《What could possibly go wrong? Rodrick Heffley x reader》Chapter 32

“Okay, I’ve been meaning to ask you this for a long time now. You wear this cross chain sometimes, but you always skip church on Sundays. I’m curious. What exactly are your religious beliefs if I may ask” you asked taking a sip of your coffee as you pulled into the seniors parking lot.

“You’re pretty observative” Rodrick chuckled amused, tiredly looking up from his phone screen. “I’m Christian. Catholic to be precise. I believe in God, Jesus and a few events that the bible describes. But the church isn’t doing it for me, you get me?” he spoke calmly, sipping his coffee as well. “See, especially after all these pedophilia scandals. Like, I know this doesn’t define the church but it’s unacceptable to me and I’m not tryna confess how I did Greg dirty to a guy that might have possibly raped a 7-year-old. Might as well apologize for my sins while praying at night” he added as you nodded understanding, secretly impressed by how serious he spoke.

“I don’t even know how to call myself honestly. But I think that just by simply truly believing in God’s existence, I’m just as much Christian as my parents are, even though they go to church like every week. I don’t care. I mind my business they mind theirs. Who am I to judge anyone after all? You do you, as long it doesn’t harm anyone, right?” he added looking up at you, trying to process everything he just said. It was only 7.30 in the morning after all.

“Amen” you answered grabbing your bag from the backseat, before locking the car.

Heading to school, Rodrick casually slung his arm around your back. You shared your first two history periods together, which made the day seem a little less shitty than it actually was. In fact, history was never a boring class and at least guaranteed you a good, chill morning.

Just like today. Everything was going great. You’ve met Mads and Chris in class.

While handing Rodrick back his car keys she told you about how her and Ben decided against getting matching tattoos for now since they couldn’t decide on something both of them would like. Instead, they went to the movies and had a whole horror flim marathon. She told you about how amusing it was since Ben quite literally nearly shitted his pants out of fear and clung to her like a baby when a scary scene would come up.

When class started Mr. Williams once again managed to make history sound like the latest news. I'm pretty sure everyone knows those teachers who act like their job is some sort of punishment. Teachers who hate everything, everyone around them including themselves. With Mr. Williams it was the exact opposite. You could see how dedicated he was, how much he loved and enjoyed his job.

In fact, you could literally feel it, since his attitude had a direct impact on your whole history class. A very positive impact to be precise. There was no one who scored lower than a B- in the last written exam. Keep in mind Rodrick and Chris attended this class too.

He dealt with the topics quickly and accurately and almost never gave homework. And besides being a perfect teacher, he was a kind person too. He cared about his students and their mental health. He knew to not ask a student who didn’t raise their hand for an answer, because he quite plainly wasn’t a dick. Protect this man at all costs!

Anyway, so yeah. Everything was great until one of your classmates dropped their glass water bottle on the floor. The flask shattered into what looked like a million pieces and the water spilled everywhere.

You immediately offered to go to the janitors closet to get some rugs for the spilled water and a broom for the broken glass, wanting to get out of this classroom for a moment anyway, because wandering around the empty hallways while everyone’s inside studying >>>>>.

Mr. Williams of course agreed to your request immediately, grateful for your help he quickly handed you the hall pass. Now you didn’t have a lot of time to wander around the school but it certainly was better than nothing.

Lost in your own thoughts you swung open the door to the janitor's closet. And just as you were about to step inside you froze and so did the two freshman that were literally fucking each other in there.

You stared at each other for a second before you finally spoke up. “Fucking delightful” you commented before swinging the door close so that they could get dressed.

“That’s a little ghetto” you added as they tried to explain themselves to you, but you quickly interrupted them. Again lol.

“Listen, I couldn't care less. Keep doing whatever the fuck you were doing or don’t. Just pass me the broom and a few rugs and we’re good” you spoke calmly rubbing your eyes, trying to delete the image out of your mind. It’s 9 in the morning. What the hell bro.

After a moment a small slit in the door opened again and a hand peaked out holding the items you asked for.

“Thanks” you said hesitantly grabbing the objects. I really do need to wash my hands after this.

“We owe you” you heard the guy say on the other side of the door. Hell yeah you do.

“You’re good” you answered before finally walking away.

This whole interaction didn’t last longer than a minute, but neither did the guy probably. Yet it felt like a fucking eternity, and by the time you were back in class you knew for sure you'd skip breakfast for today.

The rest of the day passed quiet calmly. By the time lunchbreak hit, which was right this moment actually, you regained your appetite and ate your food peacefully. I mean, as far as you could enjoy the food served in schools.

You decided to not tell anyone what you saw this morning, because to be fair it’s pretty fucking embarrassing and you weren’t a sadistic bitch. At least not to such an extent.

