This is the start of the Bloodlust trilogy. This is only the prologue and the first book is already completed, is yet to be edited. You can find the rest of the story on my page.
Prologue
I watched the drops of rain sliding down my window as they raced to the bottom. At least the weather hadn't changed in Ashburn- still the constant rain and the sunless days. I know it should feel like I am home but it feels far from it. Being gone over ten years did that to you. The place you once grew up in is no longer your home.
"Everything is just how it was when I left." I said quietly.
I could see my father's right hand man from the windows reflection. He had been standing there for ten minutes just looking at me. I've known him since I was a little kid. I bet he held me in his arms when I was a baby. He was always around my father so I've grown to see him as family.
"You were very young when you left," Donovan said. "you still remember?"
"I remember a lot of things, Don." I said, finally turning away from the window.
I walked to my bed and sat on the edge. It felt strange being back here and it felt strange seeing the changes done to my room. What was once pink and bright was now all white. There was no color to my room anymore. My walls were stripped of any posters I had pinned up.
"Your father is waiting for you in his study." He informed me.
I nodded and continued to look around at my room. My black suitcase was still at the foot of the bed. I hadn't opened it to unpack and probably wouldn't do it until tomorrow. I didn't want to risk my father telling me I was just here as a pit stop. He had done that twice before and I don't think I would be able to take another round.
I stopped having hopes of returning after the first time my father brought me back. I was here for no more than three weeks and he shipped me off again. I was sent to England with an aunt that was supposed to take care of me. Turns out I was to attend a boarding school without coming home after the semesters, or even during breaks.
"I will be there in a few."
Donovan nodded and left my room without further word. I sighed and wrapped my arms around myself. My room felt cold and so foreign to me. I had grown up in this room and this room had belonged to me. The more I try to picture how it used to be, the more I am wishing I could just go back to England.
I get off the bed and head down to my father's study. I run my hand against one of the walls as I walk to his study. The walls were still a Teal green color that slowly had begun to fade over the time. Dad still kept the family picture frames on the walls. The broken frames ha d been replaced the day after he had broken them all.
When my mother died my dad was devastated. Nothing could get him out of the heart broken stage he was in. Everyone hoped that with me at his side he would snap out of it. I had to be his priority now but he only pushed me away. He couldn't deal with raising me so he shipped me off to a strange place where someone else could do it for him.

I lightly knocked on the door and stepped in. He didn't look up when I entered the room and still didn't look up when I sat down in front of him. After a few seconds of silent he finally looked up and narrowed his eyes. He sat back on his chair and crossed his arms over his chest.
"You know not to enter unless I say it is okay." Was the first thing he said. "You know not to sit unless I tell you to."
"Actually, I've been away for a long time now. I forget a lot of things that has to do with you and this house." I lied.
"Stand." He said.
I didn't argue with him and did as he said. He looked at me expectantly and I knew he wanted me to ask him permission to sit. He always did that with me. Dad liked me to be obedient and not a problem child like he always claimed me to be.
"May I sit down, father?" I said, exaggerating the last word.
He motioned for me to sit and I took a seat. He went down to looking at his paperwork in front of him. I realized that he hadn't changed as much. He was a bit thinner than the last time I had seen him but that's about it. He still kept his face freshly shaved and his hair was still spiked up. It was short so there wasn't much he could do with it.
"Welcome home, Chloe." He said.
"Can't say I'm not surprised that you've finally decided to let me come back."
"Despite what you think- I've done what was best for you."
"What was best for me, or what was best for you." I shot.
"Don't use that tone with me, young lady. I am still your father and you will have respect for me or I swear I will-"
"Ship me back to England?" I cut him off. "Sorry dad, but that's not surprising anymore nor is it threatening to me."
The slight accent I had developed over the years was evident when I was angry. I hadn't meant to raise my voice especially knowing he could very well send me back. In reality it was freaking me out inside that he might decide to do it again. I just wanted to stay for a while and feel close to whatever home was supposed to feel like.
"I'm not sending you back anymore. It's safe enough for you to be here now and I won't need to send you away anymore."
"It's not like I care."
"Chloe, enough of your attitude. It had been a long day and I don't want you giving me headaches. I will have Don set up your room with new furniture and have some men do some remodeling. You can stay in the guest room until they finish."
"Gee thanks." I said sarcastically.
"Chloe." He warned. "I have rules."
"Now those I remember."
Every time I had spoken to my dad about coming back we went over the rules he had set for me. To me they were ridiculous but he took them very seriously. He threatened not to bring me home if I refused to follow those rules of his.
I wasn't allowed to leave the house without a bodyguard. I had to have Donovan with me at all times or his left hand man, Kyle. They were always the usual guys that guarded me. I couldn't sneak away from them either or else I would get us all into trouble with my dad.

I couldn't talk to anyone I didn't know and found as a threat. Dad took the whole don't-talk-to-strangers to an extreme. Since my mother passed away he has been paranoid with me. I didn't understand it but at least I was trying. Sometimes he acted as if I didn't even care. He was my dad and the only family I had left in the world.
