《The March of the Black Queen (book III)》51.) Wear Me Like A Locket Around Your Throat

As my eyes quickly take in the words; my heart absorbs the impact. Oh, what a fucking idiot I've been to rush into this thinking I was the only man she was messing around with. I knew we weren't nearly anything exclusive, but my god- she could have at least told me instead of this...

My eyes scan the words again, trying to convince myself it's all a lie.

I can hardly tear my eyes away from the video of the two of them, strolling down the street before he lifts her up, placing her over his shoulder as they run away from the herd of paparazzi. What a moron— she's pregnant. Isn't that a bad thing to do? Shaking the baby all around liken that. Squishing the poor little thing. Ha! He'll be an excellent father— note the sarcasm.

My heart literally could plummet into my stomach and flush out of me at this point— My mind tries to conceal the pain even from myself with snide remarks but I there's no denying she's what I want. Even more so now than ever....I just...can't think about her with him...

"And, just WHAT is she thinking?!," Rich continues pacing around in the same spot since he first started his rant. "I never liked him! Nobody did! We fucking warned her about him from the very start—I'm going to fucking kill him!"

He was enthralled at the thought of his sister secretly still seeing the guy. I guess they have a history. "Oh and if course he has to use my Dad's face for a fucking story!! That's what everybody does! Why not add another scrounging imbecile to the list!," Hands flippantly flying around his head before he smashes them down onto the table, venomous licks of cussing spewing from his rapid tongue.

I keep trying to keep up with his words, but it seems the more upset he gets, the thicker and less decipherable his accent becomes. "This is just the type of stunt she would pull on my wedding day! The one day that's supposed to be about me! As if last night wasn't already enough!"

"Hey, woah, woah," I stood up, cautiously holding my hands out as I walk closer to him as his temper turns on Charlie, too. I gesture toward the knot he's tangled on his tie, attempting to cool him down as I fix it for him.

"This isn't Charlie's fault. I'm sure, she didn't know he'd go public with all of this..." I fight against the dry lump in my throat, busying my hands by smoothing out his collar and the shoulders of his jacket as he turns to look at himself in the mirror.

"Oh, she knew," he quips back, using a fine tooth comb to quaff the top of his hair as he persists. "My sister just has to be the center of attention," he picks up his cellphone again, scrolling through the images of the two of them in the online article.

I watch as his body becomes tense, he takes deep breathes, letting the exhale linger as he tries to calm himself down. I try to think of a way to deescalate the situation, but to be completely honest, I'm just as shocked as he is. I mean, I thought the girl was taking a liking to me, little did I know she was in a turnabout relationship with a piece of shit- I mean, that guy. I jump at the loud shouting breaking my thoughts as the door to the grooms room opens.

"I won't fucking have it! I will hold onto the grudge until I fucking well die, I'm sure of it! No daughter of mine— no grandchild of mine, will have anything to do with Simon Ferocious."

Freddie enters the bachelor suit, the rest of Queen and their company shuffling in behind him. They seem to be trying to hush him as his voice booms against the acoustics of the Catholic Church.

"Imagine the fucking scandal to be announced now," He seems unable to stop his quick movements around the room, tossing a pile of things from his hands and into the table. "On their wedding day of all days. I'll tell you one thing! That baby will be a Mercury or so help me, I'll—,"

"Freddie, listen to yourself-," John Deacon tries to interject only to be met by a terrifying glare. I gulp, trying to make myself as invisible as possible. John's face is full of worry as he looks between the two Mercury men, both of whom may as well have steam streaming out of their ears.

"Baby Ferocious! Oh, no, wait— Freddie Ferocious! That's what it says right here!," Freddie pushes play on the video that goes along with the article. I gnaw my jaw as the reporters voice continues in the background. "Can you believe it! Ha! She will not use my name alongside that twat's name, I tell ya!"

"For fucks sake! We're in a church!"

"No, you're right! He's right! What kind of ridiculous shit does Charlie think she's doing?," Richie stands beside his Dad, the two hot-heads are mirror images of each other: arms tightly fixed across their chests, right toes defensively pointed forward in a stance that suggests they're ready to pounce on anyone who contradicts them. All the while their mouths fly off the handle.

