“Okay, so that was my presentation on the topic ‘dreams’. I hope you enjoyed it and if you have any questions, hopefully you don’t, feel free to ask me” you said with a relieved smile on your face taking in the applause of your class mates.

After a moment passed and no one raised their hand you turned to your teacher “Okay, so apparently there are no questions. Do you have any ma’am?” you asked nervously.

“No Y/N, you did an excellent job. Thank you so much, you may take your seat now” the elderly woman responded kindly.

She is your psychology teacher and you absolutely love her. Since your first day at school, she was nothing but friendly and your current relationship is more of a grandma-granddaughter one than a teacher-student one.

As you approached your seat it was time for the feedback round- the worst shit ever.

You watched 3 students raising their hands – Maddie, Jake (a guy you liked talking to and would actually consider your friend) and Heather. Well, shit. Here we go.

“Maddie, go ahead” your teacher said.

She quickly gave you that look and you knew exactly what was about to happen.

“Okay so, I really loved your presentation and I think that this was actually the best one I’ve ever heard” she said as you rolled your eyes and your teacher laughed. “And it’s not like I’m saying this because she is my friend. Nah-ah. She spoke fluently and have you seen the slides? Please, this was like an artistic masterpiece. Also, it was SO interesting.” she added making big hand gestures. “Like I genuinely feel like that presentation changed my life Mrs. Jackson.”

You watched her wide eyed but couldn’t wipe away the smile of your face. This girl is crazy. I love her.

“Wow. Miss Smith, you don't seem convinced” your teacher said playfully.

“This one deserves a noble price” she said proud.

“Oh my God. Maddie!” you said clapping your hand in your face to cover how red you were.

After that, you listened to Jake’s feedback, which was a little more realistic, but still really good.

As he finished you gave him a grateful smile, which he responded with a small wink that made you laugh.

But the worst part was yet to come. “Miss Hills, go ahead” Mrs. Jackson said once again, giving her the green flag to start.

She turned around to face you and gave you that smile.

That evil, bitter, mischievous smile you knew from your first day at school already.

“Okay, well I mean Jake and Madeline were obviously exaggerating. I, personally, have no idea what supposedly is so special about that presentation, like I’m pretty sure my 12-years-old sister could do the exact same thing, maybe even better” she said innocently.

“Furthermore, I have quite a few questions concerning the pictures you’ve used” she added now turning around to face you and you had to bite your tongue to not lose your temper right in front of Mrs. Jackson.

“Go ahead” you said calmly, letting out a heavy sigh.

“Okay so there was that first picture I didn’t quite catch why you chose. Also, where did you get it from? I mean fine, you listed all of your sources, but not for the pictures. I don’t think that’s fair. Have you ever heard about copy rights? Well, yeah. I didn’t expect you to, but you know there is something like that and you-” but she was cut off by the bell.

“Okay, thank you for that really detailed criticism Heather” your teacher spoke up immediately.

“Okay, but I wasn’t done yet Mrs. Jackson, also don’t you dismiss us and not the bell?” she quickly added.

“Yes, that’s right Miss Hills, I just think I’ve heard enough and that’s what I’m doing. Miss Y/L/N, please come see me after class so we can discuss your grade and the rest of the class is dismissed. Have a lovely evening, my dears” she said smiling at the class.

And that’s how your lesson ended. You watched everyone pack their stuff, Heather aggressively throwing her notebooks into her bag and lastly all of them leaving one-by-one, Jake and Mads giving you a quick thumbs up.

You quickly put all of your stuff into your backpack and approached the teacher's table.

“Sit down, my dear” she said kindly pointing at the chair, right in front of your desk. You did as she continued talking. “I’m so proud of you” she added and you felt your cheeks growing red.

“Thank you so much ma’am, that means a lot to me, that presentation really took me quite a while. Also, I’m sorry I didn’t name the sources of the pictures, I really should have done that.”

“Oh no. No, no, no, no. That’s not what I mean. You’re obviously getting an A for that; you really did a good job. But what I meant is that I’m so proud that you actually stayed so calm with Heather. Her criticism was unreasonable, especially the first part of it, and if I was at your place, I probably would have snapped” she said and you let out a quiet laugh.

“Well, to be honest I’m quite surprised I didn’t actually” you answered. “It was a very close one.”

“Okay, so tell me” she said, not breaking eye contact with you folding her hands in some strange way you’ve never seen before. “What’s up with you and Heather? Spill the tea. I think that’s how you guys call it.”

