《INFINITY, peeta mellark ✔️》xxi. wedding

and looks at her orange dress, the same dress she'd told Peeta about the other day. The material is soft and flows downwards by her knees, frilling slightly at the bottom. Unfortunately, he isn't able to join her at the wedding per orders of Coin so she's flying solo today. However, she will drop in and see him again later.
The blonde makes her way out of the room and down the hallway towards where Finnick's wedding is being held. Jace had said he would meet her in there, not wanting to disturb his younger sister as she got ready for the wedding. Annie, the bride to be, had requested that Elena stand in as her maid of honour whilst Jace takes on the role of best man for Finnick — the Rogers siblings being two of the most important people in Finnick's life and therefore Annie's.
She opens up the door to a room on the way to the venue, smiling at her District Partner as he nervously looks at himself in the scrappy mirror before him. The man's head snaps to the side when he hears the door, his lips twitching upwards into a small smile as she approaches.
"You look nervous," Elena states. "You'll do fine,"
"I never get nervous," he scoffs which emits an eye roll from her. "Just a little antsy is all. I see you ended up going with the orange,"
"It's Peeta's favourite colour,"
"When do I get to attend that wedding?"
Elena smacks his arm and he winces softly, a playful smile plastered upon his face. As a result of this, she finds herself smiling in response, stepping into his arms for an embrace which he gladly accepts. They stand in utter silence for a few moments, enjoying the company of one another.
"I'm glad you're here for this," Finnick finally mumbles.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world," she replies softly, leaning back so that they can look at each other properly. "You know that,"
"Yeah. Sometimes I just feel as if you're all going to fade away if I look away you'll all fade. That when I wake up, Annie won't be beside me or you won't be down the hall – it's silly but I-"
"It's the furthest thing from silly. I have the same nightmares all the time, you, Jace, Peeta - it's always like that. Just know that Annie and I will both be here until the day we die,"

Finnick grabs the sides of her face and gently presses his lips to her forehead affectionately. When the blonde pulls away from him, there's a knock at the door signifying that they're ready for the wedding to begin. Elena gives him one last encouraging gaze before leaving him and moving towards where she will be. In her hands lay a bunch of flowers — the flower girl role partially filled by her as well.
When given her cue, the blonde walks out and begins to toss the flowers gently down the aisle, allowing them to fall to the floor beneath her. She can feel eyes on her as she moves but ignores them, reaching the end of the aisle and awaiting Annie to make an appearance. The redhead is quick to follow, heading towards them. Finnick watches her with utter most adoration, something that Elena admires and craves herself.
"From this day forth, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer. I promise to love and Cherish you each day," Annie speaks as she looks at her soon to be husband.
I, finnick odair, take you, Annie cresta, as my wife from this day forth.Together or apart, we will always be united. One life, one purpose, one destiny," Finnick responds.
"You May now kiss the bride,"
Elena claps and smiles brightly, her expression practically lighting up the room as she does so. Soon enough, the wedding is in full swing - people dancing, laughing and having an overall good time as they celebrate the newlywed couple before them.
The blonde feels a level of glee that she hadn't experienced since she was a young child by the water, dancing about with her older brother — Jace jokingly twirling her about the room so much she's dizzy.
Childlike laughter falls from her lips as the older Rogers sibling tries to show off his 'moves', almost as if he's the best dancer to ever grace the Earth. The girl has taken her shoes off now, dancing about more comfortably with a bunch of people she hardly know — this being something she never would have done before.
Her eyes fall on Katniss who seems almost hesitant to join in with any of the fun and nudges her brother in her direction — Jace is the best at getting people to do things, probably because he annoys them until they do it. Elena watches Katniss deny him for a few minutes before she gives in. Elena smiles and watches as Jace pulls the District Twelve girl onto the dance floor by her hand, twirling her without warning which in turn causes Katniss to stumble slightly.

"You look happy," Gale speaks as he moves to stand beside her.
"It's called having a good time, maybe you should try it out," Elena responds, watching as his lips twitch up at the slight attitude she's shown.
"Dance with me?"
She looks at his hand wearily before sighing and taking it. The girl looks up at the tall man, unable to figure out what he wants. The two dance with each other, awkwardly moving to the beat before they begin to become more comfortable with one another. Elena accidentally steps on his foot and snorts when he jumps, a chuckle falling from her lips at his reaction.
"You did that on purpose," He accuses.
"It's not my fault your feet were in the way," Elena shrugs.
"Look, I didn't pull you over here to argue. If anything, I want to apologise for what I said the other day about Peeta, I know it wasn't really fair of me,"
"You're right, it wasn't. He's been through more pain that most will experience in a lifetime,"
"I know, hence the apology,"
"Apology accepted then,"
The silence between them is deafening and Elena is forever grateful for her older brother who interrupts them, pulling her to dance with him instead. Katniss, now standing with Gale, watches the siblings as they jump about to the music.
"What was that about?" The brunette asks her best friend who looks at her in response.
"Just apologising for what I said the other day. We're good," Gale replies and Katniss nods her head.
Elena screeches as Jace dips her to the floor unexpectedly, a playful smile on his lips. When he brings her back up, she stomps down on his foot.
Later in the evening, when the festivities are all over, she sneaks away to the room where Peeta is being kept so she can see him before bed. When she enters, the boy has his eyes closed.
"Peeta?" Her voice is a whisper, just in case he is sleeping on the bed. His head turns towards her, smiling when he notices her. "Hey,"
"Hey, I didn't think you were going to turn up today," Peeta croaks.
"I told you I'd be here. I don't break my promises, especially with you," Elena walks over and sits beside him on the bed. "How was your day?"
"Good. They left me alone for the most part. The wedding?"
"Really good, Finn looked so happy,"
Peeta watches her face as it lights up and feels butterflies flutter within him, her happiness causing his own. He has yet to even look away from her yet, the orange dress that she wears drawing in his attention.
"You look beautiful," Peeta mumbles, a blush rising to her cheeks as she quietly thanks him. "I bet everyone was mesmerised by you,"
"You're such a sap," Elena jokes even though his words have her stomach doing flips. "I'm starting to think you compliment me just to get me to like you,"
"Well, it's worked for me so far,"
"I guess you're right,"
The two of them chat for a while before he moves over as much as he can, allowing her to lay down beside him. The blonde lays her head on his chest as he free arm wraps around her in response. Due to the silence of the room, Elena easily falls asleep to the sound of his heartbeat and the gentle strokes to her blonde locks. He follows closely after.
It doesn't take long for somebody to find them, her sibling opening the door almost frantically but calming when he sees their sleeping forms. She'd been missing for hours, this should've been the first place they looked.
Jace can't bring himself to wake her, switching the light off and closing the door — leaving the teenagers to sleep in the embrace of one another as if there was not a thing wrong in the world.
A happier chapter! Hope you enjoyed it!
