《Expectations》Chapter 16

"Pivot!" I yell as Shay and I round a corner, rolling one of Alex's wardrobe cases through the backstage halls.
"Pivot!" she yells back obnoxiously, clearly getting my Friends reference, causing me to laugh.
"Pivot!" we both obnoxiously yell, rounding the doorway to Alex's dressing room.
"What are you two yelling about?" Alex asks, clearly confused as to why we're laughing so hard and yelling.
Shay and I look each other dead in the eyes before yelling pivot! again and busting into another fit of laughter.
"Ok..." Alex says, going back to guzzling his water bottle. He must have just got back from his work out, dressed in a t-shirt, gym shorts, and tennis shoes. His face is lightly tinted red and his hair and shirt are wet with sweat.
"Wait," I cautiously ask, pointing an accusing finger at him. "Do you not get what we were just referencing?"
"No..." he says after finishing off his water bottle, furrowing his brows. "Why? Should I?"
"Should you?!" I repeat incredulously, throwing my hands up in the air. "Friends. It's from the TV show Friends!"
"Oh, I've never seen it." He shrugs as if its no big deal, plopping down on the couch.
"You mean to tell me that you've never seen Friends? Like, ever?"
"Nope."
"What is wrong with you?" I ask a little harsher than I probably should have, eyes wide in astonishment.
I can't believe this guy has never seen the best TV show of all time.
"What?" He laughs, only semi insulted at my statement.
"How can you have never seen Friends? It's literally the best show ever made. Have you been living under a rock your whole life?"
I'm not passionate about just anything, but Friends is near the top of my list of passions. I love that show with every fiber of my being.
"Guess so." He chuckles.
"I really can't believe you've never seen it," Shay finally speaks, shaking her head, backing me up. She goes over to the wardrobe case, making sure everything is in line and ready for the show.
"Believe it," Alex says.
"Ugh! You infuriate me, Walker," I say, dramatically plopping down on the couch. "I don't think we can be friends anymore."
"What?" He laughs, shooting his head over to look at me.
"Yep. I don't think I can be friends with someone that's so... uncultured."
"Oh my gosh," he says while rolling his eyes. "Get over it, Trett," he mocks me after using his last name.
"I don't think I can."
"Here's a thought," Shay pipes in, coming to sit down on one of the chairs. "Why don't we start watching it after shows? We can watch a few episodes every night and by the end of the tour we should be able to complete it."
"Yes!" I say, perking up. "That's brilliant!"
"I mean, I'd be down," Alex agrees, shrugging as if its no big deal.
"Get excited, Walker!" I say, slightly shaking his broad shoulder. "Your life is going to change forever! No, scratch that, your life is only about to begin!" I say, the excitement rolling off of me. Not only am I about to get to re-watch my favorite show for the hundredth time, but I get to expose Alex to one of the best things on the planet.

"Whatever you say." He snickers, lightly rolling his eyes at my statement, thinking I'm over exaggerating.
If only this boy knew that I'm not kidding.
"She's not joking," Shay says. "Now, you better get in the shower so I can get you ready for the meet and greets. Plus, you stink," she lightly jokes while scrunching up her face.
"Rude," he grumbles while getting off the couch to grab a towel, flinging it over his shoulder and going into the bathroom. The light pattering of water on the shower tiles is distinct a few seconds later as well as Alex's muffled voice, singing some random song.
Shay stands up and walks over to the vanity, pulling out all of the productions from her bag and placing them neatly on the counter. When pulling out a specific can of hairspray she holds on to it for a second, staring intently at it.
"Hey, Joslyn," she calls, looking over her shoulder at me.
I hum out a response, raising my brows a little to indicate that she has my attention.
"What do you think of this color?" She points to a light pink, blush toned stripe that runs horizontally around the can.
I get up from the couch to stand next to her, taking the can from her to inspect it more thoroughly, twirling it around in my hands to look at it in different angles and lighting. "I like it," I admit, turning around to face her, handing her back the can. "It's a nice shade. Subtle. Why?"
"I think this is the main color I want for my wedding," she mumbles in thought, intensely staring at the color on the can again.
"I think it's a good color," I say honestly. "It's nice. Not too bright or girly. I think it would be really pretty and elegant for a wedding."
"You think so?" she asks, lifting her eyes from the can to engage my reaction.
I simply nod in confirmation.
"I think I like it too." She smiles, admiring the color once more. "I think I'm going to do all blush tones and maybe throw some champagne color in there."
"I think that will be nice," I comment while picturing the color scheme in my head, smiling at her.
"Alright, it's settled then." She smiles while setting the can on the counter and excitedly claps her hands together.
I giggle at how easily she decided. "Do you have your dress picked out?"
"Yes!" Her face lights up at the mention of her dress. "Let me show you," she says before I even have the chance to ask, whipping her phone out of her pocket. Frantically tapping at the screen and scrolling through her photos, she finally finds a picture of her in her dress. "Here it is!" She smiles so wide, admiring it a moment before handing her phone over to me.
"Aww, Shay," I excitedly coo, gasping a little at the photo. "You look beautiful!"
She looks stunning in the photo and I can only imagine what she looked like in person. In the photo, she's smiling so bright while standing on a pedestal in a dress shop. The dress has a sweetheart neckline and capped sleeves, an off white color with lace details. It flares out below the mid-waist decorative belt and it looks absolutely elegant. Her dress isn't as poofy as Cinderella's, but she looks like a princess nonetheless.

