《The Luna's Awakening》Chapter 35

I could sense we where closing in on the vampires fast. They where making a bee line straight in our direction just as we were. Alec and some of the wolves were following them and leading them our way.
I barked a command signal to Rick and Cody, who were running on either side of me and they split up going in different directions.
We started forming a large barrier so they wouldn't be able to get past us.
Kian sent Rosie and Ben off to the sides in case the vampires wanted to try get past us. Kian and Nick replaced their places, both males flanking me.
Nick's eyes had changed from blue to emerald green. He had a focused and determined stare.
I could smell them now.
The foul stench of burnt wood and smoke tingled me nose.
I let out a low menacing growl that seemed to echo through the woods.
The orange rays of the sun shined down on us giving us a clear sight of line thankfully.
Then I saw them. They came to a halt about 100 metres from us and so did we. They were three male vampires who wore dirty and ripped up clothing. They looked like lower class vampires. Probably sent to do the King's dirty work.
They looked at each other, a look that only they seemed to understand. They didn't look scared or intimidated. Rather they looked excited and bloody hungry. They grinned psychotically at us, like a murderer would before killing their victim. Baring their sharp fangs at us.
The one in the middle who looked like the oldest one with dark brown hair and specks of grey, nudged the vampires on either side of him. He looked me straight in the eyes as he spoke to them.
Although he was far, I could hear him with my super wolf hearing. I wasn't sure if the others could though. "Her. She's their leader. She's the one he's after." He pointed.
Kian growled menacingly, it was a warning growl as he took a couple steps closer to me. He must of got the hint of what the vampire said.
"You sure? How do we know?" Laughed the other one at Kian's threat.
"I can tell it's her. She's different to any other female wolf I've seen.. and killed." He said adding the last part as a joke. "She also bares the mark on her hip."
I snarled at him, baring my canine and flicking my tongue.
"Did you both already take the last bottles?" He asked
Both vampires nodded in reply.
"Good. I want her alive." He added before the other two nodded, smiling at each other. They sprinted forward with insane vampire speed.
I let out a low bark and snarl that resembled a battle cry as we rushed forward.
It all happened so fast. Like a sea of waves crashing against each other, we collided.
I targeted the the younger looking vampire who lunged at me first.
The sounds of snarls teeth snapping, growling and hissing filled the air.
Nick and Cody took on the tall lanky one. While the other focused on the others.
'Something's up with these vampire's. They are unusually strong and fast.' Cody one of the warriors grunted as he mind linked me. I watched as his jaw missed the vampire's neck as the vampire dodged him and instead flung Cody through the air and against a tree, like a rag doll.
Cody let out a yelp.
'Cody!' I shouted.
'I'm fine.' He reassured me, shaking his head as he stumbled back up.

The vampire was too distracted that he didn't see Rick leap on to his back and rip into him savagely. He let out a blood curdling scream before turning into ash.
Rosie and Ben where helping Kian out with the second vampire.
I watched the fight around me. Flashes of what had happened a few seconds ago flashed in my mind as I tried to connect the pieces.
"Did you take the bottles?" The vampires nodding in response.
I blinked the memories away.
They must have taken some sort of drug or enhancer before hand which has made them stronger.
I notice sudden movement from my peripheral vision. It was the older vampire coming at me. He probably though he could catch me off guard.
'Lara watch out!-' Nick shouted, but I already was onto it.
My ears flicked back as I crouched and leaped into the air letting out a predatory snarl. The vampire must have not been expecting it because I saw the flash of fear in his eyes as I pounced onto him. I pinned him down with my body jaws snapping mere inches from his face threateningly.
I noticed Kian and his pack members had finished off the other remaining vampire they were fighting. It was just this one left.
I could feel my wolf angry and wanting to rip into the vampires throat but I needed answers. I shifted back to my human form, still hovering over his body, pinning him down.
