《Bed Sheets ✖ Toni Kroos》Chapter 15: Epiphany

Toni's P.O.V

The wall was now imprinted on the back of my eyelids due to how much I stared at it.

The fight I was exposed to left me injured and unable to attend training, but thankfully I didn't have to face anyone after shamefully hitting a girl.

I half expected the police, Iker or Jandro to show up at my door at any second to skin me alive, but two days passed and no one, other than Isco and James, has talked to me.

Silence filled the house, but it was soon broken when my phone went off, revealing Valentina's name on it; a name I haven't seen on my screen for a while. This was either a mistake or a threat.

I picked up but remained silent, waiting for her to break the silence. "Toni?"

"What do you want, Valentina?"

She seemed nervous, "I just wanted to apologize for yesterday. I overstepped my lines."

"You think?" I snorted.

"I know, and cut that attitude because I'm apologizing to you, and trust me Toni you overstepped your line too," she admitted.

"Why are you calling me, Valentina? The damage has been done and everything is on the line for me," I shook my head, even though she couldn't see me.

The line was silent for a few seconds, "I need you, To-"

"Ah, cut the bullshit, now is the time you need me?" I interrupted.

She whispered, "When you slapped me yesterday, it was an epiphany that hit me with it that in that severe state you were in yesterday, I felt more safe with you than I ever will with Jandro."

"You really think I'm going to let it slip?" I snickered.

"Toni, please, I have no one, and you're the only one who can at least make me feel safe," she whispered.

I got up and began pacing around the house, "You really think I'm that easy, don't you? After all the shit you dragged me in, you're coming to me like this?"

I heard her sniff, "Toni, open your door,"

"No," I refused.

"Please,"

My legs took me to the door and I looked out the peep hole to find her there. I opened the door and ended the phone call. She looked up at me with moist eyes and tear-stained cheeks before suddenly embracing me.

I shut the door and remained in my spot, motionless. Time passed and she was still embracing me, wetting my shirt with more tears. "I don't know what I've gotten myself into."

"How bad is it?" I asked, slightly wincing as a result of her touching the stitches on my back.

She looked up at me and realized she touched the wounds before she led me to the couch, "It's so bad I had to hurt you,"

I shook my head, "There's always a solution, Valentina,"

"He put my life on the line, and I knew that even if I found a way to get out of it, he was going to go after you, one way or another." She wiped her tears.

"He can't threaten to kill you, you know, that's illegal."

Her blue eyes looked up at me, "Let me rephrase; he put my freedom on the line."

"God damn it, what did you do?" I slightly turned myself to her.

She looked down at her fingers, "I still can't believe it happened, I can't live with myself,"

"Despite everything you did to me, I'm still not going to judge you."

"But you're not going to help,"

"You don't always get what you want,"

She buried her face in her hands and sobbed, "I'm losing everything, it's all falling apart."

I felt uneasy and dubious; I didn't know whether or not to trust her. Nevertheless I rubbed her back, "Stop crying, it's not good for the baby,"

"I don't care anymore," she sniffed.

"Jandro will, though," it bitterly slipped out of my mouth.

Another sad look I received. She let out a soft wince and wiped her eyes, "I want to come out clean to you about everything. Because this is your baby."