"Thanks!" She's smiling so bright that I wouldn't be surprised if her cheeks hurt later. She looks over my shoulder, resting her chin there for a moment to admire her dress along with me.
"What are you two fawning over?" Alex asks, walking out of the bathroom in a pair of black skinny jeans and an olive green button up while towel drying his hair.
"Naked pictures of Zac Efron," Shay quickly says, turning off her phone and pocketing it.
I can't help but burst into laughter at how casually she said that statement and after watching Alex's reaction.
"Oh...ew." Alex pulls his brows together and scrunches up his face, looking slightly appalled at her statement causing Shay to laugh as well.
I roll my eyes at the whole situation and sit up on the counter. Alex comes to sit in the chair at the vanity and Shay goes back to unpacking all of her stuff.
"Shit," Shay says, rummaging through her bag and glancing up at the products on the counter. "Damn it."
"What?" Alex asks.
"I forgot that I ran out of your hair gel." She sighs, putting her hands on her hips. "Guess I have to make a run to the store," she says while walking over to grab her purse. "Do you guys need anything?"
"No, I'm good," Alex answers.
"No, I don't need anything. Thanks, though. Do you need me to go with you?" I ask.
"Nah, I can go by myself. I'll just call a cab and be back in a little bit. See you guys," she says, waving goodbye as she walks out the door.
"Bye," Alex and I say in unison.
Just as she walks out I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket.
Hey, we should do dinner together tonight!
I inwardly groan. This is the second time he's texted me since the beginning of tour to go out to dinner and I feel bad for wanting to reject him again. I just have a bad feeling that he wants this dinner to be as more than friends and I don't want to lead him on. Who knows, maybe he does just want to be friends, but I don't want to chance it.
Sorry, I can't. I'm pretty busy tonight.
I sigh and pocket my phone. Hopefully he buys that story again. Technically, I am still working and on the clock at dinner, but I don't view having dinner with Alex every night as a job. I do it on my own because I want to.
I can't help the yawn that escapes my lips. I only got a few hours of sleep last night after Alex and I were on the roof and I am definitely feeling the lack of sleep I got. Momentarily shutting my eyes, I lean my head back, trying to rest for a second.
"Hey," Alex says, standing to lean against the counter next to me. "You ok?" he asks, lightly brushing his shoulder against mine to gain my attention.
"Yeah," I hum out, lifting my head to look over at him, giving him a soft smile. "Just a little tired after not getting much sleep last night," I admit with a light chuckle.
"Yeah, I'm pretty tired too." He chuckles while scrubbing a hand over his face and up into his hair.
"Hey, Alex." Chris peeks his head in the door. "A friend of mine from the record label is here and wants to meet you." He jerks his head, signaling for Alex to follow him.
Alex lets out an annoyed huff, pushing himself off the counter to go follow Chris. Before leaving the room he sends me a small, almost apologetic, smile.
Taking advantage of the empty dressing room, I make my way over to the couch and lay down, wanting to rest my eyes for a minute.
I must have fallen asleep because the motion of someone gently lifting my feet up from the couch startles me awake.
"Whoa, calm down. It's just me." Alex chuckles, slipping his body between my legs and the couch, sitting down. He lays my calves on top of his thighs. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." He sheepishly smiles, cheeks turning a bit pink.
"No, I'm sorry. I didn't even mean to fall asleep." I pull my legs off of his to sit up.
"No, no. Its ok," he's quick to say, pulling my legs back on top of his by my ankles. "Stay. I don't mind. You can keep napping if you want."
I contemplate the offer. Looking at the clock on the wall, there is still plenty of time before the meet and greet. Normally I wouldn't even consider this but I am so tired. "Ok, fifteen minutes," I say while grabbing my phone to set a timer.
"Good." Alex props his feet up on the coffee table and leans his head back against the couch, making himself comfortable and closing his eyes. I guess he's going to take one too.
I relax back into the couch, closing my eyes once more. The feeling of Alex gently rubbing his hands up and down my shins helps lull me back to sleep.
The sound of someone's camera wakes me up. "Wakey, wakey," Shay sings, slipping her phone back into her pocket.
"What was that for?" I refer to her taking a picture of me.
"You two just look so cute." She giggles.
I let out a groan, mumbling a whatever because I know I probably looked ridiculous with drool probably coming out of my mouth or something. I twist to pick up my phone off of the coffee table and just as I pick it up the timer goes off. That and my movements to sit up seem to wake up Alex.
"Let's go, sleepy heads," Shay says, ready to get Alex photo ready so we can get to the meet and greet.

: Thanks for reading! Just a heads up, there are going to be some Friends references throughout the rest of the book, but nothing too in depth. I'm going to try my best to bring up general topics so that even if you haven't seen the show you'll be able to understand. Again, its not going to be anything big or referenced so often that it'll inconvenience you or the story. Just sorry in advance if you haven't seen or don't like the show! lol
Also, just thought I'd add a little gif of Joslyn at the top. lol :)
Question: Do you guys like when people add pictures and gifs in the headers? Is it something you'd like or recommend that I do with this book? Let me know in the comments below! :)
