《Blood to Love | 3rd year》45- A Break at the Lake

April continued on. The days were stressful and the nights were filled with memories of my sister.

Blaise advised that we start studying for exams, as they were coming up quick on us. For the past weeks, we crammed our brains with old and new information that we were just recently given.

Complaining occurred, headaches came and went, and snacks were a big part of our lives. Hopefully it all payed off in the end.

Even Easter break was filled with studying and more pounding headaches due to the extensive potions homework we received. It seemed as if we had no leisure time unlike the previous months.

As for Quidditch, Draco was gone almost every afternoon practicing for the game against Gryffindor. When he did have free time, we were silently sitting in the common room and memorizing spells.

Harry, the twins, and Ginny were always gone as well, practicing and eavesdropping on the other teams tactics. All of these events resulted in me solely hanging out with Blaise, Pansy, Hermione, and Ron for a few weeks.

Every time I hung out with Hermione and Ron they had a new story to tell me.

"I am this close to simply walking out of Divination!" Hermione once informed me while holding up her thumb pointer finger very close together to express her annoyance with the class.

"Buckbeak's execution is coming up very soon!" Ron also reminded me.

"Harry has been doing really well with his patronus."

"I've been making the boys study a lot."

"We've been so bloody stressed for exams that I think I might explode."

I absorbed all of this information eagerly and awaited for more. The last weeks of April were just as stressful, however, these small talks with the Gryffindors brightened my day drastically.

May quickly creeped up on the students, as did the Quidditch cup.

Just a day or two away and the biggest game of the year would be taking place right outside of Hogwarts.

Draco seemed exceedingly stressed with Quidditch and studying, causing him to hardly hang out with me which is slowly making me drift from him — my feelings still remained.

My feelings for George are immensely close to nothing and without hanging with Draco, I still can't tell how I felt about him completely.

It was a lively Sunday evening in May. The sun shone through the Hogwarts windows and it reflected the students feelings. We all collectively decided to take a break from work for one day and gather in the Black Lake for a colossal party.

Almost everyone in Hogwarts was outside having a good time and eating the snack stuff why were sat out on the tables.

First years huddled in the corners and some shyly swam in the lake. Second years swam and sat on the ground talking with their friends. Third years swam and messed around with the other kids. Meanwhile, Fourth years jammed out to the music and tanned in the grass. Fifth years played games in the lake with one another and gossiped amongst the older students. Sixth years were chilling around the snacks and even requesting Muggle music to the students who were assigned music duty. Finally, seventh years were messing around with the younger students and racing one another in the lake or scaring them until they ran inside.

Professors were monitoring the kids while we hung around outside. Dumbledore even took a dip in the lake at one point, which earned him hoots and hollers from the daring students.

I was standing by Harry and Ron who were digging into the snacks and I noticed a small black blur in the distance. I squinted my eyes and it looked as if some animal was cavorting near the tree line.

"Harry?" I asked while pointing to where the blob was running around. "What is that?"

"It's the thing I've been seeing around everywhere! I think it's a dog. I've been feeding him when Hermione and Ron are gone, he was starving at one point," Harry explained in a extremely low whisper.

"Why is he on Hogwarts grounds?"

"No idea."

I nodded and we continued looking around at the assortment of electrified students.

"Hermione you came!" I observed as she walked up to the three of us standing by the food.

"I'm not swimming! I think I'm going to sit on a blanket and read."

With that, she laid out a blanket and pulled out a large textbook to which she intently read. I scoffed at her while noticing Draco finally making his way out with Blaise and Pansy by his side.

I waved them over and they eagerly stood by us, digging into the food placed on the large table.

Ron grinned and began talking. "You missed it! Dumbledore got in the lake."

I was surprised by his willingness to speak to the Slytherins but I didn't bother confronting him.

"He got in the lake?" Pansy screeched.

Ron nodded and pointed at Dumbledore who was now wrapped in a large towel. Snape and McGonagall were professionally standing by his side, scoping out the students and making their own old-fashioned jokes with one another.

