"Hey, could you check on Kylia?" Kyle asks.
"Of course." I mumble and ask, "Where is she exactly?"
"Um. Back aisle I think." Kyle says, working on the new board for another door. His gun was slung over his back and there was a nice smile on his face.
"Okay."
"Thank you." He sighs.
I nod and begin my short trek to the back of the huge Walmart. My eyes scanned all the stuff. How I longed to have it before the apocalypse. Now here it is... Right here on this very aisle... And I can just grab it and take it.
I sigh. Maybe I didn't miss not being able to just snatch thing... But I sure missed when it was just animals and humans.
I was starting to tense up as I saw a figure walk by. "Kylia?" I ask.
Walking forward, hands grasp my shoulders and I gasp.
"Kylia... You scared me.." I mumble lightly.
"I'm sorry. Why are you back here?" She asks.
"Looking for you. Why are you back here?" I ask.
"I wanted to be alone." She mumbles.
"I wanna show you something." She mumbles. I nod and follow her. At the back of the store, she opened a small door to the workroom of Walmart. It was the smaller one. A dresser was in there, and a cigar. She grabs it. "See?" She asks.
"Whoa. Uh, Kyle wouldn't want you to do that."
"I don't expect him to know." She says sarcastically.
"Oh.," I say. Still not understanding her need to smoke a cigarette. No reason at all actually.
"Can you not tell him?" She asks.
"I.... I guess." I mumble annoyed. Choices, choices.

Kylia was sitting cross-legged in the middle of the aisles. I noticed the lone walkers wondering around in the parking lot near the back windows. But they couldn't get in. Kyle had already boarded those entries.
I sat down in front of Kylia. It was our first day here. Don't ask me why I was counting our days of luck.
Kylia's dark eyes were studying the books in front of her, the jewelry and the pants also sitting in front of her.
Her hair was resting in a bun on top of her head.
She was wearing new pants and a flower shirt.
"Hey," I say.
"Hi." She mumbles.
Even though we were just talking 2 minutes ago, it felt homey to say hello again. She was chewing bubblegum, her jaw moving hastily.
"Think about it." She mumbles lightly.
"Think about what?" I ask.
"What its gonna be like... We won't hold on here for long. They all knew that. You do too right?" She asks.
"Yep," I said agreeing. But deep down I knew and felt this was like a new home. Our own safe shelter.
"And if we stay... What if everything is used up? What if we run out of supplies?" She asks.
"There's no way we will. There's a supply room in the back, we're surrounded by other malls.." I tell her.
She doesn't reply.
"Hey, Kylia and Lara! C'mon we're exploring the cinema!" A voice says. It was Bella.
"I'll stay." She mumbles, unscrewing some nail polish.
I nod and stand.
I was really starting to think Kylia had multiple personalities.
I followed Bella back to the group. "Where's Kylia?" Kyle asks. "She said she'll be fine," I say.
"No. I'll go get her." He sighs.

I grab his arm. "No really. She doesn't want to come."
"Guys c'mon!" Rick complains.
We both follow them out the exit doors, and to another exit door around the back of another building.
The sun was shining its brightest. But it was still cold. "I plan to have a huge fence built back here. So we can travel back and forth." Jone explains.
Whatever you want.. I think to myself. Mr. Leader.
We go to a back exit door, it was dark. As we step in, Lucy shoots a zombie that was laying on the floor, growling hungrily.
"I wonder what's his story." Miranda jokes.
She shoves me playfully. She still is playful. Guess I should be happy for that.
"Good shot Lucy." Bella sighs.
"I know." She says and plops down in the official seat. So we were in the manager's office of the cinema... Who puts an exit in the manager's office...?
The cinema should have been a grave house. So many dead bodies.
"Hey look!" Miranda yells, she points to the movies that are playing. That romance zombie movie was playing.
"Hey, Miranda you know we don't know how to work the movie thing right?" I ask.
"We can learn!" She says.
"How's that leg?" Ricko asks me randomly. "Fine, I guess. What about you, okay too?" I ask politely.
"Yea." He sighs.
We all go to cinema room 8. Where the movie was supposed to be playing. "Hey. Let's go try and figure out the movie thing." Hunter says.
"Okay," I say.
"Let's all just find somewhere to sit. Doesn't matter. Make sure there aren't any zombies." Jone sighs.
"Okay," Bella says and jumps into a seat.
Me and Hunter head up to where the people usually work. A walker was sitting in the chair, tied to the chair actually. It growled at us.
"Wanna shoot?" Hunter asks.
"I... I stink at shooting." I mumble.
"It's okay. Just try it." He says.
"Here let me help you." He says and stands behind me, resting his head on my shoulder, he holds my arms steady and the gun in my hands, he moves my hands to the trigger and I feel his breath on my neck.
I tense up, my eyes moving around frantically. "Focus... Focus..." He says. "Now." He whispers and makes my finger press the trigger. The gun goes off and he moves back from me.
"There you go." He says. We both look at the dead zombie.
"Perfect." He says.
I smile and lean into him, and sigh. "I just shot my first walker," I say.
"Yep. First, kill always start you off good. Like a kill that you can shoot without any chaos or movement around you." He informs.
I smile. "Good to know.," I say. He smiles.

8 147Age of Regression
[Author's Thoughts] Dropped, obviously. Still, it's my first attempt at a novel and I do love what I did with it. Big step towards learning. Far in the past, there was a civilization much more advanced than the one of modern times. Evidence of that time remains, but it is all but shrouded in mystery as there remains no way to decipher it. Currently, normal individuals wage war with guns and smaller machinery, but those who can wield a higher power vary in their abilities. Scales, born upon humans, are a mystery in their origins but are the source of their abilities and their way towards advancement. Although normally powerless, humans have adapted to the scales and thus can connect with the power of the universe, much like the other races that inhabit its various corners. In one of these corners, there exists a human settlement where Lancing follows his father's footsteps to begin his own ascent to power. However, he finds he is far different from his gifted father, whose scales below his eyes were among the purest ever seen, reaching gem-like quality. Far from perfect, Lancing shows no desire to give up and ceaselessly moves forward to reach the peak of the universe. However, he begins to notice that the mysteries of the universe slowly begin to unravel in front of his eyes. To reach the heavens, Lancing must carve his own path.
