《Butterfly Hearts ✔》epilogue

The wind blew the curtains in her face, almost knocking down the wine glass in her hand. She pushed her way to the balcony. Paris wasn't suppose to be so windy.

It was 12 or 1 am, she had no clue. All Sona knew was that her body was aching after today's work, she had to catch her flight back tomorrow but sleep was still miles away from her mind.

She took a deep breath of the cold air, her naked arms shivering. The small lights glowing lightened up the city, her eyes fixated on the Eiffel Tower. No wonder this hotel room was expensive than it was suppose to be. . . she had the perfect view of the place where people found love.

Drunken amidst her own thoughts, the ringing of the phone startled her. Bhawre ki gunjan hai mera dil. . . It wasn't a business call, so it could only be someone from home.

She popped in her earpods, accepting the call and finding her place back to the open balcony. It didn't take another second for Tarni's voice to come blaring in.

"Sona? Sona? Can you hear me?"

Her lips titled up, amusement lacing her voice. "I could hear you since the time you were yelling at your dearest husband for not folding his socks the right way out."

"And you kept quiet since then?" she shrieked. "I thought the call wasn't connecting!"

"I was wearing my earpods," she feigned guiltiness.

"Shut up! How is Paris? Did you see the Eiffel Tower?"

"I am looking at it now," she mused, taking another sip of her wine. "How are you doing? Are you on your 3rd baby?"

"2nd! It's my 2nd!" she chided and Sona laughed. "It's not funny! I don't understand where the joke it? Can you see it? I can't!"

"Ah, being on your 2nd baby has made you blind it seems," she tantalized.

"Sona!" Tarni was very much riled up. "You know what? It is my 3rd child because you were my first and Daksh is my second. You aren't even a bit different from him, always making me angry!"

"I didn't know you didn't want the chocolates I was going to bring!" Sona gasped, clearly threatening her under her sweet words.

"Sona, Sona, Sona," her best friend on the other end sighed, almost in dejection. "You win, Sona. But that is not why I called you."

"What's up?" she gulped down her whole glass in a go.

"Did you hear about Vikrant?" Tarni's voice was like a buzzing bee's, ready to collect and spread gossip. "He's getting married next month! And he invited me!"

"You have one and a half kids," she dryly said. "Oh, and a husband. What are you on about?"

"I know, I know. It's just weird," she confessed. "I don't feel sad or anything obviously. I love my life right now but he was like my first love, no?"

"I thought your first love was that guy from 9th grade—"

"No! It was just a crush!" she cut her off. "Anyways, it's weird. I feel weird. Like, almost embarrassed because I used to like him before and now here we are married to different people."

Sona raised her eyebrows. "Uhuh. I guess it is. After all no one forgets their first love, no?"

There was an uncomfortable silence on Tarni's end, it made Sona think that their call was maybe disconnected but it wasn't. They had been talking for 10 minutes now.

"Sona, you are making this weird—"

"Tarni, stop thinking shit—"

They both spoke at the same time and stopped at the same time. Sona rubbed her eyebrows, huffing. "You can move on from Vikrant, but I can't move on from Abhay?"

"I didn't think we could say his name," she spoke in a small voice.

Sona laughed, "What the fuck? Abhay is your brother, Tarni."

"Now that you talk about this I remember. I saw him with Dev last week! They came home and brought gifts for Daksh. I think they are back together. No one forgets their first love, huh?"

Sona smiled, her eyes looking over the ground that was miles below. "Even if they are dead?"

Tarni thought for a second. "Especially if they are dead."

"So. . ." she breathed. "How long are you due?"

"Oh, I have a long way, 6 months to go."

"Hopefully I will be there this time," she chuckled. "Or maybe I should take a leave in advance."

"You better!" she snorted. "You saw Daksh after 10 days he was born! You and your stupid business trips!"

"I specialize in international business, Tarni," Sona said, reminding her of her work because she seemed to have forgotten. "Of course I am not in India most of the time."

"You've travelled half the world, Sona," Tarni spoke prudently. "And you still haven't found the one?"

She laughed again. "This again? Can you not shut up?"

"Well you are going to turn 31!" she protested. "Your mom's worried, your dad is not I guess? But I am also worried!"

Sona didn't answer so she continued. "Have you been in touch with Aksith?"

She hummed, "Not really? Why?"

"Was just asking," Tarni grunted. "When was the last time you talked?"

She clicked her tongue and tsked. "You were the one who said that people who's first love have died, they don't forget them easily and now you are still thinking of setting me up with Aksith?"

"You found someone, didn't you?" Tarni bursted out, overflowing with excitement. "That's why you are dodging all my matchmaking questions! Most of the time you just hear them from one ear and throw it off the next! Tell me, who is it?"

Sona smiled, her finger on her lips. She couldn't help laughing at her excitement on mere assumptions. "You wrote a story and finished it also, who said anything about finding someone?"

"Sona, don't play games with me right now!"

A mysterious smile made it's way to her face. "Third time's a charm, no?"

Tarni was screaming over the phone, yelling profanes and whatnot in utter excitement. But Sona dismissed her when she heard the doorbell ring. A charming smile made up to her face as she walked back into her hotel room.

"Sorry, Tarni, I have to go!"
