"I don't think this is the perfect ring for her..."
Tanjirou held his chin as he studied one of the intricate rings in a jewelry store. He can't seem to find the perfect ring that is suitable for Kanao. He needs the ring that she likes since she's going to wear it for the rest of her life, IF she said yes to his proposal.
Yes, Tanjirou is going to propose to Kanao.
They've been together for a couple years. They managed to climb back up again after several mild and critical problems that tried to sever their relationship. The two are always a cute couple when together. Zenitsu is starting to puke at the sight, but hey! Zenitsu is also on his way to claim Nezuko as his if he starts to change some mannerisms Nezuko wants nothing out of.
Back to the task at hand, Tanjirou continued to stare intensely at the rings displayed before him. The saleslady simply watched from her spot behind the glass containers, admiring Tanjirou for his deep thinking about the ring. One day.
A hand on his shoulder made Tanjirou jumped from his statue-like stance in front of the rings. Uzui said, "We already visited every part of this town yet you still haven't flamboyantly decided what ring you're going to give?"
Tanjirou scratched his nape as he turned to fully face Uzui. He apologized, "I'm very sorry, Uzui-san. I really just can't seem to find the perfect ring for Kanao."
Uzui was about to talk when Hinatsuru walked ahead of him and comforted the baffled Tanjirou. Without giving Uzui a chance to talk, "Take your time to choose a ring for Kanao-chan."
Makio noticed a ring and decided to point it Tanjirou. Tanjirou thought about it deeply before declining politely. Makio commented, "This type of ring is definitely my type!"
Tanjirou said, "Kanao is not a flashy type of person."
A ring caught Suma's attention. She pointed it out to Tanjirou. It was another no from him. He said, "I think its too simple."

Uzui groaned, "Just what kind of ring do you flamboyantly want?!"
Tanjirou smiled, "A ring that suits Kanao perfectly."
The shopkeeper pulled put a velvet box. She said, "This one is from the new batch."
Tanjirou saw the ring and he knew this one is perfect for Kanao.
The shopkeeper explained, "This is a Magnolia flower. People says it symbolizes purity, dignity, and nobility."
Tanjirou exclaimed, "Th-This is it! The perfect ring!"
Uzui mumbled, "It's not that flamboyant of a ring to me."
His three wives looked at Uzui with a murdering glare in their eyes. Uzui said, "I flamboyantly take it back."
***
The next problem is how Tanjirou will propose to Kanao.
He literally has no idea in mind how he can bring the proposal in their talks, dates, or whenever he has the chance. It's been a few days since Tanjirou bought the ring. He even received a discount from the shopkeeper, telling him she admires him for being so thoughtful and considerate.
Tanjirou took Kanao to a date, specifically to a meadow near Shinobu's office. He knows full-well Kanao is not a fan of flashy dates. Sight-seeing like this or simply spending time with Tanjirou is enough for Kanao.
"Kanao."
Kanao snapped her star-gazing session to look over Tanjirou. She felt Tanjirou is about to say something big. Is he going to...?
"You're the most beautiful girl I've ever met." Tanjirou holds Kanao's hands and stares at her eyes lovingly. Kanao smiled and said, "Thank you."
Tanjirou was about to kneel when Shinobu's crow interrupted their sweet moment. "CAW! CAW! SHINOBU KOCHOU IS LOOKING FOR YOU! CAW! CAW!"
Kanao looked back at Tanjirou. She placed a peck on his lips and said, "It must be an emergency. I'll see you later, Tanjirou."
Tanjirou waved, "Yeah, see you."
When Kanao was out of sight, Tanjirou pulled out the ring. He studied it before sighing. Ever the optimist, he said, " I can do this!"
***
"Every moment is perfect, Tanjirou-kun. Ahh~ I can't wait for the day to see the two of you in front of the altar! You better hurry up!"

