《The Luna's Awakening》Chapter 37

I remember hearing Lara's voice but I wasn't sure if it was in my dreams.

I slowly opened my eyes, squinting at the glaring, bright lights in the room.

I went to lift my hand to cover my eyes but felt something jingle at my wrist, holding my hand at my side in place.

I had restrains on both my wrists and ankles which held me to the bed I was laying on.

Oh that's right. I'm still here.

The memories of earlier started coming back to me. I had been brought into this room for further testing. I had almost managed to escape earlier but was then sedated by the Doc.

Fuck

How am I getting out of here?

I noticed one of my fingers, which has been cut off by the scientists when they were running tests on my ability to heal, had grown back and was almost back to normal. They wanted to see if I would grow it back and if so how long the process took. Luckily for me it was growing back and was nearly completely healed. I'd still have to be careful with it. There was also a faded scar running down my chest. It must be from their tests.

I went to look out the window when I noticed a large crack in the glass right in the middle.

That wasn't there before.

Was that from me when I had tried to escape?

Maybe

I shrugged it off for now.

The sound of the door clicking open caught my attention.

"You're finally awake. Your finger is healing marvellously! I'm impressed." The Doc said fascinated.

"Imagine the things we could do in the name of science... to be able to transfer those healing abilities to humans. Now that would make history!" She said excitedly as she examined a tube with contents inside.

"Humans weren't given these abilities for a reason. It goes against the laws of nature. Our healing powers are not designed to keep us alive for eternity only to heal."

"Yes that's right yours are not but imagine if we could recreate the youthful eternity vampires have. Imagine if we could use the supernatural's healing abilities to cure cancer or other life threatening illnesses. It would prevent our kind from being the weakest and level the battle field." She said.

She held up a small tube to me which I could tell was blood from the scent. "This is the key to evolution." Her glasses reflected the light from above and there was an eager, fascination behind them. Something that unnerved me.

She made her way to the door, "I'll be back to check on your progress."

The doors to the Headquarters swung open as the Doc walked in, the sound of her heels echoing around the room. The place was filled with Computers and cameras from all over the city. There were people at each station receiving orders.

The Doc walked up to the Commander. Who was at his desk working away with Lexi and Tyler, his two most trusted hunters.

"Commander Jackson. You requested my presence?" She greeted him politely.

"Yes Doc. How is the antidote coming together?" He said, his back facing her.

"It's going well but it's not ready yet for human use, we still need more tests for precautions. The blood from the Alpha is not meeting our requirements yet. I need more time." She replied.

"He's not doing well Doc. His condition is getting worse. I'm afraid we are running out of time. I need you to speed up the tests."

"Yes, sir. I shall start running tests for the antidote."

"I also heard there was an incident yesterday with the girl." He turned to face the Doc

"Yes, she was just trying to get to her mate and her wolf was very close to breaking free. She is much stronger and deadlier then we thought when it comes to her mate. They are both not doing well with being apart. Sir, maybe they would be more co operative if we had them together?"

He was quiet for a moment. "It's risky but if they are willing to cooperate and if it helps you with the antidote, then do it."

Commander Jackson sighed as he leaned against a table. "They don't seem to be like the other crazy lone wolves we've brought in in the past. These two seem more put together. They don't seem to have evil intentions as we thought most werewolves would. I've also been thinking about what the girl's been saying about the vampires. They seemed to have sniffed out our location and keep circling the area. And I'm afraid they maybe after the girl."

"But we have teams out there so they wouldn't come in, right?" The Doc asked trying to hid her concern.

"I hope so at this point. Our compound is well protected so they shouldn't be able to break through. But that girl is like a magnet for vampires and it's nothing like I've ever seen. We just need to hurry with the antidote because my father doesn't have long."

"Don't worry, I'm on it sir." She replied softy. Then, Jackson smiled and nodded at her in appreciation. She was thankful the room was dim or otherwise he'd notice her flushed cheeks.

And with that she left the room to follow through with her quest.

