《Relief》12- Caught In the Rain

"Okay, so what's the emergency? You sounded terrified on the phone and now you're scaring me. What's wrong, Terra?" Maggie said, after I opened the door for her. Of course I called her. I needed her. My first official date!
As she was making her way over to the couch, I blurted out, "I need your help. Collin asked me out on a date and I have no idea what to wear. I mean I've never been on a date so how do I do this?" I was blabbering.
Maggie walked towards me and put her hands on my shoulders. "Terra, don't worry. Collin is your mate and you guys have hung out a couple of times, so you shouldn't feel awkward about this. Even if it's your first official date, think of it as just another hangout."
She was right. Collin and I have hung out before he asked me out. So I shouldn't feel awkward about this at all. Everything will be fine.
I sighed in relief and all the tension in my body went away. "You're right, Maggs. I was just overreacting. Collin is such a sweet guy and I'm sure he'll still like me in anything I wear.
"Yeah and I'm sure if he had a choice, he would have you wear nothing at all." She winked at me.
I chuckled. "Stop, Maggs." I'm positive there was already a light tint of pink coating my cheeks.
She laughed. "You know it's true, T."
After the way Collin and I have been flirting and teasing each other, she did have a point, but, I wasn't going to admit that. I decided to change the subject. "Okay, so are you going to help me find a perfect outfit for this date, or what?"
"Of course, T. What did you have in mind?"
"Come with me." We headed upstairs to my room, which looked like my closet threw up on it.
"Whoa, what happened in here?" Maggie asked.
I sighed. "I told you, I need your help."

After a long, painful process of choosing what to wear, we went with a strapless dress. It had a boho-embroidered top and a navy skirt. I decided to wear ballet flats. I was not about to wear heels. What if there's a lot of walking? My moon amulet hung right above my cleavage. . . What, I didn't go all out, but he'll get the picture. Wink, wink.

Maggie did my make up and my hair flowed in natural curls. I had to say, I looked gorgeous and I was positive Collin would think so too.
"You look hot, T. I don't know how Collin will keep his hands off you." Maggie chuckled.
I laughed because I was thinking the same thing. I heard the doorbell ring. He was here. I smiled. For the first time, I wasn't nervous. I was actually excited.
"Terra, honey, Collin is-" My mom stood there, eyeing me with tears in her eyes. "Oh, Terra, mija, you look beautiful."
I smiled and gave her a hug. "Thanks mom."
"You're welcome, sweetheart," She pulled away from me and put her hands on my shoulders. "Now, don't leave the poor boy waiting. He looks just about ready to burst into a sweat. Go down there and have fun tonight." She cupped my cheek.
I smiled up at her. "Will do."
My mom and Maggie headed downstairs. Something about wanting me to make a big entrance. I waited for Maggie's cue then headed downstairs. I could hear the sweet, sexy timbre of his deep voice. He looked so dashing in his fancy black shoes, black jeans, a white, buttoned down shirt, and a leather jacket. I can already feel my wolf call to him. He must have noticed because he turned around and faced me. I noticed he was holding these white flowers. Aw, were those for me?
She's beautiful, utterly and breathtakingly beautiful. That dress hugged every curve of her body and left me wanting more. I couldn't take my eyes off of her.
She walked towards me. "Hey there." She said.
I groaned, silently. . . well tried to be silent. Her voice sounded husky. I knew exactly what she was thinking and boy, did I think that was a great idea right about now.
"Hi," I dared to touch her and brought her very close to my body, her warmth spreading through me like electricity.
She looked down at my hand. "What is it that you've got there?"
It was then that I noticed I had bought her flowers. "Oh, these, are for you." I pulled away from her to give her the flowers. "They're vanilla orchids. It reminded me of your scent so I got them for you."

She took a whiff. "Thank you. These are beautiful."
"Not as beautiful as you. Shall we go?"
She smiled. "Yes, let's."

