I called my mother, she picked up on the second ring.
"Hello."
"Hey Dri, you made it back safe?"
"Yes ma'am I'm actually on my way over to you. Just called to see if you're home."
"Yes, I'm home."
"Ok I'll see you when I get there."
"Ok baby."
"Aight." She ended the call. I had already called Raina as soon as I landed. I'm missing her already.
I decided on not returning my dads call, I don't want to talk to him over the phone. I need to face him, I sent a text to him. So we could meet up.
2:21pm
Me: I'm back in town where can we meet to talk?
I tossed my phone in the passenger seat and pulled out of the airport parking lot. The drive over I was thinking about him cheating on my mama. I started getting pissed off all over again.
Pulling up to the house my phone started buzzing. It was dad responding to my text.
2:53pm
Pops: I'm on my way to the house. We can talk there. You have time to stop by now?
2:54pm
Me: I'm here now, I just pulled up.
2:54pm
Pops: Ok.
I went to the door and walked inside looking around, everything was quiet and spotless.
"Mama where you at?"
"Mama, where you at?" I repeated walking in further.
"I'm right here Dri. I'm in the study." Her little voice called out.
When I got to her she was sitting in a chair by the lamp reading a book.
"Hey, What are you up to?"
"Nothing much just doing a little reading." She looked at me then turned a page. She was reading a woman's daily devotion book.
"You went to church today?" I asked.
"No, I decided to stay home this Sunday."
"Did you catch it live, I wasn't able to?"
"No." She simply stated. "How was your flight? How's Rai?"
"The flight was ok, a lot of turbulence. The weather was kind of bad in DC." I paused smiling a little, which made her finally look up at me. "Raina's good."
"You're blushing." A smile crept up on her face.
"I'm black mama, I don't blush." I chuckled.
"Whatever, everyone blushes. You can't even stop yourself from smiling, with your red face."

"I'm not pale like you, I don't turn red." I stated jokingly, knowing my pale ass was a shade or two lighter than her.
"Anyways." She giggled. "What's going on with you and Rai?"
I smirked, trying to hide my smile. "I love her and I was willing to do whatever it took to get her back."
"So did you get her back?" She inquired smiling.
"Yes and now she's stuck with me, because I'm not going anywhere this time."
"You just make sure you're good to her, —always." I caught a small glimpse of pain in my mamas eyes, this hurts me to my core.
"I will." I took this moment to look at my mama, she gave me a weak smile. She's stressed and exhausted. "I don't want to see her go through this so don't worry about that."
"Good." She stared at me before looking back down at the book.
There was a knock on the door. I'm assuming it was pops. My mama was about to get up to answer it but I gestured for her to sit back down.
"I'll get it. Pops said he was coming here. So I'm about to go talk to him."
"Ok. I'll be here finishing up my book."
"Ok, you want me to get you anything?" I asked her.
"No Dri I'm ok. You go ahead."
"You sure?"
"Yes, baby boy." She gave me a little smile.
I left the room and headed towards the front of the house. I peeped in one of the windows and saw it was him. He was seated on the step. I slowly opened the door.
"Your key doesn't work anymore?"
"I didn't want to just come inside." He replied not able to look a me.
"Why were you on your way over here when I text then?"
"I said I didn't want to just come in, I didn't say I wasn't going to try seeing her. I'm still trying to have a conversation with your mother. I've been giving her the space she asked for and I was coming here to see if she wanted to talk." He replied while still seated and I stood behind him at the door.
"You coming inside or you staying out here?"