"I'm not joking, Chloe. You know the consequences of defying me so I suggest you follow all of my rules. I want you home every single day and I am to approve the people you talk to. You cannot be out any later than eight and-"
"Are you serious? Dad, who the hell has a curfew at eight?"
"Language, Chloe." He warned. "Fine, no later than nine thirty."
"Whatever, it's not like anything I say matters."
"You are to have someone with you every time you decide to go out. I don't want you to slip on your grades. Just...try to stay out of trouble." He sighed.
I didn't know what he was expecting me to do. I never got in trouble at the boarding school I was attending. I was able to keep up with my grades and I hardly left the library. I spent most of my time on my own. I had no one that I wanted to keep as a friend, I made that clear the first day I got there.
"I'm not going to get into trouble. Have a little faith in me, Dad."
"You're your mothers daughter, that's why I worry."
"Whatever that is supposed to mean." I mumbled.
"I registered you in school already and you will be starting after thanksgiving break."
I was excited to see the few friends I had been able to keep in contact with. They were the friends I grew up with and every time I came back I felt like I was whole again. I had missed them so much and made sure that we wouldn't stray apart.
They both knew I was in town already. I kept their numbers in my cell phone but now I had a new one and had to store my contacts in it. When Donovan picked me up from the airport he already had it in hand. He had other things for me as well but those were just extra. I got a new laptop to do homework on.
"If you need school supplies Donovan will get them for you."
"Can't I just go on my own?" I asked, hopeful.
"I can't have you out on your own." He said, deeply frowning. "You know that already."
"Don or Kyle can shadow me but I want to go into town. I want to stop by at the library too and get some books. Please dad, I promise I won't be out for long."
"Take Don."
I nodded and after an unsuccessful conversation I was dismissed from his office. I darted to my room and decided to shower before heading out into town. I welcomed the warmth of the running water. I removed all trace of makeup I was wearing. The shower was refreshing and I didn't feel so jet lagged.
I hopped out of the shower and changed into comfy clothes. I swung my bag over my shoulder and headed down the stairs. Don was waiting for me already and smiled when he saw me. He opened the door and we stepped out into the sun.
"You look just like your mother, Chloe." Don said, opening the car door for me.
"Thank you, Don." I said, smiling and climbing in the car.
People always told me I was the spitting image of my mother. My hair was a very light blonde that with the time had grown lighter like hers and my eyes were clear as the blue sky. I wasn't as tall or as beautiful as my mother, but I got some things from her. Dad said that I had her personality and her good heart.
We went to the store first and got some things for school. Mostly I wanted to get another diary to keep since my current one had only a few more couple of blank pages. After getting a few decorations for my room Don drove me to the library. Apart from the Purple Lantern, Ashburn's public library was my favorite place in town.
"Don, could you not hover over me in here please?" I asked as we walked in the library.
"How about I give you ten fifteen minutes to yourself while I get us something for the go?" Don said.
"Could you get me a Tea Latte please?"
"Since when do you drink tea?" Don asked, raising a dark eyebrow.
"Since I decided that I like tea more than coffee."
I parted ways with Don and headed to my favorite section- Teen Fiction. There was something about escaping to a different world that made me forget about my life. Pathetic but this is what I had to stoop to. I spent all of my time reading and wishing that I could be one of those girls the hero sweeps off of her feet.
I picked out a couple of books I wanted to rent. I would have to make myself a mental not to purchase books from Barnes and Noble online. I doubted my dad was going to let me go on my own and it always took me hours just to decide on one book.
I was probably ten minutes that I was picking out books. I wish I had more time but there was only so much I could do with my father's strict rules. I walked out of the Teen Fiction section and to my luck I ran into someone. My books almost slipped from my arms but I was glad I could catch them.
"Sorry about that, didn't see you there."
"It's okay."
I looked up at the boy and was surprised by his strange eyes. They were golden and seemed to be glowing. The boy was far too tall for his own good and he had curly locks. His brown hair was tossed to the side and he had a blazer on. He bent down in front of me and came up with a book in his hands. It was one of the books I had decided to read.
"Werewolf book." He said, looking at the cover. "Interesting."
"Yeah, that's mine." I said.
"You're into werewolves?"
"I guess you could say that." I said.
"This is about shifters-not moon walkers."
"There's a difference?" I asked, raising a brow.
I reached for the book and he pulled back. He smiled at me while I had a frown on my face. He looked down at the cover and flipped the book to the last page. I watched as he read the last page and then he handed it back to me.
"There definitely is a difference." He said, speaking quietly. "Moon walkers don't have a happy ending."
With that he started walking away from me. I looked after him feeling totally confused. He walked after him and cached up. I tapped him on the shoulder and he stopped. He only turned to look at me and raised a brow.
"What's your name?" I asked.
He smiled and continued walking.
"Dimitri." He said. "Dimitri Sinclair."
