i jolted upright, seemingly subconscious of where am i. i look around and massage the bridge of my nose, realizing i had slept in the guest room. i pushed off the comforter and rolled out of my bed, walking towards the door as i tug down the hem of the long white sleeved shirt i had dug out of the closet last night.
i tip-toed out of the room and down the stairs, looking down at the maids that are busily provisioning the furnitures. the front door was opened and they all welcomed him. mr. byun stood assertively as he preempted his gaze every here and there. his eyes landed my way and a what looked like deceitful smile spreads across his lips. i grew stiff as he makes his way towards me.
"seungwan," he vehemently cups my face when i tried to back away, pulling me by his side as he leads me to the kitchen, a devious smile still etched across his face.
i felt strained upon sitting by the chairs nestled around the huge and long dining table. he hunched over the seat across from me and called out for the foods to be served. i remained silent as he did all the talking. moments later, loud foosteps and uproarious voices errupted coming from the living room.
i tensed on my seat as i stare down at my pancake with every indication of uneasiness as the voice became clearer and louder, seeming to be even more closer. my eyes quickly glanced up at mr. byun who all of a studden stands up from his seat.
"drunk, are we?"
"mind your own business, baekhyun," the other stated, voice filled with conviction.
"hyung," mr. byun hissed.
"ah, the memoir of us being related to each other isn't that clear to me so why would i bother calling you that?"

"baekhyun, your father called over for a meeting with you. right now." a maid calls out. my lips parted as i quietly sighed.
mr. byun immediately walks off from his seat and i glanced up, stared straight ahead as i once again heard his footsteps coming towards me. i felt his hand draping around my waist as he pulls me closer and plants a gentle kiss on my cheek. i slowly pulled away, finding his approach uncomfortable but i was only pulled even closer towards him.
i felt as though i was being watched with every move that i make, and every word that i utter. i slowly look up, my eyes landing on the most piercing pair of brown orbs i've ever seen. a small smirk slowly escapes from his lips and i looked away, as though i didn't notice. i looked away, as if i hadn't seen it coming.
"make yourself at home." mr. byun whispers and let goes of me, giving his, for what i presumed to be brother, a short glance before fleeing out the door.
the atmosphere was quiet and as i stand there, i felt his eyes lingered on me. i pursed my lips together as i lift my head up and pushed the chair back, starting to make my way out the door when of all sudden, a strong grip aholds my wrist, pulling me back. my eyes widened, startled at his action.
"did i scared you, seungwan?"
my breath hitches in the back of my throat and chills skittered down my spine by the way my name rolls out of his tongue and the way his hand travelled from my wrist to my hand as his thumb rubs circles above my hand.
i remained silent and look through his deep eyes, hoping even just a small strength within me adresses him that i'm no weakling. but he only chuckles, feeling his thumb circle around my chin as he tilts my chin up. his hand reaches up and cups my face, his thumb running across my bottom lip as his made a small pout.

"poor little girl," i couldn't compel myself to look anywhere else as his eyes bore into mines. "what did you do to deserve such a bad treatment from that asshole?"
i swallow back the uneasiness, the nervousness, and collected myself. a smile escapes my lips as i let the words freely escape my mouth.
"if there's one thing you should be keeping in mind," i paused, furrowing my eyebrows at him, "it's the fact that there's not a huge barricade seperating you from being equally delinquent and an asshole like him."
i yanked away my hand but he only held it tighter. he clicks his tongue as he tilts his head up. as soon as i was about to push him off using my free hand, his other arm drapes around my waist as he vehemently pulls me closer to his body, completely closing the small proximity between us.
"you spit fire," he whispers to my ear, making chills once again run down my spine. "that's something new to me, seungwan."
i felt his head slowly lean down my shoulder as he slowly pulls away and let goes of me. he looks up, eyes still fixated on me and another smirk takes its place again along his perfect lips.
"you're an asshole." i muttered, glaring up at him.
he chuckles and runs his fingers through his hair, nodding his head, and looking down straight at me.
"love, i'm a lot more better than that. perhaps we'd get along better once you've known more of me?"
"i'd rather not." i countered, starting to back away.
"you're a bad girl, seungwan." he looks down at his wrist, to his watch, and looks back at me. "you wouldn't last a week with him."
i give off a small smirk before once again ambled my way out the door. i pursed my lips as i headed my way up the stairs, wanting to cage myself inside the room instead of being surrounded by bullshits. i needed to think of a plan so i can get out of here.
"kim taehyung!" i stopped abruptly once i heard one of the maids, hyeorin, called out. i look back down and saw him ambling his way towards her. "your dad needs you in his office. right now."
kim taehyung?
i can't control my feels anymore wth ahgsgs

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.

Aeternalis
One born of nothingness. A world born of everything. To return all to nothing. Or surrender to everything. A man born into an infinite world, trying to find his path to the top. Trials and tribulations come from friends and foes alike until all bow before him. ------------------------------------- Author here! This is my 3rd story on RoyalRoad, the other two having long since been dropped years ago. They were a mess of ideas and had no real substanence to them, leading me to begin hating writing them and eventually just stop writing altogether for about a year and a half. Finally, after reading hundreds of thousands of pages of novels, from low fantasy to sci-fi litrpg's to thousands of pages long xianxias, I finally feel ready to write a real story that isn't a cesspool of ideas blended together. I plan to see this out to the end, as I already have the first few major arcs planned out unlike my other stories where I thought of ideas as I wrote. This story takes place in a world with a litrpg system, as per tags. This isn't a VRMMO or Reincarnation story. The main character exists in and is from said world. There are some differences from other litrpg's which will be explained in author notes in the few few chapters. I plan to publich 6-7 chapters a week, each 2-3k words long. If i fail to do so I will create a back-log I have to eventually make up but as of writing this it's the summer for me so I'll have plenty of time to write. Enjoy, and welcome to the world of Aeternalis.

The Black Lord's Promise
It is said that the path to hell is paved with good intentions. Perhaps this does not matter if the world itself is corrupt. Change, then, is to be feared only by those who are themselves corrupt. The first chapter is an extended prologue that sets the scene of a riparian frontier of an alternate world, somewhere between medieval and the pre-industrial age, during an era of turmoil and possibility. A mysterious man is summoned to bring forth a new kingdom, but does he bring hope or calamity?
