《Charming Through the Lines》~Chapter 16~

Fast forward almost 2 weeks and here I am, sat in the front seat of Leo's Jeep, on our way to my parents house. We'd be staying in a hotel closer to the wedding venue, but my family is dying to meet Leo. I will say, they questioned why I wasn't bringing Josh. To be quite honest, it's a good question.
"We're 15 minutes away." are the words that come out of Leo's mouth almost 11 hours after getting into this car. Thank fucking god.
"Lovely." I reply, mid yawn. I hear Leo let out a chuckle but I'm too tired to even acknowledge it.
As I'm drifting off to sleep, I feel a tap on my shoulder. I open my eyes to see that we're parked in front of my parents house. My childhood home. I take a deep breath and turn my head to glance at Leo. His attention is focused on the home in front of us. It looks almost like he's observing every little detail about it.
I unknowingly let my eyes roam his side profile. His straight nose that tilts upwards ever so slightly, his perfectly filled lips, and his defined jawline. God he really is beautiful.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer." I snap out of my daze to see Leo looking straight at me, a smug grin plastered on his face. His damn, perfect face.
"Shut up," is the only thing that comes out of my mouth, "Lets just go say hi and leave, okay?" Leo narrows his eyes at me, but nods in reply.
We both make our towards the front door, side by side. His hand brushed against mine, which sent electricity through my veins. How am I going to survive living with him for 3 days?
Suddenly, I feel Leo's hand slowly mold into mine, loosely holding my hand. I looked up at him, but his gaze was fixed on the front door we had just made it to.
He lifts his free hand and leaves 3 firm knocks on the door. Footsteps and a few voices are heard until the door opens and reveals my mom.
"La mia bella ragazza!" My mom says as she squishes me into a hug, causing my hand to leave Leo's.
"Ciao madre!" I say happily. Even though my mother was rarely around, she still put more effort than my father ever did. I love my dad, but he never cared about me unless he saw I had a grade lower than a B+.

Mia madre finally releases me and switches her focus upwards to the giant human next to me who was awkwardly staring at us.
"Lui è bello." She says with raised eyebrows. I awkwardly laugh. Yeah madre, he is.
"Madre, this is Leo, Leo, this is my mom."
Leo holds his hand out, "Pleasure to meet you Ms. Hart." Instead of shaking his hand, my mom wraps her arms around him. I see his body stiffen at the suddenly contact, but after a few moments he wraps his arms around her.
"Oh honey, you can call me Elena," Leo nods his head, a friendly smile painted on his face. His goddamn dimples are showing, "Lets get you both inside." She says, opening the door for us to follow.
The house looks the same since the last time I was here. Leo's hand catches mine, connecting our hands once again. I smile to myself. I like the way his hands feel with mine.
"How long are you here?" My mom asks as we make our way into the family room.
"Not long. I wanted to check into the hotel early." She nods her head in acknowledgement.
When we fully make it into the family room, I see Will and his fiancé, Melia, sitting on the couch. Will's eyes shoot up to mine, a grin spreading across his face.
"Hey little sis." He always greets me like that. I hate it.
"Hey jackass." I reply with a smile. That earns a loud gasp from Leo. I turn to look at him, his expression filled with shock.
I mouth, what?
He shakes his head smiling. Weird.
"Aria! Fai attenzione al tuo linguaggio!" My mom shouts, lightly hitting my arm. I mutter a "sorry" and lead both me and Leo to the empty chair.
I let go of his hand as he takes a seat on the leather chair. His massive body takes up the entire chair, leaving the only place to sit, is on the arms of the chair. I place my butt on the right arm of the chair, my left leg hanging on top of Leo's right.
Something warm covers the top of my thigh. I look down and see Leo's hand resting on my bare thigh. Yeah, I'm wearing shorts in the fall. Don't judge.
I glance at Leo, but his attention is fixed on the conversation he's having with my brother. I try to listen to what they're saying, but the little circles Leo is drawing on my thigh with his thumb takes all my attention.

