"Snow. Snow. Snow. I'm going to kill Snow,"

Jace looks over at his sister with a worried expression plastered over his face. Never had he seen her like this, so inconsolable or so insistent on getting revenge. It's not his sister, this behaviour is not her and he fears it will spiral into something much worse. Unfortunately the only other person who would know how to console her is gone. Finnick is not here to help him take care of her anymore.

Katniss and Gale have raided the closet of a woman's home which they'd stormed into. Fortunately for Elena, she hadn't witnessed Katniss murder the homeowner because it probably would have set her off even more. Some clothes are dumped before her and she slowly changes into them, disguising herself with makeup and sunglasses.

As she does so, her mind has Finnick on a constant loop. Memories that the two of them have shared run through her mind over and over as she tries her hardest to remember him, afraid that the moment she stops she will forget about him completely.

Jace grabs some extra supplies for his little sister, knowing that her mind is anywhere but the present. He also notices the blonde boy from District Twelve is hovering around her, almost as if he is trying to decide the best way to approach her. He can't seem to find the answer and unfortunately for Peeta, Jace doesn't know either.

The older Rogers sibling holds the hand of the younger and carefully guides her out of the home and through the streets. Katniss and Cressida discuss where to go ahead of them, their voices in whispers. Elena looks about and manages to catch a glimpse of Finnick's face through somebody's window — the Capitol obviously are unaware of who they killed with their attack.

"Tigris," Cressida speaks as they arrive at a storefront. "We need your help. Plutarch said you could be trusted,"

The woman moves about and then gestures for the group to follow her. Elena finds herself looking back to the window she'd seen earlier, desperately hoping to catch another look at her dead mentor. She can only imagine the photos are on a rotation that doesn't stop, engraving their faces into the minds of the Capitol people so they'd remember them - so they can turn them in if they see them.

The trail after her until a safer spot is found where they can all rest. Elena stumbles over to a corner where she practically collapses, leaning against the wall and closing her eyes.

"When this is all said and done, I hope we can move back to District Four and continue on with our lives. I'd love to raise a family there, you know? Teach them to swim and fish - maybe Aunty Elena could even teach them to read. I know how much you love that,"

"You've got to keep them clean, otherwise the infection could spread-"

Katniss' voice breaks her thoughts of a conversation that happened only hours earlier. Elena looks over to Katniss and Peeta speaking amongst themselves and she cannot help but feel a burst of anger as she sees the girl. She let him die - Katniss had killed him.

Elena watches as Peeta is shackled back up, at his request, before drifting off to sleep. The blonde haired girl then turns her back on the group, not wanting to look at any of them as they continue on as if everything is somewhat normal. None of them show much grief and it kills her inside to know that she's the only one who seems too concerned with the fact Finnick is dead.

The man who had revived Peeta, had saved Katniss' life and had done more for Elena than she could ever repay — he was simply just gone. There was no chance that he'd walk into the room with his usual cocky smirk nor was there a chance he'd be returning home to his wife who probably has no idea what is happening, she's still waiting for him to return home.

"You should eat,"

Elena shifts and looks back at Gale who is holding some food out to her. Her eyes linger on it for a moment before she turns away from him, rejecting his offer. Elena hears his sigh but cannot being herself to care in the slightest. Instead, she hugs herself and stares at the wall in front of her.

"She won't eat," Gale comments as he sits down beside her worried brother.

"I can't just leave her like that, she'll let the grief consume her. I've seen her do it before and I know it'll only be worse this time," Jace replies.

The blonde doesn't even react when the Capitol broadcast comes on, they're now fully aware of who is alive and who is not. She flinches at the sound of his name when it's spoken, knowing it not only confirms he's truly gone but breaks the news to a heartbroken Annie Cresta back in District Thirteen.

After a few more moments, she finds herself drifting off into a somewhat peaceful sleep.

His face crossed her mind almost a hundred times during her dreams - they were old memories that she cherished and she is grateful that for once, her mind seems to be on her side. Memories of fishing or when they would have small celebrations at one of their homes. When she wakes, it almost breaks her heart all over. How she wishes she could simply live in her dreams.

Elena's eyes flutter open after a few moments and she sees that the group is huddled around Tigris' television once again and watching some footage they have on. Evacuation has been ordered for the people of the Capitol and now, a majority of citizens are flooding towards the town centre so they have a safe place to be.

Tigris heads out to try and find some information, the only one of the group who is a relatively free person - if any of the others are caught, they're as good as dead. It's no until the evening that she actually returns, with food in hand for the rebels to consume. When she's done, they return to the television.

Elena flinches when she watches footage of a young man being killed by a small crowd, the group believing that he may have been Peeta. The blonde looks over to Peeta who looks troubled by the footage and when his eyes connect with her's, she looks away again.

"Peeta," Katniss' voice is quiet and the boy looks in her direction. "The group is going to head out in the morning. We think it would be best for you to stay here,"

"I think that maybe Elena should too," Gale pipes up quietly. "She's still grieving and she won't be able to focus properly,"

"I can focus just fine, Hawthorne. I want to see Snow get what's coming to him," she speaks almost viciously.

"Rosie, I think he's right," Jace replies and he almost winces at the betrayed expression that flickers in her eyes. "You could get hurt,"

"Yeah? So could you. All of you could. I'm not fragile, Jace. I know how to take care of myself,"

"You're staying. I'm not going to fight with you on this. Stay with Peeta, make sure he is kept safe,"

"Peeta doesn't need me to hold his hand—"

"Actually, I'd prefer if you kept me company," Peeta's voice is soft, it's almost as if she's talking to the boy she'd first met at the parade. "You should stay,"

Elena looks at him, her expression wavering as she sees him standing their. Peeta, the boy who has been by her side for months now. They've taken care of each other, kept one another safe — she cannot abandon him now.

"Fine," Elena sounds defeated as she sits down in her corner again, not bothering to look at them again.

In the morning, the group are saying their goodbyes. Elena doesn't bother to speak to any of them except her brother who she gives a short hug too. Whether she's angry at him or not, she will not allow him to leave without a goodbye — she doesn't know if he'll actually come back.

"You don't have to sit all the way over there. I won't hurt you," There is almost a joking aspect of his tone but Elena knows he's serious. He still doesn't entirely trust that he won't snap at somebody.

"I know that," Elena responds to him. "I'm just not in the mood to chat much is all,"

"Yeah, I get that. I'm sorry, about Finnick. I know you really cared about him,"

Even just hearing his name fall from somebody's lips makes her want to cry, which to her surprise she hasn't done much of recently. Peeta seems to notice her quivering lip because he moves over to her, his arm hesitantly wrapping around her. She instinctively leans into him, her head resting on his shoulder as tears leak out of her eyes.

"Just let it out,"

And she did. That morning, Elena Rogers cried in the arms of the boy who she adores whilst grieving another. Her sobs loud and uncontrollable as she clutches onto Peeta, the sound of explosions in the distance not even registering in her ears. The screams of the Capitol residents and if they'd been closer, they would've heard Katniss and her calls for her sister.
