《Unexpected Fondness┊saiki k x m!oc》dieci┊Chapter 10

Asher decided not to waste his time on the birthday party his friends were throwing for Saiki. It wasn't actually his birthday, so what's the point?
Besides, he had other things to worry about.
Christmas. Gifts.
Not only did he have to get a gift for his mother, but he also needed to get one for each of his friends. That's five people!! He never had to think so hard before....
For his mother, it wasn't too complicated. His mom wasn't into much, just jewelry and kitchen utensils.
Kaidou, he knew would probably appreciate someone that revolved around Jet-Black Wings or the power he seemingly had.
Nendou... he's the kind of guy to appreciate anything.
Aren, maybe... something involving a motorcycle? He also heard he likes to draw...
And Saiki. Oh, boy. He had no clue what to do.
He doesn't know any of Saiki's interests (besides sweets) or hobbies. What was he supposed to do!?
He was thinking of baking a shit ton of pastries, but that couldn't be good for Saiki's health.
And Asher wanted it to be something sentimental. Something Saiki would forever remember.
So, Asher spent all of his days before Christmas thinking and planning on Saiki's gift, along with his other friend's gifts.
Somehow, Saiki never caught wind of what his gift would exactly be. But, he did know it was on the brunette's mind all the time.
The school was given a break during winter, just for the holidays that would be passing.
Asher had actually planned a small get-together at his house. He invited the whole gang- even Saiki's parents! He couldn't forget about his mother, now could he?
They would all be spending Christmas together... how lovely.
Asher and his mother spent much time together, putting up lights and cleaning as they went. It took longer than it should have, only because Asher would take a break every 5 minutes.
The brunette was actually allowed to help his mother cook this time, so, fortunately, the food wouldn't be so bad. He tried managing most of the food, but his mom still made a majority of it.
Including some of the sweets. Which was a scary decision, but there was no sway in his mom's choice.
They prepped the food a day in advance, so now they were doing light touch ups and getting themselves ready for the guests that would be arriving soon.
Asher didn't want to wear anything too uncomfortable. He put on a red and black striped shirt, with a white short underneath and black pants.
Throw on some jewelry, and it's good enough.
Now, Asher was in the kitchen, adding a few touches to the food while his mother was still in her own room getting ready.
There was a knock at the front door.
'They're here-!!'
"I'll get it! I got it!" He heard his mom's voice echo throughout the house as she ran from her room, to the front of the house.
He stayed silent as he listened to the faintly greeting each other and making their way into the house.
'I'm so nervous, I'm so nervous, I'm so fucking nervous. Hopefully the food isn't that bad.'
'You shouldn't be nervous unless you have something to hide. You know us already.'
"Asher, hey buddy!" Asher turned when he heard Nendou's voice, sending the other a grin and a small wave.
"Hey, guys. Glad you came... you can sit at the table- we had to improvise and pull a few chairs over." Asher started bring the food over to the table, with the help of his mom.

"Ohh, it smells so good!" Saiki's mother complimented, the others agreeing.
"Yeah, my mom and I made the food. We don't normally cook this much food, so it was a little difficult."
Asher looked around the group of people, an eyebrow raising when he saw Teruhashi and Hairou..?
'Why are they here? I mean, Hairou is fine, but Teruhashi..?'
'I agree.'
They all sat around the table. It was a little cramped, but manageable. They dug into the food after plating themselves.
"Wow..! Ms. Mortelli, this is amazing!" Saiki's father was almost in a complete daze as the munched on the food, as well as the other guests.
The blonde female blushed lightly and gave a small laugh. "Oh, it's not all that... Asher usually doesn't enjoy it that much."
"W-what? That's not true-"
"I can always see it on your face. No need to lie."
'So either he has a weird taste palette, he's an extreme perfectionist.'
They began to converse with each other as they enjoyed the food. Asher got a few laughs out of Saiki
"Asher, your sister is really pretty!" Hairou basically shouted.
'Not as pretty as me! But, she isn't too bad..'
"Huh..? She isn't my sister, that's my mom. Dipshit..."
Their jaws almost dropped in shock.
"No way!!" Saiki's mother fawned. "You don't look a day over 20! I wish I looked as gorgeous as you!"
