"

are you sure your parents remember me?"

evangeline whined into her best friend's ear, leaning back into lucinda's brand new car's seat, feeling the cool leather contrast with her warm fingertips.

she wished she had the luxury of being able to afford something like this.

the girl felt so at ease.

"it's only been a couple years since they last saw you , plus they've been begging for you to come around ever since we got back"

she responds referring to the recent 7 year period her family abided in england.

"not that they're ever around." she rolls her eyes at the thought of her parent's constant absence. evangeline chooses to ignore it.

cindy lifts her hand and places it on her friend's outstretched thigh, making it seem like a comforting gesture, until she pushes evangeline's legs off her dashboard.

"keep it clean angie, this is brand new."

she sighed looking around the expensive neighbourhood they were driving through, evangeline smiled looking at the well groomed hedges adorning the gardens and the cobbled footpaths leading up to every doorway. the large gold plated doors and impressive architecture, this was living.

it had been years since she had come through this part of town.

all her life lucinda had lived in

south-end, the poor side of town, and when lucinda left to england, evangeline had no place nor purpose coming up to the rich side of the town.

"home sweet home" cindy chimes, pulling the key out of the ignition and looking up at the house, or rather a mansion.

the younger girl could simply gaze up the home for hours, the whole house looked so much like a castle.

"cindy lu, your wealth never falters to amaze"

she whispers under her breath, shocked that lucinda still lives in the same house as she did all those years ago.

god, how evangeline had missed her.

"my brother is staying with us while his house is built, mind you, watch out his temper has gotten worse."

evangeline offered up a weak smile, not particularly looking forward to seeing him since it took her atleast 2 years to bury her idyllic crush on her bestfriend's older brother, regardless of his age and poor temper evangeline always thought he was a sweetheart.

"that's fine with me," she responds nonchalantly, as if she couldn't care less.

lucinda smirks as she speaks again,

"he has always had a soft spot for you"

a blush spreads across evangeline's cheeks, thinking of her bestfriend's attractive older brother.

he was nine years evangeline's elder, but that never stopped her from wanting him.

"oh shut up, you."

lucinda's dainty fingers unlock the front door and she follows her in, evangeline takes a deep breath taking in the scent of vanilla, freshly polished marble and grandeur; home.

to say evangeline was excited to be back here, would be a complete understatement.

ever since she had met lucinda, at the feeble age of 4, evangeline had lived vicariously through her. she loved her best friend's confidence and courage since day one, and evangeline could be the one who always had time to listen and give her the attention she needed. lucinda made evangeline a secondary character in her own story, but she didn't mind.

"harry i'm home!" she calls through the house. soon enough a large body wanders lazily into the kitchen where cindy and evangeline wait, his head is tilted down to his phone which lays in his tattooed hands.

"hey. did you end up getting the book i asked you to borrow?"

he speaks not even looking up from his phone, she wasn't lying when she said he'd gotten ruder.

"no, but harry i've got a guest for you, if you'd like to start paying attention"

harry groans in annoyance but continues to ignore her.

and quiet as a mouse evangeline whispered "hi harry" she was awfully shy, seeing as she hadn't seen him in so long.

yet funnily enough his head raised in an instant, shock present on his face.

'his perfect face.' she thought.

evangeline's mind raced wild with unholy thoughts and questioning how it was possible he only got more attractive as he grew older.

harry's lips curve up into a smirk, "well, well if it isn't my little angel."

for a split second her eyes welled at the mention of his old nickname, which she truly loved so much, no one apart from him called her angel.

no one apart from him, gave her the prestige of being so glorious.

it was a silly little nickname he'd given her she was younger and was cast in a nativity as an angel. she'd cried and sulked, wishing she got to play mary; a more important and memorable role. she could remember sulking in her room and harry sitting beside her on the worn-out carpet.

"didn't anyone tell you that only the prettiest, most special girls get to play angels?"

he had patted her head softly, until she looked up at him with her big eyes that were exaggerated by how puffy they were.

"really?" she gasped cheekily.

"of course, my angel." he grinned at her, and from that day forth. evangeline was his angel.

She giggled boisterously back, a low chuckle erupts from his throat at their little reunion.

then he opened his arms for her to run into, just like old times.

evangeline wrapped her arms around harry's neck as his hands fell around her waist, pressing her into him tightly.

"god, angel, how you've grown" he mumbles into the younger girl's hair.

evangeline stepped backwards fumbling with the end of her skirt, a blush very evident upon her porcelain cheeks.

she didn't know really why she was blushing, she'd been around so many other attractive boys but for some reason, he had an ethereal effect on her.

"let's go angie" cindy calls from already halfway up the stairs. the girl shot one last grin up at her her bestfriend's big brother once more and then followed lucinda's calls.

preparing myself to spend the afternoon listening to her complete recount of the last 7 years, including unnecessary information about all of the indecent acts she had completed in her teen years.

all the while, the older brother of evangeline's bestfriend was so awestruck, all he could do was stand and ponder, on how or when she got so god damn gorgeous.