"Let him come here," Freddie proclaims, jutting his chin in the air. "Let him crash this wedding, I dare the thought," Freddie shakes his head, patting his pockets impatiently as he takes a cigarette out of his pack. "Phoebe," he looks about the room, until the large man beside him taps his shoulder. "Ashtray, hmm?," he asks with a nod of his head.

"Just look at it this way. Both your children are settled down and happy? Is that not what you w— Nevermind," Roger tries to bring light to the conversation only to have a double whiplashing effect of Freddie and Richie grimacing at him.

"Pffft. He wouldn't fucking dare come here that's all I know—,"

"Richie! Church...," Deacon groans at having to point out the obvious, exasperated with their bickering.

Cherie:

I haven't felt this excited in forever! The nerves tangling my stomach make it feel like this could be my own wedding day all over again. The fact that Freddie and I haven't spoken since the whole fucking "big reveal" last night stings when I picture our own wedding day. Whatever, I'll have to push that out of the way today!

I sit across from Laura, lightly fixing her make up as Rose adjusts the flowing veil on top of her head. I can't help the emotions that well up inside. We've watched Laura and Richie grow up together, always side-by-side. Who would have known this day would come- and so soon, it seems!

We've finally decided to move in and I can't wait to start this new chapter of our lives! Since that terrible last day under Jimmys hateful power, we've had a lot of changes— good and bad.

Turns out Freddie's big vow renewal gift was a home, sitting on a lake in none other than Switzerland of all places! I swear I love it here!

I don't know what it is, but somehow I feel myself healing. I feel my mind mending and myself becoming much healthier all around. It's like heaven on earth.

"Do you really like it, Angel? I wasn't sure...going ahead and buying it without you...," His arms wrap around my waist from behind as he hugs me, kissing my temple as I stare out at the serene view of our new yard.

"Of course, I love it!," I squeal, holding his big strong arms, leaning my head back against his chest. His hand lifts my chin, bending my head back further for a quick, suave kiss.

I sigh, completely content in my heart. I know this will be just the fresh start we've been planning and hoping for. I turn out of his arms, knowing we've guests to attend to.

"Rosie here, was a great help," Freddie nods in her direction as I swiftly move to assist Rose with the food containers she's balancing in her arms. "She said you'd love this place the best, but I wasn't too sure. I'm glad I listened," he winks.

"I'm just sad you all will be so far away!," Rose whines, pouting her lip like a child.

"You can come and stay whenever you'd like— you know that!," I reply as the two of us carry our handfuls outside.

Roger and Brian are at the grill bickering back and forth about when to turn the sausage links. Or something like that.

"Now look what you've done, you ninny!"

"What I've done? You're the one with the tongs!," Brian retorts with a huff, crossing his arms as he rolls his eyes.

"Oh, now, boys— behave," Anita chimes in. Her and Ronnie are both relaxing at the patio table. Their legs resting on the empty chairs as they sit, soaking up the sun, sipping wine from red solo cups.

"Richie!," Deacy shouts as he walks closer to the field where the children play. "You stop that right now, you hear?," he continues to reprimand my son.

"Come on, Deacy," I call out to him as he stands shaking his head with his hands on his hips. His attention never leaving the sight of Richie and Laura wrestling in the grass.

"It really wouldn't be so bad," I smirk at him, trying to ruffle his feathers a bit as he begins to walk closer to us. He mostly ignores me, rolling his eyes as we all sit back and watch the children play at our new house.

Putting my sunglasses on, Rose pours us each a cup of slushy wine from the pitcher on the center of the table. I keep a secret eye on the kids, not wanting them to wade too deep into the water.

My Richie really does has a crush on Laura. He's really the sweetest little boy ever, I don't see what Deacy is so grumpy about.

"It's adorable!," Anita sings, fully feeling the affects of the alcohol, she's too much to handle sometimes, but in a good way.

"Look at the way they giggle together. They're the best of friends," Ronnie gushes, a huge smile spreading on her face as all of us watch Richie and Laura the waters edge.

