Valor and Violence is a series of short stories following different, yet all equally colourful, characters set in the same world. Birth of a Legend, the first short, follows Captain Erskine Erwell, a newly promoted Captain in the Calandorian Royal Navy, charged with protecting his people from all who would do them harm. Great news for the Calandorian citizens, bad news for the Skjar reavers that ravage the shores in search of slaves. But when a small reaver fleet slips the net and escapes to the southern jungles of Marduk, Erwell must fight a war on two fronts; one against the raiders, and a far more difficult war against the hostile landscape. If he can't find allies in this strange land, he may end up being the one in need of saving. The first part of the second short story will be uploaded on Saturday, the 11th of June, following Ferez Ahud, an aspiring young battlemage charged with the unsavoury job of 'terminating' a rogue member of his college. But how this nobody of a mage became a fugitive remains a mystery, and when the answer is discovered, the tables are turned and the hunter becomes the prey. Like many others across the multiverse, Markus was chosen as this world's hero to fight against the steadily approaching cataclysm. Only, something went horribly wrong. Left with only a handful of memories, Markus has spent years clawing his way up from poverty and officially registered as an adventurer to try and make his fortune. Unfortunately, Artificers are the least combat-capable class of the four classes, and Markus has no connections to join an established party. With the fate of countless worlds hanging in the balance, a chance meeting will determine the course of a war nearly as old as reality itself. Warning: Markus has trauma induced amnesia and will occasionally 'act out of character' or make 'poorly thought out' decisions. These events are rather obvously telegraphed abd represent conflicts between his current personality and the one repressed alongside his trauma. Just something to bear in mind.The story will bounce predominantly back and forth between the primary protagonists every couple of chapters. The time stream is linear, so events are not revisted/rehashed/retold through the narrative format. Characters may comment on something that has occurred, but that's different. Decha is a genius high-ranking general, called back to Austell from The Outside by the council. Theodore Chen, the director of the Crime Affairs Agency requests for Decha to do some local investigation on the recent threats targeting Austell's most prestigious University, Grandell. The job is easier said than done. Decha has to go to Grandell undercover as a student again, investigate a great number of students and pick out suspicious behavior. The problem is that Grandell has few students from the opposing Sector, the Brackets. Sector B is full of people who are of the lower class. They work as much overtime as possible to make ends meet. Decha's mission entails that Sector B residents are most likely responsible for the threats directed at Grandell. While trying to solve the mystery under the radar, he gets involved with a Bracketer woman who oddly refuses to leave his side.Decha will have to uncover hidden truths. He may even go through a journey of self-discovery and have a deep understanding of how the Sector's flawed system truly works.
