《Kakashi The Hunter》Part X Five

Kakashi pov.
We were all ushered off the blimp. "This is the third phase of this year's Hunter Exams. Your task is to make it to the bottom of Trick Tower in 72 hours. If you fail, you will be disqualified."
And with that short announcement Netero and Bean left on the Blimp. One guy tried to climb down the side but a giant ugly bird thing ate him. I chuckled. Dumbass. People started walking around looking for an entrance, some people were smart enough to find one, and some people found some accidentally. Gon and Killua managed to find five spots to enter. Gon, Killua, Kurapika, Leorio, and I all got ready to jump down. "Remember if one of us gets a trap, no hard feelings."
All four of them jump down, and right as I'm about to, Tompa pushes me away and goes down himself. "Hey, Asshole! I was about t-- whatever. It's useless now." I sighed. Well, now I have to find another entrance. Hopefully, I'll be alone. I work best when I'm by myself. S-Rank solo missions as an ANBU will do that to you.
As I was looking around the ground, I hit one. The floor flipped out from under me. My first instinct is to Chakra walk, so I do. The room was dark but there was a single torch on the wall and a door on the other side of the room. Standing in the middle of the room was that Hisoka Clown guy. He had a sadistic smirk on his face. He was shuffling a deck of cards.
I let myself drop to the ground. "Hello, Number 40 and Number 44. This is your examiner Lippo, I run the prison here in Trick Tower. To leave this phase you will each go through a room that will alternate through some of your deepest memories. You will be alternating who goes to every room, and the one who will not be seeing their memory will have to watch the other. They will be super realistic holograms, so they cannot hurt you and you cannot stop them. If you forfeit you will get a strike. More than three strikes and you will be disqualified. Any questions?"
"If we get three strikes we'll be safe?~" "Yes, but any more than that you will be disqualified. When the door opens you may begin." Hisoka walked to the door, and I was hesitant to follow. "You will go first~" No room to argue is there? Nope. "Whatever." The door beeped and slid up into the wall. I walked in first.
"Now then, Number 40 is going first. Number 44, if you will stand in the far corner of the room. A glass wall will separate the room. You will still see and hear everything." Hisoka obeyed and the wall fell from the ceiling. "We will begin in 3...2...1..."
A young Kakashi walked through the Village Hidden in the Leaves. On his way home from training, Guy dragged him into. Whispers were thrown around, fingers pointed towards him. Kakashi knew what they were about. His father had recently taken a mission to collect information in another village.
His father chose to save his team over the mission. It's been the talk around town for weeks now. Kakashi didn't know why saving them wasn't as important as the mission, but even the lives he saved have turned against him. So by the time Kakashi makes it home it's already dark.
As Kakashi was about to open the door, a young Guy runs up to him. "Kakashi! My eternal rival, I challenge you to a duel! The first one to make it home wins!" Young Kakashi raised an eyebrow. "You do know I'm right in front of my house correct? There is no doubt about it, I'll win."

Guy faltered."Oh, I guess you're right. But tomorrow, I'll challenge you again!" Guy ran off again. Kakashi rolled his eyes. A storm was starting up and it started to rain. Thunder boomed behind him as he opened the door. "Father! I'm home from training!" No reply. Kakashi took his sandals off and set them aside. As well as his ninja pouch, and scarf.
"Father? Are you home?" Kakashi looked into his father's bedroom, thinking that he might be asleep. No one was there. The last room was his father's study. It's soundproof so maybe he would be in there. Yes, he was in there alright.
Laying on the floor surrounded in his own blood lay Sakumo Hatake. A Kunai in his heart. Kakashi stood above his father's corpse as lightning flashed through the window. Showing his father's face. A smile. His father died with A smile.
Kakashi Hatake found his own father's suicide. The Hokage was alerted, and the funeral was the next week.
Kakashi was the only one present. His father's name was engraved into its own stone beside the many other graves of fallen Shinobi. Day by day new graffiti would cover the stone and Kakashi would clean it off. Gradually Kakashi stopped coming. The graffiti stayed, and his father's name was a forgotten subject in the streets.
I sighed. They had to start with that huh. Well, it's only going to get worse from here on out. The glass rose and Hisoka stepped out, the same expression as before. "Well, that was interesting~ hope that's not the only memory I'll actually enjoy.~" I chuckled. "Oh please, that doesn't even scratch the surface."
Hisoka stepped to the center of the room and the glass slid down around me.
"I forfeit.~"
I just stared at him with narrowed eyes. Did this bitch just do what I think he just did?
The glass rose and Hisoka walked in next to me. "You better go, the memory won't start unless you're out there. Oh, and don't even think about forfeiting~ if you do then I'll simply kill you!" I rolled my eye. Like that would happen. These people don't have chakra, I do.
I walked to the center and waited again.
A thirteen-year-old Kakashi ran across the trees with his team. "Alright guys, we're going to stop here and split up. Kakashi, your the mission leader today, you know that. I'm going to do my part meet back here in an hour." A young Blonde stated. He's their sensei, Minato Namikaze.