I caught myself looking at Draco's abs and saw a small grin form on his face. He immediately wiped it off when I spoke up and realized he had to keep his reputations with the Gryffindors in our presence.

"I'm going to swim, care to join?" I asked anybody who agreed to do so.

"Blaise and I are going to tan," Pansy said while dragging him away with a large blanket in her hand.

I laughed at Blaise who sent an apologetic smile as he was pulled away.

"Malfoy, do you want to try out the diving board that Dumbledore just whipped up with his wand?" Ron asked giddily.

Draco hesitantly walked over with Ron to the diving board and I was left with Harry.

"Fine, I'll swim," he caved in.

I smiled and led him out to the water by grabbing his wrist. We stepped in and swam out until I could touch comfortably on my flat feet with the water to my neck.

"It's warm!" I said.

"Your face is very red."

"Harry, you're making me blush," I jokingly said while thinking of Draco's abs which were causing my tomato-colored face.

"At least I did one thing right in life."

I shook my head at him and glanced at McGonagall who was staring right at Harry and I.

She immediately turned to Snape and whispered. I'm guessing it was about that bet because Dumbledore looked at the pair of them with an disbelieving expression.

I heard screaming and whipped my head in the direction of the noise.

Ron was belly-flopping straight into the water while jubilantly yelling his head off.

As he hit the water, a huge smack occurred on the surface. Harry grimaced but I simply cackled at him.

Draco was on the diving board and he smirked at me before smoothly diving into the water and coming up seconds later.

As he emerged from underwater, he shook his head lightly with caused his blonde hair to flop charmingly. His hair was sopping wet and messily placed upon his head while water dripped down his forehead and into his face, making him look as handsome as ever.

His mesmerizing grey eyes met mine and he sent a wink my way, causing me to turn back to Harry.

"Ron's going to feel that tomorrow." Harry groaned while slightly laughing and completely disregarding the wink that Draco sent me.

"Definitely. When did Ron get so comfortable with Malfoy?"

"I honestly think he's just excited."

Draco and Ron swam towards us after their tricks on the diving board and we halted our conversation.

"That was bloody awesome," Ron said while joining Harry at his side.

"It was fun," Draco agreed while standing by me.

"Chicken?" I asked.

"I'm down for some chicken!" Ron immediately said.

"No not the food! The game!"

They all gave me curious and confused looks as I talked about the Muggle pool game.

"It's a Muggle game! There are two teams and one person gets on their teammates shoulders. The two on top will try to push each other off and the one at the bottom tries to stay up. Whenever falls first loses."

They all shrugged and we got closer to the shore so it wasn't as deep to climb up each other's backs.

"Get on my shoulders," Draco said to me.

"Harry hop on!" Ron said while slightly bending down for Harry to jump on Ron's back and climbed his ways to his shoulders.

I then hopped onto Draco's shoulders and sat there until Harry finished climbing on Ron.

Draco grabbed onto my ankles and held me in place.

"You don't have much grip on my ankles, I suggest taking my calves."

He obeyed and his hand slid up to my shin while his rings grazed my skin all the while. I shifted slightly on his shoulders.

"Flustered?" Draco whispered to me.

I ruffled his hair and he sunk down playfully as if he was going to drop so I gripped onto his head.

"Harry you got this!" Ron encouraged.

I laughed while Draco and Ron walked towards each other.

"Don't go easy on me, Potter," I said.

"I won't."

Ron charged at Draco and I grabbed Harry's wrists trying to pull him down. One of his arms escaped from my grip and he grabbed onto one of mine and twisted.

Draco stumbled below me and I staggered on his shoulders. Thankfully, I found my balance and unraveled my arm from Harry's grip. I pushed him in the chest and he leaned back slightly but forced himself back up quickly.

Ron was laughing childishly and it caused me to slightly giggle.

"Focus, Y/n," Draco competitively advised.

I calmed down and Harry wrapped him arms around the back of my neck, attempting to pull me forward.

I took my arms and gripped his and jerked to the side where we both fell in next to each other.

"It was a bloody tie," Ron complained.

"Y/n, hop on," Ron said after a moment of silence.

I looked over at Draco who was grimacing.

