"Baby what you know about this guy called TJ?",I said driving on the freeway.
"TJ TJ? Only person I know with that name is my uncle and he's locked up."
"Oh. Y'all close?"
"No. I just know him cause he was always with my dad when they needed to make a drop or somethin."
"Since he's your dad's uncle I thought y'all would be close."
"I haven't seen TJ since I was like 12."
"Dang. So what if I told you he's at the restaurant."
"Your kidding right?",she said laughing.
"Nah. He's in there",I said pulling up.
"You met him?",she asked me.
"We talked."
She sighed and she kinda looked worried. "Don't worry babe. I got you. Nothing gonna happen."
She looked at me and smiled. I got out the car and opened the car door open for her.
She got out with her heels on and asked me again how she looked. I told her she was beautiful and walked inside with her on my hip. All eyes were not even on me it was all on her as the first person to run up and hug her was her mother.
"Mom?",she said hugging her.
"What are you doing here?",she said. I excluded myself from the conversation and let them two have their space. I saw my boy Marcus with probably his third plate. I fixed mine and joined him at the table with Sean.
"Boy this thang bangin. Who cooked this Mac and cheese?",Marcus asked me.
I busted out laughing while taking a bite.
"Some lady at the church. You know they helped out with the food and stuff."
"Damn this thang good and your girl look good",he said as we both watched Khia walk to hug the pastor.

"Yeah she do. I wanna knock her up to be honest but not yet",I said. Marcus gave me a crazy look.
"Dude you ain't even graduate yet and you want a kid now?"
"Yeah i think it's time."
"You talked this over with her?"
"Hell Nah. But I will."
It was starting to get late and I ain't want people to start walking out before I did this proposal. I checked my back pocket to see if the ring was still there and it was. I could feel the palm of my hands get sweaty. I scanned the room for Khia and i didn't see her anywhere.
"Where's Khia?", i asked Marcus.
"Girl fight!", a girl yelled while running out of the ladies room. Shit, something tells me it involves Khia. Everyone immediately crowded the entrance of the bathrooms and I couldn't see nothing that was happening. I pushed people out the way to get through and so was Marcus.
By the time I got to the scene I saw khia's fist with blood and ebony on the floor crying in a pool of blood. Khia looked at me and said, "I-I didn't mean to."
Khia beating ebony up wasn't my concern cause I told ebony from the jump to stay away from her so whatever Ebony got, she asked for. I looked at Khia and then at ebony on the floor. Ebony's face or body wasn't in that much of damage for her to be in this pool of blood. It didn't register to me that ebony was holding her stomach because Khia killed her baby. I took my phone out and called the ambulance to get her to the nearest hospital. So much for my proposal night. It didn't take no time for them to show up. Everyone left the dinner in disappointment and sad. Khia and I had to go straight to the hospital to check to see if the baby is dead or alive. The pool of blood ebony was in made us believe that that baby was RIP.

"What happened?",i asked Khia before I pulled up at the hospital.
"She came for me. She was talking reckless and on top of that idk why she's even here. She had the audacity to show up with her big belly to flaunt it in my face."
"That's all that happened?"
"She made me mad so I pushed her against the wall. She punched me and I pushed her back."
"How hard you pushed her?"
"Hard enough for her to fall cause she was tryin me."
"But she's pregnant Khia."
"I don't give a f... ain't nobody told her not to use protection."
"You puttin me in tough situation babe",I said putting my hand behind my head.
"How? She came for me. Are you on her side or mine cause the way your acting right now people would think your the father."
"Khia don't play with me",I told her as we got out the car.
"Lately you've been talking to her. Oh you think I didn't know? I saw the calls on your phone",she said.
I pinned on the car door and kissed her.
"Don't do this right now. I gotta fix this not you so when we go in there, wait for me in the lobby."
She looked at me and was confused but I couldn't tell her the whole truth of why I cared about ebony somewhat. I invited her to the dinner but I didn't know Khia would've acted the way she did. I just prayed in my heart that she would ease off my case and Ebony's child would be okay.
We went inside and i kissed her on the cheek and told her to stay there. Walking down the halls, it smelled like death. I finally found eb's room and thank God trey wasn't there cause there would've been another fight tonight.
"Oh good. Are you the father?",the obgyn said while placing the jelly on her belly.
"Nah. Just a friend",i told her.
"Oh okay. Well we're in the middle of hearing the ultrasound so you came at the right time."
"Ight",i said looking at eb.
"Where the deadbeat at?",i asked her.
"Idk and i don't care. I just hope my baby is alive",she said reaching for my hand for some type a support.
The doctor searched for a heartbeat and after a while we heard it.
"It's weak but it's there. This is a miracle baby",the doctor said.
I thanked God in my head as the doctor left.
"Thanks for being here for me."
"It's no problem."
"Where's Khia?"
"She's down there in the lobby",I said looking at the time on my watch. She looked at me and said, "I'm sorry I ruined your proposal."
"It's cool. I'll find another way."
"Your a really good man tiago."
"I try to be."
"Khia doesn't deserve you."
"Why you say that?",I asked confused.
"Cause she just doesn't."
At that moment I ain't paid her no mind cause I knew that she was still mad at Khia. I took a seat next to her and suddenly we heard the door open and it was trey standing before us.
I immediately got up and said, "I'll holla at you later eb. Handle ya business man",I said walking past trey.

8 179The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
