"Your silence will not protect you."
~~~~~
You flinched.
You gulped the lump in your throat when you saw the chopsticks in Muichirou's hand broke. You knew he will react this way since he's your older brother. Muichirou is a passive person but when it comes to the people important to him, he'll just... Flip out.
"That guy?" Muichirou asked. You sensed the dark atmosphere around him engulfing the whole dining room. Heck, it might be the whole Tokitou Estate.
You commented, "You actually remember him."
"I don't care. What part of him that made you like him anyways? I don't approve of you two."
Your heart sank at those disencouraging words. You expected Muichirou to be fine and chill with you and Tanjirou being together. But, no. Your older brother really has to disapprove. Big brothers suck.
If Yuichirou was here, would he approve of the two of us?
You flinched once again. You can imagine just so vividly the scene of Yuichirou's terrifying face all red as he bursted all of the heart-stabbing words into your ears. Okay, I don't think so.
You finished up your meal. You protested, "He's very kind, Nii-san. Strong too. I've gone to several joint missions with him already..." You smiled at the memory of his warm smile.
"(Y/N). Stop dozing off. You're making me puke here," spat Muichirou. Your smiling face was gone and was replaced by a frown.
"You just don't know the feeling of liking someone, Nii-san. Don't worry. Someone might like you if you're not that intimidating."
With a huff, you stood up. You went for the door.
"Hey! I'm your older brother, (Y/N). We're not done yet."
"Only by a few minutes! Blegh!"
* * *
You mumbled, "Geez. He doesn't need to be overprotective." You snuggled deeper in your futon, almost covering your face.
A smile came on your lips at the memory of Tanjirou asking you out.
"T-there's something I want to tell you for a while now, (Y/N)-chan..."
You turned around as you sheathe your blade back to its scabbard. You looked at Tanjirou with curiosity and confusion. Tanjirou stuttering is very unusual yet amusing. Nonetheless, it's very rare for Tanjirou to stumble over his words.
"What is it?"
Tanjirou gulped. He closed his eyes shut and exclaimed, "I really like you, (Y/N)-chan! Please go out with me."
A giggle erupted from your lips. Tanjirou was red as a tomato back then. You closed your eyes and slept the rest of night away. You're lucky you don't have any mission tonight and tomorrow night.
This is a disaster.
You stood behind Muichirou, who was glaring at Tanjirou. You and Tanjirou planned to go out in a date since the two of you haven't gone out in a while due to the repetitive mission you both had. Tanjirou had that apologetic and nervous smile on his face. The boy has no idea your older twin brother has this protective side of you.
You whined, "Nii-san! I'm practically the Winter Pillar and that fact alone means I can handle myself. So, move."
Tanjirou knew better than to butt in the argue you just dedicated yourself to. Even though you're a year younger than him, you can still be pretty scary. Murata's right. Pillars can be really scary. Tanjirou already died a thousand deaths in Muichirou's mind.
Muichirou didn't spare you a glance. He just said, "No," which irritates you even more.
Knowing you two don't have time left, Tanjirou went around Muichirou—who tried to block him—grabbed your hand, and walked away.
You followed him, understanding arguing with Muichirou is pointless. You were about to enjoy your date when Muichirou took your wrist and pulled you towards him.
"Nii-san!"
Muichirou glared at Tanjirou. "Where do you think you're taking my kid sister?"
You pulled your wrist from Muichirou's grasp. You exclaimed, "For God's sake, just let me go already!"
You stormed away from Muichirou. He looked at your retreating back. He was guilty for pissing you off. Did I do something wrong?
Tanjirou bowed in front of Muichirou. He assured Muichirou, "Don't worry about (Y/N)-chan, Tokitou-san. I'll protect her with my life."
Muichirou narrowed his eyes at Tanjirou. Tanjirou felt Muichirou's gaze as a hawk's gaze, aware of his every movement.
"You better."
"H-hai!"
It continued like that. For a month, Muichirou had become overprotective of you. It is only natural that he worries over you, it was his brother instincts after all. But, he doesn't have to go to such efforts such as sabotaging your date! When you found out he was hiding in one of the alleys, you literally gave him a piece of your mind in training later that night in the estate. Boy, he mentally noted not to settle an argument in a fight if you're emotionally angered.
* * *
"NII-SAN!"
"Tokitou-kun!"
You assured yourself million times over that your brother will be alright. You took one last glance at Muichirou's flying figure before regaining your composure again.
You gripped harder on the blade as you unleashed an attack towards the fan demon, "Breath of Winter, Second Form: Raging Snowstorm."
When your body bolted towards the fan demon, you saw the tiny swing he did. Shit! I fell for it too!
"(Y/N)!"
You were sent flying outside the building, but not far like Muichirou. You were glad that you were only thrown near the vicinity of the Upper Moon.
You grabbed a branch and landed gracefully on the ground. You immediately ran towards the building you were thrown from.
The sight of Tanjirou carried away by a new demon made you change your destination.