"Why did you come!" I ordered him shoving him harder onto the ground as I kept a hand around his neck. My claws digging into his skin.He struggled to break free but he was too weak against my True Luna strength, I guess whatever her took must of wore off.
He let out a gurgled laugh in amusement but I cut him off by squeezing my grip around his neck, causing him to cough.
"He sent us. He wanted us to bring you in. After all there is a heavy price on your head in the vampire community." The vampire replied weakly. His toe was harsh and cold but I could see the fear of death in his eyes.
"Price?" I questioned urging him to continue.
"Any vampire who brings you in alive, gets rewarded with riches. Enough to keep a vampire like me living like a king for the rest of my life." He groaned.
Of course the Eric Northman had put a price on my. He wanted other to do the work for him.
"You took something earlier which made you stronger. What was it?" I growled, but the vampire didn't speak.
"Answer me!" I snarled lifting him and shoving him again harder into the ground. He grunted and groaned in pain.
"Wolf Blood." He choked out.
My body froze. A shiver went up my spine. Were there wolves working for him? I had to know
"Where did you get it from?" I said in a low menacing tone.
"The king he gave them to us. He keeps wolves locked up for their blood."
My head was spinning and my body tingled with anger, confusion and worry.
The vampire spat on my face and chuckled. This only seemed to fuel my now raging anger.
I felt my hand, which had a hold on the vampires neck, begin to get hot. My Luna eyes began to glowed bright ember.
I felt the True Luna spirit taking over my body. She was taking control. I felt like I was being pulled back into the back of my mind and watching myself from within my body.

The vampire began to squirm in pain from the heat coming from my hand.
It was one of my True Luna powers. Fire
Soon enough my whole hand was enveloped in a flickering flame and the vampire screamed. It didn't burn my hand it's only felt hot but it was manageable.
He struggled under her grip. "You will get your punishment." whispered the True Luna as she burned the vampire alive. His screams cutting off as his body burned but surprisingly didn't turn to ash, it just continued to burn.
What are you doing? I asked.
I stood there in shock as I watched him burn.
She showed me flashes of images which seemed to be from this vampire's life. All the images were dark and violent. She was right, he did deserve this. That way he wouldn't hurt anyone again.
We all stood around the burning body in our human form. I felt myself slowly gain control of my own body again as the True Luna retreated back into the darkness of my mind, watching and listening.
I glanced at Kian and was surprised to seem him observing me. There was a strange look in his eyes. The reflections of the flames dance in his eyes making him more mysterious and dangerously attractive. He seemed to sense something was up and that that was not me.
•
"Lara. Are you alright." Nick said as he came up to me. We where walking to the library where Colleen was after she came back from seeing other witches from her Covern.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Why?" I replied confused.
"It's just I've never seen you act like that before, like you did with that vampire. It was so animalistic. It was as if something took over you.." For some reason this made me angry. I guess He seemed to be voicing my fears after what happened earlier and that made me feel even more anxious on more on edge.
"I'm fine, Nick. Drop it." I snapped. He seemed to flinch at my response, taken a back by my bluntness and I immediately felt guilty.
Stop it Lara, you can take your edge out on him.
I stopped walking and let out a sigh. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be so harsh,"
He looked away. His lips forming a thin line, his jaw twitching, clearly annoyed now.
"It's just that I have a lot on my mind right now. Please understand." I said more sympathetically.
He nodded. "Yeah I understand, don't worry. Forget I asked." he said walking ahead of me and opening the doors to the library. I let out a sigh, frustrated at him. God why did he have to be so frustrating sometimes.
Colleen was wearing her thin rectangle glasses that sat at the tip of her nose. She seemed to be in the middle of something as she rummaged through the pile of notes and scribbles in front of her. She glanced up as Nick and I walked in.
"Ahh I'd heard some blood suckers had made gotten through the boarders. I'm glad everything is okay though. Good to hear that Kian and his pack were able to help."