They're playing an innocent game, kicking water at each other and shrieking like mad at when one of them gets wet. Richie gives up his attempts at trying to get Laura back for splashing his clothes. He bends down, reaching his arms below the water only to quickly lift them back up. The water splashing the both of them in the process.

"My dress, Richard!," Laura complains, whining at she begins to ring out the hem of her long, flowing dress.

"Uhhh," Richie's gasp is so loud before he slaps his hand over his mouth. "I so sorry, Angel! No— Laura, no! I say sorry! I didn't mean to!"

His screams are so high-pitched you'd think it was Laura shouting. "Stop it! Haha! You can't catch me!," Richie's confidence boosts as the two of them run around in the water, continuing to splash each other until Laura catches hold of the back of Richie's shirt.

"Whatdya have to say now?," I nod at Deacy as all of us have started to pay attention to the commotion our little ones are causing. "Shall I scold Laura like you did to my son?," Freddie winks at me as the two of us tag team the Deacons.

"She isn't hurting him," Ronnie giggles, tilting her cup back just to bring it down just as quickly. "Awww, we're all out!," She whines.

"Don't sweat it, sugar. Have some of mine!," Anita passes her cup to Ronnie as she gets up to go into the house. "I'll go grab the back up wine?"

"Anita for the win!," Rose calls out to her.

Anita pokes her head back outside, flinging her arm and leg in the air as she holds her balance on the patio door. "Anita for the wine!," she sings, making us all giggle back at her.

"Now look at that! He's showing no mercy, Freddie," Deacy tisks as the guys start laying the grilled food on the table. "Go and collect him, they're catch colds."

"They're children!," Freddie cries. "They catch colds and cooties and all that jazz anyway!"

Richie's in the process of holding Laura's head under the water. He lets her up for air and all of that, he's not a cruel child! It's cute really— they're only playing.

"Richie!!!!," Charlie suddenly stops playing the game of football with the other children, stomps over toward the water with her hands on her hips, shouting for her brother.

"Richie, stop that! You being ridincyouluz!," She points her fingers at him, gasping and hoping back as the bottom of her sun dress brushes the edge of the water. "You better stop now, or I gonna tell Mummy!"

She wags her finger at the two of them, like the little boss she is. "Thatta girl, Charlie," Deacy mumbles, snickering as he serve some plates of food.

"Richie and Laura sitting in a twee!," Now the rest of the kids have joined her, even little Emmy claps her hands to sing along.

"K-I-s-N-G,"

"No I not! We not!," Richie becomes frantic as his Laura begins to cry. He's trying to soothe her as he lifts her out of the water.

"First comes love! Then comes marriage! Then comes—,"

"LIAR!!!," Richie hollers, as Laura let's go of his hand as soon as her feet touch dry land. She runs into Deacy's arms, who was already starting to walk over towards them.

The children's laughter is hilarious! We all try to stop our chuckling as Richie and Laura come sit at the table with us. Richie crawls into my lap, covering his face with his hands.

"Come on, Princess. Mummy will help you change into dry clothes," Deacy glares are Freddie as Ronnie rushes inside with a wailing Laura.

"What?," Freddie asks, confused by Deacys angry stare.

"If it's not one Mercury, it's the other, or its you"

"Calm down, darling. Let them horse around. It's only good fun," Freddie replies, completely unbothered. I don't even pay attention to the rest of their conversation when I start to her tiny sniffles coming from my little prince.

"Why are you crying, darling? You can't let Charlie get to you. You know she's just making fun," I try as I hug him close to me.

"But she aw-ways makes fun when I with Laura!," His big, watery eyes look up up at me, as he sinks his teeth into his bottom lip.

I brush his chin, silently urging him to stop and he does for the moment. "Mummy, Laura doesn't like when Charlie makes fun. Charlie is so mean! Laura is my bestest fwend," he sniffles again, wiping his nose on my blouse.

"Oh, don't worry about it, my boy," Freddie comes over to sit in the seat next to me, shaking the dangling curls that have started to grow since Richie's hair is getting pretty long again. "You're very kind and sweet. Laura knows it's not your fault." He says, brushing Richie's hair back, giving his forehead a tender kiss.

