In a Twitter post, Dan stated that he intended the game's release to be on April 1, 2017, but he knew it was not ready and wanted to publish a complete product. He also stated that the game was born from his love-hate relationship with anime. In particular, he cited the "cute girls doing cute things" trope to be a double-edged sword.

Everyone knows how the general story is supposed to go. Basically, it’s one giant bloodbath waiting to happen. The MCs need to strengthen themselves, learn and adapt to their surroundings (which become more and more insane with each passing chapter), and eventually, hopefully, do something to stop the madness before the world’s destroyed in warfare.
