《BREAK A LEG | VKOOK ✓》EIGHT | THE 'M' WORD

Theatre was really fucking awkward.
Like- really fucking awkward.
To nobody's surprise, Jeongguk was paying no attention to the lesson, he had caught a cold which was expected as he was sniffling quite often and it was freezing.
Jeongguk sat there, sniffling. His head was pounding and his nose was flushed red. Resting his head back on the seat, Jeongguk's eyes started to flutter shut, mind having all sorts of thoughts.
Yesterday was just fucking weird. After that weird-ass exchange with Taehyung in the toilets, Jeongguk's mind was sent into freefall, imagining every possible reason for Taehyung to act as he did.
Jeongguk probably was thinking too hard about this. Y'know, maybe Taehyung was also sick? Who knows.
Not to mention, Taehyung and Jeongguk never uttered a word to each other. They only exchanged accidental awkward glances and that was about it for their interaction all lesson.
These train of thoughts was what kept Jeongguk barely conscious. He was so invested in his mind that he didn't notice someone violently shaking him to bring him back into consciousness.
"-Jeongguk!"
"What?" Jeongguk quickly sat up, his voice echoing across the room, making the class face in his direction.
Mr. Han smiled. "Jeongguk, honey." He began. "Was there anything you wanted to say to the class or are you gonna let me teach?" He grumbled, sighing.
Jeongguk gulped. "Um- No, I don't.." He sank back into his seat.
Mr. Han turned back and continued with his lesson, Jin silently laughing at Jeongguk's antics.
"Hey! It's not funny!" Jeongguk whispered, glaring at Jin.
Jin continued to silently giggle. "I mean- it sorta is. You were falling asleep, I had to wake you up somehow."
Jeongguk groaned, putting his head in his hands. They had ten minutes left of theatre and Jeongguk couldn't wait to get out and escape this awkward tension.
He heard Mr. Han clap his hands. "Right- so that's all for stage directions, I'll see you all next class."
Jeongguk almost sighed in relief from his words, this particular lesson was really boring anyway. He felt a tap on his shoulder and turned to where it came from, it was Jin.
"What is it?" He asked, his voice nasally as his nose was blocked.
"Hey, is something wrong? You and Taehyung haven't been arguing for the entire lesson. Heck, I don't even think you've said a word to each other." Jin suddenly smirked. "Have you two finally become friends?
Jeongguk scoffed. "Fuck, no."
"Then?"
Jeongguk shook his head. "I have no idea. I'm just as lost." He groaned, Jin just pursed his lips- not saying anything. They could hear a conversation amongst the shared silence so they listened, paying close attention.
"-As I was saying, apparently someone in this class was caught making out with the sports coach in the projection room above the auditorium." Seulgi whispered
Both Jin and Jeongguk looked at each other before Jeongguk was about to turn his head back- he made eye-contact with Taehyung in the distance, who quickly faced the other way. Jeongguk swallowed, going back to listening to the conversation.
"No wonder she was always allowed to play in the leagues!" Yugyeom added. "She totally sucked the coach's dick!"
Jeongguk slightly gasped at the revelation, although he didn't know the context, it was interesting to listen. He looked back at Taehyung, he had his back towards him with his head looking down at the floor.
"-Wait in this class? Oh, I think it was Lisa or something?" Yeri commented, quickly glancing at Lisa. "It has to be her. Who else would?"

Jeongguk audibly gasped and chimed in. "That's the girl who flirted with me last week!" He pointed a finger, Jin blinking at him.
The group of students turned to Jeongguk, Seulgi chuckled. "Yeah. She does that."
Jin joined in the conversation as well. "I heard she also sucked the calculus teacher's dick to get a better grade." Some of the students grimaced. "Ew! He's like eighty and she offered to suck his crusty dick? Gross." Yeri muttered, the rest laughing along.
"But those are just rumours, you never know." Sehun replied.
Jeongguk gave a dry laugh, he was sure his voice was going. The rest of the conversation went as such but Jeongguk only half-listened. It was as if his thoughts were consuming him alive, not allowing him to think of anything else but what happened yesterday.
Taehyung- he- was he okay? It was so out of the ordinary to have him act like that- like he was about to break down. Although Jeongguk had only known him for about a week or so, he didn't seem.. right.
Jeongguk gulped, eyeing Taehyung once more before turning back. He thought that he should at least make an effort to talk to Taehyung- see if he's alright, even if he acts like a bitch.
And so Jeongguk did. Mustering up a bit of courage, he walked up to Taehyung and sheepishly smiled, the other looking at him with a hint of panic.
"Hey-"
Taehyung saw how everyone else was leaving and then looked at Jeongguk for a split second before briskly walking to the door mumbling something incoherent again. Basically ignoring him.
Jeongguk was left in a slight state of shock. Taehyung had just acted like- like he didn't exist! Confused, Jeongguk sighed and walked out of the class whilst wiping his runny nose with a tissue, mind clouded with even more thoughts.
