed. "From here on out, I would not suggest a campfire, there would be naught to shade its light from enemy eyes."/ "Can't you just appreciate our progress?" she questioned with her arms crossed. "We are not even halfway there." he replied. "Jee, thanks for that." she grumbled. "Come, we have time before dusk." he said as he began walking ahead. Rolling her eyes, she followed.

She hadn't considered how unpleasant the night would be sans fire, but there she lay in the pitch black, hiding beneath her blanket and cloak. Her companion said nothing but sat peering into the dark. He had to be cold! His armor didn't even have sleeves! But there he sat, still as a statue, barely visible but for the shine of moonlight. She was tempted to warm herself on him, as he always had an excess of body heat, but she knew he wouldn't appreciate her distracting him when he was on lookout, so she tried to find what warmth she could in the folds of her blanket.

Though she was decidedly displeased with the nightly temperature, the day found her excited and curious. This was the first time she could properly see and appreciate the planes and fields. In all her growing up, she had only seen forests and trees, sunny meadows were unknown to her. They weren't so beautiful to her as the deep green of the trees, but she supposed there was a beauty in the seemingly endless fields stretching to the horizon. "I'd forgotten how broad this was. It seems odd not to see any trees." she mused. He glanced from her to the planes then turned back to his path. "It is not so strange to me." he muttered. "Of course not, you've marched about more." she replied. "Perhaps, but that has taken me equally to forests, but I am more familiar here." he said. "You know this area all that well?" she casually inquired. He nodded. "Not far south of here bore me." he said.

She looked up to him curiously, "You were born here?" she asked. "Near here." he replied. She gave a faint chuckle, "We seem to have had completely different upbringings. You on the planes, and me in the forest."/ "My youth was not so dedicated to the exploration of the habitat as yours." he said. "I wouldn't expect it so. Though you seldom speak of your childhood." she said in a tone that suggested she wouldn't mind if that changed, but he said nothing. She didn't push him further, despite her curiosity. She knew that his life was far different from hers, and may have been quite painful to recall, but his silence on the matter only made her wish to know all the more. Still, she bit back her curiosity, as she turned back to the miles ahead of them and spoke of what was to come.