His mom laughed lightly, in a dismissive manner. "Don't be humble, you look pretty young, yourself. With a glance, I may have consider you to be your son's sister, too!"
The mothers laughed with each other and continued to throw compliments to each other, Saiki's father listening in jealousy.
"Anyways..." Asher stood from the table. His food was only halfway finished, but he's had enough. "It's gift sharing time! Or- I have gifts to give out. I'll be back, bitches."
He scampered off while his mother scolded him in english about cursing around the guests.
Asher walked back to the dining room with 4 boxes of all different sizes in his hands. He also noticed that everyone else pulled out the gifts that they would be handing out.
The brunette allowed everyone else to go first, passing their gifts around. That was a really bad choice. He felt a little embarrassed, seeing how most of the presents being passed look much more expensive than his own.
Nendou bought him a new chain.
Kaidou bought him "special banadages" that were much like his own.
Aren got him an mp3 player, which is very ancient, but appreciated.
And his mother had gave him a CD, which he was told to watch later.
Asher could tell Teruhashi was shocked that she didn't get many gifts, but bitches get placed on the naughty list. Right?
Then, it was Asher's turn to hand things out.
He started with Kaidou.
"Uhh, this is a necklace I found. I heard certain crystals have little powers to them, so maybe this can help out the "Jet-Black Wings"."
'It only costed 5 dollars, but with the right mindset it could be useful.'
"Wow, really!?" Kaidou gaped at the necklace before clumsily putting it around his neck. "Your efforts are appreciated."
'I can't believe I'm wearing something Asher got me-!! I mean, because it's for the Jet-Black Wings.'
'Right...'
He handed the next gift to Nendou. "I got you a book. I don't exactly know what you enjoy, but I thought you would appreciate it."
"Heey!! Thanks, buddy!"

The cover read 'How to come off as a smart person.'
"Here, Aren," Asher handed Kuboyasu (1) a glasses case, which held a pair of sunglasses. "They aren't designer or anything, but I thought you'd want to look cool when you're able to ride your own motorcycle."
"Sick, man. Thanks, Ash."
He held one last gift in front of him, sliding it over to his mother. "Mom."
"Oh.." she slowly took the wrapped box. "You didn't have to."
"No way would I get something for my friends, but not my mother." He shook his head. "Anyways, it took a lot of digging, but one of dad's relatives, his aunt I think, gave me a photo of him.."
His mother teared up at the image. It was a photo of the two of them, way back in high school.
"I can't believe someone took a picture of this.."
"Wow, Ms. Mortelli," Hairou started. "You and your husband look very good together."
'There's no way that photo wasn't photoshopped! No one can be that pretty, except me!'
His mother sniffled. "Yeah, he was so handsome... Asher takes on his looks and his personality.. it's almost like he isn't gone..."
Asher scratched the top of his head. "I dunno, mom..."
She laughed, placing the framed picture aside. "Thank you so much, bambino."
He grinned in response.
"Ahh, thank you all so much for letting us come over," Saiki's mother cooed. "Saiki normally has a hard time making friends, because of his psychic powers."
The table went quiet.
'Either his mom is like Kaidou, or she's bad at joking.'
After sitting in an awkward silence for over a minute, Asher's mom let out an awkward laugh.
"Haha... right. Well- Asher will be sure to keep your boy company. Isn't that right?"
Asher nodded happily.
'Just my luck.'
The crowd was starting to disperse now. People were leaving one by one, the Saiki's being the last to stay.
"Oh, Ku! You can't forget to give your gift to Asher, now!"
'HE GOT ME A GIFT!?'
"I didn't get him anything."
"Kusuo."
"Right." Saiki stood from the table. "Come here," he glanced to Asher before walking in the direction to the brunette's room.
Like a lost puppy, Asher followed close behind with a giddy grin.
When they got to the room, Saiki pulled out a bag from, seemingly, nowhere.
"They were having a sale for a really rare coffee jelly recipe out of town. I know you like coffee, so. Enjoy it."
'Ahh... he's so considerate..!'
'I only did it because my mom urged me to.'
"You went out of town just for coffee jelly?"
"Of course, I did."