It’s funny how I went from talking about God with Rodrick one moment and walking in on freshman doing the devils tango the other. This whole situation was so ridiculously ironic that you didn’t even notice yourself smiling amused at your plate for a whole while now until Ben finally pointed it out.

“You high Y/N?” he asked smiling entertained as you snapped up, coming back to reality in a split second.

“No. But I wish I was to be honest” you answered, taking a bite of your apple-pie lazily.

The smile on Ben's face widened immediately.

“I believe that can be arranged” he spoke coolly. “You know I’m down whenever you are” he smiled leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed over his chest. You nodded. You knew damn well he was. It was Ben we are talking about after all.

“I’m offended. You don’t ever wanna smoke pot with me Papi” Chris spoke up from the other side of the table. Ben turned to him with his brow slightly raised.

“Yeah, cause you’re fucking annoying when you're high” he answered as Chris opened his mouth in shock, looking beyond offended.

“The last time he smoked a blunt his hearing went crazy. I don’t know what this man heard but he was a hundred percent sure the aliens were coming to get us, with the purpose of destroying humanity and taking over the earth. He freaked out so badly he literally wanted to call the cops. Mind this. We were both high. I tried to stop him and he literally started crying and the-” Ben spoke before finally being interrupted by Chris’ loud theatrical coughing.

“Stop. Thanks for your input in this conversation but I think we’ve heard enough” he added rubbing his neck uncomfortably before looking away embarrassed.

“I would love to hear the rest of the story actually” Jake threw in, grinning at Chris devilishly.

“No. You’re good” he answered quickly. “I believe Rodricks first time was way more eventful than mine anyway” he added, trying to distract from himself as everyone’s gazes shifted to Rodrick who was barely participating in the conversation.

“No the fuck it wasn’t” he answered looking up confused. “We got high for the first time together you idiot. I literally just had a good time. Two or three laugh flashes and then fell asleep peacefully in bed. You on the other hand...” he added but once again was interrupted by Chris.

“Did the exact same as you did. Ya’ll both having some weird ass memory recollections” he threw in as Rod and Ben shot themselves a quick, knowing look.

“Of course, you did. My bad” Rodrick answered quickly before turning back to his plate again shooting you a small smile that said ‘I’m gonna tell you later’.

Suddenly and completely out of the blue you’ve noticed your favorite blonde girl approaching the table you were sitting at from across the room – the one and only Regina George of Plainview – ready to confront the common people.

Your friends spotted her too.

“I bet you $5 she will come up to congratulate you guys for winning the contest” you commented quickly before anyone else had the chance to, so that you could be the one to say “I told you so” afterwards.

“I bet she will come up and invite us to some sort of party” Ben threw in next.

“It’s Tuesday” Rodrick remarked plainly as Ben shrugged nonchalantly.

“So what. Her parents are probably out of town leaving her home alone. I don’t know. That’s always what rich people do in those movies” he answered bluntly.

“She’s not alone. She has a younger sister. Her name is Holly” Rodrick commented quickly, everyone’s gaze now shifting to him. You looked at him with your eyebrows furrowed.

“And I know this because Greg has a huge crush on her and not because I was quite literally obsessed with Heather for about three years” he tried to explain himself unsuccessfully.

Noone had a chance to say anything else as Heather was now standing in front of you, smiling down at you with her perfectly symmetrical, pink lips and white straight teeth.

Her character was pretty much trash from what you’ve experienced but that was about her only visible flaw. Now sitting in front of her you analyzed her from head to toe. You weren’t going to participate in whatever conversation this would evolve into. At least that's what you planed on doing.

“Hi Rodrick,” she greeted tilting her head to the side. “Chris and..uhm you” she added referring to Ben, who looked at her visibly pissed off.

She didn’t even bother to address the others sitting around the table. “I just wanted to congratulate you guys for winning this contest. You were amazing” she spoke smiling.

“I didn’t know you’ve seen us play” Rodrick answered, shoving his stuffed fork into his mouth.

“Oh, I haven’t. But you guys won so I just assumed..” she blurted out, instantly regretting what she said. Her cheeks turned pink. They always did when she was nervous, you noticed. You would think it was cute if she wouldn’t be an absolute bitch.

“Anyway, I just wanted to ask you guys whether you would want to hang out after school. Bryce's parents aren’t home and since we don’t have school tomorrow because of this teacher training, I’ve invited some people over. It’s not eve..” she spoke as you and Ben made eye contact from across the table, both doing your best to suppress your laughter. You would make amazing fortune tellers.

After you internally didn’t feel like you would burst out in loud laughter the second you'd look at her you turned back to face her. She was still talking but you weren’t listening anymore. Instead, you just stared at her. No, let me correct myself. You quite literally admired her.

