《How I Survived (Zombie Story)》Chapter Twenty Nine

We opened the exit to the fence. Once we walked out, they closed the fence. The bald man shot several zombies and quickly locked the gate. He then handed Miranda, me, Jone and Hunter small pistols. I glanced to my left. All of the zombies I had seen, were there, groaning loudly. But too busy watching their prey inside the gates to come to us.
The group was way bigger. There were only three girls, Miranda, me, and a blonde lady. Five men joined us. Including Luis and Joe, who stood at our sides. So they were seen as pros?
We started out of the gates, and begin walking through the forests. They had to shoot a couple of zombies that wandered onto the trail.
Miranda and I walked at the same pace, but I found myself already growing tired already. It was way different than the way it was when we were freely driving in a van all over the country, not worrying about walking into walkers, or the fast walkers that were rabid.
Then memories all sort of hit me, like when I was in high school and the apocalypse broke out. The lunch lady, the people that were being bitten in front of my eyes, how Kylia disappeared. I wonder if we would die... Or if she was dead... I wonder where Kylia had been.
But what hit me the most was, It had to have been two months already in this apocalypse, and people have already started building safe places to stay, and even scouts.
It was already starting to be daylight out here, and I began to sweat as the sun rises. Hunter walked beside me, his hair bouncing as he walked. He swiped a piece of hair out of his face and looked over at me.
Based on the cameras in the bedrooms, I and Miranda decided it wasn't safe to talk about important things around these people.
Luis and Joe were walking behind us now, this time not pointing guns at our backs. Jone was walking in front of me, holding his gun at his side, calm. If Jone was calm, then we should be calm. I thought silently to myself.

The shade from the trees made shadow outlines on the ground.
We had been walking for at least 30 minutes, and I was already growing tired. Where have we headed anyways?
My feet sunk into the soil, and then a small squirrel raced up a tree, and I wondered what happened to most of the animals thanks to the virus.
We soon found ourselves exiting the forest, into a small city street. Huge buildings stood in the distance. The sun was shining hard now. Jone looked back at me. Then something else hit me, was Jone following in Janitor Brown's footsteps?
Did he want to take us to the safe zone too? Maybe... But this place is not the safe zone.
The bald Tim guy wiped sweat from his brow. "We will split up."
"Yes, sir!" The blonde girl says. Tim shot a zombie that was creeping behind us, "Line up." Tim says. We all lineup.
"You." He says pointing to Miranda. "With him." He says pointing to Joe. She looks at me, but steps beside Joe. He looks her up and down, and then looks back at Mr. Tim.
"You two." He says pointing to Hunter and the blonde girl.
"You and you." He says to one of the men beside him and to Rick.
"And you." He says pointing at me. "With him." He says, nodding to Luis. I cursed in my mind and stood beside Luis, who was staring straight forward.
Of all people... I get the guy that hates me.
"You two head forward. Search the buildings on the straight street." He says, and hands Luis a camping bag, and hands me an empty bag, he does the same to the others. "Grab food, and if you find any survivors, tell them to stick with you." He tells everyone.
"Meet back here tomorrow at noon. If you bump into another pair, stick together."
Jone and Hunter stare at me and Miranda and their eyes say trust no one.