"Papi— I a man now! No kisses!," Richie quickly says as his eyes widen, he jumps out of my lap as soon as Laura comes out of the house again. Hurrying to straighten out the wrinkles on his wet clothes, he holds his hands together staring at his feet as he shuffles over to Ronnie and Laura.

"Fine," Deacy grumbles, placing the glass rim of his beer to his lips. "They're cute...for now," he comments, a little smirk on the side of his lips.

"Of course they are. He's my son. And besides, Laura's lucky to have Ronnie's looks!," Freddie cackles as we continue to watch the sweet exchange between Richie and Laura. They're not too far away this time, I want to squeal at every adorable word that comes out of my baby's mouth. That little loverboy.

"I really sorry, Laura...," Richie kicks his feet against the floor, standing a few good paces away from her. "I tell Charlie to stop making fun. I go tell her right now!,"

My little man puffs his chest out, turning to stomp his way back to the other children when Laura catches his arm and I, apparently being the only one still paying them attention, catch the blushing smile on Richie's face before he turns back around to face her.

"No, Richie. No fighting," her sweet little voice reminds him and he nods. "You still be my angel, please? We play upstairs in my room!," his voice heightens in excitement only to be defeated by the other watchful eye I was unaware of.

"No playing inside. It's time to eat. Come along now Laura grab a seat," Deacy says.

They both listen as Roger hollers for the rest of our clan to come grab some grub. Richie hurries into my lap again, running away from Laura as she follows him. Just as my little prince looks about to cry again, she comes walking over to whisper to him. "I still be the angel and you still be the knight,"

I have to stop myself from commenting I want to squeeze them both so badly!! My mouth falls open in adornment and I look up to see Freddie smiling at me, blowing me a kiss.

"Forget the wine! There's a whole fridge full of champagne in there!," Anita excitedly glides over to us, replacing our wine cups with new ones for the champagne.

"Stay out of my Moet, darling if you know what's good for you," Freddie jokingly scolds her.

"I can't hear you Frederick, alls I hear is "Mi Casca, su cascara'. Or do you not remember greeting us like that?,"

"Surely, you're mistaken," We laughs along with him as Anita becomes more and more confused.

"What? What'd I say it wrong? Mi casia, tu casca.," Anita tries and fails again, her lose tipsy tongue doing her no justice.

"Pipe down, love. You haven't got it in you," Brian chuckles, ushering a blabbering Anita to her seat.

"You— no, Me cas sa sa, you casana— oh, whatever! Bugger off, the lot of you!,"

"You look beautiful, baby," Ronnie croons, handkerchief dabbing the corners of her eyes.

"Thanks, Mum," Laura's radiant glow shines through her eyes as she giggles at the compliment. Her pure white dress has capped lace sleeves, silk white covering her bodice, cinching at the waist and flowing behind her. "No crying! You're going to make me cry!," Ronnie begins to place the lace, white veil onto Laura's hair, framing the fabric around Laura's face perfectly.

"And then we'll all cry!," Anita dramatically sniffles, pinching Laura's cheek with a wink.

"Yeah and then you'll all ruin hours of my work with mascara streaming down your faces- nope! I-I don't t-think so!," I jokingly scold them, but my own voice waivers. Our babies are all grown up now.

"Oh!," Charlie gasps, as she comes out of the restroom, one hand clutching her stomach as the other fans her face. "I almost forgot! Time for presents"

"Presents? Aw, you didn't have to"

"Of course, we did!," Lily hops off of the couch, finally looking excited to be here. "Open this one first!"

Quickly packing my makeup kit away, we all sit around the blushing bride as excitedly tears through the wrapping paper of a small square gift. "Oh my god, Lily!!," Laura looks like she's about to cry as she brings lily in for a hug. "It's perfect! Thank you!"

"No problem, sis," Lily replies, a tinge of shyness quieting her voice as Laura turns the jewelry box around to show the matching necklaces with circle pendants. "They say sisters forever, because you're a Mercury now and forever," Lily explains as the three of them dawn the gold necklaces at the same time.