Mitsuri's words keep on echoing in Tanjirou's mind. Since the planned proposal failed, he'll just be asking for her hand right now.
Tanjirou was looking at the ring in his hand again.
"You're still up?"
Tanjirou flinched, causing the ring to fall from his fingers. Fortunately, he's on his futon. He sighted the ring beside him, so he covered it with the blanket. He said to Kanao, "Yeah. I was waiting for you."
Kanao smiled, "You don't have to stay up for me." She took the spot beside Tanjirou. Sneakily, Tanjirou picked the ring and hid it in his pocket. He snuggled up close to Kanao. He remembered something.
"Let's go to the festival tomorrow."
Kanao eagerly replied, "Sure."
Tanjirou had a smile in his face as he fell asleep in Kanao's arms.
***
Tanjirou can't help but blush at the sight of Kanao in a yukata.
The two of them strolled around the town full of lights. Tanjirou plans to bring Kanao in a place where the both of them can have a perfect view of the fireworks. And, as the fireworks are booming, he'll get on one knee and propose to her.
"Tanjirou?"
"Y-yes?"
Tanjirou is so deep in his plan he forgot they're in the town right now.
Kanao giggled at him. Tanjirou is not one to be in a daze. The sight is very rare. She said, "The fireworks are going to start soon."
Tanjirou brightened, "I know a perfect place." He held Kanao's hand and pulled her to the location he had in mind. When the two of them arrived, the fireworks splashed the dark night sky with various colors. Kanao can't help but watch in wonder and amazement. "The fireworks are so beautiful."
"But not as beautiful as you."
Kanao snapped to Tanjirou's direction. She saw his heart-warming smile and the loving gaze in his eyes. She blushed and looked back at the fireworks.
Tanjirou knew this is the right moment. "Ne, Kanao."
"Yes?"
Kanao felt it again. The feeling of something big is going to happen. She feared Tanjirou might drop the breakup bomb, but the two of them are happy. There's no problem, right?
Tanjirou continued, "Ever since I met you, my—"
A cry of a child resounded. The two of them turned their heads towards the cry. They shared a look before taking off to check if the child is okay.
***
Another failed attempt. Tanjirou thought as he sulked in his futon. The child only lost his way back to the town. It wasn't big of a deal. Tanjirou can't really blame the child, but why does he have to cry right when he's about to propose?
He doesn't understand why his surroundings don't allow him to propose to Kanao. It's the right time. He feels it. He's sure Kanao feels it too.
"What's wrong?"
Tanjirou shook his head. He lay his head on Kanao's lap. On instinct, Kanao ran her soft hand in Tanjirou's burgundy locks. She secretly admires the softness and fluffiness of Tanjirou's hair. Meanwhile, Tanjirou is enjoying the sensation of Kanao's hand running through his hair. It calms him down.
He asnwered, "A lot of things are happening."
"Care to share?"
"They're not big of a deal."
"Okay."
They remained like that for a while: Tanjirou laying on Kanao's lap as Kanao is fondly running her hand in Tanjirou's hair.
Something clicked within Tanjirou.
He immediately sat up. Kanao looked at him confused. "Is something wr—ah!"
Tanjirou pulled Kanao up. He beamed at her before saying, "I want to show you something."
He led Kanao in front of their house. The moon is in the sky and the stars are glittering. Kanao looked up at the sky. As she was about to speak, Tanjirou put a flower on her ear. She raised her hand to feel it. She asked, "What do you want to show me?"
I can do this.
Tanjirou fell on one knee. He took Kanao's left hand and looked at her. Kanao's heart was beating fast, it was deafening. Please tell me this is not a dream.
"Kanao, you're the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm willing to live out the rest of my life growing old with you. Will you stay by my side forever?"
Kanao's free hand went up to her mouth. Her eyes widened. This is not a joke, right? The smiling expression and the loving and sincerity in his eyes proved Kanao that Tanjirou is real with this.
Her eyes glistened with joyful tears.
"Yes! Yes! I'll always say yes!"

Toothpick
“Hello! My humble audience! I, the Bard of the North, am going to tell you a tale. Nothing new, nothing old. A story of a hero, some may say, others a poor boy who was hated by the world.” The storyteller paused as he waited, right timing was everything when telling a story. Pacing… Too slow and the audience became bored then left without tossing even the smallest of coins. If he spoke too fast and rushed the story. It would leave the audience confused and having no reason to be impressed. So like any good storyteller, the Bard has to do a balancing act of sorts. Not too slow, not too fast. Just perfectly in the middle. “In a shattered country in the south, a novice princeling has the ambition to mend a torn tapestry that is his birthplace. Struggling to fend off those who would usurp the throne in an unending civil war spanning centuries. A mercenary that left only death in his wake, unable to stave off the monotony and peace of life. He looks back at the path laden with bodies, wondering if it was all worth it. Wandering souls summoned by a madman, travel away from a wasteland in a foreign land, the first alone, the others as companions. A deity, ancient in her years, waiting to be freed from a duty she no longer enjoys. For all these people and their stories, none are the hero of this tale. No, the hero is not grand, not wise, not ready.. he was punished for nothing of his doing, who was an outcast that was unloved by many, including his father.” This was always the big reveal novices use to jump off into their story. He did not start here, instead, like any good fishermen, he set the bait and waited until the fish bit before pulling. As he saw the audience's eyes focus, he then started the backstory. The harness, that stopped the listeners from having metaphorical whiplash. The foreshadowing. “But that is not where the story starts. No, not even the hero's birth. Where the story begins, is the boredom of the deity, a deity many know of. She who hunts for the impossible, the guide for those who have lost the path, the Huntress of Mallon--” A small pause, a short breath. “--All old names for a single powerful being that has roamed the grounds of this continent longer than any line of kings or queens, lords or ladies. A being of worship for many an individual…” One last breath. And he began singing the first verse.