Asher hummed happily and nodded his head. "Thank you so much, Saiki!" He placed the bag down on his dresser carefully. "Actually, I was wanting to give you my gift in private as well.."
'So he actually got me a gift. I'm actually a bit curious...'
"So, you remember what we talked about the other day at school, right? How I basically confessed to you and all that?"
"Yes."
Asher pulled open the dresser, pushing a few things from one side to another. "So, I was wondering... or, thinking- that's the same thing..— ah, what do you think about it?"
"I don't really care."
'This fucker-'
"I mean- you have to give a straight answer. Do you accept it, or do you not?"
Saiki shrugged his shoulders, despite Asher not being able to see him. "... I don't know."
"So.. that isn't a complete no. Does that mean your feelings are swaying for me!?"
"Definitely not."
Asher turned to look over his shoulder with a confused gaze. "Then why are you unsure of how to answer my question?"
Saiki was silent for a second before looking away with a click of his tongue. "What is the point of your questions?"
The other snickered, looking back to the dresser and pulling out a few things before shutting it. "So, since before, I didn't really confess, I want to do it now."
He walked over to Saiki, holding two boxes.
"How should I start..?" Asher pondered. "Uhh, well, I know it hasn't been long. Or, a few months is quite a while- but still. I've met a few attractive people throughout my life, but you're different. I mean, I don't like you just because of your looks, your personailty is also really fun and exciting and you always keep me on my toes with what you'll say next-
anyways. you're very irresistible, and I can understand why so many people like you. I like you. A lot. So, I made you this.." He handed the box to Saiki.
'Why does it smell so good..? I hate him so much.'
"They're coffee cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. Don't worry, they weren't in there for long! I just made them earlier today." He laughed nervously. "Oh, and here!" He, then, handed Saiki a small box.
"It's a ring. You don't have to wear it if it makes you embarrassed or uncomfortable, but I wanted a way to symbolize the relationship between us. I got one for myself, too!
It's like yin and yang; you're my light to my darkness, yeah?"
The two went silent. Saiki went silent in thought, Asher assumed.
Saiki just didn't know what to say.
"Uhm.." Asher shifted in his spot. "So, what're you thinking?"
'I want to die.'
Saiki shrugged. "I still don't know. I'm.. confused."
The brunette slowly. "Right... So that isn't a no, FUCK YEAH!" He turned around, doing a little happy dance to himself.
'So stupid..'
"Anyways-" He cleared his throat, turning back to face the other. "I'll give you time. No pressure. I won't do anything to.. make you hate me entirely?"
"Sure."
"Thank you for coming over, Saiki! You should go now.. make sure to text me when you get home. Please."
Saiki nodded and headed out of the room.
As soon as the door shut, Asher was giggling like a kid off of 5 bags of skittles. He leaped onto his bed, rolling around with a wide grin.
'I didn't get rejected... Saiki kinda likes me..!'
Asher's never felt so passionate for his lover before. Yes, he cared for everyone he has dated, but this was different. Saiki was different. He was the one.
"I see things went well in here."
Asher sat up on bed, surprised from the sudden voice. "Mom.."
"So, are you two a thing now? I can't believe you like kids like him-! I thought you were into boobs, into long haired females-"
"Mooomm.." he rolled his eyes. "It isn't his looks. The way he words things just makes me shutter with excitement-"
"Asher. I don't need to hear about your sexual preferences," his mother sighed.
"What? That's not what I meant!" He shouted. "I mean, he says things so confidently, and with a tone of sass.. his retorts are so funny. He isn't afraid to say what he wants- I like that about him."
His mother laughed, clapping her hands together. "Ahh, my son is in love! That's so amazing... I wish your dad was here to see you now. I'm so proud of you.."
"Well, I'm sure he's watching us from wherever he is. Him and my baby sister."
She hummed lightly. "Yeah..." he gave him a tight side hug. "Anyways, I'm gonna finish up downstairs. The Saiki's helped me clean up while the top of you were busy up here."
Asher blushed lightly. "Yeah.. sorry.."
"You're good," she chuckled. "Love you, you better go to bed. I want you to have a good sleep schedule."
"Mhm... g'night." He watched her walk out of the room before snatching his phone from the bed.