And after that you couldn’t help but laugh out loud, your eyes getting all watery. “I’m sorry ma’am” you said trying to regain your cool, expecting her to get mad at you. But all she did was to explode in laughter as well.

“Okay, so honestly, I don’t really know myself” you said after a moment as the both of you have calmed down. “She just said that she doesn’t like new people because they’re getting attention for no reason and since then she sees me as her biggest enemy basically and to be fair, I don’t really like her either.”

She gave you a serious look for once. “You know, I know Heather for many years now, and what I know for sure is that she loves being the center of attention. So, since you’re new, and obviously pretty and kind, she might see you as potential thread. I don’t know what thread exactly, but I assume that this is ab-” but she was interrupted by a person running down the hallway calling your name.

You immediately recognized the voice.

“Oh no” you whispered quietly, giving your teacher an apologetic look.

She freezed and the both of you were looking at the door in which a moment later Rodrick appeared in.

“Here you are Pixie” he said relived with a small smile on his face, not noticing Mrs. Jackson at first. “I’ve been searching you for like 10 minutes now, I thought you got lost or-” and that was the moment he noticed your teacher staring at him with an amused look.

“Oh, uhm. Mrs. Jackson, it’s nice seeing you again.” he said nervously rubbing the back of his neck. “I-uh. I really love your lectures uhm, about, uhhh, you knoooow. Dreams.”

“Mr. Heffley, I love your enthusiasm for my lessons but sadly, we weren’t discussing that topic yet” she answered raising her brows slightly.

“Ah, see. You know, I obviously knew that” he said nervously playing with the rings on his hand. “I was just uh, testing you.”

Oh no, wrong move Rodrick. Very wrong move. You turned around making quick eye contact, mimicking, trying to tell him that he fucked up.

“Testing me Mr. Heffley?” she asked, nodding her head slightly. “Okay, so since I passed, I feel like it’d only be fair if I test you now. I want you to prepare a 40 minutes long presentation about fear. You’ve got one week.”

“No, please.” he said pleading.

“Shall I make it 60 minutes, Mr.Heffley?”

“No, no, no. But come on, that’s like so unnecessary I don’t see how-” but you quickly interrupted him, because you knew that he would only make it worse.

“Fine, he’ll do it” you said, feeling Rodrick's intense eyes at your back. “But could we please make it 20 minutes only? I promise he’ll make them and it’s going to be a great presentation. It’s just so much right now” you said taking Rodricks hand in yours, putting on a sad face expression, knowing exactly that neither of them knew what was going on.

“See, we just started dating and couldn’t hang out at all lately. Partly because of school, but also because of my own psychology project and because of his band practice and all that. It’s just so overwhelming. We’ve been really distanced lately and it just hurts me so much” you said looking down for the dramatic effect. “I just miss hanging out with him.”

You’ve heard your teacher letting out a quiet sigh and with that you knew that you did it. “Fine, you don’t have to do it at all. I know how important this relationship thing is at your age” she said calmly.

You looked up at her with that really emotional face expression you liked using in moments like these. “Really? Thank you so much ma’am. You’re the best.”

“Okay, and now go kids, go.” she said gesturing with her arms.

You gave her one last smile and then quickly stood up leading the still shocked Rodrick out of the classroom.

As the both of you were out of her sight you started running down the empty hallway, so that she couldn’t catch you if she changed her mind.

“How come you’re so good at stuff like this?” he said turning to face you still running.

You looked up at him “Please, I’m not good. You’re just incredibly shitty Rodrick.” you said earning a smile from him. “Also, Pixie? Seriously?” you asked slowing down as you reached the main door, leaving school behind.

“Well, yeah. Look, I’ve been thinking about new nicknames for you during class and that’s what I thought of. See how pixels are like really small. I think they’re like one micrometer. So, since you’re that small, I thought Pixie would work great” he said proud.

You looked up at him raising your eyebrows slightly. “Rodrick, my height is normal, just like an average girl. It’s not my fault you’re 6’2. You’re a giant.”

“I’m sorry, what did you say? I couldn’t hear you from down there.”

You crossed your arms in front of your chest pissed off and murmured under your nose "You bitch.”

He looked down at you with his eyes wide open “Excuse me, how can you call your lovely, attractive, funny, smart and kind boyfriend whom you missed so much like that?” he asked dramatically.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” you answered innocently.

He rolled his eyes playfully as the both of you entered his car. “Okay, so tell me now. How did it go today?” he asked referring to your project and day in general. And with that you told him the whole story as the both of you drove home together.