Once she was out the room she let out sighed as she tried to calm her rapid beating heart.

***********

I didn't know how long had gone by.

Two, three days?

I had been kept inside a room with all but a window giving me a view of the lab room. Where people constantly came in and out. The living conditions were manageable. The hunters made sure I was at full health.

Their leader Jackson came for regular visits and had allowed me to see Kian now as long as we continued to cooperate with their test.

Kian said that they seemed to be trying to make an 'antidote' from his blood. They seemed to be having some success apparently because the Doc seemed to be in a good mood recently.

Meanwhile they had just been running tests on my body to learn more about my abilities as a True Luna.

The Doc had mentioned that the vampires had been trying numerous times to come into the compound and so the hunters where on high alert.

I had tried to persuade Jackson to set Kian and I free because I knew that the vampires were after me and that I was the only one who could put an end to this. I even tried to convince him that we weren't a threat. But they said I was too valuable for them and that it was too risky.

So here I found myself laying in the bed with tubes connecting my body to a computer.

"How are you feeling Lara?" The Doc asked. She was always concerned at my health and state. She wanted me to be at full health for her tests.

"I'm fine as can be." I replied.

"Good." She turned to her assistant who was behind the computer so he could report to her the results.

"You're spectacular Lara. It's so fascinating how you're body works! You show me interesting results. Especially your brain activity." She leaned into the computer her eyes zeroing down at the image with interest.

"It's nothing like I've seen before. It's like you have something connected to your brain which is different to other wolves. The part of your brain that is connected to internal thoughts and controls your muscle movement is abnormally larger than anything I've ever seen."

It must be the True Luna who's voice I can hear.

I could tell she was struggling to connect the dots so I thought it was best to tell her. Something told me I could trust her.

The voice of the True Luna in my head said, hesitant.

It's ok, maybe she can help us. If we gain her trust she could help us escape. It's the only way.

She didn't reply and I felt her agree silently.

"It's because of the presence of the True Luna spirit in my mind... she is inside of me." I said to her. I watched as her eyes went from the computer to me. She made her way to me, interested in what I had to say.

"Are you saying you have a ... how do you say it- another voice in your head?" Her eyes were wide with curiosity as she came to stand by my said, while I laid on the bed.

"Yes."

"Fascinating! Can you tell me more Lara?" She said in a calming voice.

I continued to explain to the Doc about everything and she listened quietly as she noted stuff down.

"Well Thankyou Lara for your cooperation today. I really appreciate it. It helps us understand you more. If we know more about you, who knows maybe it will come in handy for you in the future if you ever need help." She said as she started to get up to leave. "Your free to leave." She said to me as she signalled at two of the hunter's who were keeping watch over me, in case I wanted to run away, that I was done and free to go back to my room.

I nodded at her as I unclipped the things that connected me to the computer.

"Can I ask you a question?" I asked before she left.

She stopped and turned around. "Yes" she nodded.

"You're using Kian's blood to make some sort of antidote? Is that right?" I asked sitting up and buttoning up the rest of my shirt.

"Yes, that's correct."

"What exactly is the antidote for?"

I saw her pause for a second before continuing, "It's for the Commander's father. He has a serious terminal illness and we are not sure how long he has left. The Commander is not taking it well as he is the only family he has left." There was a hint of empathy and sadness in the Docs eyes when she spoke about Jackson. I wondered if there could possibly be something more.

"Jackson wants to create an antidote from wolf blood that could help his father. He believes that the healing abilities your kind has could be transferable to humans and he's using his father as his first human trial."

I could feel myself starting to feel empathy towards Jackson. Maybe he wasn't so bad. He was just a man trying to save his father- the only family he had left.

I knew I would do the same in his position if it meant saving my parents.

"And how are the results looking from Kian's blood?" I asked, my throat feeling dry at the memory of my parents.

"The results are promising. Alpha blood has prove to me more effective than rogue or normal wolves. His father is showing signs of improvement, but at this point it's only temporary I'm afraid. It's only managing to slow down his illness- give him more time... nothing permanent."

