《Lover's Day: Izuku Midoriya x Reader x Bakugou》Chapter 5: Heart of Gold

Two more train stops and you had finally arrived. The festival was full of art and fun little souvenirs. You strolled around, not looking for anything in particular, Midoriya trailing behind you through the walkway like a loyal sidekick. "See anything you like, Izuku?" You asked him, subtly giving him permission to leave your side if he wanted. "Not yet." He said. Out of the corner of your eye, you spotted a sparkle of light reflecting from a little glass display of jewelry.
"Wow! These are so pretty!" You squealed girlishly. You had your eye on a particular pair of earrings. Tiny pink sheets of glass were arranged into a small exquisite flower, miniature diamonds in the center. You poked them with your finger, watching the light scatter as they dangled back and forth. 'These would be perfect to wear on Lovers Day.'
"Yeah, they would." Midoriya agreed. Apparently you had spoken that thought aloud. You made a face remembering that you hadn't brought enough money. You didn't want your wallet distorting how amazing your butt looked in this skirt. 'Oh well.' You turned to find the greatest part of any festival shop: the funny hat rack. You walked over, placed a dignified squid atop your head, and grabbed a Fedora for Izuku. "Mhmmm. Did someone order a sushi?" You asked, vocally simulating a snooty waiter. He looked over his shoulder and giggled at the sight of you, his grin distorting the freckles on his cheeks. You placed the Fedora lightly on top of his curls and replied, "Look! Now it's a Fedoriya!" To your delight, he burst into a roar of laughter at your terrible pun. It was very pleasing to your ears. High pitched, yet somehow still musical. Actually, with his grey school uniform to match, the hat complimented him well. In another life, he could definitely pull it off... assuming in that life he had a confident sense of swag and style.
You gestured him over to the rack where a diverting Viking helmet was just waiting for you.
"How does this one look?" Izuku asked you, now garnished by a humorously oversized top hat. You snickered before answering, "You look positively Midorable." He clutched his sides, exploding with laughter once more.
"Two in a row. I'm on fire today." You said, proud of your horrendously dweebish witticism. 'Time to quit while you're ahead.' You turned by the edge of the shelf, about to make your way around the corner.
"You're so clever, F/N!" Midoriya exclaimed in admiration. "You're so confident and you always know exactly what to say. I wish I could be more like you."
You loved that he was never afraid to admit his appreciation of others. And his compliments were never false either. He genuinely held the people around him in that level of esteem. He was consistently able to make you feel good about yourself. It was easy to see why everyone in your class trusted him. But you felt that he was the one who truly deserved the compliments. "Don't be ridiculous, Izuku." You replied. "You're the one who's super thoughtful and nice. That's why everyone likes you. I wish I could be more like you." He gifted you a grateful smile.