She must of seen the look of concern on my face because she paused and took off her glasses, folding them and storing them away in one of her pockets.
"What is it Lara, dear, everything ok?"
"The vampires that came onto the territory had wolf blood in their system. It made them stronger then usual."
Colleen's brows furrowed as it formed creases of concern and confusion. Her gazed wondered in thought before returning back to me. "Wolf blood?"
I began instinctively pacing the room, back and forth, while Nick casually lent against one of the tables, crossing his arms. "Yes. I'm afraid it's much more serious because according to one of the vampire's, Eric Northman has wolves locked up and used as blood bags. What concerns me most is that some of them may from our very own pack, as well as from other packs."
"What makes you say this?" Nick asked curiously, an eyebrow rising in concern.
"Well think about, in the past when we had Eleanor as Luna, we had several cases were wolves on patrol or that had left the territory had gone missing and were just presumed dead, but there were never any bodies found." I watched as Colleen took the information in.
She hummed in agreement. "Yes, that does seem to put pieces in place."
We all turned to the sound of the doors opening as Rick walked in. "Yes kiddo, I'm afraid that you're probably right." He said sadly.
He took seat on the couch in the middle of the room. I looked at him sensing that he was going to elaborate. He look ahead as he seemed to explain the memory he was reliving. "A while back when I was doing rounds, I over heard a conversation between Eleanor and Stephan. She mentioned something about a deal with the Vampire King and some of the missing wolves."
"You think it was her idea, she was helping Eric?" I wouldn't put it past her.
Rick nodded,"I mean it all seems to add up. Every time there was a missing person she would never push to find out what happened she would just leave it or come up with an excuse."
"But how would they get past the boarders? Wouldn't the patrol team be notified. We would know about it?" Nick said confused.
Rick shrugged, "I wouldn't be surprised if Eleanor helped let them in and cover their tracks. It didn't happen often so no one ever really said anything, and I mean most people were to scared to even question her."
He was right.
I didn't want to be that kind of leader. I was going to make this right.
"Well now we know that Eleanor was behind this and was helping the vampire king, which means we need to fix this. We will make a plan and send a rescue team with the help of other packs but first we need to find the exact location of Eric Northman's hide out."
I looked at the clock on the wall and it read 7:26.
"Oh shoot I have to go. I'd told Kian I'd meet up with him at 7:30."
I saw a muscle in Nick's jaw jump as he looked away trying to look like he didn't care.
"Oh that's alright dear. I think we've said everything that needs to be discussed." Colleen said popping her glasses back on.
"Yeah, I gotta head off to the gym and check out how the training is going." Rick said getting up from the couch.
I nodded before disappearing through the doors.
•
It was 7:30. I had agreed to meet Kian at the front of the pack house for our hang out. He said he had to tell me something and that he rather tell me alone, which made me curious of what it might be.
I slipped my jacket on as I walked through the front doors. The cold gust of wind hitting my face. Kian was already here. His back was facing me but at the sound of the doors opening he turn.
He was wearing black jeans, a white shirt and a green button up jacket.
"How did it go, your meeting with, Colleen?" He ask as we made our way down the stairs towards the large garden area.
"There's a few things that we had to discus regarding what the vampire mentioned earlier about wolves being kept locked up for their blood."
"Yeah. I've gotta be honest I respect the way you dealt with that vampire. It was interesting to watch you use your powers on him." I noticed him glance at my reaction through the corner of my eye.
I hugged my shoulders as I rubbed my arms from the chills that pricked my skin. I wasn't sure if it was from the thought of what happened earlier or from the cold.
"Yeah, honestly I was surprised too, it kinda happened instinctively. My True Luna spirit took over my body." Literally.
I turned to look at him from the side. His sharp jaw line, was tense and his eyes had a cloud of mixed emotions, worry, concern, fear?