"It would mean Jackson's father would be dependent on Alpha blood for the rest of his life." I said voicing the facts.

"Yes unfortunately. It's not something we want to happen which is why we are constantly trying to come up with new solutions."

I looked away from her as my thoughts ran wild.

I could save him. I was their solution.

I knew if they found out about the healing abilities my blood had it would solve their problem.

It would save Jackson's father.

It could be a ticket out of here.

But was I willing to give them information so powerful that who knows what they could make out of it or what they would do with me.

I think the Doc sensed my hesitance and distrust. "Lara I want you to understand not all hunters are bad people. Our organisation strives to protect the human community from dangerous supernaturals who are trying to hurt us. I know that out there not every hunter organisation thinks like us.

Some only see you as a threat and nothing more, they are the ones who have been trained to kill any supernatural on the spot with no mercy. But our organisation is not like that, we try do things different. The right way." She said calmly.

I turned to look at her. I could see deep down that she was telling the truth. Not all hunters were bad I had come to learn, obviously with a few exceptions. Like Tyler.

"In a way we are just like you Lara, we try to protect our kind."

I knew making me a True Luna meant I was a protector of all species even humans. It was my job to protect everyone of them from harm. It was a risk I was willing to take if it meant gaining their trust and saving Kian from being constantly needed for his blood. Maybe then they would set him free if they knew they didn't need him.

I went to open my mouth to tell her about my blood and that I was their solution when suddenly there was a load explosion nearby, shaking the entire building.

I grabbed onto the bed I was on for support, while the Doc fell onto the floor. The other two people in the room including the hunters keeping watch over me and the docs assistant fell to the floor or grabbed onto nearby furniture for support.

"What's happening?!" I shouted coughing and covering my mouth from the dust that fell from the roof.

One of the hunters walkie- talkies went off. A static sound going off. I used my wolf hearing to listen in.

A deep familiar voice rang through both the agents walkie- talkies. It was Tyler, the hunter who hated me.

"All Hunter agents listen up! Jackson has given me orders, we are under attack. The enemy is unclear. They released a bomb in the east wing and another in the west. Jackson thinks it's the vampires but we are still unsure. They have access into the building so all forces are needed. Protect the girl at all costs!" Then there was static sounds on the line.

Both the hunters turned to look at each other confused. A mix of emotions in their eyes. I could hear their hearts beating rapidly in fear and adrenaline.

Could it be Nick? Had my pack come to save me? Hope started to resurface at the thought of seeing them.

A part of me deep down I knew it couldn't be them. They wouldn't attack like this. My pack was more discreet.

For all I knew it could be any supernatural creature, even witches. I was on everyone's radar now.

The lights flickered on and off as the ground shook from explosions.

"What's happening?" The Doc shouted at the guards as she was on all fours on the ground trying to recover her papers that went everywhere.

One of the agents spoke up. "We are under attack and our orders are to protect the girl."

The other guy cocked his gun ready for action.

Fear flashed in the Doc's eyes. There was another loud explosion. This one seemed closer.

Someone let out a cry in the distance followed by more shouts and cries.

"We have to move her to her cell, we can't stay here! They will find us." The Doc shouted concerned.

"We haven't been given any order to mover her. It's too dangerous out there. We must stay here." The other hunter shouted, making his way to the door aiming his gun at the door protectively.

"She will be safer there. The glass cell is designed to be protected from the in inside and out."

I could tell the guards were hesitant and weren't sure whether to leave and risk something happening.

The Doc's assistant decided to make a run for it. One of the guards tried to stop him from going out but it was no use he was out the door in a flash. When the door opened as he ran out I saw smoke and bullets fly by and the sound of shouting rang.

There was hissing sounds. Then that familiar horrid smell hit my nose.

Vampires.

"It's vampires!" I shouted at them through the loud noise. All three of them looked at me then at each other.

It already wasn't a good sign if the vampires had their hands on weapons such as explosions. It had to mean this attack was planned and by someone advanced.

This situation wasn't looking good for all of us.