Even though I felt slightly bad, I hopped on Ron's shoulders and Harry unpleasantly hopped on Draco.

Draco was having trouble holding up Harry's weight as he was close to it and I giggled at his constant stumbling.

"This is the only time I will ever support you Potter," Draco unkindly said.

I rolled my eyes at them and shook Ron's head for fun.

"Are we friends now?" He looked up and asked me.

I slightly leaned over to get a look at his face. "I suppose we are."

He smiled and looked back down to Draco who was now walking over with Harry's shins in his hand.

I leaned over drastically to reach Harry but Draco kept stumbling backwards. Once he gained minuscule balance, Harry tried to grab me but fell sideways immediately and plummeted into the water. I was so caught off guard that I tumbled forward right after him and front flipped off of Ron's shoulders.

I fell my legs graze someone's body and I swam to the surface quickly. Draco came up in sync with me and inches away from my face.

"I knew you wanted to kiss me."

I grinned and then laughed at Harry who just popped up from underwater in the small space between Draco and I.

"Sorry," he mumbled.

He swam over to Ron and they began splashing around together.

"Draco and I are going to tan with Pansy and Blaise," I began. "Catch you two later."

They waved and I dragged Draco out of the lake and we grabbed towels that Pansy gathered near her blanket.

"How's the tan going?" I asked Blaise and Pansy as they laid back, oblivious to our arrival.

"Hey! It's good, Blaise brought his radio out here," Pansy said.

"Where's the music?" Draco arrogantly asked.

"Right," Blaise muttered while putting soft music the small radio.

I smiled and let go of Draco's hand to lay down beside Blaise. Draco laid right next to me and we listened in silence while our skin soaked in the sun.

"Is this supposed to show results immediately?" Draco asked.

"Maybe for you; you're white as a ghost," I answered.

"I am not."

I turned my head to give him a skeptical look and he turned to me as well. Our faces were, once again, centimeters apart.

"Do you remember our first kiss?"

"I recall it vaguely."

"It was addicting. I wanted to keep you on my face right then and there but I knew you needed time. It's honestly frustrating how long I've had to wait. The withdraw symptoms have been pretty bad."

"Yeah right, Malfoy. You're so full of it."

"Don't worry, I'll wait."

"If you keep bringing it up then I'll make you wait longer."

"Noted."

Blaise began groaning forcefully.

"Blaise what's wrong with you?" I asked.

"It's so hot! I can't sit here and boil to pieces anymore. I'm sorry Pansy! I don't know how you do this."

"Babe, go get in the lake!" Pansy assured.

He sighed and ran into the water like his life depended on it.

"He stayed here for you," I said, smiling at his will to stay with her despite his suffrage.

She lowered her sunglasses to make eye contact. "He is perfectly allowed to go do what he wants. I didn't know he was getting hot!"

"He just likes to be with you! It's cute."

Draco scoffed and I turned to him.

"If you want to scoff and roll your eyes at me for admiring someone romantic than you can leave," I said.

"I didn't do anything," he defended while holding his hands in the air.

"That's what I thought."

He grabbed my wrist that was lying on my stomach and he shoved it on the ground next to me.

"You can't faze me," he whispered in my ear.

Pansy raised her eyebrows from behind her glasses and I smacked Draco's arm with my free hand.

He saw Pansy's gaze fall on and backed away from me.

"I think I'm going to go take a dip in the lake. Have fun!" Pansy called out while throwing her sunglasses down and sprinting into the lake after Blaise.

"You've got to stop! They already think we're a secret couple and you aren't helping!" I scolded harshly in a whisper.

He grabbed my wrist and pulled me up. I furrowed my brows and he threw on a shirt while throwing mine to me. I hesitantly put it on and once it was over my head, he dragged me closer to Hogwarts.

I looked around and noticed Snape smirking at me and turning to McGonagall.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

He ignored me and continued to haul me into the castle. I sighed dramatically but he disregarded my curious thoughts and actions.

Once we reached the corridors he pushed me onto the wall. He stood a foot or so away and was breathing heavy.