Everyone left, me and Luis walked straight forward and were the last ones to leave the place we started.
We didn't say anything to each other. I glanced at all the buildings, and we stopped at the first one we had to search, and that was the hardware store.
I opened the door, holding it open for him. He stepped in. His curly black hair seemed to shine in the sunshine. His brown eyes searched the hardware store.
I did the same, holding my pistol close and ready. He raised a stop hand, and I stopped, behind him. The hardware lights were out since no one was really there anymore to turn them on. I wondered if they (the camp people) had ever met the mask men. Actually, I wondered where the mask people were today.
Luis pulled his sniper out and began to scope out any walkers. It was too quiet in here.
He slowly walked forward. I saw a candy wrapper that Luis was about to step on. I grabbed his arm, and I could feel his muscles through his uniform, which was a different color than mines.
He stops and looks at me.
"Look.." I whisper.
Even I knew what it was. The walker that attacked me and my group at the high school. The freaky lunch lady. Brings back memories.....
I point to the blind zombie, its head was shaking furiously as if it was frustrating. Luis's looks at me from the corner of his eye. He pulls from my soft grip and began to quick scope it.
He shot the zombie, the headshot that is. Its head exploded.
In my mind, I was saying whoa. From the loud sound that is, not his perfect shot. "Can you use a gun?" He whispered to me. Finally, he was talking to me, and he was the first to speak, so one point for me!
"Duh- I mean yea.," I whisper.
"Let's find out." He says. "Ok," I mumble. He shoved the sniper at me and I almost fell over. He didn't laugh, he just kept on the same solemn face.
Does this guy ever smile? Nope.
He watched me, bored. I was having a hard time holding a pistol and a huge gun. He took the pistol from me and stood behind me.
He pointed to the other blind walker, that was eating a dead corpse.
Luis clicked the flashlight on, and his arm rested on my shoulder, but he was tense. He was wearing fingerless gloves. At this moment, I was nervous. For some strange reason.
Even though I had Hunter as a boyfriend or guy friend figure, Luis wasn't even my friend. Speaking of Hunter, I still had his necklace which was tucked in my shirt.
Luis held my hands steady on the gun. "You know how to shoot a pistol..." He whispers, "but you need to know how to shoot a sniper." He whispered, barely audible.
Yea Hunter already taught me how to shoot... But fine. I thought silently.
He pulled the sniper up to my face, the scope leaning close to my eye, making everything seem closer.
His finger rested on my finger which was on the trigger at the moment.
He pressed my finger and the zombie was shot in the stomach. "Crap," I whisper.
The zombie let out a scream, just like last time, and it's head whipped towards us. And so did three other zombies. Or maybe five...
"Run. Run. Run.." He muttered, pushing me toward the door. He stopped while pushing me to the door, and he shot two of the zombies.

AK - The Alchemy Kingdom
Karl always wanted to be a Mage. He was born in the Serion Kingdom, a fully pledged magic Kingdom. Seems like a perfect match, right? Unfortunately, no. He's just a commoner, working endlessly to maintaining the lifestyle of Mages. On his 15th birthday, his last chance to escape from a miserable life was destroyed when he was deemed to have no magic potential. For thousands of Serion's citizens that would be the end of their dreams. But how could this story be any fun, ending like that? Follow Karl and his friends while they tried to fight against the Kingdom's oppression. Will the system bend them to submission or will they break the chains of destiny? Spoiler alert: After thousands of years, an ancient Magic system will be reborn in the small Caiset village. What should you expect? - Kingdom Building: For sure! The heavy lifting will come later, I promise! Foundation is important, please be patient; - Epic battles: A Kingdom is not built without war and conflict. Who doesn't like good fights? Let's bring some excitement to this novel!; - Multiple leading characters: Karl convinced them to get on the bus, but this is a very long trip and everyone will need to drive a little; - Scientific Magic System: Especially Alchemy! I'm in no way trying to take the fantasy out of Magic. I just feel like trying to do something more logical. I'll probably stumble on a fine line, but I’m counting on you to keep me on track!; - World Building: I’m using some basic concepts from traditional Fantasy Worlds and trying to add some nice touches to make it unique; - Fun?: I'll try to insert some humor into the story, but that’s an experience we will go through together. Other points I find important: Alchemy is mostly crafting magic tools, but it will go a little further down the road. Even if you don't like crafting, weapon enhancing and whatnot, don’t give up on the novel. You might be surprised about Alchemy's reach later. Also, other types of Magic will play an important role here, just not the leading role. ......... Check out my two spin-off novels, Merchant Queen and Harbinger of Death! Both are independent novels, but with the same world setting... Maybe some crossover later... Either way, you can check them to get additional information on worldbuilding and hidden plots... Please leave a comment! If you want to help me more, support me on Patreon. I'm always trying to come up with new ways for you to participate in this journey.
