Chapter Fourteen
Q.V.B
Melody's P.O.V
I still could not get over the fact that not only had Robyn found a pair of high heels, she had decided to wear them. I watched her in disbelief as she paced back and forth in her dark red stilettos. Not a stumble nor a wobble tainted her stride as she continued to pace. Whatever it was that possessed this woman. It scared me more than the infected people.
Okay that was an over exaggeration, but still. Who in their right mind would willingly wear high heels at a time like this? God knows what might happen! I shook my head. Whatever. If she falls and gets eaten, it's not my problem. Carl had warned her. Alan had warned and I had consistently warned her. Did she listen?
No.
Style was clearly far more important to her. I pursed my lips and shook my head again. It was her choice. Her choice. Her stupid, dumb, idiotic choice. If only the circumstance weren't so dire, I would have laughed.
My thoughts wandered back to Zoey. Robyn refused to tell us anything more than 'she was bit'. I still couldn't believe it though. She was fine, and then she wasn't. Any and all doubt left my mind. If we got bitten, it's all over. I didn't believe it before, I didn't want to believe it. But now I had to believe it. How could I not? The evidence was right there in front of me. And yet still I fought to believe it. Everything that has happened just seems so unreal. More like a horror story than reality.
I refused to dwell on any of that. I had to move on. I had to keep fighting. I shook the thoughts away and instead focused my attention back on Robyn. She was, as she put it 'mentally preparing' herself for what was to come. No one could prepare for what was to come. Outside was the devils playground, and we were nothing but his toys. Anything could happen.
Carl walked into the room, a small silver key in his grasp. He stuck the key into his black jeans and wiped his hands on his clean white shirt. After staring at Robyn for a moment he walked over to me. Leaning against the armrest he pulled out a small pistol and thrust it in front of me.
"This is against all the rules." He sighed, reluctance tainting his tone. "But considering the circumstances I want you to hold onto this, just in case." I looked at the gun, then up at him. His eyes were hard and serious as he held the gun out to me.
"What? Why me?" I stuttered.
"Because you're the only one here with experience. You used it before, I know you did. And if you didn't know how to shoot we wouldn't be here right now. So take it." Hesitantly I took the gun from his grasp. Weighing the heavy tool in my hands I stood up and tucked it into my back pocket.
"The safety's off so be careful. And you only have seven bullets so use them wisely. Get whatever you need and meet me in the car park, we're leaving soon." Nodding my head in acknowledgement I stepped past him and walked out of the room. Taking extra precaution to avoid looking at Zoeys' still body, I walked around her and out into the small car park.

Alan was leaning against the door of a car, gazing off into the distance. I walked down the three small steps and skipped over to him.
"Ready to hit the road again?" I asked, a small smile at my lips. He tore his gaze away and looked down at me, his frown brutally contrasting my smile.
"You know this is a bad idea." He said, his frown growing deeper with every word.
"Seriously? You're still upset about coming?" I asked, sighing in exasperation.
"Yeah I am, I have a bad feeling about this." He ran a hand through his hair and shook his head.
"Well no one's asking you to come Alan! Stay here and starve if that's what you want!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands in the air. His eyes widened as he looked at me, taken by surprise. His stare dropped to the ground as he mumbled an apology. I smirked at his sudden change in attitude and looked around the small parking lot.
A low chain link fence was the only barrier protecting us from the infected. Alan was leaning against the only remaining car, which was parked crookedly across the yellow parking lines. I walked around the car and wiped the water from the windows with the sleeve of my red jacket. The faded paint and numerous scratches gave evidence to its old age.
The air smelt of rain. The distinct odor of rainwater washed away the scent of death, for that I was grateful. After a few minutes of aimlessly walking around the car, Carl walked out with Robyn at his side. A black duffle bag was hanging from his shoulders. He unlocked the car an stuffed the bag into the boot of the car.
"What's in the bag?" I asked curiously, watching him stuff it inside.
