《Soulmates》Chapter 8

Valentino and his brothers stare at the door of the room silently before he started to get up. Smoothing the creases of his button up shirt, he calmly walks to the door and open it with his brothers following behind. What one could describe the bar is chaos. Men or women, all of them are shoving each other to save themselves, all the fun earlier was forgotten.

Humans or not, there is one thing that all the creatures is similar about. Good and bad. And now, selfishness is snacking their hearts at this moment, making them lose all the common sense.

Men with guns and weapons swarmed the bar, firing the bullets randomly to scare the people. A man in particular stood in the front of the bulky and scary-looking men, their leader, Valentino assumes. With a cigarette in between his lips, the leader puts his boots clad foot on a stool as he points the gun in hand an inch from the bartender's forehead.

"Where's your owner?" He askes coolly.

"I-L-Let me call him f-first." The bartender's replied, trembling in terror.

"Huh, okay then. Go," He shooed the bartender with his gun carelessly, gesturing him to go get the owner of the bar. But the bartender only got to take a step before a gun was shot off, and his lifeless body falls with a thud to the cold floor, a hole decorating the center of his head with splutters of his brain around the corpse.

It's obvious from the very start he didn't intend to let the bartender go alive.

"Eh, I could find him myself." The leader of the gang, likely, smirks before he strides to a stairs leading to the upper floor. On his way there, he stops on his track when he notices for the first time the presences of men standing calmly on the side watching the brutalness of the scene unfolded itself.

He tilted his head in bewilderment, "Hmm? Who are you gentlemen?"

The group of god-like men just staring at him quietly, without even bother to satisfy his curiosity.

Seconds passed, and the leader of the gang could feels chill run down his spine the longer those inhuman eyes staring at him. He fidget.

"Forget it! Let's go!" He shouted to his men, as he climbs the stairs and dissappears behind the corner.

Valentino steps forward to continue walking again, but the ear-piercing sound of gun shot resounding through the air. Simultaneously, he caught a whiff of mouth-watering and calming scent of jasmine in the air, forcing him to stop in his track.

He froze.

What is that smell? Could it be...?

His brothers look confusingly at him when they notice their brother is not within their group.

They turned their head at once to look at Valentino.

"Val? What's wrong?"

"Huh?"

As if he was slapped out of his trance viciously, his eyes cleared out and his calm and cold facade was snapped back to their place. "I left something. Go on first."

The brothers nod at that and turned to leave.

Valentino's brows scrunched in thought, his handsome face looks serious and cold. The moment the elevator closed, he turns around to follow the scent he caught in the air.

His heart palpitated strongly against his ribcage. For the first time ever, his heart races within his body. He tried to calm his heart by inhaling a mouthful of breath and continued following that scent.

He climbs the stairs and turned to a corner the leader took earlier. He suddenly feels anxious. He couldn't help but think, what if the man do something to her?

He will kill him.

Yes, he will kill him.

He walks faster as he sniffs the intoxicating smell again to trace it. Or maybe because he just loves that scent.

The hallway get darker and narrower as he trudges along the way.

What is she doing in a place like this?

He scowls.

He eventually halts in front of a single door at the end of the hallway, as he sniffs again.

He suddenly has a ridiculous thought that he is acting like a dog. Sigh.

The scent smelt stronger here.

He quickly shoves open the door in rush.

But there's nothing.

He steps into the room and checks every damn corners, eyes alert and anticipating to see a woman somewhere here.

But all he saw was corpse lying lifeless on the floor, a pool of crimson liquid around it. The pungent smell of blood wafted in the air, covering the heavenly smell of his possible soulmate until just a trace faint of it lingering in the air.

Without his knowing, he started breathing heavily in frustration, eyes wandering crazily.

"Is it just an illusion?"

Is she really here? Or she has gone before he came?

He sure he smell her earlier.

But now the smell has gone, as if she never even here in the first place.

He ran his hand through his bright red hair, making it messy.

His shoulders slump in sadness and frustration. His hand absentmindedly caress the flower vein like tattoo circling his left pinky. The black color against his skin makes him looks badass and manly, along with his long and elegant fingers.

His face is blank and cold still, not giving temptation to just let all of his emotion shows on his face.

But people say eyes are the mirror of the soul.

And his unique turquoise eyes expressing all of his buried feelings.

Maybe it was just his illusion.

Maybe he is too desperate and longing for his significant other.

He took a breath, and in an instant, his eyes gaining back its frost.

He has to be strong, for his brothers and her.