Your vision caught sight of Tanjirou. He was about to get attacked from behind, so you tackled him to the ground.
"(Y/N)! I'm glad you're okay!"
"Be glad I wasn't thrown that far," you mumbled. You and Tanjirou quickly got up and assumed battle stances. The two of you were fending off the wing demon.
Tanjirou was about to explain his analysis with the splitting demon. But, you appeared to be managing yourself well and you seemed to caught with what he already found out. She's a Pillar after all.
You were in the middle of unleashing another breath attack when you sensed an attack coming at a fast rate right behind you.
"(Y/N)!"
When you looked back, the shade of the all-too familiar crimson blood stained your vision. "TANJIROU!"
The wing demon boasted his claws. You were scrambling over Tanjirou's wound. It's all over his chest!
Tanjirou looked back at the demon with a confident smile in his features. "Right back at you."
You were surprised at the attack he inflicted on the wing demon. Tanjirou turned to you, "I'll be fine."
You nodded. The two of you charged together at the wing demon.
"You'll pay for hurting my boyfriend!"
* * *
"Where are you going?"
You turned around and saw a bandaged Muichirou approaching your also bandaged self. You gave him a smile before saying, "I'm visiting Tanjirou."
The Pillar meeting had just ended and you were way beyond tired. Just thinking of the future battle makes you tired. You just hope spending time with Tanjirou will make the stress go away.
Muichirou noticed you were feeling down lately, especially during the meeting. You were too quiet and only spoke when the two of you were explaining the mark. Muichirou inquired, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. I'm just worried about Tanjirou."
Muichirou tilted his head, "Why?"
You knew he was trying to pry some information about Tanjirou. "He shielded me from an attack and... it seems to be serious."
Muichirou felt more grateful than ever towards Tanjirou. Tanjirou was the one that made him remember his memories and now, he even protected you. He was guilty for not supporting your relationship. At least, Tanjirou has proven himself worthy.
Muichirou rested his hands on your shoulders. You were confused and blinked at him. "I'm sorry for being rude about Tanjirou. I..." Muichirou stumbled at the words he was about to say.
You asked, "You...?"
"I... accept... Tanjirou as your boyfriend."
You touched your foreheads together. You mused, "We have the same temperature."
You scanned his body to check if there are wounds that happened to reopen. You looked back at him and said, "Nii-san, you should get some rest now. I think you're sick."
"Baka. I'm serious."
A smile came to your lips and you engulfed Muichirou to a hug. Muichirou was relieved that he managed to get a smile on your face. He's worried for you after all.
"Thanks, Nii-san."
Muichirou returned the hug. "Love you, lil' sis."
"Love you too."
* * *
You appeared cheerful as you skipped towards Tanjirou.
"Tanjirou! I have good news for you!" you chirped, taking a seat beside Tanjirou.
Tanjirou lifted his spoon towards your mouth. "Say 'ahh.'"
You opened your mouth for Tanjirou. Tanjirou puts the food on your mouth. He asked, "What's the good news?"
You took your time to bite down the food. Tanjirou was silently eating as he patiently waited for you to speak. After a gulp, you answered, "Guess what? Nii-san finally approved of us!"
Tanjirou brightened up at your news. He grabbed both of your hands and held them up. He exclaimed, "Really? That is good news!"
"Yep! It's about time, since you helped him regained something important."
Tanjirou was confused. "What do you mean?"
"It means he's going to be kinder to you."
Tanjirou was relieved actually. He doesn't have to endure watching from the sidelines your bickering with Muichirou. He also doesn't have to go into hiding once he spotted Muichirou from the distance. He can finally have talks with Muichirou without involving any threats.
"We can finally enjoy our precious time." You stood up and reached to place a chaste kiss on Tanjirou's cheek. Tanjirou's face bursted red.
A giggle slipped past your lips. "Yeah."
Meanwhile, Genya was stopping himself from puking at the sight of the couple.
* * *
"You did everything I said," said Muichirou. Tanjirou finished his training with Muichirou. He was surprised he passed Muichirou's training easily.
Tanjirou was about to prepare for his leave when he remembered he had something to tell to Muichirou. "Ah, Tokitou-kun."
"Yes?"
Tanjirou bowed. "Thank you for approving me for (Y/N)-chan."
Muichirou beamed, "It's only a brother's duty to make his little sister happy, but..."
Tanjirou gulped at the sight of Muichirou emitting dark aura. Muichirou's eyes were narrowed into slits as he said, "...If you ever make my sister cry, I'll make sure you'll wish you didn't exist in the first place."
"Y-yes."
~~~~~
|~EXTRA~|
You were asleep beside Tanjirou and Nezuko when you heard the sliding door open. You lifted your eyeslids, rubbing your eyes.
You immediately frowned at the sight of Muichirou. You chose the option to ignore him instead. You turned the other way so your back can face him. Moments later, Muichirou was shaking you slightly, saying, "Wake your boyfriend up."
"You wake him yourself."
A sigh escaped Muichirou's lips and he proceeded to pinch Tanjirou's nose.