"Some food and my police uniform. Never know if I might need it again." He shrugged and stepped inside the car, jamming the key in the ignition. The car spluttered unhealthily before humming harmoniously. I slid into the back seat, a taste of déjà vu flooding my senses. Robyn sat beside me, furiously fiddling with the seat belt. I rolled my eyes at her and clicked my seat belt in before helping her. Alan sat at the front with his nose buried in a colourful map.
Wordlessly the car rolled out of the parking lot and slowly made its way down the road. Twisting around in my seat I watched as slowly the police station disappeared from sight. Mixed emotions dazzled me and left me feeling sick. Apprehension about leaving slithered in and forced me to question nearly everything. Was Alan right? Should we have stayed and waited? I choked them all down and stared out the window. A few isolated infected popped up every now and then, but they made no effort to chase after the car.
"So... Where are we going?" Robyn asked, smacking her lips with fake enthusiasm.
"Queen Victoria Building in the city. That's probably where everyone is." Carl replied, keeping his gaze locked on the road.
The Q.V.B, I smiled at the memories I had there. Growing up in Sydney, the Q.V.B was the place I visited most with my friends. My friends. Most of them had left Australia, moved someplace else, sick of the heat and spiders. They must have been okay, there was no way this thing was worldwide. I refused to believe that. Call me sick but I'm glad my parents are dead. At least they didn't have to live through this.

And my brother. I rarely ever thought about him. He went missing five years ago, presumed dead. He probably was dead. My older brother, my father, my mother... all dead. My entire family. Is it wrong to be happy about that? Happy that they don't have to deal with this shit. Happy that they don't have to kill or be killed. Tears began to form but I blinked them away. I wasn't going to let myself cry. Not now.
"Should be there in half an hour." Carl's voice sifted through the car and broke me out of my reverie. I returned my attention to the window. Watching the tall building and trees fly past.
The car spluttered out a series of coughs before its gentle hum died down into nothingness. Panic rose within me as the car slowed to a halt. I looked over at Carl, my eyes wide in shock.
"Why have we stopped?" I asked, twisting around and looking out each and every window.
"Shit... we're out of gas." Carl huffed, gazing off into the distance.
"We're out of gas? How the fuck did that happen!" Alan roared, slamming his fist down onto the dashboard.
"I don't know Alan how do you think it fucking happened?" Carl retorted, snatching the key out of the ignition and plunging it into his pocket. "There's a gas station just up ahead. I'll go get the gas and come back." Alan shook his head and slumped back in his chair, cursing under his breath. Carl stepped out of the car and slammed the door shut behind him. I leaned forward in my seat and watched him jog up the road before disappearing into the gas station.
"Someone should have gone with him. In case he runs into trouble." Robyn muttered, playing with a strand of her hair.
"He's a cop, he can take care of himself." Alan sneered, glancing back at Robyn and I. After a few moments he reappeared empty handed, walking back down the road he opened the door and stuck his head inside.
"There are no gas canisters, we're gonna have to push the car up to the fuel pump." I groaned under my breath and got out of the car. Alan followed behind me, his consistent cursing had yet to end. Robyn stepped out of the car but made no move to help us push the car. Figures.
The three of us pushed the car forward. Ever so slowly it lurched up the road towards the petrol station. My body froze at the sound of a scream. Dropping my hands at my sides I turned around. Off in the distance several figures were running towards us, their deathly screams piercing the silence surrounding us.
"Oh my god, people?" Robyn stepped forward, raising her hands in the air and waving them about.
"I don't think they're people." Alan breathed. I looked at him in confusion.
"They have to be. The infected can't run." I stated, looking back at them. As they neared us I was able to make out their torn clothes and pale blood stained skin. They continued to scream, the sounds escaping them sounding more and more inhuman.
"Oh shit." Carl muttered, turning around and slamming his body against the car. "Push the car. Push the car!" He yelled. I pushed my body against the car with as much force as I could. Robyn slapped her palms against the car and pushed. Even with her help the car barely moved faster than a snail. I glanced back at them. They were coming closer and closer.
