《INFINITY, peeta mellark ✔️》xxiv. real or not real

they did not trust the blonde haired boy in the slightest. Boggs had ordered for there to be two people watching the boy at all times, and at his order, Elena is not to be counted as one of these people. She is believed to be a bias party and therefore cannot be truly trusted when it comes to keeping an eye on the boy. Boggs is pretty mad overall, incredibly angry at the fact Peeta has joined them.
"Do you want me to kill him?" Elena hears Gale mummer to Katniss which makes the blonde snap her as to the side.
"I may not condone killing but I will not hesitate to point this gun at your head and shoot," Elena uncharacteristically hisses at the boy who holds his hands up defensively. "Leave him be, he doesn't need you two being so openly hateful,"
"It's fine, Gale. I can deal with him," Katniss mumbles and Elena has to stop herself from rolling her eyes.
Her usual friendly exterior seems to have faded slightly these past few days. People don't seem to be giving Peeta the time of day anymore even though he's recently been through so much. It irritates her and she thanks both Jace and Finnick for their attitudes. He has had to deal with some serious mental manipulation, and whilst she understands it's hard for Katniss to deal with this, it's even harder for him to recover.
"He can't deal with you, Katniss. To him you're still the bad guy, even with some of his memories slowly flowing back to him. Leave him be," Elena speaks as she grabs some of the food for dinner and walks over to Peeta who is sitting with his two guards — Jace and Finnick.
"Elena, I promise you -" Katniss starts only to be cut off as she moves closer.
"Are you trying to provoke him? Trying to send him spiralling again? When you're done blaming him for something that is out of his control, then you can be around him," Elena replies, picking at the food in front of her.
Katniss is unsure of how to respond to the blonde haired girl and Gale takes it upon himself to pull her away to sit with him instead. Jace has a small smirk on his face as he watches his younger sister stick up for Peeta, a hidden part of her personality seeming to push out when the boy is provoked.

"Peeta," Boggs is somewhat quiet as he moves over to where the four of them are sitting. "You will have to sleep in the view of everybody tonight so we can keep an eye on you,"
"Is that really necessary?" Jace questions. "He can sleep in my tent with me and Elena," he adds on.
"It's not safe. We have to keep an eye on him, he could be dangerous," Boggs responds to the man.
"But-" Elena tries to interject.
"Not buts. He can sleep out by the heater but he must be in the sights of two guards,"
He walks away from the group and Elena turns her attention to Peeta who looks a little downtrodden. She gently places a hand on his shoulder and smiles softly.
By the time it's reached midnight, Peeta is still wide awake when Katniss leaves her tent for watch. Elena is in the sleeping bag beside him, her eyes closed and soft snores leaving her mouth as she sleeps. The boy is playing with a piece of rope, trying to knot it. He turns his attention to the District Twelve girl after a few moments.
"These last couple of years must have been exhausting for you. Trying to decide whether to kill me or not. Back and forth. Back and forth," Peeta speaks and he watches as Katniss struggles to think of an answer.
"I never wanted to kill you. Except when I thought you were helping the careers kill me. After that I thought of you as an ally," the last word comes moments after, showing that she had to think of an appropriate word.
"Ally?" He says softly. "Friend. Lover. Victor. Enemy. Fiancé. Target. Mutt. Hunter. Tribute. Ally. I'll be sure to add it to the list of words I use to figure you out. The problem is I don't know what's real and not real. Elena tries to help me but it's still so confusing,"
It's as if he appears out of nowhere, but Finnick is the next person to speak.
"Then you should ask Peeta. That's what Annie does," Finnick says to the two of them.
"Ask who? Elena? She must get sick and tired of my questions," He responds quietly.
"She doesn't tire of your questions, kid. Trust me," Jace interjects. "Besides, you could just ask us. We're your squad,"

"My guards," Peeta corrects.
"That too. But you saved a lot of lives in Thirteen which we don't forget," Jackson replies.
It's quiet for a while and Peeta finds himself looking over at Elena who is still fast asleep. His lips twitch up as he reaches over and gently brushes some hair from her face. She stirs lightly and he pulls his hand away so he doesn't wake her. A few memories seem to flood his mind as he stares at her which causes his attention to turn back to Katniss.
"You're favourite colour is green," His voice is quiet but she hears it.
"Yes. Your's is orange," Katniss responds.
"Like Elena's dress,"
"Yeah, like Elena's dress,"
The following morning, Elena is made aware of a new game they have made to help Peeta out called 'Real or not real.' Personally, she thinks it is a great idea. She knows that he struggles to distinguish between real and fake events.
"You're from District four," Peeta speaks to the girl who nods and smiles.
"Real. We spoke about you learning how to swim when we were in the arena. I think you'd like it in four though," Elena replies to him.
"I gave you something in the arena, didn't I? I have brief memories of handing you something,"
"Definitely real. It was a small pearl but I lost it when we had to fight some people. It was very nice though,"
The two of them walk side by side as they continue to travel. Today they've been told that a lot of filming will more than likely take place. The cameras still make her uncomfortable but she knows that if they'd like some shots of her, she should do it so that the people in the Capitol know she's a part of this too.
There will be some smoke bombs and adding of sound effects so that it can seem like a more drama filled shoot. All of them, the camera crew included, are suited up in heavy protective gear so that it looks all the more realistic. Guns are also handed out, even to Peeta. However, his is full of blanks just in case he lashes out at the people around him.
Peeta doesn't even seem as if he is paying attention to anybody other than Pollux, one of the people who have joined them on their journey. Elena can not figure out what has him so intrigued.
"You're an avox aren't you?" Peeta asks him. "There were two avoxes with me in prison. Darius and Laviana their names were. I watched them be tortured but she was the luckier one. They used too much voltage and stopped her heart,"
Elena seems a little disturbed by his words, the unfortunate reality of what happened to him now coming to the surface more and more. She's heard about several things he had to endure but it's horrible to hear about. The amount of times she has almost ended up in tears at his experiences, she only wishes she was there to help him through it.
"It took days to finish him off. Beating, cutting off parts. They kept asking him questions but he couldn't speak," Peeta then adds on. "They wanted me to see it,"
Nobody knows what to say to him, he simply watches the shock that is upon everybody's faces. It's almost as if he's awaiting an answer.
"Real or not real?"
"Real," Boggs replies. "At least to the best of my knowledge,"
"I thought so. There was nothing shiny about it,"
Peeta moves away from the group. It isn't long until they're calling them over for filming. When action is called, they all walk down the street rather slowly so they can get some good shots of the victors. Everybody is assigned a window to shoot out and Elena jumps a little at the noise. She can only hope that the camera didn't catch that.
It's when Gale hits a pod that things get a little more hectic. Everybody dives into cover, Elena and Peeta together, as bullets spray all around them. Each person is made to re-enact moments later so they can get some close ups.
The group move forward together, Boggs in the front more so just so he can double check the next pod before them. He checks it and then steps back onto a specific paving stone — causing a bomb to explode at his feet.
Hi everybody! After the boring update yesterday, I decided to write another! Hope you enjoyed it!
