Leads from the "happy ending"

Tension swam in the air. Not the sort that drove my magic into a frenzy of warnings or the kind that made my fingers itch for a sword. It was a good feeling, a buzz of nerves mixed with excitement.

Where a sword had once been and still was in training, was a long, white bandana. Sapnap's bandana, in fact. He had forgotten it at home, of course, on the most important day.

And, me, being the only one with magic to quicken my running, offered to go back for it. Which led me here, sprinting out of his house, the one he shared with Quackity, George, and Karl, with the beloved headpiece in hand.

I passed my home, the flowers in full bloom and Ash grazing on the green grass around her stable. It was empty now, just like the rest of the homes across the lands, as everyone was waiting for the event to start where El Rapids once was. The quietness urged me to move faster.

With a flick of my hand, a breeze picked up to cool the summer sun heating my skin, but not strong enough to ruin my hair, which Niki and Puffy had just done. They had worried about it when I said I was running in the middle of summer, but I reassured them it would be fine.

I almost laughed at the thought. We all had been at each other's necks a few years ago, the scars along my ribs, face, and hands proof of the gods' war, and now I was worried about my hair. Typical.

Summer was in full swing, my time now free to be spent on the beach with Tommy, Tubbo, and Ranboo, or riding hidden trails on horseback with Techno and Phil when the heat became unbearable. My magic smiled at each honeysuckle that blossomed or bee that passed, strong once again, if not more.

With endless training, (with Dream and Techno, and even Foolish), I was back to my peak, just as I had been before the final fight. Not that my magic had much to worry about now with the higher beings leaving me alone. The most it was used for was quickening growing crops, using wind and strength for building, and now, running across the lands without breaking a sweat.

Wind acted as a net for me, holding me steady as I practically stumbled down the stairs towards L'Manberg. Vines grew across the crater, Phil and Tommy's hard work paying off into a beautiful memorial for the country. Its flag flapped at the bottom, waving with my wind.

I didn't have time to stop and admire the view though, not with the clock ticking. So I sprinted past, rounding the corner to the back of the place and quickly climbing the stairs to a hill that had once connected to El Rapids.

Remnants of the country remained, a particular building being my target. It was old and dusty, but it was in the process of being rebuilt to at least look nice. For now, it was housing the three stars of today's show.

Inside was absolute chaos. People moved between three doors, opening and closing them quickly to not reveal the inside. I almost opted for outside where there was at least moving air, but then the closest door opened and Dream's head popped out.

A smile brightened on his lips at the sight of me. "You better get in here with that. Sapnap is about to set this building on fire without it. He already sneezed embers on George's suit."

"Of course Sapnap would set something on fire on his wedding day," I said, laughing as I followed him into the room.

Unsurprisingly, the stress level was higher with Sapnap's pacing, silver flames licking his heels. His red-and-black suit was starting to look crumpled from his constant movement, but the most noticeable was the loose hangings of his hair.

George, who sat grumpily in a chair in the corner, frowned and fiddled with a strip of white cloth that would've been a stand-in for the original bandana. Evidently, at the seams of his ice blue suit, dotted with mushroom sewings, the fabric was eaten away with black burns.

"-not going to make it on time," Sapnap was saying, his head bowed to the ground with worry lines. "Then I'm going to ruin today and-"

"Sap, relax," I cut in, soothing the rising heat with a smile and a brush of a breeze with my magic. "I got the bandana."

His gaze snapped up and he practically lunged for the cloth, the fire disappearing. Instantly he was wrapping it around his head, treating his hair with care so that it fell evenly over the bandana.

"Are you going to thank her?" George asked without heat to his friend. "Or is your hair too important?"

Sapnap rolled his eyes and left his hair, content for the moment with it, to get down on one knee in front of me and grasp my hand. I almost burst out laughing right then from the dramatic look on his face, but I held it in until he started speaking.

"Thank you, my dear elemental princess, for saving my wedding day," He recited like a prophecy, even planting a kiss on the back of my hand.

