《The Luna's Awakening》Chapter 13

I didn't know where I was going but all I wanted was to get away from that house. I wanted to get away from everything. All the secrets.

Just when I thought all the secrets had been revealed another one explodes in my face. Was my whole life a lie?

I had only recently found out that my real mother was Rosalyn, the Luna's sister and that I was the Last True Luna, a rare wolf with abilities. I had been so wrapped up in all that that I hadn't even though about who my real father might be. I thought he might have been dead like my mother but no. My real father had been under my nose this whole time. He was the strongest pack fighter.

My father was Rick. The one who taught me how to throw my first punch. The one who would listen and comfort me when I felt down. The one who knew me like the back of his hand.

We didn't really look similar, I guess I took after my mother.

He knew. This whole time he knew!

It felt like I had a sharp blade in my stomach and it was carving out all my insides trying to cut a hole in me.

My parents must have known too, yet they kept it a secret? Was that why he was always around?

I felt hot tears burning my eyes as I sprinted through the silent night. My throat was stinging from panting as the cold air whipped past me blowing my dark hair back.

I felt like I had been running for hours but it was probably 30 minutes. I turned the corner when I saw a reserve which I knew would lead to the Forrest.

"Lara!...where are you going? Lara stop running away" I heard a voice yell from a distance. I turned my head slightly to catch a glimpse of Nick's tall, slender body sprinting behind me to catch up

Urghh No!

Why was he following me? Didn't he understand that I wanted to be alone?

"Go away! Leave me alone." I shouted back as loud as I could but it sounded weak through my tears.

"Don't make me chase you and tackle you" I heard him yell.

I felt a small shiver run down my spine but I wasn't sure if it was the cold or him close behind.

As I ran past the tall, dark trees trying to lose him, I risked taking another glimpse behind me and saw him much closer then before and his eyes where no longer the blue ones of his wolf, they were glowing green now. He was using his protector speed. Damn it! Why won't he listen.

Before I knew it I lunged into the air and felt my bones crack as I shifted into my wolf form and landed gracefully on all fours on the soft dirt.

"God Damn it Lara!" I heard him mutter frustrated under his breath.

Without looking back I ran using my Luna speed this time as I zoomed passed the trees in my large form, covering more ground.

But it wasn't long till I heard a low, deep, menacing growl echo through the trees and being carried by the wind.

I slowed slightly as my ears twitches back and forth scanning my surroundings.

'I told you to stop!' Nick spoke through mind link sounding frustrated.

'No I already told you to leave me alone! I don't want to be near anybody.' I shouted back.

'I am your Protector whether you like it or not and I will never leave you alone. I need to be there to protect you.'

I couldn't help the little dance my heart did at his words but I tried to push the feeling away.

But I didn't stop running.

It felt good to finally run freely through the woods and I could feel my wolf's excitement grow from Nick chasing us.

I knew Nick was close now because I could smell his sent and it was getting stronger.

Before I could try and lose him a large dark figure suddenly lunged at me from my left side, colliding into me and making me roll and tumble down a small hill. I felt a yelp escaped my throat.

When I tried to get up Nick's wolf form was standing above me, pinning me down. I growled and snapped at him in a threatening way not really intending to injure him, only to scare him as I tried to push him off me.

'Lara stop. Calm down.' He said as he held my wiggling body down.

But I didn't, I refused to let him pin me down.

'Look at me'. I refused to look at him as I continued struggling under his hold.

'Lara look at me'

He said calmly, the last part quietly more like a desperate plead.

When my eyes met his wolf's blue eyes looking down at me, I stopped struggling and concentrated on my breathing trying to calm down. Somehow Nick made my wolf and I feel safe. It was a feeling I missed when he left.

After a few seconds I let me bones shift back into place. I laid naked under his large grey and white wolf's form and began to let the last of my few tears fall as I cried.

I was taken aback when his wolf started licking my face whipping the tears away. His tail wagging and ears pinned back in a submissive gesture. I tried pushing him away but I couldn't help let out a small giggle when he wouldn't stop.

He resembled a dog trying to comfort his owner as he wagged his tail. I was glad it was dark outside. I heard Nick changing into his human form, he was in the same clothes as he was before he shifted.

He sat in front of me, one arm up on his bent knee while his other leg laid flat. He looked so boyish.

Even though it was dark he kept his eyes on my face

A few seconds later he stood up and took his hoodie off in one swift motion, exposing he v-line. "W-what are you doing?" I said suddenly nervous. But my question was answered when he threw his hoodie and it landed in my lap

"Its quite chilling out here, wouldn't wanna catch a cold." He said jokingly, as he turned around to face the opposite direction. Wolves don't catch colds.

I tried to stop my gaze from wondering up and down Nicks tone back, but I failed.

It was dark but I was still able to see thanks to the little bit of light from the moon. He had definitely become more toned and gained muscle which I guess was from the training he had mentioned. We wasn't buff more like a lean toned look.

I noticed he had a small tattoo of a shield and two swords in a X position on his left hip. It was really beautiful. It looked strangely familiar but where had I seen it before?

I inhaled sharply and I remembered.

"That tattoo, it's the same one Rick has on his hip, how come you have it too?"

"It's a Protector

Tattoo. I received it the night your True Luna awoke."

"Why does Rick have it then?"

Even though he was facing the other way I could tell he was deep in thought.

"I think it would be best if he explained to you."

Was Rick a Protector?

Was that why he always tried to cover his tattoo?

No it couldn't be true.

I shook my head to get rid of all questions and slid the large white shirt on. It was a soft, thick material that smelt like Nick and it fell half way down my thigh. Even though it was white it wasn't see through because the material was thick.

"It's ok, it's safe to look." When he turned around his eyes seemed to widened slightly. His eyes trailed my body making me wrap my arms around myself self consciously and look away from him. It felt like he's gaze left a burning trail.

"Uh well should we head back?" He said lost of words.

"No!" I said a bit too loudly.

"Please no. I don't wanna go back to Colleen's house. Not right now."

"OK then... in that case how bout we go to mine?" He suggested. "Its not far from here. I'm guessing you don't really have anywhere to sleep so you can stay, since I have to watch over you anyway." He said winking. I rolled my eyes.

"But don't you live close to the pack?" I suddenly remembered.

"Na, I live on my own now. My house is closer to the pack borders then the pack house, so you'll be further away. They won't look for you there".

I though about it for a second. I wasn't sure if I should stay in a house alone with Nick but I sure as hell didn't want to go back to Colleen's house and face Rick. At least not right now so Nick's house will have to do for tonight. Deep down I knew that I wanted to stay with him because he makes me feel safe, but of course I didn't want him knowing that so I pretended to think about it.

"I mean after all Colleen did say it was best for you to stay at mine for the time being." He said trying to convince me.

"Ok fine" I said pretending to be convinced.

I saw that small twitch on the side of his mouth he made as he tried to hid his smile.

"Race you there." He challenged and with that he disappeared into the night, swallowed by the shadows and me close behind his trail.
