-Tanjirou x insomniac reader-
You tossed and turned in the bed, your mind finally forsaking you in the massive amounts of Insomnia you were experiencing. It wasn't that you were in pain, or something of the sort, it was that your body hated you. That was it, plain and simple. Sleep was something that often evaded you in the late hours of the night.
You curled up, once again the un-relaxed feeling of your mind and soul keeping you awake. Once again, you shifted so you could dully stare at the blank ceiling. Sitting up, you glanced at Tanjirou sleeping like a child next to you. Frantically running your hands through your (h/c) (h/l) hair and let out a loud sigh.
'How the hell does he make it look easy?' Was there any hope for you to even get some sleep this late at night? Grumbling, you plopped back down with your back facing him. 'What's the point?' You pulled a stray blanket up and over your body as you attempted to sleep once again.
Without warning, a hand slithered around your waist. You let out a small yelp as a chest was pressed flush against your back. There was a faint heartbeat echoing through your chest making your cheeks inflame.
"Hey... You can't sleep (y/n)?" Tanjirou yawned into the nape of your neck. You relaxed slightly from the small jump. His arm rested on top of your body as his thumb slowly traced circles on the exposed skin. "Something like that..." You shifted in the bed to face him. Tanjirou was barely awake himself so how did you wake him up? Tanjirou shifted so that he could look at you from above.
"Well... What would help you sleep?" You turned to look at him, propped up on one arm on the pillow. "No idea..." The back of his finger tucked a stray strand behind your ear before placing a small kiss to your forehead. "That won't do (n/n)... There has to be..." Tanjirou took a moment to yawn on the next word, drawing the sounds out. "Something that will help..."

You stayed silent trying to think of something that would make you feel sleepy, but you were drawing blanks. "Maybe... If you just talk?" Already, a small yawn left your lips. Tanjirou shifted to lay on his back, offering for you to lay on his chest. Gratefully, you took the position and curled your body around his. One of your legs snaked in-between his own to make sure that the two of you didn't drift apart.
"Sounds easy enough..." Tanjirou's arm wrapped around you, rubbing small circles onto your shoulder. There thudding softly in your ear was his calming heartbeat. Softly, he began to ramble on about childhood memories that you weren't apart of.
Everything from Nezuko scraping her knees to his younger siblings. Soon a warm smile pulled on your lips when he mentioned you and when his father brought you into the family.
"When we first brought you... back... My father seriously thought you were his little girl..." Tanjirou adjusted himself, now hugging you. "Protective over you (y/n)... even if you don't remember..." Tanjirou's hand traced circles on your shoulder, sliding you further into a relaxed state.
"I don't think... he ever told you the reason for... being so overprotective towards you..." His voice softly trailed off into light sleepy breaths, although you were barely conscious yourself. It was just the two of you breathing for a few minutes when Tanjirou remembered to lull you completely off to sleep.
He stretched for a moment before returning to his sleepy ramble. "I think... it was because he knew the truth about you... yet loved you anyway..." Tanjirou let out a breathy chuckle and began to play with your hair to keep himself awake. Tanjirou found himself smiling at your peaceful sleeping form. "So... that I could in turn... do the same..." There, along the bruises of his neck and your's. This was a way to show that you both laid claim on each other. For no one else to have, or touch.

Tanjirou leaned down and placed another kiss to your forehead. "Show you... what a real bond was... so much more... deeper than any forced ones that your father tried to make..." He could feel your body relax, fingers uncurl and shoulders droop. Your breathing soon became the steady rhythm telling him you were asleep. "So that I could be ready... To love you... for now and the rest... of forever..." His voice grew quieter with each word until he nodded back off into sleep with you in his arms.
Even asleep, there is no other way he'd have it.
(I think the phrase, for now and the rest of forever is such a cute fucken way to say he'll be there forever.

8 138Lost In Translation
If you're one to travel the roads, you may have heard of me. You may have heard my Names in the stories, the songs, and the whispers of the road. Perhaps you've even seen me during my travels, speaking to a bird of blue light, or on a city street, performing small acts for coin and repute. Or perhaps you may know me as the Skystrider, who walked with the wind. Or the Voiceless, a man of song without speech. You may know me as the Tutor, who taught the Lion of Summer how to fight, or the Traveler, who has walked all the roads of the earth. I am all of these things. And people have branded me a myth. But people don't understand what a myth is. They haven't heard the songs lost to our tongues, nor have they seen the things I've seen. They haven't gone to the places I've gone. My feet have walked the plains, the seas, and the clouds. I have spoken languages unspoken; tongues lost to time. I have sung to the earth, held the moon in my arms, and walked the roads that your heroes hesitate to even mention. I have outwitted Demons. I have danced with the Fae. My songs have been heard by lords of wind and ash, and my steps have echoed in the bellies of gargantuan beasts the likes of which you have never seen. These are what real myths are. And me? I'm no legend. I'm just the bard stupid enough to poke the real ones with a stick. Discord link here. [Disclaimer: Book 1 of this story will likely be published in KU by around the start of 2022, so please keep that in mind. Book 2 and onwards will continue here until they are published as well.]

There will be occasional user polls to decide how the story progresses, interspersed throughout the story, and the polls that were done in the original version will still apply to the current version. Also if you have any suggestions for story ideas that you would like to see incorporated, leave a comment about it, and they might show up in the future. Lastly, I hope you enjoy the story, and thanks for reading. P.S. Thanks to gej302 for the cover art.