"You're such an idiot," I replied with a smile, shaking out of his hand to glance at my own hair in the vanity. It had remained precisely where it had been done. "But I'm glad to help."

"Sap, I know it's your wedding day, but you don't need to try to steal my girl," Dream said where he leaned on the door, his hands stuffed into his dress pants pockets. He wore a plain black suit, with no particular details making him stand out.

Sapnap had wanted his two groomsmen to match with flaming suits, but both denied it, no matter how much they loved their brother. Karl and Quackity somehow talked him out of it and let Dream and George choose their outfits.

Sapnap shrugged, consumed again with adjusting small strands of his hair. "That's even more reason to steal her."

Dream pushed off the door to wrap an arm around my waist, tugging me into his side with ease. I contained the embers that fought to be free in hopes of not ruining the simple gray dress and smiled at him instead.

George just rolled his eyes with a smile and lightly shoved Sapnap out of the way to use the mirror to push dangling mushroom earrings made of clay into his lobes. The two bickered for a moment, as usual, before I stepped in.

"Okay, it's time. Stop arguing and get out the door," I said, slipping out of Dream's grasp to latch onto George and Sapnap's elbows and push them towards the door. "You have to be out there first and we are running low on time."

I opened the door for them, making sure first that neither of the other fiancés was in the hall. With it clear, save for Punz waiting to escort the three boys, I gestured for them to go on.

They filed out in a line, George taking the lead with Sapnap in the back, Dream squished into the middle.

George waved to me, his earrings swaying. "See you out there. Wish me luck with Sapnap's fiery nerves." Then he was out, waiting with Punz.

Dream pressed a kiss to my forehead as he passed, smiling as he went to be with the others. I would join where they were standing as soon as I was out there, but I had another job before I could.

Lastly, Sapnap paused before me, his smirk disappearing into a wobbly, nervous grin. If he wasn't careful, I knew more embers would spit at his fingertips, heat already wavering around his nails.

I placed my hands on his shoulders, lowering my temperature to offer him some relief. "You have nothing to worry about. Today is going to go perfect and you're going to get married and live on with the rest of your life happily wed. You'll do great, dude."

He rubbed a hand across the back of his neck, smiling at the ground. "I know, I know. Dream already gave me one of his pep talks. I'm just excited that it's finally here."

I embraced him, pressing my head into his shoulder. Warmth radiated from him but seemingly didn't bother him, even in the intense summer they had chosen to marry in. It suited them.

"Well, two years is a long time to plan a wedding, but that makes it even more perfect," I replied, my words a bit muffled. I released him, giving him a light shove towards Punz and his two groomsmen. "Now, go. I need to check on the others."

He gave me a smile, one that was so genuine I felt my heart twinge. "Thank you, y/n. For everything."

Mist collected around my eyes, threatening to worsen into tears. I waved him off, swiping at my face before they could fall. "Of course, but go one before you make me cry."

He laughed and waved, then he was gone, taking the others with him to wait at the altar. Now that he was gone, the real countdown began. So I took a deep breath and stepped into the room across the hall, being met with a much calmer scene.

Karl was already dressed in his purple suit, green and silver swirls trailing the arms and shoulders to lead into plain dark pants. Foolish was tying his bowtie, having to bend his head slightly to stand in the low room. Eret, looking fabulous in his kingly attire, was waiting to the side to adjust Karl's hair.

"Everything going okay in here?" I asked, stepping fully into the room. Unlike Sapnap's burning room, actual air cooled my cheeks here and I felt my magic settle. Karl was naturally calmer than his partner and it showed in high-stress situations like this.

Karl turned with a warm grin on his face once Foolish finished, allowing for Eret to comb a brush through his almond hair. "It's great. Was Sapnap okay, though? I heard George's suit caught fire."

I suppressed a laugh and nodded. "Everything was taken care of. George's suit only suffered minor damages. He's out the door now and on his way."

"Then that's our cue to follow him," Eret said, his deep voice rumbling out. He set the brush on the vanity and hooked arms with Foolish, stepping past me for the door. "Meet you out there, Karl."

