《How I Survived (Zombie Story)》Chapter Thirty
Advertisement
Luis and I ran out of the building. The zombies also ran out. Only three of them were blind. We didn't swap guns. Instead, he used the pistol. I just shot at the zombies without sniping them.
The three blind ones screamed louder and threw themselves at me. Luis knocked me out of the way, and we both hit the ground. The three of the blind walkers crashed into a building, the slapped at each other blindly, and Luis quickly jumped off of me. He didn't bother to help me up, instead, he shot the other walkers.
I stood and helped him.
We had killed them all by now, and we were both panting with exhaustion. We didn't speak to each other about it, he didn't blame me either, we just began to search the hardware store.
We still had a long day ahead of us. How do I know? Well duh, there are clocks in hardware stores.
It was 12:30 pm. Luis dropped some gears into the bag and a screwdriver.
For safe measures, I stuck a pocket knife into my pocket.
"We should unscrew the alarm," I say, remembering my experiences when I was with janitor brown and the group.
He doesn't say anything, he just waves an alarm system in his hand. "Oh.," I whisper, embarrassed. He didn't smile about it either.
He grabbed a radio and leaned against the counter. I watched silently. He plugged it in and cursed to himself.
No electricity. We both left the store and started our way down empty city streets.
We shot the roaming walkers, and decided by eye contact, to search the bodies and the cars.
We weren't too lucky, only a couple of cars were unlocked, or either the doors were opened. We spent a least an hour, searching cars, and zombie bodies.

I sighed and walked over to Luis, who was trying to start a car. And an idea hit me. I could find some keys to a car, and when I and my group escaped, we could use it.
The plan seemed stupid at first, but I liked it. Even though I was the only one planning it.
"Do you want me to keep searching?" I ask. He just nods. I nod too and began to search for keys. Ten minutes later... I felt hopeless.
No keys. Maybe I could start the car with wires like they do in movies... But Todd wasn't here...
I was searching a small car when I found a small wallet. Money was useless now, but I felt like I had some type of charisma since I found money.
I pulled a small picture out and noticed a man, he had brown hair and a lady stood beside him, a smaller baby was being held by a teenage girl.
I looked in the back seat and noticed a teddy bear. It was covered in blood. I looked away slowly.
"Bingo.," I whispered and spotted a small key in the wallet. Yes, it was a car key. I shoved it in my pocket with the pocket knife.
"Let's go." A voice said.
Luis was standing behind me. I nervously nodded. I hope he didn't see me put the key in my pocket.
I got out the car and shut the dusty door. We began down the road again and went to a small gift shop. The door was boarded. I got a crowbar from my bag and began to pry it off.
After 3 minutes, I still couldn't manage. Luis stood beside me and glared at me, annoyed. I sigh and hand it to him.

He began to pry it off, and he did get it off. He handed me the crowbar and swatted at flies that surrounded the dead body by the door.
I just noticed the dead body.
There were only a couple of walkers in the building.
I handed Luis his gun back and he gave me my pistol. I managed to shoot two of them, and Luis got 5 while still wearing his poker face.
I felt determined to prove to him I wasn't weak. Some way... But how? That doesn't matter right now... I told myself.
"We are making camp here." He says and rolls up the blinds. He takes a small cooking pot he managed to find and set it on the counter.
He pushed the aisles to the wall and set the pot in the middle of the small store.
He took some of the artificial wood the given shop had and tossed it in. I watched. He took a lighter and lit the artificial pieces, and a fire started.
He threw papers in, and other fake cheap things he found.
I stood and decided to help. It was already getting dark.
He wiped sweat from his forehead, and then in a swift moment, he removed his shirt. My face flushed. I hate to say it, but he was in really good shape and very toned.
Show off. I thought to myself.
He grabbed the bag, ignoring my facial expression. I quickly looked down at the wood floor, and he picked up the bag that was sitting in front of me. Luis pulled another shirt out and quickly slipped it on. It was the same colored shirt.
Luis stepped up to me, and I stared at him confused. "What?" I ask. He reaches into my pocket and manages to grab the key and the pocket knife.
Shocked, I stare at him. He caught me. How?!
He tossed the pocket knife and key into the fire. I watched the pocket knife melted, and the key. My dreams... Well, not my dreams... But my escaping plan.
All I could do is stare at the fire. My escape plan.. Gone.
This guy outsmarted me... And all I could do was pray he didn't tell anyone how dumb I was or try to get me taken off the scouts.
He moves away from me and throws the backpack on the floor. I just kept staring at him. Wondering how he caught me.
