it's hard to find any real reason to be happy. Everybody, however, has their own form of happiness - something that brings them true joy. For many it's family, for other's it's money - it's truly subjective. For Elena, it's the people she surrounds herself with, those who she really cares about.

Jace, Finnick and Peeta - the three people that she clutches onto for a sense of normality. Then there are the others whom she enjoys being around - Katniss, Prim, Annie.

So therefore, seeing all of them everyday has the ability to bring a small smile to her face and brighten up her day. Even on the worst of days, she can always count on at least one of them to be there for her when she needs somebody.

"How does it feel knowing today you'll get out properly?" Elena questions the blonde boy who is finally getting to leave the room for more than a few minutes.

"Good," is his soft reply.

"We can go and get you something to eat,"

"Sounds good,"

Elena greatly detests the shackles around his wrists but is unable to fight Coin on them, annoyance filling her even more so when the two large guards are forced to follow them. In order to ease the tension he is obviously feeling, she manages to loop her arm through his as they head towards the food. The blonde girl makes up a tray for the both of them and they walk over to the table where Finnick, Katniss, Gale and a few others are seated.

"Are you okay with sitting here?" She mummers quietly and receives a nod in response. "Hey guys," Elena greets the people at the table.

"Hi Elena, hello Peeta!" A bubbly voice greets, the voice of a girl named Delly. Elena had met the girl a few days prior when she'd come to see Peeta. Apparently, the two of them were friends growing up in District Twelve - Elena is grateful that Peeta has another friend to turn to.

"What's with the fancy bracelets?" Johanna asks as she gestures to Peeta's hands.

"I'm not quite trustworthy yet, no matter how hard Elena tried to fight them on it. I can't even sit here without your permission," Peeta comments.

"He can sit here. We're old friends. We shared adjoining cells in the Capitol and we're very familiar with each other's screams,"

Elena flinches as the words as she sits beside her brother, Peeta brushing his hand against her's as best as he can to give her some sort of comfort. Jace gives the two of them a smile in greeting before returning to his beef stew.

"If we're going to fit that walk in, we better go," Finnick says after a few moments as he looks at his wife. Annie nods her head and they get to their feet, Finnick holding Annie with one arm and their trays with the other. "Good seeing you Peeta,"

Peeta nods, his expression still rather cold and untrusting around Elena's close friend. It saddens Elena that the two of them, Peeta in particular, don't seem that fond of each other.

"He saved your life, Peeta. More than once," Delly comments quietly as she sees how cold the boy is.

"For her," Peeta replies before nodding at Katniss who is now paying more attention to what is going. "For the rebellion. Not for me. I don't owe him anything,"

"He still saved your life, he could've just left you to die. You're still here. That must count for something," Katniss interrupts and Elena winces as Peeta's gaze snaps over to her.

"Yeah, a lot of things should count for something that don't seem to. I've got memories I can't seem to make sense of and I don't think the Capitol touched them," His voice is more vicious than Elena has ever heard.

Katniss goes quiet, the memories more than likely running through her mind. The Rogers siblings sit in an awkward silence, unsure how to approach the situation. Then Peeta starts to speak again.

"So, are you two officially a couple now or are they still dragging out the star-crossed lovers thing?" Peeta ponders aloud as he gestures between Gale and Katniss.

"Oh those days are gone now. The Capitol have a new favourite couple now," Johanna says before winking at Elena who blushes. "Although Snow is even more pissed about your little act in the first games and the whole fake pregnancy thing,"

"I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself," Gale suddenly pipes up.

"What's that?" Peeta's tone is strained as Gale looks at him.

"You,"

"You'll have to be a little more specific,"

"That they've replaced you with the evil-mutt version of yourself," Johanna inserts herself back into the conversation yet again.

"Johanna," Elena hisses quietly.

Katniss and Gale leave them table and Peeta begins to talk quietly to himself under his breath.

"You shouldn't treat her like that Peeta," Delly's voice is squeaky as she talks loudly to the boy. "It's not right to take things out on her,"

Peeta doesn't answer, just continues to speak to himself - it sounds like he is having an internal struggle, fighting with himself. Elena, concerned, gently places a free hand on his shoulder in order to provide some comfort. It doesn't seem to help and gets worse when Delly has another go at him.

"She's been through enough-"

"Enough. Leave him alone," Elena snaps.

"He cannot act like this without being told he's in the wrong-"

"And you have no right to chastise him. You want to talk about being through things, he's had the worst of us. Lost his family, had his memory altered. I think you should lay off and leave him be for the moment. Gale doesn't help with his stupid comments,"

"Elena," Jace's voice is quiet as he grabs her arm but she pulls herself away.

"Peeta? Would you like to go back to your room?"

Peeta nods his head rather quickly and Elena gets to her feet, helping him up and walking with him back to his room. The boy lays on the bed and she covers him with the blankets, kissing his forehead gently.

"Get some rest, okay?" Elena mumbles softly.

Peeta nods and shuts his eyes, Elena leaving him so he can have some peace and quiet. She walks away and when somebody grabs her arm, she turns to them.

"I can't take the way they treat him like some sort of monster," She says to her brother who has a sad smile on his face. She allows him to pull her into his arms.

"I know, Rosie. I'm so proud of you for finding the will to stand up for him, I know confrontation isn't your thing," Jace responds and her expression softens when she hears the nickname.

"Will it ever get better?"

"Things have to get worse before they get better here, Lena. Peeta may never be truly okay but I think people alienating him is the last thing he needs right now. Just keep doing what you're doing, your presence seems to bring some sort of comfort to him,"

"Yeah,"

Jace pulls back and looks down at his little sister who is in tears, clutching onto him now as if he's a lifeline. The pain, the suffering - all of it brings him great anger. All he can hope is that when the rebellion is truly done, that some sort of true happiness will come her way whether it's in the form of a healthier Peeta or something else.

Whilst he fights the Capitol for the people of Panem, his true objective is to make the world safe for the smaller blonde whom had felt nothing but despair since she was a young child.