After 30 minutes of Leo and my brother talking and me trying to keep my calm, I finally decided we should leave.
Leo and I say our goodbyes and leave my old home. Though I'm glad we visited, I can't help but feel triggered being in that house after what happened.
When we pull out of the driveway, Leo speaks up, "We're about 15 minutes away from the hotel. Do you want to look for somewhere to get food on the way?"
"Sure, I'm not super hungry though." I reply quietly.
"Get something small then, but I do want you to eat." Leo replies. I turn to look at him and see he's already looking at me. He's always looking at me. Weird.
"Watch the road dumbass." I told him.
"Sorry, I was just admiring something." He laughs and turns his focus back on the road, a smile spread across his face.
Wow. He's smooth.
"Don't think your compliments will work your way into my heart, Wright." I comment.
He lets out another deep laugh and replies, "Well I tried."
"Your charm doesn't work on me."
"What can I do to make my way into your heart?" He says in a deep, somewhat sexy, tone. The question surprises me. A lot. What the hell do I even say to that?
"Oh shut up." Is all I can manage to say. Yeah I say that a lot. I know.
A few minutes pass by and Leo pulls into the drive-thru of McDonalds. Oh lord I'm going to be sick tonight.
"What would you like, sweetheart?" I ignore the fact that he called me sweetheart and look through the menu.
"Small vanilla milkshake please," I told him. He nods at me and orders two of my order, "You a vanilla milkshake guy?"
"Nah, more of a chocolate kind of guy but I thought I'd get whatever you'd get." He answers while pulling forward to pay.
The girl at the cash register's mouth slightly drops when she sees Leo, "Your total is $5.29." She says in a "seductive" voice. I rolled my eyes at her tone. Luckily Leo didn't see.
Leo handed her his credit card. After she swipes it, she says, "I know we just met but would you like to hangout sometime?"
Before I even know what I'm doing, I lean over, placing my hand on Leo's thigh, "I don't think my boyfriend would be very interested." I feel Leo's eyes on me, but I keep my eyes on the blonde girl and smile at her. Her face begins to turn pink and she apologizes. I pull away and lean back in my seat as Leo takes his credit card back.
Not a word is said when we get our drinks. Complete, utter, silence. God this is killing me.
As we pull out of the drive-thru and back to the road, Leo finally says something, "What the hell was that?" I look at him, but he isn't looking back this time. Okay.
"I don't know, okay? I just thought it was weird that she was using that flirty tone with you when there's a whole other girl sitting next to you." I look back at Leo and see that his face is all scrunched up, no doubt that he's holding back a smile. What the fuck?
"We're just friends, aren't we?" He says. I could almost swear there was a hint of teasing in his tone.
"Yeah," I say quietly, "Just thought it was weird. Sorry that I just turned down a chance for you to go out with someone."
Leo scoffs, "I wasn't looking to go out with her. Especially if I'm here for you." The sentence sends a tingly, warmth through my body. My heart rate seems to increase because it feels like I can't breathe.
"Okay." I reply quietly. To be honest, he got me there. I'm at a loss for words.
The rest of the drive is silent, the soft noise of the radio playing through the speakers.
-
We finally pulled into the parking garage of the hotel. I need sleep.
Leo checks into the front desk and leads us into the elevator and up to our room.
He scans the keycard and walks through the door first. The room is nice and clean, but there is one thing missing.
The second bed.

I, Mor-eldal: The Necromancer Thief
As a budding little necromancer, I soon discovered that the world of city people is complicated. When my master kicked me out of the cave, he warned me not to talk about my “dark” magic, because people here don't like the undead. I am not really an undead, I just have a skeleton hand, but it is better to be careful. Anyway, that's not my biggest worry. In the Black Dagger brotherhood, I learn a lot of things, such as illusionist magic, which turns out to be quite handy to survive in this maze of streets: in the Cat Quarter, we have thugs of all kinds that are best avoided. But we also have good people, goodhearted “gwaks”, as we say around here. Little did I know that I would soon be caught up in an infamous traffic that would entangle my life even more. With a mix of lighthearted adventure and picaresque, this story narrates the hectic life of a good-spirited street child and his companions in a medieval urban fantasy setting with some nineteenth-century influences. Updates Mondays and Fridays. This is a Creative Commons By work. It is a translation of a trilogy I wrote in Spanish between 2017 and 2018.