Kakashi and his team ran until they reached an area Kakashi could feel people hiding in. Five men jumped out, and Kakashi and his male teammate, Obito Uchiha, started defending. Kakashi was doing well until a sword got through his defenses. It sliced straight down his left eye. There was a scream and by the time both boys had turned to it, they just managed a glimpse of another enemy shunshining away with their only female teammate, Rin Nohara.
"Rin! Kakashi we have to go save her!" Kakashi finished off the men that were fighting him. "No, Obito. We have to finish the mission. Then we can go save Rin." Obito stared wide-eyed. "So your just gonna risk Rins' life for the sake of a mission?!" "Yes. The mission always comes first Obito. It's the first thing taught in the academy."
Obito looked at the ground, his hair and goggles covering his eyes. Suddenly he turned and shoved a Kunai through an invisible ninjas heart. When he looked back up, his eyes held the spinning Sharingan. "I'm saving Rin." He turned to run but Kakashi grabbed his wrist. "I m the team leader! You follow my orders and I order you to complete the mission!"

"Those who break the rules are scum. But those who abandon their comrades are even worse than scum. " Obito ripped his hand out of Kakashi's grip and ran in the opposite direction.
Kakashi scoffed and ran the correct way. But halfway he decided against it. Following the traces of chakra Obito left behind he was led to a cave. Three dead bodies were on the ground and there was a struggling Obito in the middle. "DUCK!!" Obito bent his torso down and Kakashi swiped his father's tanto across the ninja's chest.
Rin was sitting in the corner, in a Genjustu. Kakashi released it, and Rin came back to her senses just in time for the ninja Kakashi slashed to perform a justu. Kakashi threw a Kunai but it didn't reach in time. The cave started collapsing. Kakashi, Rin, and Obito all ran out of the cave. Kakashi has a blind spot now, and a rock knocked him out for a couple of seconds.
Obito noticed and ran back to help him. Seconds before a boulder fell on Obito, he threw Kakashi away from him. Kakashi came to after he was thrown and witnessed the giant rock crush Obito. The falling rocks stopped for the time being and both Kakashi and Rin ran to their fallen teammate.
Kakashi tried with all his might to push the boulder off Obito, but it was no use. "Bakashi stop. Just stop it's no use." Kakashi fell to his knees beside his best friend. "Why? Why did you sacrifice yourself for me?" "I know a gift to give you for your promotion Bakashi." "What Obito?" "My Sharingan. Take it. Rin can do the surgery here." Rin got busy implanting Obitos' eye into Kakashi's slashed eye socket.
As soon as she was done the cave started rumbling again. Tears escaped Kakashi's eyes. First his father, now his teammate and best friend. "Go, Bakashi. Get out of here. Protect Rin. Rin, I love you. Go." Rin started crying at that Kakashi had to drag her out of the cave. They both watched as the rocks completely crushed the Uchiha.
They met back up with their sensei who realized immediately something bad had happened.
Months later, Kakashi pushed his Chidori strait through Rin Noharas' heart. And years after that, he would find his sensei and his wife's dead bodies, in front of Naruto Uzumaki, their son.
Memory~ Complete.
I sigh once again. No tears fall from my eyes. Obito's not dead, I had a chance to say goodbye to sensei, Rin is still a sore topic but I no longer shed tears for her. Hisoka has a slightly more sadistic smile on his face, but if I could see his memories I probably would too. We switched places and once again, he forfeits.
Now it's my turn again and I have a pretty good idea of what's going to show up.
I could only sit paralyzed as Madara one by one, killed my students. First I lose Obito then Rin And Minato-Sensei. Then Obito turns up alive and allying with the enemy. All the people I become close to always end up dead, it's the Kakashi curse as I like to call it.
Tears stream down my unmasked face as Sasuke is pierced through the heart by his own sword. I let out a scream as Sakuras' sliced through the middle, her seal no longer working. And I completely lose it when Kurama is extracted slowly and painfully from Naruto, killing him shortly after.
Obito stands behind me enjoying my suffering as Madara becomes the new Ten-Tail Jinjuuriki. I'm forced to watch as the rest of the living Shinobi Alliance are slaughtered mercilessly. I scream and beg for Obito to kill me off already, at least then I would die by an old friend's hand. Just like how Rin died by mine.
"Obito, please!" I beg, "Kill me! I have nothing to live for, bring it upon yourself and End! Me!" My pleas fall upon deaf ears as Obito continues to bask in my suffering.
Hours of mental torture and finally Obito consents. Though, he does it in an extremely painful way. "Here. Go how your puny father did. End yourself." He places a Kunai in my bloody lap, and walks away.
Madara and he walk side by side through the thousands of deceased Shinobi, most likely enjoying it. My eyes follow them until they are but dots in the distance. I raise the Kunai into my line of sight, debating whether it's worth the trouble. Though I had just witnessed my students' early death.
