《Tainted Love | scream series ¹ ✓》[16]

"You know if I were accused of carving up two people, I'd take the opportunity to skip school" My eyes hardened at Tatum as she talked to Billy like he was a piece of shit, and I knew I wasn't the only one who was pissed.
Stu's head snaps in Tatum's direction with a scoff. "Hey, go easy, Tatum. He didn't do it" Tatum rolled her eyes and pouted as Billy steps a little closer to Sidney, looking at her softly.
"Talk to me, Sid," my sister is silent as she looks at Billy.
Suddenly, a scream erupts; we all look to see masked ghost students running down the hall again, screaming wildly, running amuck. "Why are they doing this?" Sidney cries sadly.
I run my hand through my hair, stressed. This is getting out of hand.
I hear Stu laugh loudly, "Are you kidding? This is like Christmas" Billy punches Stu in the side.
"Owwww..." He groaned, holding his side with a frown on his face.
I look at him seriously. "You open your mouth, and stupidity pours out" Stu looks like a puppy who had just been kicked, but I soon gave him a small smile, not being able to stay annoyed at him.
Sidney, clearly upset, takes off down the hall, and Billy races off after her "Aww crap," I moan, watching my sister run away, knowing I'd have to be the one to comfort her later.
"Stay away from her, Billy," Tatum calls out loud, slamming her locker door shut as the bell rings.
She turns and looks at Stu and me with a huff "Don't you have class Stu" she snapped, moving her eyes over to me discreetly as if she was trying to mentally tell him to leave.
"Oh, don't worry, Tate, we have chemistry together I'll look after him," I told her, knowing the hidden meaning would piss her off.
Tatum eyed me for a second before pushing her way in between us, growling to herself, "Bye T, see you later," I called after her tauntingly as she flipped me off over her shoulder, making me laugh loudly, knowing I could piss her off with just my words.

The halls have cleared with first period underway, leaving Stu and me to slowly make our way to Chemistry; everything was silent except for the one or two stragglers who could be seen rushing to class.
"So we have Chemistry?" Stu repeated as we walked next to each other with a smirk.
"something like that", I replied coyly, knowing we did have Chemistry between us; we always did. There was no denying the tension or spark that had always been there between the two of us.
"You know I thought you were beautiful the first time I ever saw you," Stu confided out of the blue "but I thought you wouldn't even give me the time of day," he revealed as we stopped and looked at each other.
"I thought you were crazy but an awesome crazy," I admitted, grimacing, knowing it wasn't 'like' at first glance for me.
"and now?" Stu asked, playing with my hair as we leaned against the lockers, just staring at each other.
"Now," I tried to think of how I felt, "you're making it very hard for me not to kiss you," I admitted as I felt my internal battle "I'm trying my best to do what's right, but you always make me want to do what's wrong".
I looked down only to have Stu lift my face up and press his lips to mine. The kiss was rough and passionate. We both wanted it, but then a certain blonde made her way into my head again.
"Fuck" I groaned, moving away from Stu "We can't do this right now, I want to, but I can't" I stuttered, leaving a confused Stu leaning against the lockers.
I walked away to the Chem lab, trying to fight the urge to turn back and jump into Stu's arms, feeling his body on mine.
Opening the door, I noticed Sidney was missing "Where's Sidney?" Mrs. Holt looked at me sternly
"Like you, Katherine, your sister is either late or not coming. Now please take a seat," I shook my head, going back out of the door, needing to find Sidney.
"Miss. Prescott, Miss. Prescott!" I heard Mrs. Holt shout after me.

It wasn't like my sister to skip class. She was too good for that, I soon found Sidney with her head in her locker and her shoulders trembling. "Hey, I've been looking for you," I told her quietly as she looked up at me sadly. She had been crying.
I pulled my sister in my chest, and I felt her breakdown, it's not a common thing for me to be hugging my sister, but these past few days have been chaos, and I knew she'd need me to help her through it or else she'd break down.
"Come on, let's go," I told her, grabbing her arm; we quickly make our way down the hall, rounding a corner, running smack into Billy. We all collide hard, catching Sidney off guard, scaring the life out of us.
Sidney falls backward, but Billy catches her fall, "Jesus, SHIT!" Billy mumbles, obviously just as shocked as we were
"Ouch," I moaned, holding my nose that bounced off my sister's shoulder. I huffed, glaring at the other two.
Billy, still holding onto Sidney's arm, leans down to catch her eye "Hey, hey, it's just me" Sidney pulls away from him quickly, making Billy looks at her hurt "What? You don't still think it's me?" I shake my head I've never thought that.
Sidney catches her breath, "No... I don't... it's just... Oh God, Billy, someone was there, someone tried to kill me, us. Kat was thrown through a table for protecting me," I saw Billy's eyes widen when Sidney told him about my little acrobatics the night of the attack.
"The police say I scared him off. It wasn't me, Sid" Sidney's face fell. She looked like she was aging overnight. The stress was getting to her; it was getting to all of us.
"I know. He called again last night at Tatum's house" I looked at her in shock. She never told me that.
"Wait, what?!" I asked, but Sidney just gave me a look
"See, it couldn't have been me. I was in jail, remember?" Sidney looked like she was thinking about what Billy had said
"I'm so sorry... please understand," she pleaded, but Billy shook his head.
Billy looked annoyed and hurt, "Understand what? That I got a girlfriend who would rather accuse me of being a psychopathic killer than touch me,"
Sid looked at her boyfriend, shocked. "You know that's not true".
"Is it the sex thing? Am I being too pushy?" Billy asked her softly as I groaned
"I don't want to know about your sex life, Sid,"
Sidney shook her head and gave me the eye "No, it's me, Billy. I need time. I'm still adjusting to my mom".
"It's been a year since she died" I looked at Billy shaking my head a little to let him know he was going down the wrong route. If he wanted Sid back, but Sidney had already recoiled from his words.
"Tomorrow. One year tomorrow," She told him, not that we had been counting or anything.
"When are you gonna let that go, Sid? When my mom left my dad—I just accepted it. This is the way it is. She's not coming back".
There had been a lot of rumors about why Billy's mom had left, I knew my mom was sleeping with Billy's dad, but I didn't know if Billy knows that, but I wasn't going to be the one to tell him that my whore of a mother is the reason his family is broken.
Sidney looks angered "Your parents split up. It's not the same thing. Your mom left town, she's not in a coffin somewhere," she said to Billy spitefully.
My eyes widened in shock, "Sidney!".
Billy didn't look upset; he had the same void of emotions face on that he always does "You have to move on, Sid, Kat has" my head shot up. Why was he getting me involved?
Sidney walks away angrily "I'm glad to know you two are coping so well with life, but some of us aren't so perfect. Some of us are just trying to hold on".
Sidney walks off into the girls' bathroom, leaving Billy and me alone in the hallway "How are you coping so well, Kat?"
I gave him a shrug with a false smile, "Who said I was coping?"

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse.
