《Kakashi The Hunter》Part X One

Kakashi pov.
I wasn't expecting to wake up. Especially not falling towards the ground at extreme speeds. I landed hard but felt no pain. Nothing hurt anymore, and the fall seemed to do nothing. My chakra reserves are full, and I can still feel my Sharingan pulling some chakra. But I don't feel as tired as I usually was. I feel younger. The building I landed behind is covered in reflective glass, and looking at my reflection I can tell I'm not my old self. I look like I'm back to being as young as when I took on being a Sensei.
28 maybe. That's as close as I'm going to get I'll say that. I lifted my now intact headband and I still have my MS. My chakra reserves are the same as during the war, that's good. My mask is back and my clothes are as they were years ago. All in all, I look good.
Now I know what you're thinking. 'You just fell randomly from the sky after watching your students get killed. Why aren't you balling your eyes out?' Well, first off, nothing surprises me anymore. Seeing as I had to watch Naruto almost every day, and he's the Number One Unpredictable Ninja, I got used to being surprised and confused. Second, I'm not crying because they're the people who made my tears run out. I don't have any more tears to shed, and seeing as I'm alive and in an area with intact buildings and signs of life, I know Madara and Obito probably aren't here. I'm not even sure where here is, to be honest.
I am, however, extremely grateful that I have a chance to start over. Though I will have to get used to where I am and why happens in this world.
Now that I'm all checked out and fine, I make my way around the building. It looks like the place next door is a restaurant and trust me, I'm starving. I haven't had any real food in a while.
Once I open the door, the bell chimes and a nice-looking cook greets me. "Hello, what can I get for you today?" I smile under my mask, no doubt having my signature eye smile. "Uh, are there any private rooms?" The man beats a suspicious look in his eye.
"And what will you be having?" I sigh. "How about a steak, medium-rare. For one please."
The man smiles and shows me a big room with a nice table. I thank him and sit down. Once he closes the door, the entire room starts falling. I grab onto the table and send chakra to my feet. Once the room stops falling, the entire wall slides down. I stumble my way out and peek around. Around thirty or forty people are scattered around the room, including a small green man.
"Hello, my name is Bean. Please take one of these cards and pin it to your chest. You will need it so do not lose it." He hands me a white pin with the number 40 on it. I take it from his small hand. "Thank you, Bean." The green bean nods and walks away.
I pin the Number to my vest and walk to a wall. I mean against it and pull out my beloved Orange Book. Oh how I've missed Icha Icha, no time to read during a war, I'm lucky to have the second book plus two copies stored in a scroll in my Ninja Pouch. Out of my peripheral vision, I see a short stubby man with a big nose headed my way.

"Hello there, I haven't seen you here before, you must be a rookie. I'm Tompa. Have a drink." By the way, his body language is, he's trying to sabotage me, most likely poison. "No thank you, I'm good." The man's eye twitched. "Come on, I insist. We can toast to our newly acquired friendship." He pushed the Orange cola drink closer to my face.
"Huh, did you say something? Sorry, but I don't think I will enjoy drinking poison. Good day to you." Tompa grumbled curses under his breath and walked away. During this time the door opened for the fourth time since I walked in. Not bothering to glance at the person who walked in, I continued to read about how the main character is being seduced by one of her lovers.
I was so engrossed in my book, I didn't notice the hours ticking away, I did however notice the door opened over three hundred more times and eyes that would glance over me from time to time. Finally, the door opened for the first time in a while and four new people under the vicinity.
I heard Bean telling the new applicants they were the last ones to enter, so I closed my book and placed it back in its rightful place. I watched as Tompa walked to the new applicants and offer them all a drink. Two of them were children. I was tempted to stop them from drinking it, but the smallest one with the spikes of greenish-black hair spit it out, saying it was spoiled and it tasted funny.
I let out a chuckle when the other two spit it out immediately. Tompa glanced back at me with a glare. I winked, which looked more like a blink, but it gets the point across. There was a random scream, and everyone looked towards the middle of the room.
"Oh look, his arms have turned into flowers~ Make sure to watch where you're going and refrain from bumping my shoulder without apologizing." Sadist. That's what that guy is, a total Sadist. Oh well, it's not like I don't have my moments either.
A couple of minutes later, the wall I'm leaning on started to move up into the ceiling. I push off and turn around. Once the wall is over my head I see a man with purple hair a mustache and no mouth. He somehow still talks and introduces himself.
"Hello, I am Satotz your first examiner. Welcome to this year's Hunter exams. Now, will everybody follow me as I take you to the first exam site? And do try to keep up." He turned on his heel and started walking stiff-legged down a long tall. I shrugged and followed behind. I could hear the steady increase of footsteps behind me, starting to follow. Then Satotz started speeding up, first a light jog, then a run, and finally a fast sprint.
I kept up easily, this is nothing compared to the training we did in the Anbu. It was triple this speed for hours on end. Though that was years ago, and I'm surprised I can keep up. But if that old man over there can keep up, surely I can now that I'm back in my younger body.
Most of the noise in the hall was footsteps and heavy breathing. But I could see some people's steps were silent, like mine, and there is one kid riding a skateboard. He catching up to me actually. Once he was beside me he looked up at me.