I bite my lip. My students were my everything for years. They were the reason I stayed in Konoha, they were the reason I didn't go completely crazy, they were the reason I stayed alive. But now they're gone. But I have four new reasons to live. Kurapika, Leorio, Gon, and Killua. They're like my old students, but still different all the same.
Hisoka forfeits his last memory and a door in the corner opens. Four people in cloaks and cuffs stand in front of the next door."These are four prisoners from my prison. Fight until they forfeit or die, if you fail or die you're disqualified. No weapons." Hisoka pouted a bit. "No playing cards?~" "No." I smiled. "I can do it," Hisoka smirked again. "Sure, it's no fun when it's an easy win."
One of the prisoners' cuffs fell off, and they pulled the cloak off their head. It is a man with light brown hair in a low ponytail. His eyes are baby blue and his build is like mine, just a bit shorter. He ran towards me, and I made hand signs.
Serpent, Ram, Monkey, Boar, Horse, Tiger.
"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!"
I held my hand up to my mouth and sucked in air. I concentrated chakra into my chest and exhaled. A medium-sized fireball erupted and was sent flying at the man. He was too deep in his sprint to get away, and the justu hit him head-on, scorching the wall behind
him as well.
This time two people were released. A woman with bright orange hair and brown eyes, and a man with dark blue hair and red eyes. They took two fighting stances and charged. I waited until they were close enough and sent chakra to my fists, maneuvering around
Their defenses I planted both my fists on their backs effectively breaking both their spines giving them a the painful death.
The final person was released. He has short black hair is slightly shorter than me and has red eyes. He looks a lot like Obito. This time I make the first move.
Monkey, Dragon, Rat, Bird, Ox, Snake, Dog, Tiger, Monkey.
"Lightning style: Chidori!"
I pierced the lightning blade through his heart, and the door opened. I used a cloak one of the other prisoners wore and cleaned my hand of the blood. Hisoka was grinning lustfully, Damn Sadist. "Oh~ Kakashi, your just so good at that. What's your secret, hm~?" I sighed "Let's just go, Hisoka. I don't have time for your Orochimaru ass." "My what?" I ignored him. He is a lot like Orochimaru...
Through the next four or so hours, Hisoka and I worked through puzzles and fought prisoners until it was finally the last door. "This is the last room. Be prepared to make a sacrifice." The door has a screen above it. There are two podiums each with a red light and a green light on the bottom.
"Sacrifice? Are we going to have to leave something behind?" "Why, I think we will~" Hisoka pulled out a deck of cards from his pocket and set them on the podium. The green light lit up and the door opened, but there was another door behind it. I sigh. I'll have to use my extra copy of Make-Out Tactics. (e) I pulled out the scroll that contains my two copies, wiped some of my blood on the designated space, and took the one that wasn't signed.
Once I layed it on the podium the second door opened into a big empty room, surrounded by other doors. "Applicant number 40 has completed the third phase. Applicant number 44 has completed the third stage. 67 hours remain." Hisoka chuckled and glanced over at me. This is going to be a long 67 hours.

New Game (Reborn as a Reluctant Demon Lord, Book 1)
Portal Fantasy. Isekai. A daydream of nerds everywhere, leaving behind their boring world and living in a fantasy one that is full of adventure. A daydream that became a reality for me and 1000 other Comic-Con attendees. Except for me, it was more of a nightmare. Wanting nothing more than to find a way home, and also saddled with being the world's new [Demon Lord], I found myself trapped in a gamelike world and also somehow a part of the [Hero's] party. So join me as I tell the tale of my struggles. A tale of levels and skills. A tale of cagey game admins and bugs. And a tale of our party's grand quest to defeat... Well... Me. ---- What to expect from this book? 1. A main character who is not overpowered (and instead has to go from near-useless to strong. Not just weak to strong). If you are looking for an OP [Demon Lord] who laughs at his weakling enemies... This isn't for you. 2. A meandering pace as the characters aren't told how a lot of the world works and have to figure it out themselves. (And because there are a lot of characters. Whose idea was it to have a party of 9? I blame Jake) 3. A tragedy. A lot of things are not going to go well for the protagonist. (Not that everything is tragedy all the time. There is humor, laughter, friendship, and even a mascot monster character who got way more popular than I expected. But this is not a story that will leave you uplifted and inspired after every time you read it). ---- Release Schedule and publishing information: Book 1 is complete! I will include a link to book 2 once it has been started. Feel free to give feedback, positive or negative. ---- Other notes Book 1? Yes, this says Book 1. There are probably going to be 3 books. No, the plot as you can guess is not going to be tortured to drag out all the way to book 3. That would be ridiculous. If you can guess the plot of books 2 or 3 at any point before the last chapter of book 1, please use your clairvoyant powers for something more productive. TitusGM? This story is intentionally told under the username TitusGM because the idea is that he was the one actually writing everything down what happened after it all is over. I initially planned to answer everything in character on this site, but that just really didn't work out. If you want an in character response to a comment, simply prefix it with IC: (I also try to leave that as a reminder in the author's note after each new chapter) Cover art?