"Keep going! Come on!" Carl screamed, staring back at their advancing figures. Sweat ran down my face as the heat consumed me. With every second that passed my fear intensified. Their screams grew louder and louder. The slaps of their feet against the concrete were now audible as they came closer. I looked back in horror and curiosity. A shriek left my throat as I saw them. Drenched in blood there were at least thirty of them, all sprinting towards us.
"Get in the car! Get in the car now!" Carl screamed, running around the side of the car and disappearing from sight. Alan ran past me and jumped inside. I ran round the side of the car and flung the door open. Stepping inside a hand wrapped itself around my forearm. Without a thought I pulled the gun from my pocket and fired. I slid into the car and slammed the door shut. A stream of blood ran down the window. Robyn was sitting beside me panting profusely. I looked ahead and saw Alan, his hand clamped on his door handle.
"Where's Carl?" I asked, looking past Robyn and seeing no sight of him.
"He's filling up the tank." Alan gasped between puffs of air. I swore under my breath and leaned across Robyn. I rolled down her window and peered outside. Carl was beside the car holding the nozzle in the tank. He pulled his gun out fired several shots. An infected ran around the front of the car and and began sprinting towards him. I stuck the gun out the window and fired. The bullet grazed his shoulder and caught his attention. He ran towards the car and slammed his body against the window. A large crack spread across the delicate glass. Frantically I rolled the window up before he had time to stick his hand inside.
Another two shots rang out. The man at the window fell to the ground, leaving behind a trail of blood on the window. The car door flew open as Carl dived inside and slammed the door shut behind him. He sat still slumped in the chair as he gasped for air. None of us said a word.
I screamed as an infected person flung them self against the side of my door. Wasting no more time, Carl dug the key into the ignition and stomped his foot down. The infected smeared the blood all over the window before the car sped away, out of his grasp. Turning around I looked out the back window. Through the cracks I could vaguely see them running after us. Their sprints relentless. They would have to give up soon. They couldn't run forever. I shuddered at the thought and turned back around. Hugging myself I stared at the back of Alan's head, not bothering to put my seat belt on.
None of us spoke a word as the car drove forwards. It wasn't until the Queen Victoria Building came into sight that the car stopped. Carl turned around in his chair and looked at all of us. Splatters of blood covered his white shirt and painted his skin.
"We'll go inside, and if no one is there, we come back to the car." He said slowly, nodding at each of us. I nodded back at him and apprehensively stepped out of the car. I looked around the street and couldn't see anyone. They had to be here. Where else would they go?
Without waiting for the others I ran up the side of the building. The loud thunder of people talking met my ears and alleviated the intense fear I had been feeling. I stepped inside and gasped at the crowds of people, all huddled together within the building. Men dressed in military garb carrying large guns walked up and down among the waves of people. It looked like the whole of Sydney was in here.
"Hold it right there!" A voice yelled as I was pushed against a wall. Three men surrounded me as a large black gun was pointed towards my chest.

I hope you all enjoyed it! :-). I wasn't going to end it there, I was going to write a bit more but then I thought, this seems like a good place to end it. I have pretty big ideas for the next few chapters, I just hope they turn out good.

You read the title right, YOU are a God within this story. In fact, every single reader of the story is a God. Many stories like to take the path that there are Gods that watch over the characters of the story, helping them or hurting them as the characters progress. What if, the readers of this story are the Gods that are watching the Main Characters? What if the readers could accrue points by reading that they could spend to help the main character, hurt the main character, or to even create new characters, dungeons, and scenarios? That is what I aim to create! I am trying to get the community involved in creating a reality that the readers themselves can directly influence! If you have any interest in this at all, I implore you to read the intro chapter called 'The Tutorial' and join everyone else on many interesting stories on Planet Earth and what it is to become!