"Aren't you tired old man? You know if this test is too much for you, you could always take a break." I sweatdropped. Was it the hair? I'm tempted to dye it. "Listen, kid, I'm only 28. Why does everyone assume I'm old? Is it the hair?" The kid blushed a little in embarrassment. "I mean, yeah. It makes you look old."
I took a look at his own hair. "Speak for yourself kid, yours is white." He smiled a bit. "The names Killua. What's yours?" Interesting name. "Hatake, Kakashi Hatake. Nice to meet you kid." So do children here just befriend anyone? Kind of reminds me of Naruto. We ran side by side for a while, well I ran he skated until another kid caught up. The same kid who spit out the drink.
"Hi! I'm Gon, how old are you?" Wow, he reminds me even more of my student. Oh, how I miss them all. "I'm Killua, and I'm 12." "Me too!" Hmmm, I wonder if there is an age limit to this thing. Soon Another person joined us. It was the guy who looked around my age, that walked in with Gon and that blonde kid. "Hey! What do you think your doing!? That's cheating!"
Killua raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" "This is an endurance test and you're not even running!" Hmm, he reminds me of an early Sakura, minus the fangirl part. "Technically, Mr.Satotz only said to follow him, therefore you can use any type of transportation." The tall black-haired male looked back at Gon. "Who's side are you on!?" "He's right, Satotz never said it was an endurance test."
The guy looked up at me. "And who might you be?" "Kakashi Hatake. Who are you?" "Leorio." "Okay, nice to meet you Leorio. Now I would like to run in peace so I will be tuning you all out from now on." And with that, I started ignoring their conversation. I pulled my book back out and started on the page I left off on. Of course, due to me not paying attention I didn't notice the stairs coming up, but I did notice eyes peeking over my shoulder trying to read my book.
I turned my head and saw Leorio trying to read it. I narrowed my eyes but tripped a bit on the first stair. As I was falling forward, I placed my right hand on another step in front of me and pushed my body upwards, when I felt my shoes touch the ceiling I added the necessary amount of chakra ad started running on the roof. Only Leorio saw how it happened, but some other applicants shot me awed looks. But out of the many eyes, I felt one pair with malicious intent. 'They must not be happy'
But the killing intent turned lustful very quickly. I'm not even going to bother checking who that is. Eventually, I got bored of running upside down so I put my book away and released the chakra. On the way down I did a few flips for fun and landed perfectly on my feet to continue running. I Saw Gon, Killua, a shirtless Leorio, and the same blonde boy from before running in a group.
I weaved my way around panting participants and to the right side of Leorio near the wall. When I walked into the conversation the first thing I heard was Leorio. "I'm a teenager like you guys!" My eye widened significantly and I looked down at the slightly shorter male. "For real? I thought you were my age?" "I'm not That old. I'm 19." I furrowed my brows. "And how old would That old be? Hmmm?" "I don't know, fifty?" I pouted silently in the corner of my mind, but on the outside I was emotionless. "I'm 28. Not fifty. I mean a fifty-year-old would look as flawless as me."
The blonde spoke for the first time since I got here. "How would we know what you look like? You're wearing a mask. I--" "Correction. It's two masks." "Why?" "Just in case someone looks under the first. But if you want to see you'll have to work for it."
Gon decided to change the subject. "So, why do you guys want to become Hunters?"
"I'm going to become a blacklist Hunter and kill the people who murdered my clan, as well as find my brethren's eyes." Sasuke alert. That's just too perfect of a resemblance. When the boy spoke of his clan his hair shadowed his eyes, so I couldn't get a good read on him.
"For the money. You see, I want to become a doctor but I need a ton of money to even get into med school. But after that, I'll get a job as a doctor and help the ones just like my friend, who can't afford the treatment." Like Sakura with the doctor thing, but I see a lot of Naruto in there too.
"I don't really want to become a Hunter, I just heard the exam was hard and wanted to try it for myself." There's a lot of me in him, I'll say that.
"Well, I want to find my dad. My Aunt Mito said he left home and became a Hunter when he was 12, but he never came back. I want to see why he chose to be a Hunter over taking care of me and hopefully find him in the process." He's very optimistic like Naruto but there's a bit of Sasuke too.
"What about you Kakashi? Why do you want to become a hunter?"
I chuckled. "I just walked into the restaurant wanting to eat in private but the room just dropped. I never even got my food. So, I have absolutely no idea why I'm here. And I'm still hungry."
"You mean to tell me that you never intended on coming here?" Leorio asked, dumbfounded. "Technically I don't even know where here is. I kinda just woke up behind the restaurant. Don't ask what happened, I don't know myself. "
Everyone got silent after that. Soon we could see light up ahead. Gon and Killua raced to the top. They tied though. Soon enough the door behind us closed, almost on a guy, and the second half of the first test began.

Edge Cases (Book 1 Complete!)
Rare classes and powerful skills are helpful. Too bad the system doesn't seem built to handle them. What even are all these errors? Our team of outcasts and adventurers will have to rely on their trust - and the bane of all stories, healthy communication - just to survive, let alone understand what the system is doing. Because they're quickly realizing that it's doing something; to people, to monsters, and maybe even to the gods themselves. And their goal isn't just to survive; it's to make things better. It's a good thing they're not doing it alone. --- Edge Cases is an attempt to take the LitRPG genre and the overpowered MCs trope and write a story where numbers aren't everything. Sometimes it takes trust, support, and just a touch of being very, very clever. Expect a mix of action, slice-of-life, friendship, and ominous worldbuilding. Updates M-W-F at 6pm EST. Cover art by Alovck of Artstation, and typesetting by jessessey right here on RoyalRoad.