"Lets go." You said. "I think the ice cream shop is going to close soon."
He hesitated. "Uh... I'll be right there." You figured he wanted to get something. "Ok. What flavor ice cream do you want?" You asked loudly from a nearby bench. "Mint chip!" He called back to you cheerfully. You held a thumbs up to let him know you heard him, turning on your heels to run to the ice cream kiosk. The sun was beginning to set over the sea. Pink and orange light sparkled off the ocean water, blending its blue deepness with the haze of purple clouds above.
On your walk back, he caught your eye, running to meet you half-way with his hands in his pockets. You handed him the mint chip cone, noticing how the green and brown color scheme of the ice cream matched that of his hair. It was almost serene.
"Thanks!" He said, eyeing the ice cream eagerly. "Let me pay you back." He pulled his All Might wallet out of his back pocket. It was exactly the wallet you expected him to have but it still made you smirk. "Don't worry about it." You told him. "It's on me."
"Are you sure?"
"I insist." You said with a conformational nod.
"Thanks, F/N! Do you uh... want to go for a walk on the beach?" He asked.
"Sure." You said, taking a casually blasé stroll towards the water. "Bye, Izuku." You said, giving a fake wave goodbye. "Wait what?!" You heard him say behind you. You glanced back at his very flummoxed form, then darted back to him with a smile. "I'm just kidding!" You giggled, bumping his shoulder with yours. "Of course I'll walk with you." He let out a tiny laugh or relief. "Oh. You scared me for a second."
"Sorry." You said, hooking his arm and pulling him along with you this time. "Its just fun to tease you sometimes." You admitted.
"Yeah. A lot of people think that." He disclosed quietly.
"Really? Like who?"
"Well... Pretty much everyone at my old school used to make fun of me. Kacchan especially."
"Why on earth would anyone make fun of you?!" You squawked in disbelief. There was literally no conceivable reason to pick on someone so pleasant.
"Because up until recently I was quirkless."
"That doesn't seem like a good enough reason to me. That's who heroes most need to protect."
"Mm." He nodded, absentmindedly staring at the sand.
"I didn't mean to make you sad." You squeaked, noticing his eyebrows knit together in what you thought was frustration at a bad memory.
"Oh no! I'm not sad." He said. After reading your unconvinced expression, he added, "Really!"
You walked down the shoreline, chatting about everything and nothing, enjoying the salty mist on your face. You had originally thought Midoriya to be shy and quiet, but in reality, once he found a topic that he was passionate about, he would never shut up about it. But that was just fine with you since you shared similar interests.
After a while, you mutually decided to find a resting spot. You sat atop a small brick wall overlooking the sunset. The whole landscape was bathed in a yellow glow, the sun peering half-way over the water. The temperature was dropping rapidly now. A cool ocean breeze raised goose bumps on your arms and legs. You definitely regretted wearing short sleeves and a tiny skirt now... no matter how good you looked in them. A shudder coursed through your body, causing you to take a sharp inhale. "Are you okay?" Midoriya asked immediately. 'He's always so attentive.'

