《Philocaly | DNF》9 - denial

"What's her name?" Sapnap asked from the backseat, poking his head over Dreams seat.
"I don't know. She hasn't texted me yet."
"Shes working." George reminded them, shooting a glare.
Dream tucked his phone away into his pocket with a sigh, then grabbed his keys from his other one.
"This was a stupid idea anyways, Sapnap. She's not going to want your number, so what's the point anyways?" Dream scoffed, followed by a laughter from George.
Sapnap scoffed right back at him.
"Well.. she seemed pretty interested in you. You should go for it."
George froze, Dream shooting his head to the side of his seat, peering back at a grinning Sapnap.
He thought for a second. Maybe Sapnap had finally came up with a great idea without knowing it.
Dream had already been feeling strange around George, containing a different type of feel for him.
He desperately wanted it to stop. George is his best friend. Nothing more, and they never would've been something more.
If talking to Annie would change his views and feelings, he would be open to it.
However, life isn't that simple or easy. Feelings can't fade with a snap of fingers.
Deep into thought, he felt a hand slap his shoulder.
"Earth to Dream?" Sapnap muttered, annoyance in his voice.
Dream nodded, blinking.
Without answering, he started quietly backing out of the restaurants parking lot.
Once they had arrived home, the boys went inside.
It was still light outside because it was only 3pm, but they hadn't planned to do anything else that day.
Dream and George persuaded Sapnap that they should just chill for the rest of the day since George had a stream.
As George was streaming an individual challenge video upstairs, Sapnap and Dream sat on the couch downstairs, already in pajamas, watching some comedy.

They sat in silence for awhile until Sapnap spoke.
"So.."
Dream glanced at Sapnap, focusing back onto the movie.
"Are you going to text the waitress girl?"
"Nick, will you shut up about it. The dare was to get her number, nothing else. I don't need to text her."
"Isn't that leading her on, then?"
Dream shot Sapnap a snarled glare.
"You're an idiot."
"And you're in denial."
Silence fell upon the two, Sapnap smirking and popping a popcorn kernel into his mouth.
Slowly, Dreams head spun to face Sapnap.
"In denial of what?"
"We both know exactly what I'm talking about, but I don't want to be wrong."
"You probably are wrong, Nick."
"You think I'm stupid?"
When Dream didn't answer, Sapnap reached over to grab the remote. He pressed the off switch, setting his bowl of popcorn on the coffee table.
He then folded his hands, turning his body fully to face Dream.
"Yeah," was Dreams reply.
"I saw your hand. At the theater. I was going to ask about it after the movie but George was always standing.. too close."
Dream soon stood up in front of him.
"Sapnap, now I know exactly what you're thinking. And you're wrong. He just seemed really nervous so I.."
"Pfft."
Dreams eyebrow rose, as he crossed his arms.
"Why do you think he was nervous, genius? He's nervous around you."
"No, no. We literally just met in real life yesterday. That's why. He's around a different setting, different people. If I were in his shoes I'd be nervous too."
Sapnap then stood up right in front of Dream, but looked up at him because of the height difference.
"Plus, if this is what you actually think, why are you encouraging me to text this girl?"

Sapnap then smiled. "I hoped you'd bring that up."
"But why?"
"Because, I needed my answers. I have them now. Now I know why you won't text her."
He then poked at Dreams chest.
"Your feelings belong to someone else. And he just happens to be right upstairs."
Dream shoved him away as he finished speaking. He bit his lip, eyeing his phone face planted on the couch.
"You're wrong, Sippy cup."
Dream scooped up his phone, went straight to the waitresses contact and texted a simple, 'hey.'
He then smirked at Sapnap, shutting off his phone and tossing it back on the couch.
Sapnap placed a hand on Dreams shoulder.
"You are so fucking dense."
———
George had finally finished his stream, wiping his forehead and scooping off his headphones. He slouched down in his chair, as a knock appeared at the door.
"Yeah?!" He called.
The door swung open, Dream standing there with a slight smile.
"Hey, George. I wanted to apologize."
"For..?"
"For.. doing that at the movies. If it made you uncomfortable-"
"Dream, it's fine. It actually quite calmed me down."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
The boys then stared at each other for a moment.
"Uh.. if you don't mind me asking, what were you upset about?"
This is the question George was praying Dream wouldn't ask.
"I.."
He didn't know if he should've lied or told the truth.
"Just family stuff. I'm also quite homesick," he replied, rubbing the back of his neck."
"Oh.. well I wanted to tell you that you can talk to me. If anything is every bothering you."
George nodded, as if telling him he knew that.
As Dream began to walk out, George muttered, "hey, Clay?"
Dream whipped his body around and leaned on the door frame, running a hand through his hair.
"Yeah?"
"Thanks. I mean.. thank you."
Dream smiled, glancing at Patches, who was curled up on George's bed.
"She likes your room more than mine. Can't blame her though, my room is always too warm."
"I mean if you wanna be cold, you could always sleep in here with us."
George froze after saying those exact words.
Why the fuck did I just say that?
He received a laugh in response.
George forced a laugh back.
"I'll keep that in mind."
