the car ride to her mother's house is silent.

tense with nerves and potential excitement, their plan had been discussed prior.

evangeline thought it was foolish and too preconceived.

however her father did not, and his mind would not be swayed.

driving through southend was a complete and utter reality check for evangeline.

the broken down thatched roofs, and the lawns that were trashed with broken bottles and mauled by weeds and rotting discards.

the air reeked of pollution and poverty.

this was her real home.

evangeline realised how caught up she was in living in this false ideal that she was wealthy and lived like lucinda did.

but she didn't and wouldn't.

and as they pulled into the dirt that was her 'driveway' her father cursed under his breath.

"please tell me you haven't been living like this."

"welcome home papa" she elicits softly.

they get out of his car and evangeline takes the lead, opening the door and listening to it creak open on, on its' rusted hinges.

she steps through the doorway, turning to face him on the outside.

"you know the plan" he encourages.

so she shuts the door in his face, and calls for her mother.

"mother, i'm home."

the thumping of falling items sounds from the bedroom and before she can even ask if she's okay, her mother emerges.

"oh eva, sweetie, i have missed you so much" she squeals enveloping her daughter in a warm hug.

for the second time in one day, evangeline is completely and utterly shocked. her mother had never been this loving and cheerful. the only thing she could really do is weakly hug her back.

it seemed as if this was good parenting saturday.

odd.

"i've been doing a lot of thinking, eva, i know i have been rather hard on you, and i know it has been hard growing up without a father" she pauses pulling back.

"i mean, i didn't have a father, so i should know first hand." her mother exclaims

"you and i should build a proper relationship and be like those two women from gilmore girls! "

evangeline beams, "that sounds wonderful, mother"

"but tell me, why do you look like you're bursting to tell me something?" her mother provides the perfect segway for her to reintroduce her father.

"i have someone i want you to meet." evangeline smiles turning to the door and calling "you can come in now"

the door swings open to reveal her father, he steps inside.

gazing back at her mother, the full family stands reunited within the small flat.

the bright smile drops off the woman's face as she stares past her daughter and at the man who abandoned her during the most difficult time in her life.

the man who stole her virginity, her pride and her life.

the man who had not contacted her in sixteen years.

the man who was the father of her child.

"get out of my house" her ice cold voice echoed.

"please, anna, let me talk to you, let me fix this." he pleads.

"you had your time and you ruined me, how dare you think it's okay for you to step foot into my house after abandoning me."

"anna, i have loved you for so long, please."

the next couple seconds seem so surreal as her face curls upwards in a smile, however the smile never reached her eyes.

instead her two dark irises held malice and hatred.

reflected into her actions as her course hands clasped around the antique glass flower vase and sent it hurling towards her old lover.

he movements, brisk and agile as he slides out of the way, not turning to see the glass shatter against the wall behind him.

the wall so close to his daughter, a shard soars into the air and strikes the poor girl right above the ear, then clatters to the floor with a ping sound.

'ouch' she sighs to herself, a little in fright, unaware of the blood already starting to trickle from the little gash upon her perfect skin.

"evangeline, leave quickly, i don't want you seeing this." her father whispers to her, already pushing her towards the door, but only looking at the left side of her face.

the side without the cut.

so, for the second time this week, she sat in a driveway, in the dark.

what is there to do now.

she thought trying not to sit around in her own self pity and mope a bit.

and as her thought train wandered off, to the sounds of yelling and shattering.

a familiar black range rover pulled up into her driveway.