"I saw you, Lara. That wasn't you." I frozen in my tracks, taken aback by his words. I didn't know how to respond. How the hell was he so observant?
"I- wha-what do you mean?" I stuttered, unsure why I suddenly felt nervous.
He stopped and turned to face me. His gaze unwavering from my face, as if he was studying my reaction. I was caught in the trance of his icy blue eyes. His gaze was sharp, unwavering yet he appeared calm and collected but I could tell he was hiding something.
"I came out here because there's something you should know about before you go after the Vampire King and do what it is you were chosen to do as a True Luna."
We were standing in the middle of the garden area close to the water fountain now. We were alone, there was no one outside.
I had a bad feeling about what he was going to say. I tried to maintain my cool and calm composure.
"Just know that the reason why I'm about to tell you this is because you are my mate and it is my job to protect you and keep you safe... I don't want to loose you." He said the last part so quietly I almost believed he was talking to himself.
"What is it Kian? Your making me anxious." I said, shifting weight to my right leg and crossing my arms over my chest.
"It's been written in history that once a True Luna completes her purpose on Earth the True Luna is no longer needed.." He looked away before looking back at me, unsure how to continue.
I gave him the look that said continue with what your about to say.
"..which means the spirit of the True Luna leaves her body, killing the body in the process."
My breath caught in my throat as I stood there in place, frozen in shock and unable to comprehend. I felt like my body was trying to suck in air but it was as if my throat was closed.
I was brought back by the sound of Kian's concerned voice, "Lara?"
I blinked several times and shook my head trying to come back to my senses.
"You're lying." I said in a voice that sounded colder then I expected.
"Lara I'm not. Trust me I wouldn't joke about something like this either. The day of the coronation ceremony, my father told me. After you passed out I went to talk to the witch Colleen and she confirmed it was true."
He must of seen my confused reaction. "Lara listen-" He took a step closer towards me but I moved back waving him off.
"Don't" My voice was low and threateningly. He didn't continue to move closer.
"Lara listen, you can't go through with this, there has to be another way that doesn't result in the spirit killing you. I know what I'm asking for is a lot but as your mate if have the right. I only just recently found you after searching for two years and nearly giving up, I can't loose you now." He sounded pleading but I couldn't seem to taking in what he was saying, I was still in shock.
Why did I always have to get dropped with bomb shells like this?
We were quiet for a moment.
"Talk to me. What are you thinking?" he said quietly. If I weren't in this situation I would have melted into his arms but right now my head was out of it.
"Why didn't anybody tell me earlier? Why didn't Colleen tell me before?" I asked more to myself. I was starting to get mad and frustrated by the minute. I was hurt she hadn't mentioned something so important like this to me.
"I don't know." He said softly. I had to go find her.
I started taking a few steps back in the direction where we came from. "I have to go."
"Wait I'll come with you." He said following me.
"No. I need to talk to her alone. I'll find you later." and with that I walked back to the main building, to the library.
'Spirit, is it true?' I asked summoning the True Luna spirit.
She responded sadly.
Why couldn't I just have a normal life. Why did I have to be the chosen one out of all people.
I pushed open the doors to the library, slightly harder than I expected.
Colleen was sitting at a desk with her glasses on as she read a thick book. She looked up startled.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I couldn't control the anger that flowed through my tone like a low growl.
There was confusion in her expression but then I saw her eyes widen slightly in realization.
She stood up, making her way towards me. "Oh, dear, I was waiting for the right time. I didn't want to bombard you with bomb shells. You're still learning and adjusting to you new life." Her voice was soft and tender. She approached me the same way someone would approach a frightened animal that was ready to attack. With caution.
I took deep breaths to calm my anger and stop my wolf from threatening to come out. I could feel it close to the surface.
Violence wasn't going to get me anywhere. I had to be calm and rational. I had to listen to what she had to say.
I crossed my arms. "So what? You were going to wait till I'd already killed Eric?" I snapped.