We all know what he's planning on doing.

John then reincarnates with his AI in a new world where a System influences the interaction between Magic and Matter. With seemingly limitless potential and a game-like system influencing the world, the hero sets on his journey. --AUTHOR NOTE, PLEASE READ-- I will state here my promises to you, potential reader: 1. No harem! I don't trust myself to make a harem feel natural or healthy, I never met any person who has a personality that can adapt and live in a harem for reasons that are not monetary, so I can't draw inspiration from real life. Sorry!; 2. The enemies will not be bland and illogically mean. Some may feel like that at first, but I will take great care in fleshing them out, trust me. You may end up hating some, but you won't be able to deny that they had their reasons for what they did; 3. I am using a paid (and expensive) automated editor tool, and I take longer to write because I take my time in editing the stuff. I am aiming to improve and I will not shy away from constructive criticism, nor take offense for no reason; 4. Characters will die and will suffer, some will get over the tragedies and improve, others will not be as resilient. 5. This novel has a lot of ground to cover, it is neither a short story, a manual on crafting, or the script of some action scene. There will be both time skips and oversimplifications of some actions for the sake of moving the story forward. Time skips will be more prominent in the first 30 chapters. I will describe crafting processes and fights with more detail if they are essential for the chapter; 6. If I took my time describing something, it's because it is important. I hate novels that waste time describing useless stuff. If you skim over something, the chances are that something in the future will not make sense. I am an adept of "Chekhov's gun" principle; 7. I already have 31k words on my auxiliary documents, I have a plan for the story, and I will not be making changes even if someone ends up noticing some foreshadowing and figures out what will happen. The story comes first. 8. I have a wife, a job that demands 9h every day and courses related to my job (lawyer) three days of the week, it's unlikely that I will be able to do mass releases at all. I will have a healthy amount of chapters to be able to post at least 1 chapter every day continually. Don't worry. 9. I will read all the comments. I will listen to all you have to say and will try my best to accommodate demands as long as they do not hamper the path I prepared. 10. There is an arc that spans the entire novel. Each volume will be an arc in itself while progressing a little bit of the main arc. Every arc will have one or more main antagonists. I think that's it! Thank you for reading it all. Have an awesome time reading my first novel!!

Macabre Mim
*Note: This story is on hiatus. I intend to pick it up again, but the mood of my life has shifted for the time being and I'm going to be working on a side project for a bit.* What would you give to live the life of your dreams? What kind of deal would you make? And when you were there, forced to stare your dreams in the eye and live them every day, how long would it be... before they broke you? Author's note: This is my first excursion outside the realm of villain fan fiction and I welcome feedback. The thing I've loved most about RRL so far is the potential for writing to be an interactive experience with excited readers. That said, also, the primary genre this is intended for is the blossoming realm of LitRPG. Namely, a slice of life tale in the manner of Grimgar or Re:Zero. So, likewise, I don't expect there will ever be a clear beginning-middle-and-end type of pattern to this story. It will likewise always be a bit more of a reactionary, exploratory novel into realms unknown - much like the 1800 travel-novel theme used by Jules Verne. Or, at least, that is my ambition.

And that's not to say Hickory is bad, not all the time, not ever on purpose - just there are things a man has to - That drinking and fighting ain't wrong just as long as the chores are done proper first, that those parts of life that make it worth living ain't no sin, that loving a lady is proper and Hickory just has so much love to give! That certainly Hickory would notice, naturally - that she's already spoken for, perhaps taken? That if he wants to move up the ranks of his family, to be more than a Covanger, to become the Covanger? He's going to need a woman in the Kitchen as well - he's going to need May. And if that seems a bit old fashioned? A bit too much like the Wild West? Well the West is starting to get wild again now that everyone starts to Drink. A different take on LitRPG where answers aren't given - they must be earned, discovered and fought for, one at a time. An orator style, a long read, filled with magic buildings, crafting, alchemy, but most of all - This is a story about the human spirit. About understanding what defines a person, their morals, their beliefs, and also faith when everything they understand becomes challenged - changed. So do they. People can change. They will. Just not always for the better, not always - sometimes. Sometimes that's enough. Sometimes that's even everything.