The rest of the week played out exactly like theatre- Taehyung completely ignoring Jeongguk yet acted friendly to everyone else.
There was actually a time in science where the teacher asked Jimin and Taehyung if they can have Jeongguk in their group to which Taehyung deadass asked- 'Who's Jeongguk' which pissed him off.
Like- all of this was pissing Jeongguk off. He wasn't the plague for God's sake. Taehyung was acting irrationally because each time Jeongguk tried to talk to him he was shut out and his cold wasn't making anything better.
The only good thing coming from his week was that Namjoon didn't try to approach him anymore which Jeongguk was thankful for. The last thing he needed was his ex constantly bothering him.
"-And that's the story about how I realised my life was crumbling before me." Jeongguk finished with a loud sigh, grinning at Hoseok as he stood proudly in front of the window.
The two decided to hang out together in Jeongguk's dorm as they didn't have much to do. Not to mention it was because Jimin also wasn't there to kill Jeongguk's time, probably out to do his 'thing' again.
Hoseok ate his can of pringles leisurely and listened to Jeongguk rambling on though he always stopped mid-way to let out a sneeze. He occasionally had to shake the can to get some of the snack out as he listened.
"Yo- Jeoncock. Calm down, s'not like-"
"How many times do I have to tell you my name is Jeongguk!" He angrily replied, blowing his nose.
Hoseok held back a laugh. "Oh, I know your name is Jeongguk. S'just a little funny seeing your reaction whenever I call you that though." He continued to munch on his food.

Jeongguk rolled his eyes, putting his tissue in the bin. "But as I was saying- the asshole won't even talk to me. What did I even do?" He huffed, plopping down on his bed.
"You're sorta overthinking this."
"Am I?" He sniffled.
"Yep. You need to relax, that Taeyong guy probably wants to be alone." Hoseok sat up from the floor, closing the can and dusting his hands off.
"Are you doing this on purpose or are you just naturally bad at names." Jeongguk laughed, sitting back down on the floor.
Hoseok faked an offended gasp. "I can not believe after all we've been through you'd say that to me!"
Jeongguk almost scoffed, tongue poking his cheek. "Says the one who literally calls me Jeoncock every day."
Hoseok snarled. "But y'know I'm only joking, Jeonggukie!"
"That was disgusting never call me that again."
"Fine then. I won't, Jeoncock."
Jeongguk laughed, walking into his dorm bathroom as Hoseok followed him, leaning on the door frame with his arms crossed.
"But y'know." Hoseok started, rearranging himself on the door frame. "Maybe your friend will come around. Give it a couple days and see how it goes."
Jeongguk opened the medicine cabinet, getting out some antibiotic cream and screwing open the lid. "Friend? Good one, Hoseok."
Hoseok joined him in the bathroom, taking a glance at himself in the mirror. "He's not your friend? Wait, then why do you care so much-"
"Because Hoseok! He's acting weird and shit and as the wonderful person I am, I have to find out what's up." Jeongguk argued, holding the open bottle of cream.
Hoseok blinked. "I think you're just being curious then- Anyway, all m'trying to say that is that he'll probably get over the 'weird-ass' exchange soon. Just give him time."
Jeongguk dabbed a bit of the cream on his bruises, rubbing it in. "Yeah, maybe-" Jeongguk quickly paused, letting out a loud sneeze. Hoseok jumped.
"Are you sick?"
"What does it look like to you?" Jeongguk deadpanned, sniffling again.
"Say, how's it going with that girl? Did she ghost you?" Jeongguk asked, trying to change the subject.
Hoseok raised a brow. "Oh, Mina? Yeah. M'going nowhere with her. We only hooked up for a while before she found some other guy to fuck her." He laughed off, ruffling his red hair in order to look 'cooler' according to him.
"How is she?" Jeongguk covered his mouth to cough.
"Really fucking whiny, to the point where it gets on my nerves-"
"No! Not that way. I mean how's she doing. How is she?" Jeongguk giggled, closing the lid on the bottle of cream and placing it back in the cupboard.
"Oh! I dunno. Kinda don't care." Hoseok brushed off, putting his hands in his pockets of his grey sweatpants.
Jeongguk nodded, grabbing a box of tissues and took one glance at himself in the mirror before walking back to his room with Hoseok.
"So." Jeongguk started. "How about we watch a different movie this time?"
Hoseok gasped. "Legally Blonde?"
Jeongguk grinned. "You read my mind!"
Excitedly, Jeongguk got the CD out of the case and inserted it in his laptop, he got a really thick blanket out of his wardrobe and wrapped it tightly around himself. He looked at Hoseok.
"Oh- sorry. Did you want a blanket too?" Jeongguk asked, pulling out a tissue.
Hoseok shook his head. "Nah- I'm good, my sweater's warm enough. Thanks for offering though."