"Yeah." You answered, wrapping your hands around your body to keep warm. "It was stupid of me not to bring a jacket." His brows furrowed. You shrugged, your gaze returning to the tranquil waves crashing on the sand.
You suddenly felt something on your shoulders. You looked up to find Midoriya draping his uniform jacket around you.
"Mmm." You let out a low hum, curling yourself up. The coat was perfectly toasty from his body heat. 'He must run at a high temperature.'
"Thank you, Izuku. You're so sweet." You told him. "Wait! Aren't you gonna be cold?" You wondered, concerned for his comfort.
"Oh, I'm fine!" He said, his irises twinkling in the sunlight. "I'm actually really warm." You believed him based on how sweltering his coat was. You stuck your frigid hands into the pockets and felt something. "What's this?" You asked, pulling the commodity out to examine it. A small item was wrapped in a receipt.
"Wait!" Midoriya objected in a panic. He could have snatched it from you before it was revealed, but his docile nature was too yielding for such actions. In your hands perched the perfect earrings from the gift shop. Your lips parted in awe.
"They were supposed to be a surprise." Midoriya sulked, his shoulders hunched in a sullen disappointment.
"Well I'm very surprised if it makes you feel any better." You beamed. "I love them. Thank you." You raved. 'He is so sweet. If he's competing, Midoriya's going to win Lovers day by a landslide.' You felt a swell of affection rise in your chest.
"Your welcome." He said. You gazed at him, noticing how his body seemed to be glowing in the light. It was very suitable. It seemed only right that he should look this radiant, being the shooting star that he was. Your staring must have made him feel sheepish, for he tilted his chin down in an overly modest manner; kind of like a turtle pulling it's head into its shell.
"Look, Izuku." You grabbed his hand, pointing down to it. "This light makes your skin look really gold."
"Heh. Yeah. It does." He agreed, delicately examining your touching hands.
"It's perfect!" You gushed, looking back into his sea-green eyes that were now reflecting golden shimmers. "Now the color of your skin matches the color of your heart!"
He blinked once at you before breaking out in an uncontrollable titter. He blushed, covering his face in a violently bashful gesture. "What a nice thing to say!" He squeaked between giggles.
While he was lost for a moment in his state of flattered embarrassment, you put in the earrings. You tried not to cringe at how dreadfully cheesy that line just was, but at least it elicited the kind of response you desired. You couldn't lie to yourself. It was a small sadistic pleasure to make his brain malfunction like that. One romantic comment was enough to send him spiraling into a babbling puddle of goo.
"By the way, Izuku," You patiently waited for him to snap out of it. He shut up, peeking through his fingers at you. "I never asked. If someone picked you for Lovers Day, what would you want them to give you?" That came out a little more overt than you had originally intended, but you couldn't figure out a more discrete way to ask. You briefly related to Iida in his moment of immodest questioning earlier.
"Oh!" He seemed surprised that you would ask him such a thing. "Well nothing in particular I guess." He said, giving you the almost verbatim ambiguous answer you gave Iida this morning. You sighed in exhaustion.
'Wow. This is a lot more frustrating coming from the other end.' You thought. But before you could pry, he continued.
"I don't need any presents or anything..." He paused, mentally debating whether or not he would continue. "But..." He clasped his hands together. "I always just wanted a girl to hold my hand at school. Like she wouldn't be ashamed to be seen with me..."
His innocence and self-doubt struck you as terribly endearing. 'How pure-hearted!' You screamed internally. 'Who could possibly be ashamed of spending time with someone like him?!' You were appalled at the notion but somehow still felt inexplicably warm inside. He must have mistaken your peculiar expression for judgment and looked away in silence.
"Anyone who would be ashamed of being with you is an idiot." That was the only logical response to put his insecurity to rest. But you secretly made a mental note of his answer for later. 'If he's competing, that is... But he's not because this isn't a date or anything...'
He seemed content with your feedback and calmly looked up at the twinkling stars. You leaned back, placing the weight on your palms and watched the night sky with him. The moon cast a bluish brilliance on the blackness. The starlight reflected off his-
"Oh my God, Izuku, what time is it?!" How long had you been talking? When did it get this late?
"Gah! I promised mom I'd be home before dark!" He panicked, realizing he'd made the same mistake of losing track of the time.
"Me too!" You shrieked. Both of you proceeded to call your families to let them know you were safe along with your approximate time of arrival. Together you boarded the train home, laughing at your potential punishments for breaking curfew. Since the cab was nearly empty, there were plenty of seats. Tiredness hit you. You sat down hard, slumping down in the seat. Midoriya yawned loudly beside you for emphasis.
"My thoughts exactly." You said with a drowsy chuckle. Without thinking you let your head drop onto his shoulder. 'I'm sure he won't mind.'

Life of a Core
After a disembodied voice had told him he was what amounted to an exceptionally talented rock, it had been hard to not let it go to his non-existent head. Until, random chance had decided to give him a square kick in the minerals. Which had in turn forced him to fend for himself in an unknown land, all while he attempted to make sense of his place in the world. Truthfully though, all he had really wanted to do from the start had been to bury himself a hundred feet below the ground and be left to his own devices. Yet, for one reason or another, nobody ever seemed willing to leave the dungeon-building core alone long enough to actually make one. Each chapter will average around two to three thousand words, the release schedule is still a WIP but you should expect the first six chapters to be released over the next six days. This is planned out as a dungeon building fiction, but don't expect it right off the bat! The story is a depiction of the everyday adventures (alongside an overarching plot) of what I imagine a dungeon core would experience when thrust into a random environment where everything and everyone tried to covet or eat him. I also really enjoy reading the comments and reviews people leave and would love to get some reader involvement with the story itself, likely through polls at the end of each chapter. I hope you enjoy my story! (If you feel like some of the characters seem familiar, you may have read some older work I wrote a while back under a different account. If you happen to be one of my old readers and recognize the similarities, I'm happy to have you back!)

What could possibly go wrong with our heroine? This novel is a sort of, legacy. I wanted to at least put it out there before I passed away due to a combination of financial difficulty, homelessness, job loss, and my last interview taking up the last of my savings (which I did not get the job). If by some miracle, and I get a job that can give me a pay advance by next week (4/8) and I survive this turbulent time, I will edit this - and the formating of the book).