"Break a leg!" Foolish shouted over his shoulder when the door shut.

Karl giggled, a piece of his hair coming free from behind his ear. The sound warmed and I was reminded how lucky we were to have Karl safe and sound after his journeys through time. The swirled book remained on a shelf in their home, collecting dust, safely.

I let a shrunken violet peony bloom in my hand and tucked it behind his ear to secure the loose strand. He stilled, allowing for me to make sure it stayed throughout the ceremony.

"You know," he started as I was working the flower into place, "I always met Quackity and Sapnap's ancestors on trips. They had similar enough features for me to recognize them, but even if they hadn't, I would've known who they were. And I never thought I would be marrying their descendants."

I laughed quietly, suddenly feeling the absence in the room. "Fate works in mysterious ways." I finished with the flower and stepped back, spinning him to view it in the mirror. When he smiled and lightly tapped it, I knew it was right. "You need anything else before I move on to Quackity?"

He shook his head, the peony holding in place. "I'm good. I'll be here whenever you two are ready."

I left him then, opening the last door, the hallway much quieter now. Though, that allowed me to clearly hear what was happening in the final room. I rushed in, panic flaring at my fingertips.

On the other side, Quackity was sobbing with his head in his hands, his suit jacket loose around his shoulders, with a panicked Tommy and Tubbo shocked in the corners, Ranboo kneeling beside the man while trying to soothe him.

"What is going on here?" I asked, bewildered at the sight.

Quackity didn't even notice my presence, his focus purely on crying. That left Tommy and Tubbo to explain, talking over one another, their words slurring together.

"One at a time!" I said, trying to slow them down.

Tommy sighed and ran a hand through his hair, the black suit, (matching with Ranboo and Tubbo), crinkling a bit with the movement. "All I did was say how much of a big man Quackity looked and said he would do great."

Tubbo nodded, his long brown hair bouncing to reveal his curling horns. "He just ... broke down! We've been trying to get him into his jacket for ten minutes!"

Ranboo looked over his shoulder, far more unruffled than his best friends. His hair remained in soft waves, his suit uncrumpled, and his crown upright. His voice was steady when he spoke. "I think it's all just hitting him now. They didn't say anything mean, genuinely."

"Someone's emotional," Tommy muttered out of the side of his mouth, meaning it as a joke.

I shot Tommy a look, him instantly giving me a sheepish smile and backing off. Tubbo began adjusting Tommy's tie so it was straight, trying to soothe the tension out of his friend. When I took his place, Ranboo went to help as well.

"You guys can head out," I said to them, kneeling next to Quackity. "Get some air before this starts."

They nodded, giving Quackity a thumbs up before they were gone as well, joining the growing group at the altar. That left me to place a hand on Quackity's back and run it in small circles, letting him cry for a second longer.

"Q, what's wrong?" I asked gently, the ticking clock disappearing for now.

He sniffled and lifted his gaze to mine, revealing his puffy eyes and splotchy cheeks. "It's everything."

"Was it Tommy and Tubbo? If you're upset-"

That got a sniffly chuckle out of him. "No, I'm not upset. I'm overwhelmingly happy. What Tommy and Tubbo said just made me realize how much I am. I'm too damn emotional for this shit and I've had two years to prepare for this day!"

I grinned, looking up at him. "No amount of time can prepare you for the emotions, Q. Today is meant to be the happiest day of your life, so you're going to cry."

"I don't see you crying."

"I've come close, and trust me, once the ceremony begins, it will all be over for me," I said with a laugh. I grasped his hand, giving it a squeeze to reassure him. "This will be the best thing that's happened to you. Don't worry about being too emotional. But seriously, did the teens make it worse?"

He shook his head and dried his eyes, sitting up a little. "No. They're the best damn groomsmen I could ask for."

"Good. Now, do you wanna finish getting ready for the greatest day of your life?" I asked.

He nodded and I got to work, helping him pull his navy suit jacket over his gold suspenders and white button-up. His beanie remained on, his dark hair straight underneath. That only left the evidence of his tears.

