《The Disobedient Girl Awakened》Chapter 19: White lotus language

Xia Yao's mouth was dry, she had not expected teaching people would be so tiring. Teaching one person was okay, but why was teaching a whole group so exhausting? Being a teacher was really not something ordinary people could be.
"Do you understand?" She patted the formula on the mirror, her voice echoing in the restrooms.
Everyone looked at the girl in a white dress in the center. She looked innocent like a fairy and her eyes were red like a soft little rabbit.
"You still don't understand, Xia Xi?" Xu Yinuan snorted, "Why do you keep saying √3+√6=√9? No wonder your last math problem was wrong."
"Yes. I have no idea how you can rank 23rd if the whole grade, maybe you cheated." Sweet Sister sneered.
Xia Yao: I guess this is why she makes fun of me, I really can't figure how she gets this answer.
Xia Yao was sitting on the sink and she switched her crossed legs. Her eyes fell on her fake sister and she said coldly: "Now, let's talk about the last problem of the math test paper. Xia Xi, quickly take it out, don't let me rush you."
"Yes, don't feel embarrassed. It's okay to not be able to do it, but is it so hard to admit you're stupid?" Sweet Sister echoed.
There was no way for Xia Xi to not bow her head in this situation. She slowly took out the test paper from her bag, her eyes so red tears could fall any seconds. She didn't expect Xia Yao would humiliate her this way, she would rather be bullied instead!
"Why are you so slow?" Xu Yinuan glared at her, "Slow as a pig, sisters, should we slaughter pigs today?"
Xia Xi quickly took the paper out, thinking of the humiliation of being stuffed in the sack earlier. She would rather die of a thousand cuts!
Seeing that she had finally opened the paper, Xia Yao wiped the mirror clean with a rag, coughed lightly, and slapped the mirror surface: "You can't even do this question! Are you worthy of your parents' education and the teacher's careful lectures?"
"That's right. If you can't even do this topic, do you still deserve to stay in Class A?" Sweet Sister added.
Xia Xi's body trembled instinctively when she thought of her adopted parents and her beloved teachers. She had gone to an aristocratic kindergarten, to an aristocratic elementary school, middle school, and high school. She had always enjoyed the top education in the country and the expectations of both her parents and teachers were very high. She also considered herself a very good person.
But she didn't expect—
That Xia Yao, a country bumpkin from a remote mountain village whose educational resources were seriously behind and who had even been at the bottom of the grade last semester, would turn out to be the first place. And that she even wanted to teach her maths...

Xia Xi's tears fell silently and sobs choked her voice: "Woooo~ I'm sorry, I'm so sorry for them..."
Xia Yao was a little surprised, she didn't think Xia Xi would start crying. Wow, was the skill of making the heroine cry innate? Sure enough, she was a vicious female character.
Just when Xia Xi started crying and all the sisters were happy about it, the locked door or the restrooms sounded. Everyone was taken aback but Xia Yao was extremely calm; after waiting for so long, the male protagonists were finally arriving with their swords drawn to defend their heroine. But which hero would successfully debut?
Within a second, before anyone had time to react, the door was kicked open in a bang. Xia Yao casually sorted out her clothes, ready to do her scene. She was ready to speak and was not panicking at all. Eh, the heroine wasn't the only one able to speak white lotus language, she just needed to learn some expressions!
The light in the restrooms shone on the teenager at the door and he turned his face slightly. His black and messy hair had been blown by the evening breeze, revealing a pair of dark and gloomy eyes and a mole in the corner. He looked straight at the girl sitting on the sink with her legs crossed and saw the equations on the mirror. Ah, she was so comfortable tutoring others!
Xia Yao swallowed what she was about to say when she realized the most troublesome of the three boys had come first. She softened her voice and said: "Xu... Brother Xu..."
The young man was startled and all the irritation on his body instantly disappeared when he heard her call him "brother" and indescribable joy spread in his heart. Her soft voice was unexpectedly nice and it made him want to spoil her. The corners of his mouth rose: "Say again?"
Xia Yao was shocked, she had not expected the white lotus act to be so effective! Really, men couldn't seem to be able to stand it, she had to admire Xia Xi! Then again, it left a dirty taste in her mouth.
But Xu Shizhou was the most difficult male lead to deal with in this campus novel. The vicious female character had almost been ruined by him and Xia Yao didn't want to suffer. Anyway, it couldn't harm her to call him brother.
"Brother Xu." She took advantage of her victory, "I'm sorry, you are so kind, don't be angry~"
Xia Yao: Vomit. I lost respect for myself.
Everyone present was bewildered and shocked by this development but they dared not interrupt under Xu Shizhou's oppressive aura.
Let's just eat melons quietly~
"I'm not angry anymore." Xu Shizhou had already lost all irritability because of the girl's soft voice. He passed the others and walked straight to her.