We arrived at the park, near our swings, where a nice, moonlit, candle dinner was set up.
She giggled. "Where are you taking me, Collin?"
I had her blindfolded. I wanted this to be a surprise. I chuckled. "Just a few more steps babe and we'll... be... right... there." I took her blindfold off.
She gasped. "Oh, Collin, it's beautiful."
I smiled. "I'm glad you like it." I brought her closer to the table and pulled her chair out for her.

After we were done with our dinner, Terra said, "This was delicious, Collin." She wiped her lips with a napkin. "I wish this night would never end."
I chuckled. "The night is still not over, love. I still have one more surprise." I clapped my hands and a violinist appeared. I heard her gasp.
I stood up and extended my hand out to her. "May I have this dance?" I asked.
She smiled, brightly and took it. "You may."
With one hand, I grabbed her waist and with the other, I held her hand. She put her hand on my back. She rested her head on my shoulder and we began to dance along with the dulcet sound coming from the violin.
Just then, I felt droplets on my face and wiped it off. It looked like water. Then, I felt another drop and another. I looked up.
"It's raining," I stated and groaned. "This can't be happening."
Terra cupped my face. We stared into each other's eyes, and I could feel the desire between us. We haven't kissed yet and I so desperately wanted to do so now.
As if reading my mind, she said, "Kiss me."
I was so caught up in her eyes, I didn't quite register if what she said was real. "What?"
"I said, kiss me. . . kiss me in the rain."
I looked at her lips then her eyes and back to her lips. They looked so kissable. I bit my lip. I leaned down and kissed her. At first, it was sweet and tender, but then she parted her lips and I took it as an opportunity to enter my tongue in her mouth. The kiss became very sensual and intense. I was in a haze.
We had to pull apart for air. I looked into her eyes and saw the lust and passion, but behind that I saw the... love. She wanted it as much as I did and that was enough for my heart to flip and my wolf to howl in pleasure. I grabbed her face and kissed her again, but this time harder and more passionately. Our tongues danced in a rhythm of desire. I lifted her up from the ground and she wrapped her legs around my waist. The kiss was magical.
It set my every limb on fire and my legs felt like jelly. I had to steady her on a tree. I began to trail kisses down her neck and collarbone. She moaned.
I knew this was going too far, so I stopped it before it turned into something more. I set her down on the ground, pecked her lips, and rested my forehead against hers. We were breathing heavily. I knew in that moment that I loved her. Would it be too soon to say it? On the first date? Well, if it was, I didn't care. It seemed like the right moment to me.
"Terra, I... I love you."
She didn't say anything. She just looked at me. Then, she stood on her tiptoes and kissed me. It took me a second before I responded and kissed her back.
She pulled away. "And, I love you." She said, breathlessly.
My smile went from ear to ear, which made her giggle. We were drenched from the rain, our hair and clothes sticking to our body. I noticed she was shivering. Worried that she could catch a cold, I took off my jacket and put it on her shoulders.
"I love you more. C'mon, T. Let's get you home. I don't want you catching a cold." I stated.
She nodded and bit her lip. I groaned. That was my undoing, so I had to kiss her again.

The Simulacrum
"He who fights with harem tropes should see to it that he himself does not become a harem protagonist. And if you gaze for long into a narrative, the narrative gazes also into you." --- Friedrich Nietzsche (probably?) How would you react if one day you woke up inside an environment running on tropes and clichés? For allegedly average high-schooler Leonard Dunning, this question became quite relevant when one day he woke up in a pristine city on a strange island in the middle of the Atlantic, without any memories, surrounded by classmates who are barely more than characterless placeholders, and with a classic indecisive harem protagonist and his impossibly beautiful love interests for friends. That would be hard to deal with already, yet his investigation into the tropes governing the world, trying to avoid harem shenanigans, and his odd blend of outside-context knowledge, unique abilities, and a penchant for causing trouble wherever he goes ends up dragging him into the center of the action anyway. Disclaimer: This is a tongue-in-cheek, slice of life romantic comedy, with occasional sprinkles of combat and mystery to spice things up. Please do not expect a straight up deconstruction beyond some in-universe meta-commentary by the characters.