Before he could point it out, I pressed a hand to his cheek and reached into his mind, spilling light and earthly power into his features. The red in his cheeks eased and the puffiness in his eyes relaxed, enough so after a moment that I could remove my hand.

Quackity looked in the mirror, fingertips pressed to his cheek in wonder. "I should be used to that after my eye, but it still is strange."

I extended my hand for him, helping him stand to straighten his suit. Once the wrinkles were smoothed over and his red tie was straight, I knew it was time.

Quackity took my offered arm and we headed for the exit, into the hall, stopping right in front of Karl's door.

I paused, looking at Quackity one more time. "Are you ready?"

He took a deep breath and nodded. When he went to reach for the doorknob, he jumped. "Shit, I almost forgot." He reached into his pants pocket, searching for something.

"What is it?"

In response, he pulled free a silver chain, a smooth chunk of raw amethyst unspooling at the end. It spun with the weight of the little crystal, reminding me of the emerald necklace around my neck from Techno.

"This is from Sapnap, Karl, and I," Quackity said, unclipping the chain. I bowed my head, allowing him to tighten it around my neck. "It's a thank you gift for being the greatest 'best woman.'"

The lilac crystal sat a little above the emerald, gaining a slight glow after settling. When my magic brushed against it, it felt sweet and bright, similar to the other necklace with its strange magical connections.

"It's beautiful, Q," I replied, examining the shining gem. "I feel honored to be your 'best woman.'"

Due to being asked by all three fiancés to be a part of their wedding, I negotiated as being there to help all of them by being their 'best woman.' That gave me the role of planning the event, helping them on the said day, and lastly walking Quackity and Karl down the aisle.

It was exhausting, but worth it, especially when Quackity opened Karl's door and the two saw each other, and I felt the swell of their hearts in my magic.

Quackity's eyes began to glisten again and I gently patted my hand on his arm where it lay. Karl rested his arm on my other, the two now at my elbows. They glanced at each other, no amount of words able to describe how they were feeling.

"Alright, you two ready to get married?" I asked, unable to hide my smile.

"Definitely," Karl replied for both of them, giving me the signal to walk them out the door, back into the summer sun.

We winded our way down the stairs to the other side of the hill, the opposite of where L'Manberg was, the decorations slowly coming into view. Long leafy vines intertwined with honeysuckles and white hydrangeas to make garland hung across the fences and mountainsides. They were a gift of my earthly powers, but the site of the wedding was all-natural.

When we stepped into the center of the long trail of tilled soil, the chatter cut off and everyone stood from their seats along the aisle. Every person that I knew was there, dressed in their best attire, smiling at the two men at my sides.

Quackity released a small breath at the site, and I squeezed his arm. Karl needed no reassurance and just beamed back at the crowd.

Music began playing from the push of one of Tommy's orchestral discs into a jukebox, giving us the cue.

As I led Quackity and Karl down the aisle, the world became surreal. So much happiness and love floated through the air, creating a joyous tension that bloomed from the excitement of the attendees and the fiancés.

Waiting ahead, Sapnap absolutely melted at the sight of his fiancés. A few silver embers floated near his hands but with a little flick, they disappeared, as much light from the sun shining from him. Dream and George stood in a line next to him, ready to help Sapnap with anything.

Tommy, Tubbo, Ranboo, and Foolish stood across from Sapnap, waiting for Quackity and Karl to help them as well. While Eret was one of Karl's groomsmen, as the King, he stood at the center to officially wed the three.

When we reached the end, everyone sat again and I took Sapnap's hand to place on top of Karl and Quackity's joined hands, smiling at all of them. Now the tears were watering, seconds away from slipping free.

"Who's emotional now?" Quackity whispered, causing all four of us to laugh quietly.

"Whatever," I replied equally as low, taking a step back. When they all continued to watch me, I waved at them. "Well go on then, before I fully start crying."

I took the open spot in between Sapnap and Dream, releasing a breath as the day was finally coming together after months of planning and today's hectic waves. Dream briefly squeezed my shoulder, giving me a lopsided smile.