— It seemed that she was already aware of her mistake, she shouldn't be held accountable.
Xia Yao breathed a sigh of relief. She knew that Xu Shizhou was a good person deep down and would not embarrass her. Coupled with the white lotus words, she was like a little genius who had turned a dangerous situation into a peaceful one.
"Come on, get down first." Xu Shizhou stood in front of her, his hands close to her waist, trying to help her down.
Xia Yao smiled: "Okay!"
She obediently uncrossed her legs and slid off the sink, ignoring Xu Shizhou's outstretched hand and landing perfectly beside him.
Xu Shizhou put his hand down in embarrassment and coughed softly: "Xia Yao, next time you do some tutoring, remember to call me."
At that moment, there was another rush of footsteps at the door and Xia Yao stood upright. She had just cleared one situation, she hadn't expected to encounter the second so soon.
Everyone followed Xia Yao's line of sight and saw two teenagers squeeze into the door. It was probably the first time in the history of Williston Noble High School that the girl's restrooms were so popular with boys.
Xia Yao took a deep breath as she thought about which hero to call first. But at this point, Xia Xi's face was still full of tears and when she saw the familiar figure appear at the food, she jumped into his arms and cried: "Brother, brother~"
Everybody was stunned.
Xia Yao: Ah, it seems that my white lotus skills are not enough just yet. May I withdraw, gentlemen?
Xia Yuan tried to soothe his sister but she kept crying in his arms, unable to say a word. He felt distressed and looked around the restrooms before his eyes fell on Xia Yao.
"Xia Yao, I didn't expect you to be this kind of person."
He must have imagined the original story line and Xia Yao nodded: "Yes, you couldn't expect it."
Of course he couldn't guess that his biological sister was helping his adopted sister with tutoring~
The girl in the young man's arms was still sobbing and Xia Yuan's complexion darkened: "I didn't expect you would bully your sister in the restrooms, you really are—"
Xia Yao looked at this brother of hers' face, only realizing he was really angry and she quickly interrupted.
"I really am kind, I will bring my sister to the restrooms to tutor her after school."
Xia Yuan was startled. Even in the presence of so many people, he couldn't help it: "You are the last one in your grade and you say you help your sister with tutoring. What are you talking about?"
"Brother... aren't school grades sent to the parents' phone? I remember giving your number, didn't you receive it?" Xia Yao looked at him with a frowning expression. She was very much aware any message related to her transcripts would directly be treated as spam. She also was very much aware that in Xia Yuan's heart, she was no longer worthy of being his sister.
Xia Yuan faintly felt that something was wrong with her words and a voice suddenly sounded from behind him. It was Ji Huai and he said lightly: "Xia Yao is first in our grade."
He knew that the relationship between the siblings had deteriorated even more and he knew the reason was the girl in Xia Yuan's arms. Both sisters were at home but Xia Yuan obviously only cared for the adopted sister who wasn't related by blood.
Ji Huai suddenly remembered the scene he had seen backstage during the piano competition and the fact he was neglecting his real sister was not that surprising.
Xia Yuan froze in place but his brows furrowed even more. Coldly, he accused: "Did you cheat?"
Xia Yao was not angry and smiled instead. She really couldn't help it anymore and she said: "You truly understand each other without the need to explain, your Xia Xi asked the same question this afternoon."
— If it were not for living in that place, or if it were not for having to finish this goddamn plot, would she have to endure those hardships every day after returning home?
She deliberately said "your Xia Xi" to completely blur the relationship between the two of them and Xia Yuan naturally understood the meaning behind her words. Did she know what Xia Xi meant to him? After a moment of shock, he asked: "What did you say?"
"Nothing." Xia Yao was still smiling, "Anyway, it's understandable to suspect your sister of cheating. After all, I am such a stupid person, how can I be worthy of being related to you."
She didn't care anymore about completely ruining her relationship with Xia Yuan; she would leave this house soon. And tonight, she had already figured out a way to make money. She would have to take a loan and repay it for the next few years; she could afford to play and she would fight tonight.
She called me brother.
Get out.

The Stormcrow Cycle

Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