"Don't you dare speak to me like that," Draco breathed out.

"All of this because I told you to be careful so our friends don't think we are dating?"

He looked to his side and bit the insides of his cheeks. "We're more than friends."

"Draco I told you that I'm not ready yet!"

"You said that weeks ago! I'm tired of waiting."

"Well, I'm sorry that I have to get over someone before I commit myself to you!"

"I'm not mad that you're getting over someone! I'm mad that you're denying your feelings for me!"

"Do you not understand how much I like you, Malfoy? I like you so bloody much that I have to stop myself from staring at your abs and not jump into your arms every time I see you after a day of being without you!"

"Well I — what?"

"You heard me right."

"So why can't you just be with me?"

"It's complicated and you know that! There's still a fuzzy weird feeling when I see George and I don't want it to be there but I can't help it!"

"If it's just fuzzy for him then how about me?"

"It's more than fuzzy," I whispered. "But I'm still not quite ready."

"Don't expect me to wait around forever. I know you want me but I'm waiting for you to just see it too."

My stomach danced and I realized at that moment that it was really and truly almost time. The feeling that I get with him was nerve-wracking but also so utterly perfect that it was hard going without seeing him for even a day.

"I'm trying," I whispered.

"I know you are."

I hugged him tightly.

"I know that I'm denying my feelings toi but I want it to come more naturally. I don't want to think about it I just want to be able to kiss you one day out of human nature."

"Let's hope that day is soon."

I nodded and we pulled away from the hug.

"How about we go shower and hang out for the rest of the day. We are busy studying the rest of the week so let's not waste time."

I nodded and we walked to the common room while parting ways to shower.

I attempted to shower quickly and once I was finished I went into my dorm to grab clothes with my towel wrapped around me.

Draco was already in my dorm and waiting for me. I rapidly grabbed my clothes out of my closet and went back into the bathroom as he stood suspiciously by my drawer.

Once I finished putting on my clothes and drying my hair, I walked out of the bathroom and saw Draco reading more of my diary.

"Malfoy!"

"Calm down, let's read."

I sighed and sat down next to him with an embarrassed expression etched on my face.

He then began reading out loud and my cheeks grew redder than ever.

June 5, 1992

Dear Diary,

It's Casper's birthday. AKA Malfoy, who is getting attention from all of his popular Slytherin friends and it's boosting his ego. I don't mind; I found a tree by the Black Lake that is comfortable to sit and study under and ignore all the chaos indoors. Blaise usually comes with me to do homework under the tree. Hopefully when you're rereading this you still think Blaise is a prick... Just kidding. You'll probably be dating or something weird by the time you reread this. Hopefully Malfoy isn't a bully anymore! Stick up to him for me!

Much love, Y/n

"I did this year," I muttered to myself.

"How cute, you thought of me on your birthday!" he sarcastically said.

"I'm going to kill you."

"You wouldn't," he responded while flipping the page and reading the next entry.

June 31 1992

Dear Diary,

It's almost time for the end of year feast. I've got Draco's schedule down for the most part so I can avoid him in the hallways at all costs. I guess that's pretty useless now, seeing as we will have a new schedule for second year. There was a lot of stuff going on with Harry Potter and his geeky friends with a stone. I'm not sure, I didn't get the full story. Anyways, the nightmares are getting bad. Get some help.

Much love, Y/n

"So you've always been in need of mental help?" Draco jested.

I smacked him in the hand and he flipped to the next page, causing me to get nervous for absolutely no reason. I had nothing to hide, right?

September 1 1992

Dear Diary,

It's the first day of school. Blaise's birthday as well. He hates to celebrate though, so we ignore it. It's all his moms fault. She never taught him that celebrating is important. Besides that, Draco has already been a bully and we've only been on the express for an hour or so. Pansy Parkinson has been slowly speaking to Blaise more often, probably some crush phase or something that will wear out. Have a nice year, future me.

Much love, Y/n

"That's enough," I said.

"Fine, but we will continue this another day."

I sighed and laid back on my bed as he placed the diary in my drawer where it was previous located.

"Why do you like reading them?" I questioned.