Heather is objectively looking one of the prettiest girls I’ve ever seen. And I’m surprisingly not joking right now. She had pretty features. A pretty face, a pretty body. She was the definition of pretty. It wasn't anything extraordinary like Maddie's beauty. But she was societies beauty standard and it doesn’t surprise me Rodrick has a crush on her. And I don’t hate neither him or her for that. It just makes sense.

In fact, I don’t hate Heather at all. I mean, yes, she pisses me off badly. But secretly I believe that if we started off differently, we could have been friends today. Unironically. I’ve been thinking about this lately. I like her big ego and confidence. This might sound weird but I really do. It lowkey makes her a bad bitch. She doesn’t fuck with anyone she doesn’t like and doesn’t hide when she absolutely despises someone. Felt that myself lol. But yeah, it kind of makes her an authentic person even though she’s grinning like a fucking barbie doll looking at Rodrick right now acting all fake.

But I don’t know. I feel like we could be a pretty powerful duo. But I might be completely wrong on this one. Maybe something not too deep now. I do really like her outfit. Her sparkly hot pink skirt matching the boots and tie along with a white blouse. Also how does she curl her hair like tha-?

“Why the fuck are you staring at me like that?” Heather's harsh voice suddenly brought you back to earth. You looked around trying to identify who she was talking to when you realized it might have been you.

“You’re talking to me?” you asked, your voice coming out tired and a little raspy as she nodded her head. Of course, she did talk to you. Because why the hell would she act like a decent human being for once.

“No reason. Just like your outfit, really suits you” you answered giving her a sly smile knowing damn well you made her feel guilty for giving you this attitude.

She blushed. Typical. How funny. You made her nervous.

“A- Are you serious?” she stuttered as you nodded your head. Now this is amusing.

“Thank you” she answered still flustered before shaking her head lightly. “I mean of course I do” she corrected herself, regaining her composure. And there it was again, her defensive self.

“Anyway, as I said. You’re all invited. I assume though that you will not be able to make it Y/N” she stated, giving you an evil pitiful glance that you returned with a confused look.

“I mean since you and Rodrick broke up I assume things are awkward and we don’t want bad vibes at the party” she explained.

“We are actually closer than we have ever been before, but thank you for your concern, Heather” Rodrick spoke up, casually laying his arm over your shoulder, pulling you closer. “Appreciate it.”

“True. But as you said before, I will sadly not make it to your party anyway” you said leaning back in your chair crossing your hands over your chest. “But I do appreciate the oh so kind invitation.”

She raised her brow at you confused, your friends giving you disoriented looks too.

“And why if I may ask” she questioned puzzled.

“Because I cannot stand you and your friends” you answered bluntly. It was the truth and it hung in the air, so why not just say it?

Ben burst out in loud laughter followed by Rodricks failed attempt to suppress his own one too.

Heather looked at you shocked, disbelief written in her face.

“Well, that’s good because me and my friends cannot stand you either” she said after a few seconds of her standing there like a stick up in her ass, her reaction as always immaculately clever and creative. It’s like the debate club was practically calling for her. Maybe I should join the debate club. Naah.

“That is in fact only partly correct. You cannot stand me. Yes. That’s true and it does seriously harm my feelings by the way. Your friends on the other hand..I doubt them hating me. I mean your ex-boyfriend practically tried to fuck me on this dinner table in front of everyone on my first day of school. Which is not much of a flex but does sadly prove my point” you answered gesturing to the

dinner table she just came from.

“I hate you” she shouted at you. What an overreaction. I cannot believe she’s getting so worked up over some mediocre football dude who’s only personality trait is being a dick.

“And I love your skirt” you answered smiling.

Arguing with Heather was in fact very entertaining if you approached it from a certain angle.

“Fuck you.”

“Now I bet you’d like that” you answered smiling, immediately regretting it, the picture of the two freshman this morning sneaking back into your head.

She turned around and angrily walked away without another comment. You decided you would let her without mocking her no more. She needed to cool down first. I guess that’s it for being a powerful friends duo for now. Pity.

It was just as you turned away from Heather that you were met with your friends entertained faces.

“Why the fuck are you staring at me like that?” you imitated Heather before everyone finally erupted in loud laughter.

“Did you just flirt with Heather?” Rodrick asked through his own laughter as your friends calmed down and started discussing the party invitation.

“Yes. Jealous?” you answered smiling cunning.

“Yes. Very much so,” he answered unswerving.

“I’m sorry for flirting with your boo, but I cannot promise that it won’t happen again” you stated sarcastically.

“I never said who exactly I was jealous of, Y/N love” he said grinning devilishly.