"We can stay out here."
I closed the front door then stood leaning on one of the deck post. It was quiet for a moment.
"Ask me whatever you want to ask me Dri." He turned around a little sitting sideways still not able to look me in my eye.
"Ok, why you do this shit to my mama?" I asked easily.
He started shaking his head. "I don't know."
"Nah —Nah, —nope —you gotta tell me something other than that. Man to man look me in my eyes and say something. Why did you do this shit?" I asked a little louder.
He sat up straight and turned directly towards me. He looked up at me shaking his head while tears rolled slowly down his face.
"I'm sorry Jr. I love your mother, with everything in me. I fucked up." His lip started quivering, he continued to shake his head in disbelief. "I never deserved somebody like your mother."
"Nah this isn't gon' cut it. It's not good enough. How in the hell yo' old ass got a baby on the way? —Karmas a bitch, watch." I angrily spat. His tears don't phase me, so he can dry that shit up. I didn't come here for that.
I stood up straight, pissed off pinching the bridge of my nose trying to calm down. He was quiet so I spoke. "I don't want to be disrespectful to you, even though you clearly have been. So I'm going to need more time, because all my life I've been nothing but honest with you. No matter what it was. Even with some of the moments I'm not too proud of."
"Even with Rai, I kept it private in the beginning but when that shit went down with her I told you about her when you asked. I could've lied. I answered whatever you wanted to know." I added.
He remained quiet. So I continued.
"Melanie tried to get with me, you already know that. I told you about that and you know that's the reason why I had to let her go because she wouldn't stop. So now you're telling me, you— my dad has a baby on the way by the same chick who tried to get with me. Plus she fucked one of my friends."
"How many times y'all messed around?" I continued.
"You really want to have this conversation Dri-"
"You know what pops, tell me what you want me to know and then I'll just leave with that." I started losing my patience, and I began pacing back and forth. "You know what, never mind don't say shit."
I started walking down the steps passing him and headed straight to my truck.
"Dri, wait." He stood up dusting the back of his pants off walking over towards me.
I stopped.
"A week before we got our phone company switched over at the office is when she started coming on to me. She would flirt and say things. I brushed it off. Then it kept happening, that turned into her asking to join me for lunch. —We didn't just have lunch. And it was a few times. It started out with her pleasing me. Then it escalated over time."
"So that's why she was so nervous when I saw her on your level when I was leaving your office. She was speeding to get to the elevator." I said more to myself, putting the pieces together.
"Wait! So you mean to tell me, y'all had just got done fucking— when I came in your office? The same day I was telling you about me needing to break it off with Raina." I yelled.
He sighed. "Dri, look-"
"You're unbelievable, well congratulations on being a dad again old man. You knew that was the one thing mama always wanted, was more kids." I turned away from him and went to get in my truck.
I got out my phone and called my mama.
"Hello." She greeted me.
"Hey mama, I'll be back by tomorrow to check up on you. I need to get some air."
"He's still out there?"
"Yeah, I think he's trying to talk to you."
"Just tell him I need more time, I'm trying to deal with myself and my emotions right now. I don't feel like it today." Her voice shook.
"Ok, go ahead and get some rest. I'll tell him. Oh and we can watch the sermon online together tomorrow too."
"Ok Dri, I love you my sweet boy."
"I love you too."
We hung up and I relayed the message to my dad and waited until he left before I did.

This fiction belongs to the same universe as Ancient Blood. English is not my native language, so please don't be harsh. This story is an adaption of an idea, that we, a friend of mine and me, have developed over a few months while taking a break from learning. Some parts were written by Emberspark. Thank you for allowing me to work with your ideas and letting me publish this as a whole. Updates... I will try to frequently update both of my fictions... Well in case you are interested I post it on Scribble hub, too. I really don't steal from myself 😂

The Animo Saga
Before history was well-recorded in the world of Ulakam, primordial animal spirits adopted humans, provided protection and developed deep spiritual connections with them. Millennia later, humans now host animal spirits and are split into tribes named for the species they host. Ulakam is slowly being consumed by a decades-long war pitting the main tribes against the smaller tribes and a group of bandits calling themselves "the resistance". Callida Animo was born into this world. Coming from a mixed family of generational soldiers, Callida joined the family business at a young age. In her words, she was practically bred, born, and raised to be a soldier. And she's good at what she does... which inevitably attracts attention that makes her unambitious self extremely uncomfortable. Love, loss, influence and growth. This is her story. Written episodically, this story focuses on relationships and character growth through a series of mini-arcs that connect to make a greater whole. (Honestly, the story would lend itself well to a TV series.) "Episodes" range from 3-7 chapters (at least so far), and average about 4 or 5 chapters. Author's note: I'm always thrilled to receive comments, follows, ratings/reviews, messages.... All forms of feedback are welcome and encouraged. However, I have no interest in begging readers for more engagement to get better visibility. I tried that with my last story and found the game soul-sucking. So! This constitutes my only self-promotion request. If you are reading this story, let me know what you think! I love engaging with my readers. We'll see if growing the readership organically is even possible. Thank you! 😘 Release schedule: Weekly on Wednesday afternoons