Hoseok went back to watching the movie, so did Jeongguk- well he tried to. He was still confused from yesterday and wanted an explanation but Hoseok was right, he's overthinking this. Taehyung will come around, hopefully.
"For fuck's sake, Jeon! Can't you do anything right?" Taehyung groaned, picking up his phone which Jeongguk had accidentally spilt water over.
"Well, maybe you should've put your phone in your pocket instead of leaving it carelessly on the seats where something could happen to it!" Jeongguk argued back, crossing his arms.
Taehyung grew angrier. "Well, maybe you should've been more careful and watched where you were standing!" He cried, shoving Jeongguk.
"Hey!" Jeongguk shoved Taehyung back more harshly and then Taehyung pushed him back and then Jeongguk fucking-
"Can you guys like- calm the fuck down?" Jin groaned, looking at the two in disbelief. "Taehyung, is your phone broken or anything?"
Taehyung violently pressed the power button repeatedly. "It won't fucking turn on because of Jeon!" Taehyung glared in Jeongguk's direction.
Jeongguk huffed, rubbing his nose. "Well how was I supposed to know your incompetent-ass put your phone there?"
"Yeah? Well, you should've-"
"Oh my god! Shut up!" Jin broke through again, he turned to Jeongguk. "Well, since it was kind of your fault you'll have to pay Taehyung for the repairs." He sighed.
Jeongguk scoffed. "No, I'm not. That's his problem-"
"Jeongguk."
"Fine!" He grumbled. "I'll pay for the fucking repairs!"
Taehyung smirked. "You better."
Things have somewhat gone back to normal after a couple of days- Jeongguk and Taehyung silently bickering during every shared lecture if that's considered normal.
Their arguments weren't even that serious! It would usually start by Taehyung giving his opinion that nobody asked for and Jeongguk merely defended himself by calling him a 'two-faced weak-ass bitch' and that would usually lead to an argument.
Hoseok was right, Taehyung did eventually come around, it happened during a random lecture when Jeongguk raised his hand and asked a fairly stupid question and Taehyung snickered at that, saying something like- 'I can't believe you asked that.'
Jeongguk was so happy that Taehyung wasn't ignoring him anymore and almost tried to hug him to which Taehyung shoved him off and was all like- 'Get your fucking hands off me, bitch.' And Jeongguk just rolled his eyes.
"You're lucky that-" Jeongguk quickly stopped, letting out another vicious sneeze. "-That I'm being nice."
Jin walked up to Jeongguk and put his hand on his forehead to check his temperature. "Woah. Jeongguk, you're burning up! Why didn't you just say you were sick and not come in?"
Jeongguk shrugged, sniffing. "It's nothing-" He quickly turned his face to the side to cough into his hand. "It'll go away soon."
Taehyung grimaced, giving Jeongguk a look. "Well if you're sick- make sure to stand ninety light-years away from me."
"I'll cough on your fucking face."
"Please don't-" Taehyung begged, keeping his distance.
Jeongguk huffed and walked off, he could hear snickering in the distance, it was from a boy and his group of friends.
"What's that one play where some guy kills the king?" One of them asked, looking at Jeongguk.
Jeongguk raised a brow. "Is it a Shakespeare play?"
The boy nodded enthusiastically, almost too enthusiastically, a sly smirk growing on his face. "Yeah! Yeah! That one, what's it called again?" He asked, urging for Jeongguk to say the answer.
"Macbeth?"
A very loud gasp was heard, coming from Mr. Han. The whole room fell silent, you could hear a small amount of mumbling. "Oh my god, he said the 'M' word." One of them spoke in shock.
Jeongguk had a confused expression on his face. "What?"
Taehyung snickered. "Dumbass, you're not supposed to say Macbeth in theatre, it's bad luck-" Taehyung clasped a hand over his mouth, realising his mistake.
The group of boys erupted into laughs and snorts, some even high-fiving each other.
"Jeongguk? Taehyung? Please stay behind after school so I can have a little talk with the two of you." Mr. Han spoke, trying to hold in his anger.
Jeongguk and Taehyung merely exchanged nervous glances with each other. Jeongguk bit his lip, not knowing what to expect after school.
Meanwhile, Taehyung had an annoyed expression on his face. He clicked his tongue, stuffing his hands into his jean pockets.
Jeongguk looked over at Jin, who pursed his lips and shrugged his shoulders, he too was just as confused.
Jeongguk just inwardly sighed to himself, Oh boy.

Disclaimer of sorts: I am non-native English writer that used to write mostly for himself. After my last computer decided to die on me taking all my works with it I lost the desire to write for quite a long time. This is my attempt to go find motivation to write again as this was my favourite hobby. The idea is to be held accountable. As for being non-native, I don't believe that should be a major issue as I feel my proficiency in English to be sufficient enough to not be too much of the distraction. That said, be forewarned that the rules governing punctuation are beyond my grasp. All I can do is try not to completely suck at that. As mentioned this is an attempt to motivate me to write again so any message, encouragement or constructive criticism will go long way.
